Harry does this while he’s invisible and with Griphook the Goblin whispering in his ear. Griphook ends up betraying Harry, Ron and Hermione, attempting to flee and leaving them to the mercy of the Death Eaters. However, he lives to regret this when Voldemort catches up to him. The Dark Lord ruthlessly cuts down all who failed him and Griphook’s body is visible in the aftermath of his murderous rampage.

Forced To Try And Kill Dumbledore

Draco Malfoy wasn’t always pleasant, in fact, he could be quite intolerable at times. But that doesn’t change the fact he was no killer.

In a way, Draco respected Dumbledore and he liked studying at Hogwarts. So he didn’t want to kill Dumbledore. Unfortunately, Voldemort didn’t give him another option and he treated Draco like a pawn, fit only to do his bidding… or be punished.

Ron Weasley On Bogrod

While on the subject of Bogrod, it’s only fitting to talk about Ron Weasley’s own use of the Imperius Curse. When he, Harry, and Hermione pass under an enchanted waterfall the effects of the Polyjuice wear off, and the trio is exposed for who they truly are.

Bogrod notices this almost immediately, with the enchantment also undoing the Imperius Curse Harry had placed on him. Ron thinks quickly and is able to put him back under a spell. But the goblin ends up being killed by the dragon guarding the vaults – meaning Ron has blood on his hands.

Draco Malfoy Actor Tom Felton Made A Documentary About Harry Potter Fans

Feltons proximity to Harry Potter fandom gave him a unique perspective when he set out to make a documentary about Harry Potter fans.

Were not just talking about the fact that he was in the Harry Potter films, although that does help to an extent. His 2015 BBC documentary looks into the lives of the fans who wait in line to meet him and other actors at conventions, and how the books and films have affected them, which opened his eyes to their experiences along the way.

It was a massive insight for me, going behind the ropes and seeing what people actually do to stand behind a railing at an event, Felton told JustJared in 2015. You dont really think about the three hours it took them to stand there and get the best spot.

Although some initially feared that Feltons documentary would misunderstand or mock its subjects , it was well-received by critics, helped in part by Feltons willingness to look deeper.

He Couldn’t Befriend Harry

With all, that’s happened since it’s easy to forget that Draco didn’t always hate Harry. In fact, he wanted to be his friend when they first met at Hogwarts.

Unfortunately, Draco acted out his worst tendencies and he sneered at Ron which made Harry reject him. A shame since these two could have actually been good friends if only Draco had considered his actions more closely.

The Cruciatus Curse Causes Unbearable Pain To Its Target

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Walkthrough – Part #43 – Sectumsempra

The second unforgivable, the Cruciatus, is a known favorite of the Death Eaters. Bellatrix Lestrange is shown using it on Hermione Granger, and Voldemort employs it numerous times in his battles against Harry. It causes unbearable pain to the target. The agony is so horrifying that, if the curse keeps being cast for more than a few minutes, its victims become catatonic. This was the fate of Frank and Alice Longbottom, who are targeted by the Lestranges and Barty Crouch Jr. after Voldemort’s first fall.

Harry uses the curse on more than one occasion. The first two attempts on Bellatrix Lestrange and Severus Snape are failures. He is finally successful on the third try, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. He casts the spell on Dark Wizard Amycus Carrow, when the Death Eater demands entry to Ravenclaw Tower and spits in Professor McGonagall‘s face.

As Its Creator Can Snape Reverse Sectumsempra

In The Half-Blood Prince, when Harry used the spell Sectumsempra on Malfoy, was Snape able to reverse the effects of the curse because he was the one who created it?

  • 7As the creator can Smith and/or Wesson revert a gunshot wound? Snape was skilled in dark magic and knew the construction of the spell, that gave him the knowledge which allowed him to treat the wound . It was only tangentially related to the fact that he created the spell.Dec 19 19 at 23:50

That Infamous Deathly Hallows Moment Wasnt Planned

Chances are you know exactly what that means but well set the scene up for you anyway.

Toward the end of Deathly Hallows Part 2, Voldemort returns the grounds of Hogwarts to reveal to everyone that he killed Harry while Harry, unbeknownst to Voldemort, survived the attack. Having been separated prior, Dracos mom Narcissa called for Draco to come over to herand to the side of the Death Eaters. When he did, Voldemort gave him a very uncomfortable but highly memorable hug.

A couple months after Part 2s release, Felton addressed the hug at DragonCon. According to his recollection, he and Ralph Fiennes filmed around 25 takes of that scene. Out of all of those takes, only one included the hug it was a one-off thing Fiennes did. And as strange as he found the moment, he was even more surprised that it made the cut.

Its really interesting because theres definitely a difference with the audience, how they take it. In England, its considered a very chilling moment, a very sort of, the whole audience goes quiet and they dont know what to say or do. Over here , its hilarious.

References From The Canon

  • Harry used Sectumsempra on Draco in Moaning Myrtles restroom during 6th year. He had seen the spell in the Half-Blood Princes potion book, listed for enemies, and indeed, it made Malfoy bleed as if slashed by an invisible sword . Snape entered and quickly began tracing the wounds with his wand to close them while chanting the song-like countercurse, which had to be performed three times before the bleeding stopped . Even after using the countercurse, Snape said that Draco would possibly have scars, but using the herb dittany would help.
  • Harry wondered if something similar to Snapes countercurse would work on Bill Weasleys werewolf bites from Fenrir Greyback, but Madam Pomfrey said the wounds were too cursed to be reversed .
  • Mrs. Weasley performed the countercurse to stop the bleeding of her son George after Snape accidentally removed his ear with Sectumsempra during the Battle of the Seven Potters. However she told Harry she could not replace his ear because Sectumsempra was Dark Magic .
  • When Harry accidentally cut his finger on a broken piece of the two-way mirror Sirius gave him, he couldnt mend his own wound and regretted that serious flaw in his magical education .

