The Servant Of The Dark Lord Returns

Voldemort’s Years at Hogwarts (Tom Riddle’s Rise To Power)

By 1994, Voldemort had developed new plans to fully regenerate his body. He had also acquired two followers: Peter Pettigrew and the snake Nagini . With Pettigrews help he made a temporary potion with unicorn blood and Naginis venom to achieve a rudimentary body . However, full regeneration required a potion made from bone from his father , flesh from a servant , and blood from an enemy . Though he could have used the blood of any foe, Voldemort wanted Harry Potter, who had stripped him of power thirteen years before and he believed the lingering protection his mother once gave him would reside in my veins too.

Chapter Thirteen: The Very Secret Diary

Page 1 Page 2

On the way back from visiting Hermione, who is in the hospital wing recovering from her cat-state, Harry and Ron hear Filch yelling at someone, and they round the corner to see a flood of water seeping out of Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom. The boys step inside to look around, and they immediately spy a diary bobbing in the toilet. They examine it and see the name T.M. Riddle written on the first page, but the rest of the pages are blank. Ron recalls the name from his trophy-polishing detention as the boy who was rewarded for special services to the school fifty years ago. Harry feels a strange familiarity to the name, and so he pockets the diary. They show it to Hermione when she is fully cured, and she concludes that Riddle, who was commended fifty years before, must have caught the Heir of Slytherin, who had opened the Chamber of Secrets fifty years before. She tries to make words appear on the pages, but with no success.

The incident with the Valentine’s Day dwarf does then amount to something beside Harry’s humiliation, in that it demonstrates the ink-absorbing property of the very secret diary, inspiring Harry to experiment writing in it. We are also reminded in this incident of Ginny’s long-standing crush on Harry, something that appears in certain occasions but as of yet has not taken its place in the plot.

Asking Professor Slughorn About Horcruxes

Sir, I wondered what you know about about Horcruxes? It’s unclear just how much Riddle knew about Horcruxes when he talked to Professor Slughorn . However, he certainly didn’t know that splitting your soul into seven pieces was the best way to go about it. Thanks, Slughorn.

Riddle is becoming used to getting away with murder, but he’s still acting like the perfect student. Harry even takes notice of it: “…the hesitancy, the casual tone, the careful flattery, none of it overdone.” Roughly a year after this talk with Slughorn, Riddle finally manages to open the Chamber of Secrets and frames Hagrid. Two years after that, he graduates Hogwarts and applies to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts. However, the headmaster at the time, Armando Dippet, denies Riddle the position.

What Did Voldemort Do That Was So Bad

Many witches and wizards joined his cause, as they supported his evil views. Voldemort also used the Imperius Curse on many people as well, forcing them into his ranks. He would also blackmail others, or convince dark creatures that they were being persecuted in order to persuade them into joining his cause.

He Was The Most Powerful Dark Wizard In The World

Tom Riddle

Before Voldemort, the two greatest wizards in the Harry Potter universe were easily Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald.

As a matter of fact, the greatest wizarding battle in history was reportedly one between the good Dumbledore and the dark Grindelwald.

When Voldemort rose to power, he soon surpassed even the power of Grindelwald – who was spending the rest of his life in prison after his capture.

Voldemort has mastered countless Dark Arts spells and is strong enough when casting them to overpower even the most powerful wizards.

For example, he’s even able to control Bartemius Crouch Senior for almost half a year.

He also cursed all of the Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers at Hogwarts after he was rejected the job, which involved a spell so powerful that not even Dumbledore could lift it.

Nagini Is Loyal To Voldemort Because He Can Speak With Snakes

As a Maledictus, there probably isn’t much time after the events in The Crimes of Grindelwald before Nagini falls to her blood curse, becoming a snake forever. The Crimes of Grindelwald ends with Nagini at Hogwarts, so it wouldn’t be far-fetched to assume that she stays there and perhaps crosses paths with Tom Riddle when he’s a student at the school from 1938 to 1945. Voldemort’s ability to speak Parseltongue may then be the reason she befriends him, since being trapped in snake form would isolate her from communicating with other people. Perhaps she even helps him open the Chamber of Secrets and summon the basilisk.

