The Harry Potter Cast Comes Of Age On Set
When the Harry Potter film series is completed, its three young stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint will have inhabited their roles longer than Sean Connery played James Bond, Christopher Reeve was Superman or Jerry Seinfeld played himself on Seinfeld.
Radcliffe, Watson and Grint have already effectively spent half of their lives in J.K. Rowlings universe. Radcliffe, who is now 19, was 11 when he was cast as the boy wizard for the series 2001 debut. Watson, now 19, was 10 when she auditioned for the whip-smart Hermione Granger. Grint, the eldest of the trio, is 20.
Ive probably been Ron as long as Ive been Rupert, says Grint, who plays Ron Weasley, the ginger-haired, perpetually hungry friend of Harry and Hermione.
The cast and crew have taken a break from filming Rowlings last Potter book to be spread out in two films to publicize the series sixth installment, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince which arrives in theaters Wednesday.
Early reviews of the film the second one directed by David Yates have been positive both Variety and The Associated Press suggested it was the best Potter film yet. The movies have gotten progressively more complex, darker and realistic even amid the fantasy world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
As the films have matured, so has the cast.
Something happened at the age of 14, he says. I started taking it more seriously, which meant I started having more fun.
Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire Real
The activities of Goblet of Fire took place between 1994 and 1995. Filming took place between June 25th, 2004, and a date I cannot recall, but it was a very long film.
We can estimate that post-production took 6 months because that is how long the last one took, so shooting finished in May 2005. On November 6, 2005, it was finally released. This is the first movie in which we see the darker theme. After all, our characters are now in puberty and are showing angst.
The film is the first in the series to be rated PG-13 in the United States and 12A in the United Kingdom. The production began in early 2004. Leavesden Film Studios was used to film the Hogwarts scenes.
Five days after its debut, the film had earned more than US$102 million at the North American box office, making it the third-highest first-weekend haul for a Harry Potter film, behind only Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2.
Goblet of Fire had an enormously profitable box office run, grossing $896 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2005 and the sixth-highest-grossing film in the Harry Potter franchise.
After The Films Wrapped Watson Returned To School And Continued To Act
In 2011, Watson announced that she would be studying at Brown University. She graduated in 2014 with a bachelors in English literature.
While in school, Watson starred in a number of popular films, including My Week With Marilyn , The Perks of Being a Wallflower , and The Bling Ring .
In 2013, Watson also played herself in the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg apocalyptic comedy, This Is the End.
In 2017, the English actress starred as Belle in the Disney live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, and in 2019 she was part of the star-studded cast of Greta Gerwigs Little Women.

Emma Watson’s Harry Potter Character Hermione Influenced Her Perception Of Feminism
Though the Harry Potter series isn’t named the Hermione Granger series, Emma Watson’s character played a defining role as one of the leads in the franchise. She told Scholastic that Hermione is “never afraid to take control of a situation or be the brains behind anything,” adding, “She says what she thinks and doesn’t hold back. In many ways, she bosses the boys around, which I think is kind of cool. I think they need her. That’s girl power.” Because of this, Watson’s passion for feminism started at an early age.
Through her experience working in a male-dominated field, Watson became a UN Women’s goodwill ambassador advocating for women’s rights. In 2014, she received global praise for her speech at an event for the HeForShe campaign. The goal of the initiative was to encourage males to support their female counterparts.
She told Paper in 2016, “My understanding that has allowed me to feel so much more accepting and loving of myself as a woman it came through reading.”
How Old Is Harry Potter
In Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone Harry Potter was eleven years old. When we say this it also applies to his school colleagues from his year, since most of the first years are eleven when they start school.
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, he and his friends are twelve. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, they are thirteen, in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire fourteen, in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix fifteen, in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince sixteen, and finally, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, they are seventeen years old.
Most fans know that Harry Potter and J. Rolling have the same birthday and that the famous date is July 31, but the author has also revealed the birthdays of many other characters over the years. Lord Voldemort made his first attempt to disprove the prophecy when Harry was one year and three months old.
In this attempt, he kills Harrys parents while Harrys parents are trying to defend him, and this attempt to kill Harry resulted in Voldemorts first Horcrux that was the accidental one.
This event marked the end of the First Wizarding War, and Harry became known as the The boy who lived because he was the only survivor of this deadly curse. On his 11th birthday, Harry finds out he is a wizard because Rubeus Hagrid appears with a birthday cake and tells him about his family. This is one of our favorite scenes!

