On November 16th 2001, the very first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone was released.

This was the beginning of a wider franchise, inspired by J.K. Rowlings original books, that would go on to span two film series, a stage play, theme parks, merchandise, and more around the world.

Is Hagrid A Cg

Rather than creating Hagrid as an entirely digital character, which would have been monumentally expensive over the course of eight films, the filmmakers decided on having two separate Hagrids. For closeups and medium shots where he was in the frame, Robbie Coltrane, whom weve all come to know as Hagrid, would appear.

Jk Rowling Confirms Where The First Harry Potter Book Was Really Written

She revealed the true birthplace of Hogwarts, quidditch and key parts of the novels

JK Rowling has revealed the true birth place of the Harry Potter books in a series of myth-busting tweets.

And it blows everything out of the water on those supposed landmarks in Edinburgh and beyond.

The Elephant House in Edinburgh claims on its website that it was “made famous as the place of inspiration to writers such as JK. Rowling, who sat writing much of her early novels in the back room overlooking Edinburgh Castle.”

But, speaking of that cafe, JK Rowling said: “I was thinking of putting a section on my website about all the alleged inspirations and birthplaces of Potter.

“Id been writing Potter for several years before I ever set foot in this cafe, so its not the birthplace, but I *did* write in there so well let them off!”

She revealed that the first time she put pen to paper on the Potter novels was in London.

She explained: “This is the true birthplace of Harry Potter, if you define ‘birthplace’ as the spot where I put pen to paper for the first time.* I was renting a room in a flat over what was then a sports shop.

“The first bricks of Hogwarts were laid in a flat in Clapham Junction.”

She added: “If you define the birthplace of Harry Potter as the moment when I had the initial idea, then it was a Manchester-London train. But I’m perennially amused by the idea that Hogwarts was directly inspired by beautiful places I saw or visited, because it’s so far from the truth.”

Contest: Game Of Chance

There are three wide releases, but only two of them have any chance of becoming more than a midlevel hit. Free Birds is a digitally animated family film that has a very timely release, but it is also a second-tier CG animated film. Ender’s Game is a $110 million film based on a book aimed at young adults. It is yet another film trying to tap into the vacuum left behind by Harry Potter. I don’t think either of them will be big hits, but one of them has to be the target film. I think Free Birds will have better legs, but that Ender’s Game will have a better opening. As such, it is the target film for this week’s box office prediction contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for Ender’s Game. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film’s opening 3-day weekend box office , regardless if they go over or not, will win a copy of The Conjuring on Blu-ray Combo Pack.

Daily Box Office: Ralph Is Breaking Record Books

Its Thanksgiving long weekend, which means many studios are closed and are not reporting official numbers. However, one of the studios that is reporting numbers is Disney and they are reporting record-breaking numbers. Ralph Breaks the Internet earned $18.5 million on Wednesday, which is significantly more than either Coco or Moana managed the previous two years. In fact, this is more than Frozen managed during its record-breaking wide expansion back in 2013. This films reviews are great and it earned an A minus from CinemaScore, so it should have good legs and could top Frozens $93.59 million five-day opening. In fact, some studios think it has a real chance of $100 million during its five-day opening. Im not that bullish, but even if it only earns $90 million over five-days, it will still be a monster hit and way more than we predicted. More…

Want To Feel Old Its Been 20 Years Since The First Harry Potter Was Published

He was so cute: Blond hair, blue eyes and a killer smile. He was dressed in a black robe with a fake scar on his forehead and regaling our fifth-grade class with his book report on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. As a 10-year-old with only the most sophisticated of tastes , I thought the synopsis and his excitement about this brand-new book sounded ridiculous and childish. But we all do crazy things to connect with our crushes, so I decided the novel couldnt be that bad and began reading the Harry Potter series.

I was behind the times, of course. Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone or Sorcerers Stone, for us simple-minded Americans made its debut in the United Kingdom 20 years ago Monday, on June 26, 1997. Anniversary events, from new exhibitions to broomstick lessons, are springing up worldwide to celebrate the occasion, showcasing author J.K. Rowlings tales long-reaching effect.

Millennials like myself are looking at the date wondering how it can possibly be that two decades have passed since we first met Harry, Ron and Hermione, the characters who grew up right alongside us.

It wasnt until 1999 that I began the books in earnest, adamant that I would not fall for the spell they had cast over the rest of the world.

I was wrong.

I wasnt into magic, didnt enjoy unrealistic genres and wasnt much for following the whims of a crowd. But within pages of that first book, I fell hook, line and sinker.

