How Did The Harry Potter Series Evolve As The Directors Changed
The original Harry Potter franchise spanned eight films, helmed by a total of four directors. Each brought his own pedigree to the films, and each directors individual talents and trademark style contributed to the expanding Harry Potter universe. As the stories press forward, what begins as a childrens story steeped in whimsy and fantasy evolves into a dark study of humanity, love, friendship, and malice. The shift in directors over time also reflects the growing intensity of the material.
The first two films, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone and The Chamber of Secrets , were directed by Chris Columbus. Columbus is known for directing childrens movies and family films like Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire. Columbus frequently finds box office success with his films, but he doesnt have an incredibly distinct cinematic style to his work. Where he excells is working with untrained child actors and creating heartwarming family films with that untested talent. This made him the perfect choice to introduce the franchise.
Some consider Columbus Potter films to be the most loyal to their novelizations. That may be true, but its arguable that this is simply because the first two books contain less material than later installments.

How Many Fantastic Beasts Movies Are There
Warner Bros. released the latest installment in the Fantastic Beasts series in early 2022. The Fantastic Beasts films are a prequel to the original Harry Potter ones, and are based on the guidebook Rowling published in 2001. The first film, released in 2016, follows wizard Newt Scamander on an adventure to find escaped magical beasts. The other two films are the 2018 Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and the most recent release, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.
Theres even plenty of behind the scenes footage to consume. HBO released a nearly two-hour special in December featuring Harry Potter cast members celebrating the 20th anniversary of the first film.

After unexpected events at the end of the previous year, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are entrusted with a quest to find and destroy Lord Voldemort’s secret to immortality the Horcruxes. It is supposed to be their final year at Hogwarts, but the collapse of the Ministry of Magic and Voldemort’s rise to power prevents them from attending. The trio undergo an arduous journey with many obstacles in their path including Death Eaters, Snatchers, the mysterious Deathly Hallows, and Harry’s connection with the Dark Lord’s mind becoming ever stronger.

Harry Potter is an orphaned boy brought up by his unkind Muggle aunt and uncle. At the age of eleven, half-giant Rubeus Hagrid informs him that he is actually a wizard and that his parents were murdered by an evil wizard named Lord Voldemort. Voldemort also attempted to kill one-year-old Harry on the same night, but his killing curse mysteriously rebounded and reduced him to a weak and helpless form. Harry became extremely famous in the Wizarding World as a result. Harry begins his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and learns about magic. During the year, Harry and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger become entangled in the mystery of the Philosopher’s Stone which is being kept within the school.

Limited And Vod Releases: Tragic Fate For Those Who Miss These Films
There isnt a huge selection of limited releases this week, but there are several earning excellent reviews, such as 120 Beats Per Minute, , Tragedy Girls, and others. Home Market Releases For March 12th 2019
Its not a good week on the home market. There are some big releases, like Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, but none of them are good. There are a couple of contenders for Pick of the Week, but the The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends: The Complete Series DVD is a re-release at a more reasonable price, while it is worth waiting to get the The Miseducation of Cameron Post: Special Edition Blu-ray. In the end, I went with a late screener, The Forbidden Photos Of A Lady Above Suspicion: Collectors Edition Blu-ray. It is definitely the best bet for fans of Giallo and / or Film Noir. More…

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone introduced everyone to the world of Harry Potter . We meet 11-year-old Harry as he discovers that he is not just a neglected child, but a wizard. He then travels to Hogwarts where he meets his soon-to-be best friends forever, Hermione and Ron .
Quickly, our hero is tested when he learns that dark forces reside in Hogwarts trying to bring back He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named . Chris Columbus directs this Harry Potter movie and really does a fantastic job of bringing new and old fans of the characters into this world. If this first film wasnt so well received, who knows if the franchise would have gained as much success as it did. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone really set the films up for potential success.
Are The Harry Potter Movies On Peacock Or Hbo Max
Wait, didn’t Peacock have the Harry Potter movies? Or was it HBO Max? Yes, they have swapped ownership of the franchise since they both launched. Currently , both services are streaming all Harry Potter movies.
HBO Max streamed the Harry Potter movies when it launched in summer 2020. See, WarnerMedia owns the Harry Potter film franchise. However, the corporation sold the broadcast and cable rights to NBCUniversal, which owns Peacock. But WarnerMedia borrowed them back likely for a hefty fee so that its new streaming service could launch with some big titles.
Then, the Harry Potter movies moved back to Peacock, where they streamed on and off through 2021. They returned to HBO Max over the summer. In October, both streamers have them.
And then who knows what will happen in 2025, when NBCUniversal’s TV rights lapse.
As writer Jess Mason joked on , “Harry Potter is like the child of a divorce where the parents are Universal and Warner Bros and the franchise just keeps being pulled to different homes.”
So many streaming services, all fighting over the same valuable IP.

Its a good week for Pick of the Week contenders, as there are seven such releases on this weeks list. Unfortunately, none of them really scream out as The Pick of the Week. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is by far the biggest, but it is only out on Video on Demand right now, while Hidden Figures is the best, but again, it is only on VOD this week. There are also a couple of busted Oscar-bait films, Archer: Season Seven is only getting a DVD release, while the previous seasons came out on Blu-ray. Yesterday was Thanksgiving and some studios were closed for the day, but we have a full list of box office numbers today. Ralph Breaks the Internet continued to lead the way at the box office with $10.3 million on Thursday for a two-day total of $28.8 million. The film is still well above Coco and Moanas two-day pace, but it fell 44% from its Wednesday debut, which is a sharper decline than either of those two films suffered. It is on pace to dominate the five-day weekend with $85 million, which is below yesterdays pace and below Frozens record-setting wide expansion, but I cant imagine there are many people at Disney that are disappointed with this result.