Playing Hermione Granger In ‘harry Potter’
Watson had never acted professionally when her theater teachers suggested her to agents looking to cast an upcoming movie based on the first novel of the best-selling Harry Potter series. A 9-year-old Watson auditioned eight times for the role that would make her an international star. Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who was deeply involved in the film process to make sure it stayed true to the book, wanted Watson involved in the project.
Watson sufficiently impressed casting agents and the film’s producers, and won the role of Hermione Granger, Harry Potter’s smart, bossy best friend and voice of reason. Harry Potter was portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint was cast as Ron Weasley, Harry’s other best friend. The trio of British child actors would become known around the globe for their roles as young wizards fighting a battle between good and evil, beginning with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in November 2001.
Watson’s film debut was an enormous success: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone earned a record-breaking $33.3 million on its opening day in the United States, en route to grossing $975 million worldwide. It was nominated for three Academy Awards and seven BAFTA Awards, with Watson receiving critical praise to cement her status as an up-and-coming star.
LONDON, ENGLAND – JULY 07: Actress Emma Watson attends the ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2’ world premiere at Trafalgar Square on July 7, 2011 in London, England.
Emma Watson Faced Sexualization From An Early Age
Despite her level of celebrity, Watson has opted for a life these days fairly out of the public eye. After pulling a Hermione and becoming the only one of the trio to go to college , she now chooses her acting roles and public appearances carefully, and the rare occasions when she speaks out are usually to bring attention to a cause.
In 2014, the actress spoke before the U.N. to bring attention to HeForShe, a campaign that called on men to help end gender inequality. During the speech, Watson opened up about being sexualized by media as early as 14.
Life after ‘Harry Potter’:Daniel Radcliffe is not having it with Hollywood’s sex-symbol double standard
When Watson wrapped up filming the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” movies and unveiled a pixie cut a major pivot from the long, curly Hermione locks fans had come to expect it came as a shock.
Not only was the change in appearance on-par for a young woman her age , but Gillen perceives the move as Watson’s response to years of heavy scrutiny and unwanted attention paid to her appearance.
It’s a way of saying, ‘You’ve sexualized me and I’m just going to do what I want, if this is what I feel like at this moment, Gillen says. It’s kind of like pushback to that sexualization and an affirmation of her own identity. It’s something that for women can really help assert themselves and maybe gain back some of that power that they felt was lost in that kind of situation.

The Transformation Of Emma Watson From 9 To 30 Years Old
There is often a distinct turning point in the lives of celebrities, a moment in which they realize life will never be the same. For Emma Watson, it was being cast in the role of Hermione Granger in the first Harry Potter movie. She was plucked from obscurity as a nine-year-old girl with no acting experience and thrust into the spotlight. While some child stars go astray on the path of fame and fortune, Watson did it with grace remaining as grounded and sharp as the character she portrays in the Harry Potter films.
Watson’s style evolution through the years has revealed one thing for certain: she loves fashion! Perhaps her early formative years in Paris contributed to the fashion sense that has made Watson a style icon? Thankfully, the Watson family moved her to Oxfordshire, England from Paris when she was five. Otherwise, the world might have been delivered a different Hermione Granger, and that would have been a travesty of epic proportions.
Watson’s coming-of-age story is one of a serious, scholarly girl becoming a serious, scholarly woman who uses her fame for the greater good. Let’s look at her transformation from the tender age of nine to the fabulous age of thirty!
Emma Watson Wore Black In Solidarity With Time’s Up
Emma Watson was one of the many women who wore black to the 75th Annual Golden Globes in 2018 in solidarity with the Time’s Up movement. Many of the women attending also brought activists as their dates in an effort to highlight the work being done for gender and racial equality. Watson was accompanied by U.K. activist Marai Larasi, founder of Imkaan, an organization dedicated to addressing violence against women and girls of color.
After revealing she has experienced her share of sexual harassment in the film industry, Watson told Variety on the red carpet, “What is amazing is that my experiences are not unique, the experiences of my friends are not unique, the experiences of my colleagues are not unique. This issue is so systemic, structural.” Watson added to E! at the time, “There’s something about in women in Hollywood speaking out. There is a wall of silence around violence against women and girls and every time somebody speaks out, it just creates a bit of a crack in that wall.”
Keep on keeping on, ladies!