Early On The Books Were Extremely Controversial And In Many Ways They Still Are

What Made Nagini EVIL? Was It Becoming Voldemort’s HORCRUX? – Harry Potter Theory

Part of what made Harry Potter such a literary phenomenon is that so many kids were reading the books despite an unprecedented number of attempts to get them to stop reading the books.

The Harry Potter series, like many works of fantasy, involves wizardry and witchcraft. The feeling that the books thus promoted the occult proved to be the basis for constant challenges to the series presence in school libraries and bookstores by concerned conservative parents. The books first topped the American Library Associations list of the most banned books of the year in 1999, and remained in the top spot for most of the next decade.

In some regions, pressure to censor the series was so high it led to lawsuits: In 2003, a judge ordered an Arkansas school district that had removed the books from schools due to promotion of the religion of witchcraft to return them. Similar formal attempts at removal persisted into the latter half of the decade, and the books continue to rile up conservative religious leaders who warn of its demonic influence.

All of this controversy speaks not only to concerns that Rowlings work would negatively influence children, but to the reality that many of those children grew up to be arguably even more progressive than the books they grew up reading which is, in a way, a confirmation of conservatives worst fears about the series.

Best Harry Potter Books

Selecting the best of the Harry Potter books is akin to choosing among star-studded things. Why, every book in the said series is mind-blowing! However, the first three novels are the best, perhaps by virtue of chronological order. Philosophers Stone, which has been discussed previously, is the cream of the crop.

Author J.K. Rowlings vouchsafed the masterpiece Chamber of Secrets to her readers the book revolves around Harry Potter, unhappy with his hosts, after his encounter with the eccentric creature which delivers a doomy prediction.

In Prisoner of Azkaban, which is a literary dessert, figuratively, the prediction proves to be true after Potter returns to Hogwarts for another school term. A deadly prisoner and escapee is being tracked by prison guards who nourish themselves with others souls. In Potters fools paradise, Hogwarts is seemingly a haven.

Is There A Harry Potter Cast Reunion

HBO Max took the opportunity of the 20-year anniversary of the first Harry Potter film to announce an exciting Harry Potter cast reunion.

They released a trailer made up mostly of old clips from the films, but promising that the original stars, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint would return for a Harry Potter special in the new year.

J.K. Rowling will not be part of the TV special, coming after the author received widespread criticism for controversial comments about the trans community.

The TV special, named Return to Hogwarts, will premiere on January 1st 2022, where the Golden Trio will be joined by American filmmaker Chris Columbus, who also worked on the series, to discuss the films and explore their creation in depth.

The second trailer, debuting on December 7th, revealed that even more stars will be joining the original trio, including Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Tom Felton, James and Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch and many more.

The new footage showed some of these well-loved stars receiving the iconic parchment envelopes, stamped with a red seal, inviting them to come back for the reunion.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

The long-awaited final installment in the Harry Potter series was released on July 21, 2007. Prior to its public release, copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows were kept well guarded, with publishers spending millions of dollars on security to protect details about the plot from leaking. Bookstores were legally forbidden to open boxes containing the books until midnight. Despite the high security, there were several leaks of the books content including photos of every single page appearing on illegal file sharing sites. However, the leaks did nothing to dent the books popularity, as over 15 million copies were sold worldwide. Once again, the series had absolutely smashed its own record for a final time.

On Harry Potter’s 20th Anniversary Listen To His Npr Debut

As for parents in the audience, Adler said, the most common reaction was a sense of relief “that whatever Harry Potter the movie was about, whether it succeeded in portraying this or failed at portraying that, it was not going to do that thing that so many parents feared.”

“It would not destroy the tender plant that the Potter phenomenon had helped cultivate,” she explained. “Their children suddenly sitting on the sofa reading for hours, the family coming together, reading aloud.”

If you’re in the mood to take a spin even further down memory lane, listen to another piece from Adler: the first story NPR ever aired about Harry Potter, on All Things Considered in 1998.

Among other gems, it includes a quote from a bookstore manager marveling at having sold “hundreds” of copies, and Adler’s prophecy that the word “muggle” would take off.

The Tales Of Beedle The Bard

The Tales of Beedle the Bard is a collection of five fairy wizarding tales, told by, well, Beedle the Bard! Professor Dumbledore bequeathed these age-old tales to Hermione Granger, and they turned out to be instrumental in helping Harry Potter crack the clues given to him in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Now it’s your chance to read them for yourself. Though the stories in this book all have a magical twist, the themes at their cores still resonate with what we associate with fairy tales: friendship, the everlasting strength of love, and the magic that each one of us possesses.
