Hamish Playing Harry Potter | Hamish & Andy

Harry Potter is an endlessly fascinating hit franchise. The ever-expanding wizarding world has inspired web hubs, theme parks, and, probably most importantly, movies, even as author J.K. Rowling has become an incredibly problematic figure. When Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone got the big-screen treatment in 2001 with director Chris Columbus, writer Steve Kloves, and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, the story of the boy with the lightning-bolt scar got a second, more potent life by making all of the book’s fantastical magic, hidden worlds, and incredible creatures “real.” Sorcerer’s Stone grossed almost $1 billion worldwide and created a hunger for more Potter experiences, justifying successful adaptations , spinoff prequels about fantastic beasts, and potentially an original TV series.

Maybe years ago, you bought coveted DVD collections, but those might be lost somewhere at your parents’ house. In the age of streaming, you’d probably much rather watch the movies online somewhere when you need a fix. Here’s where you can currently satisfy your Potter craving.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald

Our second adventure in the Fantastic Beasts world sees Johnny Depp move from a fleeting cameo in the first film to a full-blown appearance as dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. Jude Law also stars as Albus Dumbledore. This decidedly gloomy second offering didnt do quite as well as the first, but it did start to explore the complex relationship between the two wizards. We also know Fantastic Beasts 3 is on its way, albeit with some new casting: its now Danish actor Mads Mikkelson who will take on the role of Grindlewald.

Daniel Radcliffe’s Scariest Movie Yet Airs On Tv Tonight

Daniel Radcliffe has taken on some of Hollywood’s strangest roles since he played Harry Potter, from horror to action to surreal dramas and comedies. On Sunday night, a movie that features one of the strangest of those performances airs on TV The Woman in Black. The 2012 oddball horror airs on Flix at 10:35 p.m. ET.

The Woman in Black came out one year after the final Harry Potter movie, at a time when many fans still hadn’t made sense of Radcliffe’s new career moves. The actor himself had already been working to branch out and redefine himself, and this movie helped the general public see that. It is based on a novel of the same name published by Susan Hill in 1983, about a recently widowed lawyer named Arthur Kipps in early-20th century England. He travels to a remote village where he finds a whole town terrorized by “the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman.”

The movie got generally positive reviews immediately after its release, with an extra helping of media attention thanks to Radcliffe’s participation. Rotten Tomatoes currently shows a 67 percent rating among critics but only a 54 percent audience score for the movie. Its critical consensus reads: “Traditional to a fault, The Woman in Black forwent gore for chills although it may not provide enough of them for viewers attuned to modern, high-stakes horror.”

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them

People Will Be Able to Have Christmas Dinner at Hogwarts ...

Warner Bros.

We kick off the list with a film with no appearance from Harry Potter Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set many years before Harry ever sets foot inside Hogwarts. Released in 2016, the first film in the Wizarding World series introduces us to Eddie Redmaynes absurdly likeable Newt Scamander, who travels to New York in pursuit of an escaped Niffler, but has dark forces to contend with along the way.

This was written by JK Rowling herself, who claims shes got an idea for a total of five movies.

Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone

And heres where it all began: now two decades old, the first film in the Harry Potter franchise is a bona fide classic. If its hard to believe this film is now 20, its even hard to see just how little and cute Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint just were. In this first instalment, the 11-year-old Harry discovers hes the child of wizarding parents and sets off on his first fateful train trip from Platform Nine and Three Quarters to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Yes, some of the kids acting is a tiny bit wooden, but tell us you dont get the chills when you hear Hagrids iconic line: Youre a wizard, Harry. Were still patiently waiting for our Hogwarts letter in the post.

Even though the movies are currently streaming on HBO Max, from time to time you can also watch them on NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock. Because of a deal that dates back to 2016 , NBCUniversal has the TV and digital rights to the films until 2025. The movies aren’t available on Peacock right now, but that explains why sometimes you’ll be able to find them there before they’re officially housed on the WarnerMedia service in a few years.

With that in mind, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin alike might agree that a Peacock account could be useful for serious Potter-Heads. The movies might obviously get removed from the platform every once in a while, but a subscription could be handy so you can magically watch them whenever they are available. A Peacock account is totally free, since it’s an ad-supported platform, so you can sign up for what’s called a basic subscription here now. . Often only a handful of Harry Potter movies stream with the basic plan, though, so you may eventually need to opt into the Peacock Premium plan, which is $4.99 per month and still supported by ads.