He Performs Spells That Aren’t Taught

Although not always the most powerful spells, Draco frequently performs magic that isnt taught in class. He is seen to perform a variety of random charms hexes and jinxes, specifically, the dancing feet spell in his second year.

Although not officially credited with the task it is also widely suspected that Draco was the person responsible for bewitching badges which read Potter stinks during the Triwizard tournament. He certainly seems capable enough to do so and definitely has the motive.

The Spells At Hogwarts

How did J.K. Rowling come up with the names of all of those magical wizarding spells?

During a 2004 interview at the Edinburgh Book Festival, Rowling said:

Does anyone know where Avada Kedavra came from? It is an ancient spell in Aramaic, and it is the original of abracadabra, which means let the thing be destroyed. Originally, it was used to cure illness and the thing was the illness, but I decided to make it the thing as in the person standing in front of me. I take a lot of liberties with things like that. I twist them round and make them mine.

Rowling studied French and Classics at the University of Exeter, and the names of most charms, curses, jinxes, and spellsfrom Accio to Sectumsempraare based on Latin roots!

Lets look at the etymology, or word origins, of the spells in the wizarding worldand where Latin ends and Rowlings imagination begins.

Did Harry Get In Trouble For Hurting Draco

Snape saved Draco, and having realised that Harry got a hold of the old textbook, he punished Harry with a multitude of detentions for nearly killing Malfoy. Harry, despite disliking Malfoy, did not truly want to harm Malfoy to such an extent, and was both horrified and guilt-ridden by using the curse against him.

He Used The Imperious Curse On Madam Rosmerta

Sectumsempra

Weve already established that it requires a great deal of power to perform unforgivable curses. The strongest example of this is when Draco uses the Imperious curse on Madam Rosmerta. This allows him to control her actions.

He successfully keeps Rosmerta under the curse for an extended period of time.

This is in order to smuggle banned artefacts into Hogwarts. She also reports back information to Draco to assist in his plans.

The power required to sustain this difficult curse for so long is immense. This is one of the most compelling demonstrations of Dracos power.

Draco Is Related To Sirius Tonks Ron And Nevilleand Maybe Harry

The Wizarding Worlds Sacred Twenty-Eight, the list of names that identified 28 pure-blood families released in the 1930s, was designed to help such families maintain the purity of their bloodlines. Its not an entirely accurate listthe Potters didnt make the cut due to their surname being common among Mugglesand some families, such as the Weasleys, resented being on the list.

But for others, it indicated which families were worth associating with or intermarrying with. You dont have to go back very far to discover that many of the characters we met throughout Harry Potter are directly related to one another.

Thats very much the case for Draco, and although our viewpoint on the Malfoy side is fairly limited, we have a far better idea of how wide that spans through Dracos mother Narcissa, whos a member of The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black. Nymphadora Tonks is Dracos first cousin through her mother Andromeda, Narcissas older sister. Narcissa, Andromeda, and Bellatrix were first cousins to Sirius Black, so that would make Sirius Dracos first cousin once removed. Teddy Lupin, who was born in Deathly Hallows to Tonks and Remus Lupin, would be Dracos first cousin once removed, while Delphini from Cursed Child would be his first cousin through his aunt Bellatrix.

If you go back far enough chances are a Malfoy couldve married a Potter at some point. We just dont know yet.

The Time Harry Almost Killed Him

To be fair to Harry, Draco wasn’t in the mood to chat and he seemed ready to give back just as hard as he got. But it was still crossing a line for Harry to use the spell Sectusempra against Draco – especially since he had no idea what the spell could do.

Draco ended up bleeding profusely and it’s safe to assume he could have died if Snape hadn’t intervened in time.

He Has A Hawthorne Wand

The first notable proof of Dracos talent is in his hands, literally. According to Pottermore, Ollivander considered to be a resounding authority on such things, states that a Hawthorne wand should only be used by

“a witch or wizard of proven talent.

Ollivander will have sold Draco his wand and his thoughts here echo the fact that he wouldnt do so if he didnt feel that Draco had proven talent. To display this at such a young age, with no formal magical training, shows great power and potential.

Harry Potter On Travers

Harry Potter using spell SectumSempra | Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy Duel

During the events of the Deathly Hallows book, Harry is left with no choice but to break into Gringotts Bank with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in order to take Helga Hufflepuff’s famous cup from Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault. Yet though he and his friends take Polyjuice potion to become disguised, they inevitably run into trouble.

Death Eater Travers is one person who attempts to stop them but Harry, due to some quick-thinking, uses the Imperius Curse on him to force him into hiding. Things are different in the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 movie, however, with Harry using the spell on somebody else instead…

Impervius Would Be A Dream Come True For People With Glasses

Another spell that would be super useful in the day-to-day lives of all the glasses wearers out there, the Impervius Charm makes the target object repel all forms of moisture.

Hermione Granger used it on Harry Potter’s spectacles when he was struggling to see during a rainy Quidditch match, and this tactic was later adopted by the rest of the Gryffindor team during one stormy practice session. Incidentally, this wasn’t the only time Hermione influenced the Quidditch with her magic she secured Ron Weasley’s place on the Gryffindor team when she used the Confundus Charm on his obnoxious rival Cormac McLaggen during tryouts.

Hermione also used Impervius when she, Harry, and Ron broke into Gringotts during the film “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” though bank robbers would be unlikely to use this spell in real life. The steamy spectacle struggle has become even more real in the age of mask wearing, and countless people would snap your wand off for the chance to use Impervius on their glasses. Of course, the spell works on more than just specs use Impervius on your entire outfit and say bye-bye to umbrellas.
