Oliver Wood Is Wrong About The Rules Of Quidditch In The First Film

In the film, Gryffindor Quidditch captain Oliver Wood explains the rules of the wizarding game to Harry by saying that if the seeker catches the golden snitch, that team wins.

But that’s not always true.

The book clarifies that catching the snitch ends the game and earns your team an additional 150 points, so the team “almost always wins.” But, if your team is down by more than 150 points, catching the golden snitch would actually make you lose.

He Never Became An Animagus

Many Animagi are seen in the Harry Potter movies. Professor McGonagall can be seen transforming from a cat form, James Potter could turn into a Stag, Sirius Black a dog, Peter Pettigrew a rat, and Professor Lupin a werewolf – only he couldnt help it when there was a full moon.

With two of his relatives being able to transform into animals, many assumed that Harry would learn the skill, but he never does.

Harry accomplished a lot for himself and his family after the events in The Deathly Hallows, but apparently Harry never felt the need to master the art of Animagi.

Typically an animagus correlates with a Wizard’s Patronus, which means that Harry would hypothetically turn into a stag if he were to master the skill.

The Movies Never Explained Where Fred And George Got The Money To Open Their Magical Joke Shop

The Weasleys are not a wealthy family, and we’re reminded of this numerous times throughout the series.

That makes it difficult to imagine how Fred and George easily accomplish their dream of dropping out of school and opening a joke shop.

When the twins start selling their products in “Order of the Phoenix” and open up the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes shop in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” no one questions how they paid for it all.

But readers of the books will know that Harry gave them the 1,000 galleons he earned from winning the Triwizard Tournament.

Fred And George Weasley’s Departure From Hogwarts

Sorcerers Stone also perfectly balances exciting action with touching emotion, as Harry finds a true family in Ron and Hermione after years of misery with the Dursleys. Indeed, the books small, moving moments such as Harry being floored by a gift from Rons mother, or Hermiones tearful declaration at the end about books and cleverness are just as magical as the spells themselves.

He Refused To Save Cedric Diggory

It was clearly a traumatic experience for Harry when Voldemort took Cedric Diggorys life right in front of him.

Diggory may have been his competition in winning the Triwizard Tournament, but he was still a classmate and friend. Despite Harrys guilt over not being to save Cedric, Harry refused to go back in time to save Cedric when Amos Diggory asked him to.

Harry learned the danger of time travel from Hermione and he knew it could drastically damage the present if he changed the past.

Harrys son Albus didnt agree with his fathers decision, however, and decided to travel back in time with Draco Malfoys son – Scorpius – in order to save Cedric.

The Effects Of Polyjuice Potion Aren’t Consistent In The Films

When Ron and Harry use Polyjuice Potion to transform into Crabbe and Goyle in the second book, Harry’s thoughts read, “… Then he realized that his glasses were clouding his eyes because Goyle obviously didn’t need them he took them off and called, ‘Are you two okay?’ Goyle’s low rasp of a voice issued from his mouth.”

This clearly tells readers that under the effects of the potion you take on both the vision and voice of the person you’ve become. But this isn’t what we see play out in the films.

For one thing, in the second movie, Harry keeps his glasses on until Draco questions it, insinuating that he doesn’t get Goyle’s vision from drinking the potion. That also creates a discrepancy in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” when Hermione uses Polyjuice Potion to become Harry and remarks on how terrible his eyesight is.

Additionally, Ron and Harry maintain their own voices in the second movie, which is consistent with the characters who become Harry in the first “Deathly Hallows” film, but still inconsistent with the book’s description.

The inconsistencies continue when you take into account that when Barty Crouch Jr. uses Polyjuice Potion to impersonate Mad-Eye Moody in the fourth movie, his voice seemingly does transform.

The Tragic Story Of What Happened To Neville’s Parents Is Largely Skipped Over In The Films

Neville Longbottom plays an increasingly significant role throughout the book and film series, but his backstory, specifically what happened to his parents, was largely left out of the movies.

Alice and Frank Longbottom only appear in the films in a photograph that Sirius shares with Harry in “Order of the Phoenix.”

However, in the fifth book, Harry, Ron, and Hermione accidentally meet Neville’s parents in their hospital room at St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. After they were attacked, captured, and tortured during the First Wizarding War, they both experienced severe mental-health complications that kept them from reentering society or raising their son.

All of this serves as a key motivation for including Neville in the final fight against Voldemort and provides readers with a more in-depth look at the character, but the scene wasn’t included in the fifth movie.

Casting The Roles Of Harry Ron And Hermione

In 2000, after a seven-month search, lead actor Daniel Radcliffe was discovered by producer David Heyman and writer Steve Kloves seated just behind them in a theatre. In Heyman’s own words, “There sitting behind me was this boy with these big blue eyes. It was Dan Radcliffe. I remember my first impressions: He was curious and funny and so energetic. There was real generosity too, and sweetness. But at the same time he was really voracious and with hunger for knowledge of whatever kind.”

