Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Movie REVIEW Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Release Date: July 11, 2007 and July 12, 2007

US Rating: PG-13

UK Rating: PG-12

The film maintains its PG-13 and PG-12 ratings for the US and UK cinemas, respectively. This may be due to the scenes in the Ministry of Magic where Sirius Black dies and the Death Eaters try to harm Harry and his friends.

There are also allusions to the fact that Bellatrix Lestrange enjoyed torturing Neville Longbottoms parents. During Dolores Umbridges stint as Headmaster, she also subjected the students to small physical torture. Harry also experiences his first romance with Cho Chang.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1

Release Date: November 19, 2010

US Rating: PG-13

UK Rating: PG-12

The US rating would go back to PG-13 and the UK rating stayed in the PG-12 rating. However, director David Yates said that the scene where Bellatrix tortures Hermione went on for over five minutes. If this is true and actress Emma Watsons screams were as horrible as he claims, its likely that having that uncut scene in the final film would have raised the film rating.

With Dumbledore dead and Harry no longer welcome at Hogwarts with Voldemort taking over the Ministry of Magic, the film series took a much darker turn. The movie has plenty of violent scenes both on Harry and the captured Muggle-borns. And, of course theres this sexually suggestive scene.

The Harry Potter films have remained firm favorites since the final movie was released back in 2011 that’s because JK Rowling’s books about the boy wizard are evergreen reading for kids, and that the iconography has become a part of the wider pop culture landscape, from theme parks to video games.;

The Harry Potter movies, meanwhile, remain a mostly faithful and enjoyable way to ingest the story of the series. While they arguably get a little too dark later on, reflected in changes in visual style to remove some of the charm from its setting, the first three in particular form a great arc. While movies one and two are like Spielberg-style kids’ films, the third is moodier but more dramatically satisfying.;

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child

Despite achieving a domestic happily-ever-after at the end of The Deathly Hallows, Harry, Ron, and Hermione reunited for another adventure in 2016 courtesy of The Cursed Child, a two-part play that picks up with Potter in adulthood, as an employee at the Ministry of Magic and the father to a son, Albus Severus Potter, heading off to Hogwarts. On the page, Jack Thornes sequel based on an original story by Rowling, Thorne, and John Tiffany is a minor letdown, in large part because the material has been conceived, from the ground up, as something to be seen rather than read. Those lucky enough to have checked it out in London , know that, while the tale itself wasnt exactly necessary , its theatrical staging is a routine marvel, so inventive that it remains a must-see for casual and die-hard Potterphiles alike.

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter films are probably best watched in close proximity to each other, as a lot of the fall out from the previous movie is dealt with at the start of the next one. Here, though, the word fallout is probably a bit tactless.

This is the one where Dumbledore dies and so, logically, its the funniest movie of the series. It starts slowly, with Harry missing the Godfather he barely knew, then turns into a romantic comedy for most of its duration, then occasionally remembers that the Dark Lord is trying to kill Harrys old teacher and cuts to Draco Malfoy looking miserable by a cupboard.

Michael Gambon is having a ball now as Dumbledore, after an iffy second film, gleefully indulging in spaced-out non-sequiturs. The three leads display excellent comic timing. For Rupert Grint, this isnt a shock as hes been the Gimli of the franchise since its early days, but its nice to see Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe get some punchlines in, meaning this film has uniquely frivolous moments such as the But I am the chosen one scene.

As a drama, though, it seems oddly muted. Arthur Weasley seems only mildly irked at the destruction of his house, and the death of Dumbledore is rushed. Its a very odd film, this one, structurally and tonally. Its like someone decided to remake The Empire Strikes Backwith a rom-com instead of Yoda, and then got carried away.

Harry Potter And The Forbidden Journey

Anyone traveling to Universal Studios theme parks in Orlando, Los Angeles, or Osaka will undoubtedly make the pilgrimage to the local Wizarding World outpost to quaff some butterbeer, tame a hippogriff, and, of course, tag along for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. The fully immersive thrill ride in and around Hogwarts Castle, replete with live-action 3D sequences featuring many of the franchises film stars, is a signature attraction. Putting guests beside an airborne Harry as he dodges the Whomping Willow, evades Hagrids enormous Hungarian Horntail dragon, and fends off dastardly dementors during a Quidditch match, Forbidden Journey is a consistently entertaining roller coaster simulation, albeit one lacking the same narrative focus as its park counterpart Escape From Gringotts. Any chance to enjoy some vertiginous thrills with the boy wizard isnt to be missed, especially if one has already had their fill of Diagon Alley.

Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone

Release Date: November 4, 2001

US Rating: PG

UK Rating: PG

Also known as Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone in the United States, the film had only PG ratings in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It means that audiences of all ages are allowed to watch the film in cinemas, but young children must be accompanied by a parent. This is because there are some scenes that some parents wouldnt want their children to watch without them having to explain.

Looking back, I think its because of scenes like the flashback of Voldemort killing Harrys mother, the abuse Harry receives from the Dursleys, the scene of Voldemort drinking from unicorn blood, Ron falling unconscious, Quirrell trying to strangle Harry to death, and Quirrell disintegrating. Some parents may not see them as extremely violent scenes, but there are those who might think that their children are too sensitive for such material.

“Sorcerer’s Stone” will always be warmly remembered as the beginning of an unforgettable series for many fans.

Movie REVIEW Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Warner Bros. bought the rights to Rowlings enormously popular book series for;£1 million , and the search was on for the right filmmaker to bring the Wizarding World to the screen.

At one point,;Steven Spielberg;was in the running to direct, only he wanted this to be an animated film starring the voice of;Haley Joel Osment. Eventually the reins were handed to;Columbus, and our introduction to Harry, Ron and Hermione still casts a spell of classically influenced, patient movie enchantment nearly two decades later.;Some of the CGI effects looked fairly choppy even in 2001, and many of them have not held up. The Quidditch match is still a marvel though.

Sorcerers Stone;grossed an enormous $974.8 million. At the time it was the second highest-grossing movie ever behind only;Titanic.

Roger Ebert compared this movie to;The Wizard of Oz;and christened it a classic right off the bat.;He;praised its stately pacing for taking the time to be good, and called;Sorcerers Stone;a;red-blooded adventure movie, dripping with atmosphere, filled with the gruesome and the sublime.

The best part:;Alan Rickmans pitch-perfect, mysterious Professor Severus Snape steals the show. A theme Rowling visits throughout her saga is: things are rarely what they seem, never judge a book by its cover. Snape, the strongest and most captivating character in her Wizarding World, embodies this.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire 88%

The tale of the Triwizard Tournament remains a firm fan favourite, although to be completely honest, Ive never quite understood why. Dont get me wrong, the central concept of Europes top wizarding schools duking it out in a magic-fueled Olympics is absolutely brilliant, and theres plenty of fun to be had with the set pieces crafted around the individual challenges. What I find a bit frustrating here is the tone, which just feels a bit Off. In the first three Harry Potter flicks, magic is presented as something thats fun and awe-inspiringa gift that wizards and witches are lucky to possess. In The Goblet of Fire, it seems more like a curse that weighs heavily on everyones shoulders; particularly Ron and Hermione, who are in a completely miserable mood throughout. Granted, theyve got plenty of reason to be, given their treatment by Tournament officials: At one point, theyre actually kidnapped and chained underwater as props in a Tournament contest. Poor Cedric Diggory fares even worse, of course, murdered so that Voldemort can finally be reborn. Its a fairly radical shift in tone to a darker, more cynical Hogwarts than weve seen before, and , the transition is a bit of a bumpy ride.
