When Was The Last Harry Potter Book Released

Don't Miss

How The Timeline Differs Between The Harry Potter Books And Movies

July 21, 2007: Final ‘Harry Potter’ Book Released #TBT

The Wizarding World that author J. K. Rowling created for the Harry Potter series is ever-expanding. Subsequent works to the original series like the Fantastic Beasts franchise and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child; fill out the world, exploring different time periods and locations where different generations of wizards existed.

But some newcomers to Harry Potter might wonder why the original Harry Potter books are set in one decade and the film franchise is set in another.

According to her website, Rowling came up with the idea for the book series in 1990 while sitting on a delayed train. She set the date for the books to match up with when she began writing them, which wound up being the same year as when the book series began, 1991. It wasn’t clear at the time if or when the book would actually be published so she used her present time period.

If you’ve read the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, you’ll notice it takes place in 1991. Harry was born in 1980, making him 11 when he starts his first year at Hogwarts. But that book was released in June 1997 and its United States version, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was released in 1998. Confused yet? Well, Rowling herself confirmed in a tweet;that 2017 was the year Harry and Ginny’s son, Albus Severus, was about to start his first trip to Hogwarts 19 years after Harry left, making 1998 his seventh and final year.

After the new book was announced, Amazon.com reported a surge of traffic occurred on their website. Amazon.com has called the novel “one of the most eagerly awaited books of all time”.

J K Rowling recently wrote the following about her new book: “I’m now writing scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more, I don’t think anyone who has not been in a similar situation can possibly know how this feels: I am alternately elated and overwrought. I both want, and don’t want, to finish this book “

Harry became extremely famous in the Wizarding World as a result. Harry begins his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and learns about magic. Completion Of The Series

In December 2005, Rowling stated on her web site, “2006 will be the year when I write the final book in the Harry Potter series.” Updates then followed in her online diary chronicling the progress of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, with the release date of 21 July 2007. The book itself was finished on 11 January 2007 in the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh, where she scrawled a message on the back of a bust of Hermes. It read: “J. K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room on 11 January 2007.”

Rowling herself has stated that the last chapter of the final book was completed “in something like 1990”. In June 2006, Rowling, on an appearance on the British talk show Richard & Judy, announced that the chapter had been modified as one character “got a reprieve” and two others who previously survived the story had in fact been killed. On 28 March 2007, the cover art for the Bloomsbury Adult and Child versions and the Scholastic version were released.

In September 2012, Rowling mentioned in an interview that she might go back to make a “director’s cut” of two of the existing Harry Potter books.

Was It All In His Head

There’s a popular fan theory that everything that happened to Harry Potter outside of Privet Drive was a mental machination of his young, abused mind, and Deathly Hallows did little to dispel that theory. In fact, while at the heavenly version of King’s Cross Station, Harry asked Dumbledore if it was all in his mind and his headmaster told him that it was, but that didn’t make it any less real.

So, was the entirety of the Harry Potter universe fiction, coming from the imagination of a desperate boy who lived under the stairs and who wished for something more? Very possibly so.

Order Of The Phoenix Illustrated Edition Release Date

The illustrated Harry Potter books were on a yearly cycle until Goblet of Fire, which was published two years after Prisoner of Azkaban. The longer wait between the two books was no surprise, because the fourth book in Rowlings series is drastically longer than POA. A longer book means more illustrations are needed, and Kay simply needed more time.

The fifth book is even longer than Goblet, so we expect the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Illustrated Edition release date will be no earlier than Fall 2021. The end-of-year release timetable for each of the Illustrated Editions published thus far has made it the perfect holiday gift. This means itll arrive around the same time Fantastic Beasts 3 hits theaters.

Thats a long wait, but its absolutely understandable. Creating all of these gorgeous illustrations takes time, and since there will probably only be one set of Illustrated Editions ever created, we understand Kay needs lots of time to create a perfect set of books.

With Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows only slightly shorter than Phoenix, we assume that the remaining two Illustrated Editions will be published in Fall 2023 and Fall 2025 respectively.

Though thereve been many versions of the Harry Potter books published, this is the first time the series has been illustrated in such detail. The books are published in both the U.S. and U.K. under a joint partnership between Scholastic and Bloomsbury.

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child

While not part of the original seven-book series, Cursed Child and the accompanying stage play have become a generally accepted addition to the Harry Potter canon. This 336-page text picks up where the Deathly Hallows epilogue left off, with Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Malfoy sending their unfortunately named kids off to Hogwarts Harrys son Albus and Malfoys son Scorpius serve as our protagonists this time around. Upon arrival at Hogwarts, the boys are both sorted into Slytherin and forge an unlikely friendship, which naturally causes tension between Albus and Harry over the next few years.

