Look For The Secret Interactive Wand Spell Locations

Interactive wands hands-on in Diagon Alley & Hogsmeade at Universal Orlando

The secret spell locations are different from the regular spots, in that there is no medallion on the floor to show you where they are. There is also not a specific spell or movement needed to make the magic happen.

We were able to locate all three of the secret spells, by asking some helpful witches and wizards we found at the regular spell-casting spots. Of course, our kids were more than eager to share the information with other kids they met along the way!

The kids making the invisible ink appear on the parchment. This Secret Spell is located at Scrubbulus Ink Shop in Diagon Alley.

In the right-hand window, on the left side, there is what looks to be a bird bath containing small flowers. Wave your wand and a large flower will bloom in the center.

In the right-hand window, right side, theres a display of dragon dung. Wave your wand and the lid will levitate, and youll smell the not-so-sweet scent of this fertilizer used in Herbology class.

Choosing Your Own Wizarding World Wand At Ollivanders

Sure, purchasing your own wand flies in the face of that whole “wand chooses the wizard” thing. While it’s certainly weird to slap down our cash for a wand without ceremony, it’s really fun to pick out your own.

As you exit the show or wander inside from the side entrance or through Wiseacres Wizarding Equipment you’ll be able to peruse the shelves of wands. There’s a section of the character ones, and one for the non-character wands. The Ollivanders non-character wands have an O on the label . The character interactive wands have a gold label, and the character non-interactive wands have a white label.

How Do 2022 Harry Potter Interactive Wands Work

The Universal wand is a passive device, meaning there are no electronics inside. Instead, the wand reflects light back to a sensor that tracks the movement of the Universal wand. When a correct spell movement is detected, the system activates the display. In summary, youve got wizard powers. Below are the steps to use your new Harry Potter World Wand!

How Do The Harry Potter Wands At Universal Work

They have designed this whole system to be really fun for people, and quite honestly, its just as much fun to find one of the spots and watch other people come up and use their wands, too. There are Wizarding World characters who are readily available for some assistance or guidance with spellcasting- sometimes they are a little temperamental and everyone seems ready and willing to help .

What happens is, there are cameras at each designated spot that create a reaction when the wand is pointed there in the correct manner. You are given a map that shows you most of the spots, but they are also marked on the ground by these really awesome bronze type coins or medallions. Each one actually tells you the spell name to use and also has a point on it to direct you the right way to face. Every one of them is different, so they are really cool to see.

Now, the map itself is has some tips on it that you cant see in regular lighting either, you have to take it under a black light to see them. If you visit Knockturn Alley, you can find a black light there. There are some other spots for the spells that are not on the map, so if you truly want to know all the dirt before you go, there are websites with spoilers you can easily find.

Pick Up Souvenirs For Friends Back Home

Harry Potter Interactive Wands at Universal

Since your friends and family will be SUPER jealous that you got to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, it might be nice to pick up a gift or two to take back home to them.

Luckily, Hogsmeade has some fantastic gift options. Dervish and Banges has all manner of magical items such as Sneakoscopes and Omnioculars, as well as Quidditch supplies, Hogwarts House themed clothing, and much more. While you could buy something from here, I would suggest that the best souvenirs are going to come from Honeydukes.

The amazing sweet shop has every sugary treat that you read about in the books: Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, Cauldron Cakes, Exploding Bonbons, Cockroach Clusters, Acid Pops, and of course, Chocolate Frogs.

The Chocolate Frogs even come with trading cards, although sadly the pictures do not move. A word of caution: the Chocolate Frogs do not last long in the Florida heat, so buy them at the end of your day!

Where Can I Use The Interactive Wand

You can find several places to use your interactive wands in both Universal Studios, and in Islands of Adventure. There are 11 magical locations in Diagon Alley, 5 in Knockturn Alley and 9 in Hogsmeade. Each location is activated by a different wand movement, which is notated on the map and on the medallion.

Pro Tip: Interactive wands purchased in Orlando, can also be used at other Wizarding World of Harry Potter parks, including Universal Hollywood and Universal Japan!

How To Use Interactive Wizarding World Wands

Congrats! You were selected in the Ollivander’s show OR you talked your frog family into buying your very own wand. Now the fun begins!

Your interactive wand comes with a map that shows the locations and spells around Hogsmeade. Wander around the village, and you’ll find gold markers on the ground in front of shop windows that show you where to stand. Following the ground markers is way less cumbersome than following the map. Plus a few spells do not even appear on the map!

Here’s how spell casting works: Make your way over to a marker our favorite one is by Dominic Maestro’s. Stand on the marker and look at the motion that’s indicated on it. Point your wand at the window and say the spell “Ventus” and wave your wand. If you do it correctly, some magic will happen. This particular one sets off instruments and flying sheets of music.

How To Cast Spells

To cast a spell, all you have to do is look down at the pavement at your desired location and find a medallion. All the interactive spell spots will be marked with these, so you know where to stand when it comes time to cast your spell. Furthermore, these medallions will let you know which way to point your wand and what spell you need to cast. However, keep in mind that you dont have to say these spells perfectly in fact, since theyre all sensor-based, theyre not necessarily required, so saying them is completely up to you and your party. Silent spells are just as magical! Plus, theyre only reserved for the most talented wizards, after all.

