On film Harry Potter was portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe, at the time a relatively unknown child actor. His friends Ron and Hermione were played by Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, respectively. Irish actor Richard Harris assumed the role of Dumbledore for the first two films and was replaced after his death by Michael Gambon for the remainder of the series. Voldemort was played by Ralph Fiennes, and his followers included Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy and Helena Bonham Carter as the mad witch Bellatrix Lestrange, among others.

There Are Three Other Things To Look For When Trying To Determine If You Have A Harry Potter First Edition

  • Is there an old or young wizard pictured on the spine or the back of the book? The young Wizard is much rarer and therefore worth more money.
  • On the title page of the book does it say Joanne Rowling instead of J.K Rowling? This was changed in later editions as it was felt the series would be great for encouraging boys to read but they might not want to read it if they thought it was written by a woman.
  • Harrys equipment list for Hogwarts on page 53 there is a typo in very early editions the word wand is listed twice, once at the top and once at the bottom again this was changed in later editions once the error had been spotted.

Also, take a good look at the tagline on the front cover of the book. The earliest editions have a quote from Wendy Coolidge which reads A terrific read and stunning first novel. Then, later ones have a quote from the Telegraph. Later one again has a Smarties book prize quote.

    R.K. Rowling you should really make a movie for the Cursed Child book. Also you should do a whole series on their kids cause people were really interested in the Cursed Child. Also the reason why you should do a movie is because there is already a script written out and your letting many Harry Potter fans down including myself.     Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is a fantasy novel written by British author J. K. Rowling. The first novel in the Harry Potter series and Rowling’s debut novel, it follows Harry Potter, a young wizard who discovers his magical heritage on his eleventh birthday, when he receives a letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry makes close friends and a few enemies during his first year at the school, and with the help of his friends, he faces an attempted comeback by the dark wizard Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry’s parents, but failed to kill Harry when he was just 15 months old.

    Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, along with the rest of the Harry Potter series, has been attacked by some religious groups and banned in some countries because of accusations that the novels promote witchcraft under the guise of a heroic, moral story.     Theres quite a bit to unpack in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, so well dive right in: after attending an eventful Quidditch World Cup with Hermione and the Weasley family, Harry returns to Hogwarts for his fourth year of school. Its bound to be an exciting one, as Hogwarts is hosting the Triwizard Tournament, in which students from three major wizarding academies will compete. However, only students aged seventeen or older are eligible for the competition, which means Harry is safe for once or so he thinks, until the ceremonial Goblet of Fire selects him as the fourth Triwizard Champion for no discernible reason.

    What follows is a nonstop sequence of thrills, landmarked by the challenges of the tournament in which the contestants must tackle menacing dragons, malevolent mermaids, and a maze full of potentially fatal tricks and traps. But even between the challenges themselves is plenty of riveting drama, especially with Rita Skeeter , Mad-Eye Moody , and Hermiones most recent social justice cause . And as anyone whos read it will know, the GoF finale is unprecedented in terms of dark, difficult material, signaling a definitive shift for the series in a more mature direction.

    How To Tell If You Have A Harry Potter First Edition

    Firstly its important to establish what actually constitutes a Harry Potter first edition. As the book series grew in popularity the later books were printed by the millions even on the first print run, so for the final books in the series first editions are not remotely rare. I actually have first editions of both Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but sadly theyre not worth anything.

    In this post, Im going to focus on how to tell if you have a first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone as thats the one thats most likely to be worth some money.

    If youre looking for a copy because youre a collector then its worth being aware of the fact there are lots of copies being sold on eBay that arent actually proper first editions they are first editions of later print runs such as the Tedsmart copies and the celebration copies. These arent worth much as they are not a real first edition but often eBay sellers either dont know the difference or dont care and are attempting to dupe people.

    Be careful to make sure copies are by the first publisher. For all of the Harry Potter books, the first publisher is Bloomsbury. The first three Harry Potter first edition, first print books can be worth thousands of pounds. The value then decreases incrementally with the second, third and fourth prints, and so on.

As a member of the University of Michigan theater troupe Starkid, a young Darren Criss starred as Harry Potter in the viral YouTube video A Very Potter Musical, and his popularity catapulted him into the role of Blaine on Glee and a career on Broadway.

    Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

    The third book in the series introduces Sirius Black, a deranged mass murderer whos just escaped from the wizard prison of Azkaban. As a result, swarms of Dementors dark, faceless beings that suck the soul out of their victims and serve as the guards of Azkaban infiltrate Hogwarts to patrol for Black, whos supposedly after Harry next. To make matters worse, our normally steadfast hero has a bad reaction to the Dementors, which cause him to faint on a train and even lose a critical Quidditch match.

