Im not proud of this, but I used to be absolutely terrified of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Or, rather, I couldnt deal with the books 2002 film adaptation. On the page, set-pieces like the spider attack and the basilisk fight werent particularly tough to swallow. But on the big screen, they played out like scenes straight out of horror movies, which was too much for my nine-year-old constitution to handle. Heck, I still dont do well with anything remotely resembling the horror genre.
This anecdote is important to note because to me, Harry Potter have always trafficked in horror as much as fantasy and teenage angst. Its low-key one of the most mature young-adult works of fiction out there, and probably primed a generation of readers and viewers to embrace action-horror sequences as the new normal of the fantasy genre.
With that in mind, how the heck did Harry Potter become more closely associated with Christmas than Halloween? Was it because J.K. Rowling always made a point to note all the ugly sweaters the Weasleys got for Christmas? Did it have something to do with how cool Hogsmeade looked covered in snow?
Actually, the answer is probably that Freeform used to air Harry Potter movie marathons around Christmastime, a tradition it had to end this year because of rights issues.

All Harry Potter Movies Will Stream On Peacock In Fall 2020
The Harry Potter movies are on the move. You can currently watch all eight on HBO Max, but that wont be the case for long. Theyre heading to Peacock in the fall.
All eight Harry Potter movies were quickly made available on HBO Max when the streamer was first released. It made a lot of sense. The Warner Bros. movies were heading to the WarnerMedia streaming site. However, that isnt lasting, as the movies are leaving HBO Max at the end of this month.
Theres going to be a small time period where you cant stream them, but eventually, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone and its seven follow-on movies will all head to Peacock in the fall.
Harry Potter Marathon On Syfy
The SyFy network has planned a Harry Potter movie marathon to take place all week , including an all-day Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone marathon on Saturday, Nov. 16, its official anniversary.

Harry Potter Weekends have disapparated from Freeform. The network lost the rights to the Warner Bros. movies earlier this month, but never fear, Potterheads. Harry, Hermione and Ron have a new home on U.S. television.
NBC Universal nabbed the rights to the Harry Potter films as well as the Fantastic Beasts franchise, so the magical movies will air on NBC-owned channels. The first Harry Potter Wizarding Weekend marathon will be hosted on both Syfy and USA Network simultaneously.
The marathon kicks off Friday at 8 p.m. EDT with Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. USA and Syfy will air directors cuts of the first six films this weekend, and fans will be able to watch all eight films with limited commercial interruption. Below is the schedule for the marathon, which gives viewers a chance to watch most of the films twice.

Harry Potter fans, get ready for a movie marathon as ITV2 are showing the magical films across the entire Easter weekend.
Whats better than a four day weekend? Harry Potter films being shown back-to-back on TV thats what.
Thats right, the first five films of the hit wizarding series are on TV from Good Friday to Easter Sunday.
If youre not a fan already, now is the best time to sit down and get into the ultimate series, starring Denial Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton and Alan Rickman.
The films will start to be shown on ITV2 on Good Friday afternoon, and will run until Easter Sunday evening.

The Harry Potter series becomes considerably more sophisticated as it progresses, grappling with serious issues like death and bigotry. Rowling has been open about the fact that much of the darkness is autobiographical. She told Oprah Winfrey that, though she did not realize it when she began writing the series, making Harry an orphan, along with his subsequent experiences with death, was her way of dealing with the death of her mother, who died of multiple sclerosis when Rowling was 20: If she hadnt died, I dont think its too strong to say that there wouldnt be Harry Potter. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament Of Houses

Helen McCrory, the British actress known for playing Draco Malfoy’s mother, Narcissa, in theHarry Potter films, has passed away at the age of 52 following a battle with cancer. The unfortunate news was confirmed on Twitter by McCrory’s husband of the last 14 years: Billions actor Damian Lewis.
“I’m heartbroken to announced that after an heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family,” Lewis wrote. “She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God, we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you.”
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our beloved Helen McCrory, who played Narcissa Malfoy with such depth and brilliance in the Harry Potter film series,” wrote the Wizarding World Facebook page. “She was a wonderful actor, a very dear friend, and will be deeply missed.”
Born in London, England in August of 1968, McCrory made her onscreen debut in the late 1990s with the U.K. sitcom, Full Stretch. Throughout her 23-year career, she appeared in television, film, and theater projects, which nabbed her accolades from the London Film Critics Circle, Broadcasting Press Guild Awards, Critics Circle Theater Awards, Glamour Awards, Satellite Awards, Critics Choice Television Awards, and Shakespeare Globe Awards.
