Harry Potter’s History With The Killing Curse

Harry Potter became the target of the Killing Curse multiple times throughout the series. On Halloween night in 1981, Lord Voldemort ventured to Godric’s Hollow with the intent of killing Harry. James Potter was killed trying to save his wife and child. Lily Potter then shielded her infant son when Voldemort unleashed the Killing Curse, causing it to bounce back and disintegrate his physical body. Harry survived but was left with a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead and a nickname: “The Boy Who Lived.”

Voldemort used the words Avada Kedavra at least three more times on his sworn enemy. The Dark Lord killed Cedric Diggory using the deadly spell during the final task of the Triwizard Tournament. Harry watched in horror as a bright green light flashed before his eyes as his friend’s lifeless body hit the ground. After taking Harry’s blood, Voldemort ordered him to a duel. Voldemort used the Cruciatus Curse and the Imperius Curse before turning to the Killing Curse. His opponent found a distracting during the duel and was able to use the Portkey to get back to Hogwarts with Cedric’s body.

Voldemort used the curse again in the Forbidden Forest, and then again during the final duel that defeated Voldemort once and for all. Harry’s encounter with the Killing Curse in the Forbidden Forest has resulted in a lot of confusion, but there are essentially two main reasons in Harry Potter canon that explain why he didn’t die at Voldemort’s hands as an adult.

Rowling On Finishing The Book

Rowling completed the book while staying at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh in January 2007, and left a signed statement on a marble bust of Hermes in her room which read: “J. K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room on 11 January 2007”. In a statement on her website, she said, “I’ve never felt such a mixture of extreme emotions in my life, never dreamed I could feel simultaneously heartbroken and euphoric.” She compared her mixed feelings to those expressed by Charles Dickens in the preface of the 1850 edition of David Copperfield, “a two-years’ imaginative task”. “To which,” she added, “I can only sigh, try seventeen years, Charles”. She ended her message by saying “Deathly Hallows is my favourite, and that is the most wonderful way to finish the series”.

Why Did Dumbledore Give Harry The Resurrection Stone

Since we dont see Dumbledores full will, except for the parts read out loud to Harry, Hermione and Ron we will never truly know what Dumbledores intentions were. However, there are quite a few theories as to why he left Harry the Resurrection Stone.

The most popular theory comes from the other things he left to the trio. Many fans believed that since he left The Tales of Beedle the Bard to Hermione, Dumbledore was alluding to the Deathly Hallows.

Since the collection of books contain the story of the three brothers which deal with the three gifts Death gave to the brothers, many believe he wanted to point the trio to the Deathly Hallows.

After all, Dumbledore during his younger days was a known believer of the story. While most of the wizarding world believes the story was completely fictional, Dumbledore was convinced whoever holds all three of the gifts will become the Master of the Death.

However, there is a more fitting explanation. Since Dumbledore was aware of the fact that Harry will have to die, he left the stone to him so he can get some reassurance during his final moments before he confronted Voldemort and allowed him to kill him.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is a 2011 fantasy film directed by David Yates and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is the second of two cinematic parts based on J. K. Did The Resurrection Stone Bring Harry Potter Back To Life

Contrary to its name, the Resurrection Stone is not what brought Harry back to life. Although many people assume the stone has the ability to bring the dead back to life this is not really how it works.

The way it works is described in the legend of the three brothers. Rather than reviving people the stone just brings them back as a shadow of who they were before they died.

This is why the second brother ultimately killed himself. His original wish was to bring the girl he loved back to life but the Resurrection Stone couldnt bring her back.

We actually see the way it works when Harry drops the stone in the Forbidden forest. Rather than bringing his parents and Remus and Sirius back to life, they appear in front of him like ghosts.

This means that even if Harry tried to bring himself back to life with the stone, he wouldnt actually succeed in his plane. He would simply return to the world as a ghost.

Why Did Harry Not Die In The Dark Forest

Once Voldemort announced he would spare everyone in Hogwarts if Harry came to him willingly and surrendered. Once Harry made it to Deatheaters camp Voldemort cast the Killing Curse, but turns out Harry didnt die.

The question has divided the fans ever since J. K. Rowling wrote the event into the books since there are so many different explanations as to why Harry didnt die.

Most people believe that Harry escaped the death because once Voldemorts Avada Kedavra hit him, the curse only killed his own part of the soul which was connected to Harry.

Another thing fans often point out is that Voldemort could not kill Harry since he was using the Elder Wand at the time and the true owner of the wand, ever since the events in the Malfoy manor was Harry.

This seems like the most likely explanation since its pointed out in the books as well. The book series points out that while Voldemort could use the Elder Wand he could not cast a proper Avada Kedavra which in turn would not have its ordinary effect.

However, the conversation Harry has with Dumbledore reveals that his mothers protection saved him and he never truly died which is why he had the choice to go back to life.

There Are Some Interesting Fan Theories As To Why Harry Drops The Resurrection Stone

Many of them are rooted in the fact that Harry didn’t believe, personally, that anyone should ever use the Resurrection Stone, which, as the name entails, is able to bring people back to life. If you aren’t familiar with the series, then here’s skinny on the stone: It was the second “Hallow” created. Hallows are magical items / relics that are capable of some truly wondrous feats.

The Resurrection Stone was the second Hallow ever created, and it’s rumored that Death itself had made it. When combined with the two other Hallows the Cloak of Invisibility and the Elder Wand the possessor would become the “Master of Death.”

Harry supposedly drops the stone for several reasons, one being because it didn’t truly bring people back, just “shades” of them as Redditor Talgori puts it.

