Weekend Predictions: Will Fantastic Be Fantastic Or Will It Merely Be A Beast At The Box Office

Harry Potter – All Movies Reviewed and Ranked (part 1)

At the beginning of the month, we thought there would be four wide releases / expansions this week. However, it turns out there will be just one, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The lack of wide releases should help it at the box office and there is a small chance it could top $100 million over the next three days. While there are no other wide releases, there are a few films opening or expanding semi-wide. Of these, The Edge of Seventeen is the only one with a realistic shot at the top five. It is earning the best reviews of the week and did earn a lot of film festival buzz, so that should help. Billy Lynns Long Halftime Walk had an amazing opening in limited release last weekend, but it will likely struggle as it expands into just over 1,000 theaters this weekend. Finally theres Bleed for This, which is expected to barely make the top ten. This weekend last year, the final installment of the Hunger Games franchise opened with just over $100 million. Theres a slim chance Fantastic Beasts will do the same. Even if it doesnt, the depth this year is much better than last year and that should help 2016 win in the year-over-year comparison. More…

Weekend Estimates: Ralph Slips Still Strong Hannah Tops Expectations Still Soft

Ralph Breaks the Internet will retain top spot on the weekend box office chart with an estimated $25.8 million for a two-week total of $119.3 million. Granted, this is lower than we predicted, but not so much lower than anyone at Disney should be panicking. Internationally, the film added an estimated $33.7 million in 27 markets, lifting its international total to $87.7 million after two weeks of release. Its only major market opening of the weekend was the U.K. where it reportedly earned $5.2 million. This is less than Wreck-It Ralph opened with, but that film debuted during the school holidays, so it got a boost. Ralph Breaks the Internet should have longer than average legs thanks to Christmas, but I dont think it will match its predecessor in this market. More…

Q: How Well Do The Harry Potter Movies Follow The Books

The overall plot of each movie follows the corresponding book or books, but minor details diverge. Besides the details left out due to time constraints, some minor characters in the books didnt make it into the movies, including the ghost, Peeves, and the house-elf, Winky, who works in the kitchen at Hogwarts and spends a great deal of time drinking. In the movies, you never learn that a squib is a non-magic person born to wizard parents. They arent the same as muggles who are non-magic people born to other non-magic people.

The character of Victor Krum has much more depth and intelligence in the books compared to the movies where hes portrayed only as a jock.

Another small point that niggles with book fans is the age difference between the actors playing Harry Potters parents in the movies compared to the way the books portray them. The actors are at least a decade older than the very young James and Lily described in the books.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opened in first place on the international chart with $143.3 million in 63 markets. The film had the biggest opening of the Harry Potter franchise in 16 of those 63 markets, but ironically not in the U.K., where it had its biggest opening. The film debuted in first place there with $18.90 million in 666 theaters. This is the third best in the franchise behind the two DeathlyHallows films. Some of the markets where Fantastic Beasts set the franchise record include South Korea, where it made $10.64 million on 1,431 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $14.15 million. â Harry realising his mistakes in regards to his second son

Rising tensions

When Harry picked Albus up from Kings Cross, who had returned from a year at Hogwarts, he was surprised to find Albus distant and colder. This distance was in direct response to the pressure Albus felt regarding Harrys legacy and the expectations that others put on him because of it. Albus and Scorpius Malfoy became fast friends during the year, as they were kindred spirits â they both carry a burden stemming from their family identity and feel that they are misfits and âlosersâ in comparison with the other students at Hogwarts. Harry did not like this and he questioned why Albus was content to have only the one friend. Their relationship would stay strained for the next couple of years to come.

Harry seeing James, Lily, and Rose off to Hogwarts, while Albus stands off to the side

In September 2019, Harry took Albus to Kings Cross yet again where he gave Albus the permission slip he needed to visit Hogsmeade. Albus destroyed the slip by burning it, stating that he had no wish to go to Hogsmeade and left his father behind. This in turn caused Harry to become angry with him. Their father-son relationship continues to deteriorate, going from bad to worse.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the fifth book in the series, releasing in 2003, three years after the previous installment. Harry Potter Movies Ranked

Just like with the Harry Potter books, opinions on which entries in the series are the best are incredibly varied and subjective. Indeed, ranking the Harry Potter movies by their IMDb user scores reveals a remarkable consistency in fan response, with all eight instalments clustered between 7.4 and 8.1 out of 10.

