Why Does Voldemort Have No Nose?

In 2001, J. K. Rowlings magical franchise made a cinematic debut in Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. Truth be told, this movie made everyone fall in love with wizards and magic. Hogwarts became a dream school for everyone. Despite being a fantasy school even after 20 years of its initial release, most of us are still waiting for its acceptance letter. In the final moments of the Philosophers Stone, the directors teased the existence of the dark lord by showing that Voldemort was survived by using Professor Quirrell as a host. He-who-must-not-be-named made Professor Quirrell drink unicorn blood to sustain him and to get the Philosophers Stone for him. Guess What, He still had his nose in the movie at the time.

A few movies later, the Dark Lord appeared in the Goblet of fire without a nose. It was shown that He-who-must-not-be-named used his pet snakes venom when he was reborn. Nagini was one of the 7 Horcruxes and he needed her venom to strengthen him because of the piece of his soul resting inside her. Hence, due to Naginis venom, he loses his nose and gains his horrifying snakelike face.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort furthers his quest for ultimate power. He disposes of the Minister for Magic and replaces him with Pius Thicknesse, who is under the Imperius Curse. Establishing a totalitarianpolice state, he has Muggle-borns persecuted and arrested for “stealing magic” from the “pure blood” wizards. After failing to kill Harry with Draco’s father Lucius Malfoy‘s borrowed wand , he goes on a murderous search for the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand ever created, seeing it as the weapon he needs to overcome Harry’s wand and make him truly invincible. He goes on a quest that takes him out of the country to Gregorovitch‘s wand shop, where he kills the old wandmaker. His journey also takes him to Nurmengard, the prison where Gellert Grindelwald is kept, and he kills Grindelwald as well. He finally locates the Elder Wand and steals it from Dumbledore’s tomb.

Rowling stated that after his death, Voldemort is forced to exist in the stunted infant-like form that Harry sees in the King’s Cross-like Limbo after his confrontation with Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest. Rowling also mentioned that, despite his extreme fear of death, he cannot become a ghost.

How Tom Riddle Turned Into Voldemort

The Dark Lords real name is Tom Riddle. He wasnt always a terrible looking guy. JK Rowling has stated in the second and sixth books that Tom Riddle is a tall and handsome man with pale skin. He also has dark brown eyes and jet-black hair.

Earlier in life, the handsome Tom Riddle used to spend most of his time experimenting with black magic. His ultimate goal was immortality. In search of immortality, Riddle split his spirit into eight parts and purposely created seven Horcruxes. As Riddle discovers the deepest and darkest secrets of magic, he becomes both strong and evil.

He left his Muggle name and became the king of black magic, Lord Voldemort. Lord Voldemort is an anagram of Riddles birth name.

Who Was His First Murder Victim

The question of who, exactly, was Voldemorts first murder victim is a compelling one, in part because it depends on how one defines that term. In its broadest sense, one could argue that the girl who would go on to be known as Moaning Myrtle was his first real victim, since she perished at the hands of the basilisk, which Voldemort released from its place in the Chamber of Secrets.

In terms of literal murder, however, his poor paternal family has the sad distinction of being his first victims.

Experiments In Dark Magic

Dumbledore, of course, did not make Voldemort a professor. With this last vesitge of attachment to the straight and narrow path of magic worn away, Voldemort plunged into terrorism and arcane wizardry. Here lie the beginnings of the First Wizarding War: campaigns of murder, the infiltration of the halls of the powerful, and the scarring of the magical world that would leave its inhabitant too terrified to even speak his name for years to come. Giants, werewolves, and all manner of dark creatures were recruited to his side. His horcruxes were secreted across the country, from the diary Ginny Weasley would become possessed by to the locket in the cave Dumbledore and Harry would one day visit.