    Again, though, its not all doom and gloom. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban also features Professor Remus Lupin, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and a school friend of Harrys late father. Lupin and Harry quickly forge a father-son-like relationship themselves, and Lupin teaches Harry the Patronus Charm to protect himself from Dementors.

    Meanwhile, Ron and Hermione are squabbling even more than usual over their respective pets, Crookshanks the cat and Scabbers the rat. But what seems like a lighthearted subplot turns out to be a major factor in one of the biggest twists of the series, revealed in the last few chapters and which naturally involves Black and Lupin as well. Oh, and hippogriffs and time traveling, in case that wasnt enough to sell you on it.

    The Apothecary sells scales, potions and potion ingredients. The shop is quite fascinating despite its very bad smell . The inside includes barrels of slimy stuff on the floor, jars of herbs, dried roots and bright powders on the shelves, and bundles of feathers, strings of fangs and snarled claws hanging from the ceiling. Harry regularly buys ingredients, as well as his scales, from the Apothecary.

    Some of the ingredients available are silver unicorn horns , glittery-black beetle eyes , and Dragon liver .

    Harry Potter By Jk Rowling Books

    This story tells the life of Harry Potter, a ten-year-old boy who will discover that he is a wizard. A fact of which he had no idea and that will change his life forever. But thats not all, Harry is not a mere wizard he is a child who unconsciously defeated the most powerful wizard of all time, Lord Voldemort.

    The ride on the Hogwarts Express starts from King’s Cross railway stationplatform 9+3â4, which is hidden from view, and reached by walking through the barrier between platforms 9 and 10.

    Rowling discovered after the books were published that she had confused the layout of King’s Cross with that of Euston station, and that platforms 9 and 10 at King’s Cross were not the ones between which she had meant her magical platform to be placed. There is no platform between lines 9 and 10 at King’s Cross. To solve this, the filmmakers re-numbered platforms 4 and 5 for the duration of filming. In reality, at both King’s Cross and Euston, platforms 9 and 10 are separated by railway lines. The exterior shots in the film are of the St Pancras Renaissance London Hotel, which is part of St Pancras station, adjacent to King’s Cross station.     The most important thing to look at when trying to ascertain whether or not you have a Harry Potter First Edition is what Print Run it is. As a first edition, it should count down 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1. The earlier the print run, the more its worth. The very early first editions are all hardback editions designed for libraries and initially, there were just 500 released and therefore these can be worth a heck of a lot of money.

    There are not many of these editions left making them extremely rare, however, even second and third editions of these copies are worth a fair bit of money.

    Things take a turn for the expository in this penultimate installment, which sees Harry learn all about Voldemorts family and origin story, so to speak. Dumbledore gives Harry these lessons to prepare him for a grand future battle with Voldemort, presumably in the vein of keeping his enemies closer. What Harry doesnt know is that Dumbledore is planning something even bigger a plan that he, Harry, becomes more inexorably entangled in with each passing day.

    At the same time, Harry suspects Malfoy to be colluding with Voldemort, and begins obsessively tracking him on the Marauders Map. But each new lead just seems to be a wrong turn, and Harry grows increasingly frustrated with the lack of evidence when he knows that Malfoy is guilty. His only good luck, funnily enough, is in potions class. After receiving a secondhand textbook filled with tips and tricks from the mysterious Half-Blood Prince, Harry shines under the tutelage of their new potions professor Slughorn. Hermione, meanwhile, is jealous of Harrys newfound academic success, and attempts to uncover the Princes identity to prove hes crooked.

    Harry Potters Popularity Completely Changed The Publishing Industry And The Effect Spilled Over To Hollywood

    Here are just two of the ways Harry Potter changed publishing, and how those changes affected the rest of pop culture:

    1) The books made it possible to publish long works aimed at children. Prior to Harry Potter, the accepted wisdom was that kids didnt have the attention span to read long books. And anyway, the thinking went, kids werent buying their own books. Their parents were paying for everything, and they would never be willing to pay an extra dollar or two for a longer book, with its extra printing and binding.

    But after Harry Potter became an unstoppable cultural force, and it was clear that fans would keep buying thebooks no matter what, it started to expand. The last four volumes of the series are all doorstoppers that clock in at well over 700 pages each.

    Publishers and childrens writers took notice. Booklist found that middle-grade novels expanded 115.5 percent between 2006 and 2016, the decade in which the Potter novels were at their longest.