He Couldn’t Control Harry Potter Mentally

While Voldemort could invade the minds of others, implant memories, and control them, he was unable to do so with Harry Potter after a few first attempts.

It actually worked at first when he began to control Harry, but the Boy Who Lived was protected by his parents and the spell that Lily cast on him.

This is because Harry possessed the one thing that Voldemort could never understand: love.

Since Voldemort was born to a mother who used a love spell on his father, he ended up incapable of understanding and feeling any sort of love. If his mother had lived, he might have found redemption.

However, because she passed away, Voldemort never had the ability to comprehend love, instead he was repulsed at the thought of it.

As long as Harry remembered the love of his family and friends, though, Voldemort could not control Harry due to the pain that love caused him when he sensed it.

Is there at all a human being who would say that Lord Voldemort is a good or perhaps nice character? The answer is Yes because there are people who love evil whether they do it themselves or just watch others do it and enjoy it endlessly.

He Assembled The First Death Eaters At A Young Age

Tom Riddle/Voldemort- Animal I Have Become

In many ways, the various Death Eaters were one of the darkest things of the Harry Potter series. While Voldemort himself was powerful and frightening, his legion of followers was proof of how attractive his terrible ideas were.

Furthermore, the Death Eater masks hid their identities , forcing wizards to always live in fear that someone close to them could be reporting to Voldemort. These were prominent people in the wizarding world , but they had humble beginnings as Tom Riddle’s friends.

While he was at Hogwarts, Tom Riddle assembled a group of Slytherin bullies as his friends and allies. While Tom wasn’t truly anyone’s friend , becoming the leader of these thugs increased his power and influence. It also allowed young Tom to manipulate certain events without being connected to them himself, as this would ruin his model student image.

Years later, when Tom formed the first Death Eaters, many were from this same group, hungry to use their increased power and prominence to overthrow the Ministry of Magic and assume total control.

Why Did Tom Riddle Change His Name To Voldemort

Why did Tom Riddle change his name to Voldemort? What was the point of Lord Voldemort, specifically, not Lord Tom or, Lord Riddle? Tom Riddle was his officially documented name, after all…

Voldemort despised his Muggle father, who was also named Tom Riddle for 1) being a Muggle, something Tom Riddle Sr. couldn’t help, and 2) for leaving his mother Merope Gaunt while she was still pregnant with Tom Riddle. I interpret canon to mean Tom Riddle took on the moniker “Voldemort” mainly to distance himself from the name Tom Riddle and his Muggle side of the family. He also wanted a name that wizards and witches the world around would fear to hear or speak. “I am Lord Voldemort” from Chamber of Secrets is an anagram for Tom Marvolo Riddle.

You think I was going to use my filthy Muggle fathers name for ever? I, in whose veins runs the blood of Salazar Slytherin himself, through my mothers side? I, keep the name of a foul, common Muggle, who abandoned me even before I was born, just because he found out his wife was a witch? No, Harry. I fashioned myself a new name, a name I knew wizards everywhere would one day fear to speak, when I had become the greatest sorcerer in the world!Chamber of Secrets – page 231 – UK Hardcover – chapter 17, The Heir of Slytherin

Dumbledore: – ask for Tom the barman, easy enough for you to remember as you share the same name You dislike the name ‘Tom’ ?’Riddle: – There are alot of toms,’ muttered riddle

How Did Harry Find Tom Riddle’s Diary

4.3/5diarydiaryHarryHarryVoldemortTom Riddleanswer here

Short Answer – Lucius Malfoy slipped it in her Cauldron at Flourish and Blotts when they went to Diagon Alley to buy School Supplies. Tom Riddle after making his Diary into a Horcrux gave it to Lucius Malfoy . Some time during the First Wizarding War, Lord Voldemort entrusted the diary to Death Eater, Lucius Malfoy.

Additionally, how did Harry know to destroy the diary? That’s when Fawkes brought the diary to him, and all he could do – besides perhaps ripping some pages from it – was to stab it with the nearest sharp object. That would be the basilisk fang which he pulled out of his arm moments earlier.

Keeping this in view, who took Tom Riddle’s diary from Harry?

How did Dumbledore get Tom Riddle’s diary back?