It was a grave time for the world, but an absolute apex of power for Voldemort. It is during this time that the last of his comely appearance would desert him. His experiments with dark magic, his bloody trail of murders, and his utterly ruthless control of his followers resulted in the bone-white wraith he became. Voldemort appeared to be less a man than a cold-blooded creature of nightmares, with scarlet eyes, a skeletal frame, and hands “like large, pale spiders.” He’d managed to make himself into a being of his own invention, a mixture of traits borrowed from reptiles, monsters of legend, and mythologized tyrants. He’d grown to look as inhuman as his acts, and that was exactly according to plan.

In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it is revealed that Bellatrix gave birth to Voldemort’s daughter Delphi in Malfoy Manor before the Battle of Hogwarts. Twenty-two years later, Delphi poses as Cedric’s cousin and manipulates Harry and Ginny’s second son Albus Severus Potter and his friend, Draco and Astoria Greengrass‘s son Scorpius Malfoy, into stealing a prototype Time Turner with which she hopes to resurrect her father. Using the Time Turner, Scorpius accidentally creates an alternative timeline where Voldemort killed Harry at the battle and now rules the wizarding world. In an attempt to achieve this future, Delphi travels to Godric’s Hollow on the night Voldemort killed Harry’s parents, hoping to avert the prophecy that led to her father’s downfall. After receiving a message from his son, Harry, together with Ron, Hermione and Draco transfigures himself into Voldemort so that he can distract Delphi, allowing them to overpower her. The real Voldemort kills Harry’s parents as prophesied, and Delphi is sent to Azkaban.

It Was Degraded By Dark Magic

Slytherincess is quite right to mention the meeting between Voldemort and Dumbledore as a midpoint between the youthful Riddle and the You-Know-Who that subsequently emerged.

Voldemort had entered the room. His features were not those Harry had seen emerge from the great stone cauldron almost two years before they were not as snake-like, the eyes were not yet scarlet, the face not yet masklike, and yet he was no longer handsome Tom Riddle. It was as though his features had been burned and blurred they were waxy and oddly distorted, and the whites of his eyes now had a permanently bloody look, though the pupils were not yet the slits that Harry knew they would become..

This is a Voldemort in transition. He was, as Britney Spears might put it, not a girl, not yet a woman. Or rather not Tom Riddle, not yet You-Know-Who. Alongside the rest of his features, his nose had undergone some adjustments. Nevertheless, it wasn’t yet the flattened, slit-nostrilled monstrosity it would go on to become.

Dumbledore at least seemed to think that the soul-mutilation from creating the Horcruxes had a large part to play.

“Yet it fitted: Lord Voldemort had seemed to grow less human with the passing years, and the transformation he had undergone seemed to me to be only explicable if his soul was mutilated beyond the realms of what we might call usual evil…”.

“Don’t put your wand there, boy!” roared Moody. “What if it ignited? Better wizards than you have lost buttocks, you know!.

Merope’s wish was granted: Tom Riddle Jr. grew into a handsome young man. Though he never explicitly acknowledged this fact, the moments of his past that Harry and Voldemort observe through the Pensieve made it clear that he understood how to use his compelling looks as a tool. How early this started cannot be known, but it seems likely that it began when he was young potentially even before he knew of the magical world.

When Dumbledore visited Wool’s Orphanage to meet the promising young lad, he learned quickly of the boy’s odd behaviors. The matron spoke warily of him, saying that he ” the other children,” and that certain violent tendencies were indicated. She couldn’t prove that Tom Riddle had murdered another boy’s rabbit, nor what had happened in the cave he lured two children to that rendered them “funny … never the same again,” but she knew enough to be concerned. Regardless, the fact that these offenses had happened more than once implies that something about the strange little boy with the terrifying habits kept drawing new and gullible victims. Tom might not have enjoyed the fact that his good looks were an inheritance from his shamefully non-magical father, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t willing to use them to further his depraved aims.

Given how enormously powerful he was as a wizard, there were naturally very few people that he feared. Its not hard to see why.
