How Did Tom Riddle Turn Into Voldemort

He Probably Could’ve Gotten A Job At The Ministry Of Magic

The Story of Lord Voldemort: Tom Riddle Origins Explained (Re-Upload July, 2017)

As one of the top students in his class, Tom Riddle was bound to have many opportunities presented to him after finishing at Hogwarts.

In his final year, Professor Slughorn offered to set him up with job interviews by using his connections at the Ministry of Magic.

Instead, after getting rejected for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position at Hogwarts, Riddle went to work at Borgin and Burkes antique shop. It was this job that gave him the opportunity to acquire both Salazar Slytherin’s locket and Helga Hufflepuff’s cup, which he turned into Horcruxes.

A Growing Affinity For Snakes

Growing up in a world without magic was a defining experience for Voldemort. He wasn’t just surrounded by what he would go on to view as the mundanities of the muggle world, he was trapped at one of the lowest and most pitiable levels of it: an early 20th-century orphanage. He was alone, with no one to guide him but distant matrons and teachers whose intelligence did not match his own. Sure, he could probably tell he was uncommonly clever and good-looking from an early age, but given how fervently he proclaimed to Dumbledore that he knew all along that he was “special,” it is likely that his sense of self was bigger than even those formidable talents.

He was not, however, without any magical experiences during this time. As he told Dumbledore upon learning of his abilities, he had already been speaking to snakes for some time. In a life as lonely as his had been, this was probably a great comfort, in addition to being a confirmation of the greatness he so dearly wanted to embody. Snakes were friends, proof of his special talents, and could be coerced into doing his bidding. Years later, Voldemort would disfigure himself in a strikingly snake-life way, transforming his nose into flat, colorless slits and ridding himself of hair. He didn’t just want to inspire fear he wanted to honor the creatures he’d felt an affinity towards for decades.

Magical Abilities And Skills

Voldemort demonstrates his power in the Ministry of Magic

Lord Voldemort was the most powerful, skilled and dangerous dark wizard of all time. He was amongst the greatest wizards to have ever lived, often considered to be the second most powerful wizard in history, his only superior being Albus Dumbledore. Voldemort was extremely talented even while still a student of Hogwarts, with Albus Dumbledore himself saying Voldemort was the most brilliant student to have ever attended Hogwarts. As an adult, Voldemort became a tremendously powerful and accomplished wizard of nearly unrivalled skill, admired and feared by even the most powerful wizards and witches. Combined with his utter megalomania, Voldemort was regarded as the most powerful and most dangerous Dark Wizard of all time, being the only dark wizard to surpass Gellert Grindelwald.

His Greatest Fear Was His Own Death

Boggarts are magical shape-shifters that transform into whatever a witch or wizard fears the most.

In a 2005 interview with the fan site Mugglenet, Rowling said that Voldemort’s greatest fear is “ignominious death,” and if he ever encountered a boggart, he would probably see his own lifeless body.

Even without this insight, it is clear that Voldemort does everything in his power including fragmenting his soul seven times throughout the series to live up to his name and beat death.;

The Incident In The Cave

One of the scariest and most mysterious moments from Voldemort’s past was when he lured two orphans into the cave from The Half-Blood Prince. The two orphans, Amy Benson and Dennis Bishop, also lived at Wools with Tom at the time. Both of them were changed forever because of whatever went down in that place. J.K. Rowling revealed very few details about this particular incident, but she does say that the young Tom Riddle performed an act that was so disturbing that the two children never spoke about it again.

Whatever Tom did in that cave traumatized the orpans so much that they absolutely refused to share what he had done.

In fact, they seemed quite strange and removed ever since.

French: Tom Elvis Jedusor

The name Voldemort is actually French and means “flight of death.” But the French translator still had to do some finessing when it came to Voldemort’s given name. Along with sharing a middle name with The King, Elvis Presley, Voldemort’s last name in French holds additional meaning, according to the Adventures on the Bookshelf blog from Oxford University. The blog noted that Jedusor is a play on the phrase “jeu du sort,” which means “twist of fate” or “game of chance,” and could also be a reference to the phrase “jeter un sort,” which means “to cast a spell.” The clever and snazzy name change leads to Riddle being able to write, “Je suis Voldemort” ââ¬â “I am Voldemort.”

What If Dumbledore Knew That Tom Riddle Would Become Lord Voldemort?

Since “I am” in Spanish is “Soy,”changing Voldemort’s Muggle name was relatively simple to get the anagram to work. Beyond tinkering with “Marvolo,” the translator simply spelled riddle with a “y” to end up with “Soy Lord Voldemort.” According to Oxford Dictionaries, it appears that the English word “Lord” would still be understandable to Spanish readers and viewers.

Who Is Tom Riddle

Getting to Know You

Tom Marvolo Riddle was born on New Years Eve on December 31, 1926, as a half-blood wizard, the only child of the Muggle Tom Riddle and the witch Merope Riddle. Since his mother died after giving birth to him and his father left his family, he grew up in Wools orphanage, a Muggle orphanage in London.

Riddle grew up unaware of his wizarding heritage because the orphanage staff didnt know anything about his parents, especially his mother. They believed she was a circus worker.