The sensors at these locations are rather small, so its recommended that you limit your movement when casting a spell. Try to only use your wrist when you flick your wand.

If you need help casting a spell, most locations have an employee standing by to assist you with proper gestures. If a spell location isnt working, an anti-jinx sign will be placed in the window, or a team member may be standing by to let you know that spells at this location are down.

Where Do I Purchase An Interactive Wizarding Wand

For the full, detailed experience, the best shop to purchase a wand is, of course, Ollivanders in Diagon Alley, makers of fine wands since 382 BC. Named after the family of its esteemed owner, Garrick Ollivander, Harry was brought here by Rubeus Hagrid to undergo that rite of passage in the wizarding world .

However, wand-shoppers at Universal Orlando Resort do have more options, including the Ollivanders branch at Hogsmeade , or at Wands by Gregorovitch in the Carkitt Market section of Diagon Alley, an alternative wand shop formerly helmed by the longtime competitor to Ollivanders. Wands can also be bought at the main Universal gift shops at the front of each park and at CityWalk, or online at Universals official merchandise store.

Also, please note that each interactive wand comes in an Ollivanders box with a dual-sided map of spell locations around Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.

Fun With Wizarding World Wands In Orlando

Are you planning a trip to the Universal Orlando Resort? Pack. That. Wand! The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is split between two parks. You’ll find Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, while Universal Studios Florida is home to Diagon Alley. How to get between the parks? THE HOGWARTS EXPRESS YO!

Both areas are full of interactive elements for plenty of wizarding world wand fun. One of our favorite ones is deep inside Knockturn Alley in Diagon Alley. Over at Hogsmeade, we’re fans of Revelio outside of Honeyduke’s. Your wand will work at all of the spots. I purchased my wand in Hollywood, then took it with me to Orlando. It’s really fun to explore familiar spells in Hogsmeade, but the ones in Diagon Alley are even more enchanting. You’ll see young and old frogs alike having fun with their wands.

How I Spent One Day At Harry Potter In Universal & What I Would Do Differently Next Time

So the first thing you need to know is that all things Harry Potter are NOT in one place. There are two parks in Universal: Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios . The Hogwarts Express connects the two parks from one Harry Potter land to the next without ever breaking character.

When you arrive GET A MAP. Its so important to make sure you see and do everything you want. I really wouldnt wing it if you have certain things you dont want to miss.

Arrive Early.

Get Express Line Passes.

These two things are the most key things there are. Basically, you can buy express passes to cut in line. I had them for free because I was a guest of the park so that I could blog about it. Express passes are NOT USABLE on a few things, most of which are Harry Potter: Hogwarts Express, Escape from Gringotts , and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey .

So, what I did was get there right when things opened and go to Universal Studios side first. I went straight to the Escape from Gringotts and only waited about 10 minutes.

What I would do differently is instead of enjoying Diagon Alley now, I would have jumped right on the Hogwarts Express and rode over to Hogmeade and rode the Fobidden Journey. When I got there later, the line was an hour long and it was 100 degrees. I was riding alone .

Islands Of Adventure Favorites:

I really liked Suess Landing the best. Its sort of for kids but a really cool wonderland and fun to walk through, although the ride there is just for kids I think.

I was pretty tired of rides, really, but enjoyed exploring in The Lost Continent and Jurassic Park a lot!

Theres also Skull Island, Toon Lagoon, and all the Super Hero stuff. There are rides for all kinds of things, like E.T. but I couldnt even find E.T on my map let alone in the park.

This park is bigger and more crowded that Universal Studios. Thats part of why I would have done things differently: Universal Studios first just to ride Gringotts, then take Hogwarts Express to Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure, explore this park, then go BACK to Universal Studios!

Can You Take Harry Potter Wands On A Plane

How to use your $50 Harry Potter Intercative Wand in Universal Studios | Part 1 Hogsmeade 2019

There should definitely be no issues with bringing the wand with you on the plane. You may place it in your check-in luggage, but the item is very small. As a result, there shouldnt be any issues in taking it with your carry-on.

Just dont go casting any forgetting spells on the personnel or try to act funny. Remember, these wands only work at Universal Studios, so you wont be able to Obliviate them. Muggles dont have the same sense of humor when it comes to magic, so you might just have them confiscated.

Plus, look at the bright side. If a plane is close to crashing, you can use Wingardium Leviosa to make the plane levitate, or Arresto Momentum to slow the fall. Youll be a hero and the Muggles wont even know! Although, lets hope theres no need for that!

How To Get To Universal Studios In Orlando

The best way to start, is how are you planning to get to Orlando? If you are coming from a distance, the best way to get to Universal Studios, is by flying into Orlando International Airport. From there, you can take a cab, ride-share, or bus to your hotel.

We decided to catch a cab at the airport. It really wasnt too difficult. They even give you a flat-rate fare to all the park-owned resorts, so at least there were no surprises.

Universal hotels also offer a shuttle to and from the airport, but they are not included in your stay, and are actually more expensive than a cab.

If you are staying at a Universal Resort, they offer free transportation between the resorts and the parks. That means no worries about parking or traffic!