Another reason for Harry ultimately dropping the stone is that if he were to get rid of it, then that would mean no one else could become a Master of Death. This means that Voldemort would never be able to simultaneously possess all three of the Hallows.

Interestingly enough though, the rumored way to become a true “Master of Death” in the Harry Potter series doesn’t exactly pertain to gaining ownership of the Hallows.

Harry’s Protection Against Lord Voldemort

When Lily sacrificed herself to save Harry in Godric’s Hollow, he was protected by magic’s strongest defense: love. Dumbledore explained to Harry at a young age how Lily’s love lived on and served as a protection against evil. However, there’s more to Lily’s protection than that. Harry remained protected when he moved in with the Dursley family because, as sisters, Lily and Petunia shared the same blood. Dumbledore knew this, which was why he chose the family to take care of Harry after becoming an orphan, and insisted on Harry returning to the Dursleys every summer despite their ill treatment of him.

Lily’s protection still encompassed Harry when he started at Hogwarts. Voldemort was unable to touch Harry, and if he tried, he would be a victim of serious pain – as proven in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The love protection spell lifted when Harry turned seventeen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is why he had to be hurried away from the Dursleys’ house in the dead of night. However, Lily’s protective charm was unwittingly extended by Voldemort himself, who ended up spelling his own doom.

Why Would Dumbledore Lead Harry Towards The Hallows

Dumbledore does not put Harry on the quest for the Deathly Hallows. He sends him on a philosophical quest. Through the moral of the tale, he wants Harry to understand that the only way to win against death is to accept it, not resist it. Dumbledore does not want Harry to possess all three Hallows there is no way he could guarantee Harry will obtain the wand he wants Harry to understand that Voldemort is mistaken in his quest for the Elder Wand, that it is not where lies the solution.

Differences Between The Book And The Video Game Adaptation

In the video game version of the duel, Harry reveals himself after he jumps from Hagrid’s arms. Draco runs over to Harry and gives him his wand, before running over to Neville. Then Voldemort and Harry duel while Draco runs off with his family. After three extreme hits by Harry, Voldemort lifts himself up in black smoke and follows Harry. Harry runs through the Grand Staircase and the corridors while he and Voldemort are yelling at each other. Later they find themselves in the Catwalks by the Quad battlements, in which they duel again. In the end, Voldemort fires a curse on the bridge Harry is standing on, causing him to fall. But before Harry falls, black smoke from Voldemort’s robes grabs Harry. Voldemort then strangles Harry and asks him why he lives. Voldemort then tries to fire a curse at Harry’s scar but is pushed back. Harry then walks towards Voldemort, explaining the Elder Wand‘s mastery. Harry then throws himself and Voldemort off the tower and Voldemort Apparates them both to the Viaduct Courtyard. Voldemort drops the wand and crawls towards it. After the Killing Curse hit him, Harry asks Dumbledore if hes dead, and Dumbledore says no.

Then Im dead too?

Ah, said Dumbledore, smiling still more broadly. That is the question, isnt it? On the whole, dear boy, I think not.

The reason for this, Dumbledore goes on to explain, is that the Dark Lord taking his blood tethered him to life while the Dark Lord lived, since Lilys protection was then inside them both.

He took your blood believing it would strengthen him. He took into his body a tiny part of the enchantment your mother laid upon you when she died for you. Harrys blood in the Dark Lord tied him to life, so he didnt truly die. He was further helped by being the true master of the Elder Wand. It didnt want to kill its master, so the Killing Curse it cast against him wasnt as powerful as it could have been. It had nothing to do with the Resurrection Stone that only brings back the shadows of people who are already dead, it doesnt prevent death.

Online Leaks And Early Delivery

In the week before its release, a number of texts purporting to be genuine leaks appeared in various forms. On 16 July, a set of photographs representing all 759 pages of the US edition was leaked and was fully transcribed prior to the official release date. Flashback To October 1981

Towards the end of the Second Wizarding War in 1980, seer Sybill Trewlaney and Albus Dumbledore met at the Hogs Head for an interview. Trewlaney applied for the position of the Divination professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but Dumbledore was disappointed by the interview and was about to reject her application. However, as he was about to leave, Trewlaney entered a trance and provided him with a real prophecy:

She predicted that a boy that had the power to defeat Voldemort was born towards the end of July 1980 to parents who have defied Voldemort in three occasions. This boy would have a power Voldemort could not understand or ever have for himself. And if more than one person fulfilled these requirements, Voldemorts decision on who it was would ultimately determine who this Chosen One is. Voldemort chose Harry because both of them were half-blood while Neville was a pureblood.

Hero In The Hunger Games

First, he had to defeat a monster, Grendel. Next, he had to defeat Grendels mother. Lastly, he had to defeat the dragon. How Does Harry Potter Come Back To Life Without The Resurrection Stone

Harry survived the Killing curse because of his mothers protection. The night Voldemort killed his parents, Lilly created a magical protection power originating from love.

The protection was supposed to be lifted once harry turned seventeen, however, Voldemort accidentally prolonged its effects. Voldemort concluded that if he mixes Harrys blood into his resurrection potion, it would course through his veins and allow him to bypass Lillys protection and allow him to touch Harry without getting hurt.

What Voldemort didnt know is that this would also make sure the protection continues to live through his own blood and keep Harry alive.

This is why when Harry got hit by the Killing curse he did end up in J. K. Rowlings version of heaven he wasnt actually dead. After the conversation with professor Dumbledore, he got the chance to either stay with him or return to the real world.
