What Are The Seven Harry Potter Books In Order

Don't Miss

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

I READ ALL 7 HARRY POTTER BOOKS IN 7 DAYS

Or as its known colloquially, Harry Potter and the Worst Camping Trip Ever. After the events of the previous book culminating in another major characters heartbreaking death Harry vows to personally destroy every one of Voldemorts Horcruxes. These Horcruxes are objects containing pieces of Voldemorts soul, rendering him effectively immortal. Which means that if Harry wants even a chance at killing Voldemort face-to-face, hell need to locate and eliminate the Horcruxes first. Its this daunting prospect that leads to the Worst Camping Trip Ever though of course, its brightened somewhat by the presence of the ever-faithful Ron and Hermione.

To be fair, the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows arent as quotidianly miserable as the events of OotP at least we know the characters are suffering for a greater purpose. But that doesnt stop this from being, as you might expect, the darkest book in the series. From the corrupting influence of a locket that causes Ron to abandon his friends, to the tragic prophecy that Harry uncovers through more of Snapes past memories, this book truly tests the readers tolerance for beloved characters in distress.

Book : Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Something of a controversial choice for this high on the list I would argue, however, that the Order of the Phoenix deserves the bronze medal for best Harry Potter book. It is by far the darkest book, with Harry dealing with some very not child-book aimed demons.

Although it is the longest book in terms of pages, its isnt brimming with action, instead focusing more of its time on developing the characters into grown, individually minded young people.

It also has one of the most epic moments out of all the books that being the duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore. Its really the only time we ever see a high level, top tier Wizard duel in the entire series, so thats pretty cool. We couldve probably done without Harrys highly awkward relationship with Cho, but who hasnt had a cringeworthy relationship or two?

In the UK, you can’t currently stream the Harry Potter movies, but you can rent or buy them on Amazon, iTunes and more. HBO Max is expected to launch on British shores soon, but we’re unsure when that’ll be The complete Harry Potter series is also available on Blu-Ray.

Why it’s worth reading? You can’t help but smile when reading this book. It’s funny, filled with strong female characters and leaves you looking at the world a little differently. It is also a great introduction to the Discworld universe as a standalone adventure. If you’ve never read a Terry Pratchett novel, here is a great place to start.

What kind of Potter fan are you? As a kid, I devoured every new Harry Potter book the day they came out. The series opened a door to the world of fantasy and while I’m not true Potterhead, I’m so grateful for how they encouraged my love of reading.

Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone

Youre a wizard, Harry! As Harry turns eleven, he finally learns of his true nature – a wizard celebrated in the magic world for having defeated He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named when he was just a baby. The news was delivered rather forcefully by Hagrid, a gruff half-giant whos bound to accompany Harry on his first mystical adventure.

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone is the novel that started it all. It was first published in the United Kingdom in 1997. The following year, it was released in the United States as Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.

Every Harry Potter Movie Ranked

As with the Harry Potter books, opinions on which entries in the series are the best are incredibly varied and subjective. As a result, ranking the Harry Potter movies by their IMDb user scores reveals a remarkable consistency in fan response, with all eight instalments clustered between 7.4 and 8.1 out of 10.

The two Fantastic Beasts movies are noticeably the least loved releases spawned from JK Rowling’s Wizarding World, a fact perhaps reflected by the second movie’s near 20% drop at the box office compared to its predecessor .

The more successful of the two, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, made less money than all-but-one of the Potter movies . But, seeing as it had 12 years of inflation on its side, its debatable whether it actually outperformed the earlier film.

The Making Of Harry Potter

In March 2011, Warner Bros. announced plans to build a tourist attraction in the United Kingdom to showcase the Harry Potter film series. The Making of Harry Potter is a behind-the-scenes walking tour featuring authentic sets, costumes and props from the film series. The attraction is located at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, where all eight of the Harry Potter films were made. It opened to the public in March 2012.

Differences From The Book

Harry Potter | Ranking all the harry potter books 1 – 7

At 766 pages in the British edition and 870 in the American edition, Order of the Phoenix is the longest book in the Harry Potter series, however the film is the second shortest. Screenwriter Michael Goldenberg described his task to cut down the novel as searching for “the best equivalent way to tell the story. My job was to stay true to the spirit of the book, rather than to the letter”. Goldenberg said that Rowling told him, the producers, and Yates that “she just wanted to see a great movie, and gave permission to take whatever liberties felt needed to take to translate the book into a movie she would love”. Cutting down the book to meet the time frame of the film, Goldenberg explained, became “clearer when figured out that the organising principle of the screenplay was to narrate Harry’s emotional journey”. He and Yates “looked for every opportunity to get everything could in there. And where couldn’t, to sort of pay homage to it, to have it somewhere in the background or to feel like it could be taking place off-screen”.

