So you came back, didnt you? said Harry urgently.

People can come back, right? As ghosts. They dont have to disappear completely.

So, said Harry, dredging up the words from what felt like a deep well of despair inside him, so does that mean that . . . that one of us has got to kill the other one . . . in the end?

Wizards much older and cleverer than you have devised our new program of study. You will be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk-free way . . .

James And The Giant Peach

Speaking of Willy Wonka, while Charlie and the Chocolate Factory might’ve been the obvious pick for a list like this, I went with James and the Giant Peach, as it’s a childhood favorite of mine and one of Roald Dahl’s best. The story follows and orphaned kid named James who’s forced to live with his aunts after his parents die. His adventure begins after he drops some magic crystals near an old peach.

Read by Julian Rhind-Tutt, the audiobook is a great option for families looking for a story on the shorter side, as it only takes about three hours to get through. But if you’re looking for more Roald Dahl stories, Audible has a collection available that includes James and the Giant Peach along with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Enormous Crocodile & The Magic Finger.

    Stephen Fry

There are many other audiobook narrators who narrate the Harry Potter series, but these two are the most popular by far. This is also showcased in how their audiobooks are distributed.

Jim Dales audiobooks are more popular in America and the rest of the world, while the distribution of Stephen Frys audiobooks is focused on the territory of the UK.

Despite this strategy set for marketing the audiobooks both narrators also have fans in different parts of the world based on which style of narration the fans prefer.

This at first glance seems like an ordinary enough statement, but it actually describes a division and constant debate between fans focused on finding the answer to one of the most controversial questions regarding the Harry Potter fandom who out of two narrators is the better one.

Another great option for an enchantingly humorous audiobook experience is Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, beginning with the first book, A Bad Beginning. So bad it’s good? Yes. Even if you’ve seen the 2004 feature adaptation starring Jim Carrey as the villainous Count Olaf, or the Netflix series starring Neil Patrick Harris, these books are well worth a listen for families interested in joining the orphaned Baudelaire children as they attempt to evade the grasp of said Count.

Why is the audiobook a must-listen? Two words: Tim. Curry. The first book in the series offers narration by the excellent Tim Curry and and multiple other cast members providing voices to the narration.

Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone Audiobook Jim Dale Reviews

There has never been a film or series that sent me on such an emotional roller coaster. The series actually fills empty areas of your life and can even be replaced. it can be one and a good or bad thing, personally the most emotional thing for me is that it does a bit of both. I was attached to many characters, even those who could not be understood. I fell in love with warts and characters for only a few days, I have never experienced anything like this in my life. When I finished the series, I was really sad and sad that there were no more movies I could watch. To improve my feeling of being there, and see the series as often as possible to remind me of all the characters and Hogwarts, my favorite place. Harry Potters fan really thrilled and welcomed me. I feel so connected to the characters that its not real. I called for a few days knowing I couldnt go to Hogwarts, marry Draco Malfoy, or be a close friend of Harry, Harmony, and Ron. When I finished the series, I never felt full but empty. You will also notice a change in mood and style and the 2nd film and the 3rd, which continues, is very emotional for me , but dont forget that it ends well! Believe me! Im not someone who is a head baker or Im amazed by things like this, but Harry Potter is very different!

Some of the “Harry Potter” characters have just a few lines, but Dale adheres to the no-small-parts-only-small-actors credo, breathing life into each, no matter their contribution to the advancement of the plot.

He credits much of his audio-book success to two jobs at the start of his career: as a stand-up comic touring the fading music halls of the United Kingdom, and his work on 13 of the wildly popular British sketch movies called Carry On.

When J.K. Rowling asked me to do the Harry Potter audiobooks, she knew my work from the Carry On films,” he said. “I didn’t know I had the ability to do different voices.

The voices, he says, he absorbed on the road.

Because I had toured England for two whole years in a different town every week and lived for that one week with people speaking in that dialect, I think that stayed with me, unbeknown to me,” he said. “Consequently, I was able to delve deep into those memories of what it was like living in Yorkshire, living in Scotland, living in Ireland, living in Wales, and reproduced some of those accents when called upon to do so by J.K. Rowling.

His Schoolhouse show, at which he’ll be accompanied by Mark York, will capture the spirit of Dale’s beloved music halls, with stories and sing-alongs.

While millions have heard his voices in those celebrated readings, from the raspy giant Hagrid to the meek house elf, Dale has not.

The voices in his head are enough.

But his grandson, Alfie, had heard the audiobooks.

  • Every Single Potter Word

There isn’t a single “Potter” word that Dale didn’t speak.

From Chapter 1 The Boy Who Lived in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone:” Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of No. 4 Privet Drive were proud to say they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.”

To the final words of the epilogue to “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”: “The scar had not pained Harry for nineteen years. All was well.”

All is decidedly well for Dale, now 83, who struck gold with the first audio book he ever recorded, 1999s Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.

He has earned 10 Audie Awards , a couple of Grammys and two spots in the Guinness Book of World Records: for occupying six of the Top 10 audiobook titles in one year, and for voicing a record number of characters on one audiobook . The audiobooks have sold millions of copies, on CD, cassette and streaming services.

For this contribution to childrens literature, Queen Elizabeth II named him a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, making him, officially, Jim Dale, MBE.

Not bad for a guy who admits, with a bit of wonder in his voice, that he had no idea what he was doing in the summer of 1999 when he first stood at the microphone in a recording studio with the script from the first chapter before him.