Emma Watson’s Awkward Years Were Spent Starring In Harry Potter Movies
At a time when many are just trying to get through high school and deciding what to wear to prom, Watson was spending hours on set. She told The Telegraph, “Sometimes I miss the fact that I have never really been a teenager because I have been Hermione for such a long time.” When asked about growing up in front of the world, she admitted to the Mirror, “It’s embarrassing to see myself go through the awkward stages of growing up my hair was just enormous!”
Before the premiere of the final Harry Potter film, Watson told the Mirror, “I have spent more of my life being someone else than I have being myself.” The conclusion of the series meant it was time for Watson to focus on herself. Though it seemed as if she was at the height of her career following the films’ massive success, her incredible acting career was just getting started.

Rupert Grint’s Quiet Retreat And Return
Grint disappeared from public view for a while after “Potter.” He appeared in a selection of English indie films and TV shows, but nothing that has reached the acclaim of his Ron Weasley days.
He has stayed largely out of sight, until he dipped a toe back in a year ago, to share the first photo of his newborn baby with girlfriend Georgia Groome .
Given the intense magnifying lens on the “Potter” actors in the franchise’s prime, experts say it’s no surprise that all three actors remain cautious about the image of themselves put out into the world. But their occasional re-entries into the public eye serve as comforting reminders to fans of a beloved collection of films that their childhood idols turned out all right.
“I think all appreciate the cultural impact the films have had and the unique opportunity its laid out for each them to craft careers they want to have,” Sartore-Bodo says. “I dont think youll ever hear them knock the films or the characters they played. They seem very proud to be known as Harry, Hermione and Ron. These characters define their screen career, and theyre OK with that.”
How The ‘harry Potter’ Kids Were Protected From ‘this Whole Star Thing’
Director Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two Potter films, saw firsthand how fame could hurt young actors: His directing credits included Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire, which catapulted Macaulay Culkin and into the spotlight.
Both have since detailed their struggles with childhood fame, and Columbus would learn he needed to prioritize protecting the kids in his films from what he dubbed an “onslaught of publicity.”

“We’re just working, it’s just a movie,” Columbus told USA TODAY in 2001 of his advice to the young “Potter” actors. “I try to instill that in the kids. I tell them: ‘No weekend at Michael Jackson’s house. None of that stuff. Do not go. That happened to Macaulay. Don’t become seduced by this whole star thing. It’s empty.’ “
Filming in England provided an additional barrier to getting swept up in the rush of Hollywood.
“I originally didn’t want the kids to go to America and do Letterman and Leno and all that stuff,” Columbus noted at the time. “I thought they’d be much more grounded if they stayed here and did this press and went on to their next movie. The good news is, they’ll go do that and then come right back. It’ll be back to the world of work, and we’ll be back to the way it was, and we’ll all be surrounding each other.”

Emma Watson’s Experience In The Harry Potter Series Made Her Appreciate Privacy
Growing up in the spotlight made Emma Watson feel like her life was on display, which is why she decided to remain private with her personal life. She told The Telegraph, “The thought of all this publicity chills me to the bone. I hate seeing my name on the front of a magazine.”
More than that, Watson defends the idea of keeping a personal life due to her responsibility as an actor. The Harry Potter star believes that knowing too much about her will affect how viewers feel toward her on-screen characters. Watson told Interview, “When I step into a character, people have to be able to suspend their disbelief they have to be able to divorce me from that girl. And not having everyone know every single intimate detail of my entire life is part of me trying to protect my ability to do my job well.”
Unfortunately, privacy is becoming more of a challenging feat with social media. This idea of privacy eventually led her to star in The Circle, a film that follows a woman broadcasting every moment of her life online.