Rita Skeeter, the journalist played by Miranda Richardson in Goblet of Fire, was also removed. In the book, Hermione blackmails her into writing an article that supports Harry as the rest of the Wizarding world denies his claims. Richardson noted that “it’s never gonna be the book on film, exactly. … They’ll take certain aspects from the book and make it something that they hope is going to be commercial and that people want to see”.

Living In A Corrupted Society

Academics and journalists have developed many other interpretations of themes in the books, some more complex than others, and some including political subtexts. Themes such as normality, oppression, survival, and overcoming imposing odds have all been considered as prevalent throughout the series. Similarly, the theme of making one’s way through adolescence and “going over one’s most harrowing ordealsand thus coming to terms with them” has also been considered. Rowling has stated that the books comprise “a prolonged argument for tolerance, a prolonged plea for an end to bigotry” and that also pass on a message to “question authority and … not assume that the establishment or the press tells you all of the truth”.

Some political commentators have seen J. K. Rowling’s portrayal of the bureaucratised Ministry of Magic and the oppressive measures taken by the Ministry in the later books ” rel=”nofollow”> Mudbloods” with the Ministry) as an allegory of criticising the state.

Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the book that started it all , Harry Potter discovers his true identity in the wee hours of his eleventh birthday: he is a wizard, famous in the magical world for having vanquished the evil Lord Voldemort when he was only a baby. This revelation, delivered by a gruff, hairy giant named Hagrid, sets Harry on a fantastical journey of a lifetime.

He meets bosom buddies Ron and Hermione aboard the Hogwarts Express, and is soon sorted with them into Gryffindor: the house of the intrepid and brave. However, Harry also makes plenty of enemies at Hogwarts, most notably the arrogant Draco Malfoy and the nasty potions master, Snape . And from battling a troll on Halloween to his first exhilarating Quidditch match not to mention the novels climax, in which Harry goes up against Voldemort for the second time in his young life theres never a dull moment in the first year of his new adventure.

Sorcerers Stone also perfectly balances exciting action with touching emotion, as Harry finds a true family in Ron and Hermione after years of misery with the Dursleys. Indeed, the books small, moving moments such as Harry being floored by a gift from Rons mother, or Hermiones tearful declaration at the end about books and cleverness are just as magical as the spells themselves.

Rowling , Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the definitive compendium to the magical beasts that roam the wizarding world. You’ll find some familiar companions such as the Hippogriff, the Basilisk, the Hungarian Horntail but you’ll also discover many, many new creatures to befriend. Harry Potter And The Cursed Child

Ranking All 7 Harry Potter Books

While not part of the original seven-book series, Cursed Child and the accompanying stage play have become a generally accepted addition to the Harry Potter canon. This 336-page text picks up where the Deathly Hallows epilogue left off, with Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Malfoy sending their unfortunately named kids off to Hogwarts Harrys son Albus and Malfoys son Scorpius serve as our protagonists this time around. Upon arrival at Hogwarts, the boys are both sorted into Slytherin and forge an unlikely friendship, which naturally causes tension between Albus and Harry over the next few years.

After a fight with his father, Albus overhears Cedric Diggorys father Amos asking Harry to use a more powerful version of a Time Turner to go back in time and rescue his son. When Harry refuses, Albus enlists Scorpius to help him save Cedric, with the aid of Diggorys niece Delphi. However, as anyone whos seen Back to the Future can attest, messing with timelines is never a good idea especially in the wizarding world. Things are further complicated by the fact that Delphi is not who she says she is, and may have sinister ulterior motives when it comes to rewriting history.

Book : Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince

Prince sets an almost impossibly high bar for the ending of the series, and introduces a lot of vital information about the Wizarding World we just didnt know before. This book is actually incredibly light in tone, especially when compared to the previous book. It has incredibly funny moments, and shows a deeper side to the anti hero of Harry Potter Severus Snape.

Dumbledores death at the end of the sixth is a tragic moment, but it was pretty necessary in order for Harry to come into his own and defeat Voldemort in the seventh, so well forgive Rowling for tugging at our heartstrings.