Radcliffe had already established himself as an actor in the 1999 BBC television production of David Copperfield in which he played the title role’s childhood years. Heyman persuaded Radcliffe’s parents to allow him to audition for the part of Harry Potter, which involved Radcliffe being filmed. Rowling was enthusiastic after viewing Radcliffe’s filmed test, saying she didn’t think there was a better choice for the part of Harry Potter.

Also in 2000, the then unknown British actors Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were selected from thousands of auditioning children to play the roles of Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively. Their only previous acting experience was in school plays. Grint was eleven years old and Watson ten at the time they were cast.

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child

There was one more book in the Harry Potter series, and it came in 2016. This book moved the story a great deal into the future. The son of Harry and Ginny attended Hogwarts with the daughter of Ron and Hermoine and the son of Draco and Astoria.

The children then get into trouble as Albus Severus Potter is never able to live up to the reputation of his father, who is now the Head of Magical Law and Enforcement. When he tries to go back in time to illegally change the past, he creates a new future where everything Harry did could end up unraveling. This book was published in script format.

We Never See How Bill Weasley Really Got His Scars

At the end of the “Half-Blood Prince” book, there’s a battle at Hogwarts after Dumbledore’s death.

Members of the Order of the Phoenix, including Bill Weasley, show up to fight the Death Eaters, and during the fight, Bill gets attacked by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback.

Bill gets away with just a scar and some side effects since Greyback hadn’t fully transitioned before attacking him.

This battle doesn’t exist in the movie and Bill was removed from the “Goblet of Fire,” “Order of the Phoenix,” and “Half-Blood Prince” films so in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” the character is both introduced to Harry for the first time and has to explain that he fought a werewolf named Greyback.

Harry And Lupin Have A Meeting In His Office In The Third Book And That Becomes Important At The End Of The Series

While the rest of the third years are at Hogsmeade, Lupin and Harry have a conversation in the professor’s office. During the meeting, there’s a Grindylow in the corner of the room that Lupin had just acquired.

In the movie, however, the conversation takes place on the wooden bridge outside of Hogwarts.

This is a small, but important inconsistency because in the “Deathly Hallows – Part 1” film, Lupin still asks Harry, “What creature sat in the corner the first time Harry Potter visited my office at Hogwarts?” in an attempt to prove whether or not he was the real Harry after the Battle of the Seven Potters.

The change in location and lack of Grindylow make this question irrelevant in the films.

We Have No Idea Where Harry Got The Magical Two

In “Order of the Phoenix,” Sirius gives Harry a two-way mirror, but Harry forgets about the gift throughout the fifth book, so they never really use it to communicate.

However, this becomes really important in “Deathly Hallows” when Aberforth Dumbledore, who acquired the other part of the mirror, uses it to keep an eye on Harry and helps the trio escape Malfoy Manor.

The movies never explain that Sirius gave Harry the mirror, and viewers don’t even see it until Harry packs a broken shard of it for their journey in “Deathly Hallows – Part 1.” The significance of the magical object is not explained until later in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.”

Barty Crouch Jr’s Big Reveal In Goblet Of Fire Probably Left Moviegoers With A Lot Of Questions

In “Goblet of Fire,” we find out that the “Mad-Eye Moody” teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts was actually escaped prisoner Barty Crouch Jr. using Polyjuice Potion .

Throughout this reveal, we find out that he’s the one who put Harry’s name in the Goblet of Fire, he helped him figure out the tasks, and he ultimately helped orchestrate his meeting with Voldemort in the graveyard at the end of the Triwizard Tournament.

What doesn’t get explained in the film is how Barty Crouch Jr. escaped from Azkaban in the first place. However, in the book we learn that he and his mother used Polyjuice Potion to swap places, leaving Mrs. Crouch to die in Azkaban.

He Maintained A Relationship With Dudley

Harry never really got along with his Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon, and his cousin Dudley.

He was often treated horribly by his relatives who justified their actions by explaining that they took Harry in when he was a baby and that he never fit in.

Dudley was often mean to his cousin even though Harry never did anything to upset him.

After the last Harry Potter book was released, J.K. Rowling revealed what happened to Harry and Dudleys relationship.

In a Q& A back in 2007 with MTV, Rowling explained that the cousins never really became good friends, but would visit one another so that their children could spend time with their own cousins.

Rowling compared this to being on Christmas-card terms with someone.

The Making Of Harry Potter

In March 2011, Warner Bros. announced plans to build a tourist attraction in the United Kingdom to showcase the Harry Potter film series. The Making of Harry Potter is a behind-the-scenes walking tour featuring authentic sets, costumes and props from the film series. The attraction is located at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, where all eight of the Harry Potter films were made. Warner Bros. constructed two new sound stages to house and showcase the famous sets from each of the British-made productions, following a £100 million investment. It opened to the public in March 2012.