The two Fantastic Beasts movies are noticeably the least loved entries in the Wizarding World, a fact perhaps reflected by the second movies drop in box office. The most successful of the two, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, made more money than just one of the Potter movies , but seeing as it had 12 years of inflation on its side, its debatable whether it actually outperformed the earlier film.

Thursday Night Previews: Grindelwalds Previews Were Fantastic And Beastly

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald earned $9.1 million during previews on Thursday, which is better than Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them managed. Granted, it was better by mere percentage points, as that earlier film earned $8.75 million during its previews. Where it goes from here is a bit of a mystery. On the one hand, its reviews are much worse than the previous installments reviews were and it is a sequel. Both of those facts suggest shorter legs. However, the gap between Fantastic Beasts and the last original Harry Potter film may have resulted in a much more front-loaded run, so The Crimes of Grindelwald could benefit from that. As always, we will know better this time tomorrow when Friday estimates are out. More…

Daily Box Office: Ralph Slips But Is Still Thankful

Yesterday was Thanksgiving and some studios were closed for the day, but we have a full list of box office numbers today. Ralph Breaks the Internet continued to lead the way at the box office with $10.3 million on Thursday for a two-day total of $28.8 million. The film is still well above Coco and Moanas two-day pace, but it fell 44% from its Wednesday debut, which is a sharper decline than either of those two films suffered. It is on pace to dominate the five-day weekend with $85 million, which is below yesterdays pace and below Frozens record-setting wide expansion, but I cant imagine there are many people at Disney that are disappointed with this result. The films reviews and its A minus from CinemaScore, plus its family friendly target audience should help it last in theaters till the new year and it should be profitable enough that the studio will want to turn the franchise into a trilogy. The Lord Of The Rings By J R R Tolkien

5 Things Harry Potter Books Did Better than the Movies – Harry Potter Explained

A notoriously slow writer, it took J. R. R Tolkien to finish his book, The Hobbit. However, the success of The Hobbit prompted the publisher to request a sequel from Tolkien, which he began writing at age 45. This story, The Lord of the Rings, wasnt published until Tolkien was 63 years old. The reason for the slow progress was the fact that he still had a full-time academic position. He also abandoned the book for most of 1943 before continuing progress the next year. Even after completing the novel Tolkien continued with revisions before eventually ending up with more than 9250 pages of manuscripts. Issues with publishers further delayed the eventual publishing of the book, which at that point had been split into three parts, until years later.

Contest: Game Of Chance

There are three wide releases, but only two of them have any chance of becoming more than a midlevel hit. Free Birds is a digitally animated family film that has a very timely release, but it is also a second-tier CG animated film. Ender’s Game is a $110 million film based on a book aimed at young adults. It is yet another film trying to tap into the vacuum left behind by Harry Potter. I don’t think either of them will be big hits, but one of them has to be the target film. I think Free Birds will have better legs, but that Ender’s Game will have a better opening. As such, it is the target film for this week’s box office prediction contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for Ender’s Game. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film’s opening 3-day weekend box office , regardless if they go over or not, will win a copy of The Conjuring on Blu-ray Combo Pack.

How Many Pages Does Each Harry Potter Book Have How Long Is Each Movie Adaptation Is There A Relationship Between The Two

Its an interesting question: is there a pattern to how lengthy the Harry Potter books are vs. how long their movie adaptations are? Logic would dictate that the movies get lengthier as the source material does, but thats not always the way it shakes down. In fact, after laying the numbers out end to end, its revealed that the last four movies are shorter on average than the first four, despite the books becoming more complex. Behold:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone

  • Book: 310 pages

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

  • Book: 341 pages

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

  • Book: 435 pages

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

  • Book: 734 pages

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

  • Book: 870 pages

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

  • Book: 652 pages

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

  • Book: 759 pages
  • Part 1: 146 minutes
  • Part 2: 130 minutes

This reveals some weird facts. For example, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the longest of the movies, despite it being the second-shortest of the books. On the flip side, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the second-shortest of the movies, despite it being the lengthiest novel.

Ah, wellwe cant change the past. Complaining about it, on the other hand
