So Why Is The New Harry Potter Movie Rated Pg Anyway

Yesterday, Movielines S.T. VanAirsdale considered the reviews, release date, Oscar prospects, and probable grosses for this weeks Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and boldly concluded that the film would be the Dark Knight of 2009. We think the analogy works , and for an additional reason: Do you remember walking out of Dark Knight this week last year and asking yourself how it managed to sneak past the MPAA without a more restrictive rating? Get ready to wonder the same thing about Harry Potter.

Potterphiles plotzed in January when Half-Blood Prince was branded with a PG, even after the last two entries in the series were given PG-13s. But we saw it at a screening last night and were once again impressed with everything Warner Bros. the same studio behind Dark Knight was able to get away with. As New Yorks David Edelstein says in his review this week, Its not a larky kid-pic. Were firmly in the realm of English horror.

According to the press notes, the film earned its rating with scary images, some violence, language, and mild sensuality. And all of those things were in there! In Harry Potter 6, we see the following :

A small girl is lifted by unseen forces and slammed, hard, into the ground.

Someone else is zapped by a wand and falls out of a window.

A family looks on as its home is burned to the ground by Death Eaters.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2

Release Date: July 15, 2011

US Rating: PG-13

UK Rating: PG-12

The final film culminates in the Battle of Hogwarts with losses on both sides, so its no surprise that the Harry Potter series ended with a PG-13 and PG-12 rating. On Harrys side, we see the bodies of Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks, Fred Weasley. We also see Rons ex-girlfriend, Lavender Brown, savaged to death by Fenrir Greyback and feebly stirring before dying from her injuries.

And then we reach the ending where Harry seemingly dies and meets Dumbledore in what looks to be Kings Cross Station. If you read in between the lines, this is a scene where Dumbledore represents Death and gives Harry the option to choose whether he wants to die or return to the world of the living.

The Lord Of The Rings

Not to be confused with the PG-13 rated Peter Jackson adaptation, Ralph Bakshi’s animated fantasy epic brought to life the first of Tolkien’s novels all the way back in 1978. Starring the late John Hurt as Aragorn, as well as Anthony Daniels, the actor best known for playing C3PO, as Legolas, the movie was a charismatic attempt to adapt the lengthy novel.

In some ways, the movie is even more faithful to the novels than its more recent counterpart as it’s focused less on blockbusting action. The only downside of Bakshi’s The Lord of the Rings is that as it lacks any sequels, the experience may feel a bit incomplete compared to Jackson’s comprehensive trilogy.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – Trailer

Why is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix rated PG-13?Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for sequences of fantasy violence and frightening images.

Theres been a lot of discussion about the Potter series growing darker, and certainly in tone and mood this film fulfills that prophecy. However, in our content categories, this one comes up with better grades than the two previous outings. Violence is the greatest concern, with a jump scene and other visions of ghost-like characters and odd-looking creatures that will certainly frighten young children. The death of a character is discussed, and we see a bloodied face in a few quick flashbacks. All other violence is through magic manipulation and people being shocked or knocked over by metaphysical forces. At times characters disintegrate or disappear in a beam me up Scotty type of effect, but nothing gruesome. Sexual content is limited to a single kiss, with absolutely no other activity seen before, during or after. Language includes one mild expletive and another word that is somewhat more objectionable in North America than Britain. Parents sensitive to depictions of occult and satanic-like themes may not find this film suitable for their children.

Every Harry Potter Movie Ranked Worst To Best

Expecto Patronum! From The Sorcerors Stone to The Deathly Hallows, here is the definitive ranking of Harry Potter.

Harry Potter first arrived in theaters fifteen years ago. Let that sink in a minute.

A significant amount of time has passed since we last saw The Boy Who Lived. Social media became a thing, the iPhone was built, three presidential elections have passed, and now a new J.K. Rowling story is headed back to cinemas. History repeats itself, and with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on the horizon, we thought it time to revisit the beloved Harry Potter series and give them the definitive ranking they deserve.

Given the baseline of excellence for every film, this is a formidable task. Is there really a worst film in Harry Potter lore? We shudder at the thought, yet upon closer examination, some entries are clearly stronger than others. Depending on your mood, you may opt for the magic of The Sorcerers Stone, or if youre feeling particularly low, you may want to live in the existential crisis that is The Deathly Hallows, Part One.

Either way, we solemnly swear we are up to no good. Here is Every Harry Potter Movie, Ranked Worst to Best.

The Batman Age Rating

As of today, The Batman has been given an age rating of PG-13, meaning that audiences 13 years of age and older can watch this movie, however, they must do so with an older guardian.

The 2022 film was given this age rating because it has a fair share of scenes where mild nudity, moderate strong language, and moderate substance use can be seen/heard. Stands Out For Positive Messages And Positive Role Models

Most of the messages are inspiring, since the protagonists are clearly “heroes” who accept help from others to overcome obstacles, learn the importance of being loyal to friends, and embody the idea that those who stand together for “good” can triumph over “evil,” even at great cost. Themes include courage, perseverance, and teamwork.

Professor Dumbledore is an excellent, selfless role model. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny are flawed teenagers, but that helps make them some of the most relatable characters in children’s literature — as well as admirable, since they’re also loyal, brave, self-sacrificing, generous, and empathetic. On the flip side are the Death Eaters and the unreliable, enigmatic character of Severus Snape. Tom Riddle is cruel, calculating, and cold — but it’s clear that most characters recognize these troubling qualities. Draco Malfoy, who has been “promoted” to Death Eater, is still shown as conflicted and scared about the task Voldemort assigns him. Professor Slughorn means well, but his head is turned by fame and fortune. Still, in the end, he manages to be brave.

Mild insults/British slang like “daft,” “dimbo” , “idiot,” “bloody,” and the like. A couple of uses of phrases like “good God.”