After a fight with his father, Albus overhears Cedric Diggorys father Amos asking Harry to use a more powerful version of a Time Turner to go back in time and rescue his son. When Harry refuses, Albus enlists Scorpius to help him save Cedric, with the aid of Diggorys niece Delphi. However, as anyone whos seen Back to the Future can attest, messing with timelines is never a good idea especially in the wizarding world. Things are further complicated by the fact that Delphi is not who she says she is, and may have sinister ulterior motives when it comes to rewriting history.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

Harry, Ron, and Hermione return to Hogwarts for their second year, which proves to be more challenging than the last. The Chamber of Secrets has been opened, leaving students and ghosts petrified by an unleashed monster. A Key Weapon Presented Itself

The Sword of Gryffindor had been an instrumental tool in destroying horcruxes throughout Harry Potter lore. Dumbledore used it to destroy the Gaunt family ring. Harry retrieved it from the frozen lake, after it presented itself to him, and Ron used it to destroy the locket that was causing his buddy so much mental anguish. Despite knowing its powers, Harry offered the sword to Griphook in exchange for him helping them get into Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault at Gringotts, and he made good on his end of the bargain.

Griphook returned to villainy soon after, though, and left Harry and his friends in a lurch, by abandoning them in the vault caverns with no promise to get them out. Hermione, always with a clever idea up her gown sleeve, led the trio to ride a dungeon-bound dragon out of the bank, with Griphook perishing in the fiery skirmish that ensued. The sword then disappeared from his grip, to present itself to a more worthy pair of hands.

Later on, when Hermione and Ron were back at Hogwarts trying to lure Nagini away from Voldemort, to destroy what was one of the final remaining horcruxes, the Sword presented itself to Neville Longbottom by way of the Sorting Hat, so he could slice the snake’s head off and give Voldemort one last crucial blow before he did his ultimate battle with Harry. Unlike other weapons of its ilk, the Sword knew no master, and simply chose whoever was worthiest at the time. And few were more worthy than Neville.

Best Harry Potter Books

Remember When...the Last Harry Potter Book Came Out?

Selecting the best of the Harry Potter books is akin to choosing among star-studded things. Why, every book in the said series is mind-blowing! However, the first three novels are the best, perhaps by virtue of chronological order. Philosophers Stone, which has been discussed previously, is the cream of the crop.

Author J.K. Rowlings vouchsafed the masterpiece Chamber of Secrets to her readers; the book revolves around Harry Potter, unhappy with his hosts, after his encounter with the eccentric creature which delivers a doomy prediction.

In Prisoner of Azkaban, which is a literary dessert, figuratively, the prediction proves to be true after Potter returns to Hogwarts for another school term. A deadly prisoner and escapee is being tracked by prison guards who nourish themselves with others souls. In Potters fools paradise, Hogwarts is seemingly a haven.

Why Does Everyone Hate Harry In Goblet Of Fire

Dumbledore was angry because the script-writers decided to change book canon into an absurd out-of-character outburst by movie-Dumbledore. Ron was angry because he believed Harry had gone behind his back to put his name in the Goblet. Ron was upset that it was always Harry in the spotlight, never him.

Publication And Reception In The United Kingdom

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Midnight Book Release

Bloomsbury accepted the book, paying Rowling a £2,500 advance, and Cunningham sent proof copies to carefully chosen authors, critics and booksellers in order to obtain comments that could be quoted when the book was launched. He was less concerned about the book’s length than about its author’s name, since the title sounded like a boys’ book to him, and he believed boys preferred books by male authors. Rowling therefore adopted the nom de plumeJ.K. Rowling just before publication. In June 1997, Bloomsbury published Philosopher’s Stone with an initial print-run of 500 copies in hardback, three hundred of which were distributed to libraries. Her original name, “Joanne Rowling”, can be found on the copyright page of all British editions until September 1999. The short initial print run was standard for first novels, and Cunningham hoped booksellers would read the book and recommend it to customers. Examples from this initial print run have sold for as much as US$33,460 in a 2007 Heritage Auction.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone won two publishing industry awards given for sales rather than literary merit, the British Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year and the Booksellers’ Association / Bookseller Author of the Year. By March 1999 UK editions had sold just over 300,000 copies, and the story was still the UK’s best-selling title in December 2001. A Braille edition was published in May 1998 by the Scottish Braille Press.

The Harry Potter Films Take Place In The 2000’s

The films, on the other hand, do not take place in the 1990s. While it is not specified in the dialogue of the first film, it can be inferred from the modern haircuts, technology, and a primary school certificate for Dudley Dursley that it takes place in the year 2001.

The books and films take place from 1991-1998 and between 2001-2008, respectively, though it’s easy to get confused, considering the final book was released in 2007 and the final film in 2011.

But there are plenty of debates online;between fans who consider the films to have taken place in the same timeline as the books. One reddit user points out that in the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 graveyard scene,;”Harry’s parents’ headstone still says they died in 1981″ and another said that the movies also take place in ’90s, but it was “laziness”;on the part of the filmmakers to include aspects of modern day.;

It would likely be easier for everyone if we had access to a time-turner.