The books and films differ in this matter. In the book, Harry shows Dumbledore the diary after he leaves the Chamber of Secrets. Harry then gives the diary to Lucius Malfoy . Voldemort later learns of the fate of the diary, but it is not clear whether Lucius kept it to return to Voldemort or not.

He Was A Kleptomaniac

When it comes to Tom Riddle’s antisocial tendencies, we tend to focus on the bigger ones. For instance, all of the manipulation, torture, and murder. However, he had a weird habit that developed early in life, and one that Dumbledore called him out on: he was a thief and a kleptomaniac!

Tom Riddle was raised in an orphanage, and unfortunately, this was where he had to spend his summers when he was away from Hogwarts. One of the things he liked to do in his earlier orphanage years was to steal things from other orphans and then hide them in his cupboard.

When Dumbledore first came to visit Tom, he made him return everything to the orphans and warned Tom that stealing was not tolerated at Hogwarts. Tom learned to be more sneaky, but he never really stopped his thieving ways. He stole the Gaunt family insignia, and he would later kill Hepzibah Smith to steal both the Slytherin Locket and Hufflepuff Cup that he coveted.

How Did Tom Riddle Turn Into Voldemort

When Tom Riddle, in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, flicked his wand and rearranged the letters of his name to form “I AM LORD VOLDEMORT,” most of us sat down to tally the letters. This, however, is not the only name in Harry Potter with hidden meanings in its anagram.

Anagrams play a huge role in JK Rowling’s widely acclaimed book series. They are present not only in names of characters but also in certain important quotes and other information in the books. Potterheads all over the world had analysed and cracked several of these anagrams to reveal possible conclusions of the series even before the final book ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ was published.

The Dark And Twisted Timeline Of Lord Voldemort

The main antagonist of the Harry Potter series is Lord Voldemort, who is far from a generic villain. The character was given his own fleshed-out background that made fans see him as Tom Riddle, the identity he had been born with, along with the circumstances of his birth and why Voldemort became the fiend he ultimately was. Having been the son of muggle Tom Riddle Sr. and witch Merope Gaunt, who had tricked the former into marrying her through the use of a love potion, Voldemorts future was always destined to take a dark turn.

To truly understand the character, though, its best to take a trip through his entire timeline to see where he started, how he rose to power, and the way is eventual defeat came about.

A Handsome Father And An Unfortunate Mother

The Story of Lord Voldemort: Tom Riddle Origins Explained (Re-Upload July, 2017)

The man who would become Voldemort came from two vastly different lineages. His father was a patrician heir, born to the wealthy Riddle family of Little Hangleton. An only son, Tom Sr. was, according to his neighbors, quite the snob. He and his parents were accordingly disliked, but that didn’t seem to matter much in the grand scheme of things: they were blue-blooded landowners, and he was widely known as handsome. His tall, dark looks had already netted him a paramour, described only as a young woman named Cecilia, when Voldemort’s mother became besotted with him.

Merope Gaunt, in contrast to the man she had fallen for and the son she would go on to bear, was deeply unattractive. The result of generations of inbreeding, she was a neglected wretch with a lazy eye, a “plain, pale, rather heavy face,” and a cringing, defeated demeanor. Merope had likely lived her entire life under the thumb of her father and brother, slave to the former’s ideals of blood purity and target of the latter’s cruelties. It’s no wonder that she found herself attracted to the beautiful young man who rode past their cottage but the lengths to which she went to put him under her literal spell were shocking. After Tom Sr. emerged from the mind-controlling haze Merope had cast, she fled, gave birth to Tom Riddle Jr., and prayed that he’d look like his father before she passed away.

When Harry Met Tom In The Chamber Of Secrets

If anyone was fooled by Tom Riddle’s “heroics” in the diary scene, they were proven wrong by the end of Chamber of Secrets. But really, who could believe Hagrid would be the bad guy of any story? In the Chamber, Harry learns a neat new anagram spell and also that he’s been pen pals with a homicidal maniac. Tom Riddle may or may not have already created his first Horcrux at this point, but we won’t learn that until Half-Blood Prince. This makes Tom Riddle’s diary the first Horcrux both we and Harry encounter, and of course the first he destroys. There’s also a snake.