Despite knowing anything about his parents, Tom Riddle quickly realized he was different from the other children in the orphanage. He discovered that only with the power of his mind he could move objects and make them float.

He learned to manipulate animals and other creatures and also spoke Parseltongue the language of serpents. After an argument with colleague Billy Stubbs, he used his power to hang the boys rabbit.

Now, imagine a child, an orphan who is factually different than everyone he knows. This kind of trauma would either turn him into a hero or a vicious villain. In any movie, book, song, or real life, you see neglected children and teenagers who fight the invisible battles.

Tom was a child fueled by rage and questions. Why was he left alone, why was he different? And inevitably, will anyone ever understand him? Even though Albus Dumbledore was a prominent authority figure who came into his life, Tom needed a different approach. Or he just needed to get those feelings out.

Harry Riddle And Tom Potter

Harry Riddle and Tom PotterThe Hero, the Nemesis and the Connection Between Them

Some would say that Harry Potter is a Bildungsroman story, about the growth of the protagonist from childhood to adulthood. Others argue that it is a fantasy story containing a quest, magical powers and an Other World. Many include Harry Potter in the boarding school genre of stories with lessons, school houses, rule-breaking and friendships all playing an important part in the stories. The Harry Potter books encompass all of these things, but at the very core of the story is the connection, the struggle and the looming battle between Tom Riddle and Harry Potter.

While representing the two polarities of good and evil, the two characters share many similar experiences and have many things in common from the circumstances of their childhoods, their school years at Hogwarts, their relationships with peers and friends, and their personality traits. It goes without saying that there are also many differences which set them apart but take away the roughly fifty years that separate them in age, and you will see that J.K. Rowling has given us a hero and a villain who are remarkably similar. The similarities and differences between them mean that one is almost a mirror image of the other. They share enough things in common to appear to be the same person, and yet the differences between them show us that they have chosen different paths in life.

What Did Voldemort Look Like Before He Killed The Potters

If Voldemort was ‘reborn’ in that massive cauldron at the end of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and came out with red eyes looking like a snake and stuff, what would he have looked like beforehand??

I mean, in the Chamber of Secrets he was a normal looking person and what not, so would he have kept looking like a normal human up until the time that he killed Lily and James or would he have changed his appearance before that as well?

He Was A Teacher’s Pet

Later in life, it’s fair to say that Voldemort had problems with authority. After all, he waged war against authorities such as the Ministry of Magic and authority figures such as Dumbledore, and he wasn’t satisfied until he had himself and his cronies installed in relevant positions of power. All of this makes it that much more surprising that young Tom Riddle was a teacher’s pet!

Perhaps the best evidence of this is that he ended up as a close friend of Professor Slughorn, and he was invited to join the so-called Slug Club along with other impressive pupils that Slughorn thought would go on to make a major difference in the world.

However, Tom Riddle did everything for a reason, and his primary reason for being so friendly with Slughorn was so that he could get forbidden secrets from the man. This included knowledge of how Horcruxes worked, which ended up being a key part of Riddle’s future plans.

Chapter Thirteen: The Very Secret Diary

Page 1 Page 2

Summary

On the way back from visiting Hermione, who is in the hospital wing recovering from her cat-state, Harry and Ron hear Filch yelling at someone, and they round the corner to see a flood of water seeping out of Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom. The boys step inside to look around, and they immediately spy a diary bobbing in the toilet. They examine it and see the name T.M. Riddle written on the first page, but the rest of the pages are blank. Ron recalls the name from his trophy-polishing detention as the boy who was rewarded for special services to the school fifty years ago. Harry feels a strange familiarity to the name, and so he pockets the diary. They show it to Hermione when she is fully cured, and she concludes that Riddle, who was commended fifty years before, must have caught the Heir of Slytherin, who had opened the Chamber of Secrets fifty years before. She tries to make words appear on the pages, but with no success.

Analysis

The incident with the Valentine’s Day dwarf does then amount to something beside Harry’s humiliation, in that it demonstrates the ink-absorbing property of the very secret diary, inspiring Harry to experiment writing in it. We are also reminded in this incident of Ginny’s long-standing crush on Harry, something that appears in certain occasions but as of yet has not taken its place in the plot.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

Tom Riddle

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort furthers his quest for ultimate power. He disposes of the Minister for Magic and replaces him with Pius Thicknesse, who is under the Imperius Curse. Establishing a totalitarianpolice state, he has Muggle-borns persecuted and arrested for “stealing magic” from the “pure blood” wizards. After failing to kill Harry with Draco’s father Lucius Malfoy‘s borrowed wand , he goes on a murderous search for the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand ever created, seeing it as the weapon he needs to overcome Harry’s wand and make him truly invincible. He goes on a quest that takes him out of the country to Gregorovitch‘s wand shop, where he kills the old wandmaker. His journey also takes him to Nurmengard, the prison where Gellert Grindelwald is kept, and he kills Grindelwald as well. He finally locates the Elder Wand and steals it from Dumbledore’s tomb.

Rowling stated that after his death, Voldemort is forced to exist in the stunted infant-like form that Harry sees in the King’s Cross-like Limbo after his confrontation with Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest. Rowling also mentioned that, despite his extreme fear of death, he cannot become a ghost.
