Robin Williams As Remus Lupin
While Hirshenson spoke about Williams being interested in playing Hagrid, Columbus recently revealed that he also wanted to take on the role of Remus Lupin.
Lupin is introduced in the third book, and the third film, as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. But unfortunately, the ‘British Only’ rule was still in place when Robin put his hat into the ring for a second time. The role eventually went to David Thewlis.
In a new interview with Total Film in October 2021, Columbus said: “I had a conversation with Robin Williams, who wanted to play Lupin. It was very difficult for me to say ‘It’s all British. There’s nothing I can do.'”
Columbus revisited those comments in another interview with Insider a month later, saying: “Robin would have been brilliant. It would have been a different interpretation I thought David Thewlis was great but Robin would have been brilliant.”
Saoirse Ronan Was Sad About Not Landing This Harry Potter Role
One of the sweetest characters in the Harry Potter movies is definitely Luna Lovegood, portrayed by Evanna Lynch. But if things had gone differently, Saoirse Ronan could have landed the role.
In a 2011 interview with a gossip blog, Ronan explained that she actually auditioned to play Luna, a fan-favorite character in the Harry Potter franchise, and she was sad when she didn’t get it. “I was too young,” she explained, “but at the time I thought, ‘I’d love to be in Harry Potter.’ When I was younger, I used to think they had the best job in the world,” Ronan said.
Still, when the final movie was brought up, Ronan appeared to have no ill will toward the franchise. “I’ve basically grown up with Harry Potter, as so many kids my age have. It’s kind of a part of my life. I’ll go see it no matter what,” she responded. Clearly, Ronan was a diehard Potter fan, even though she lost out on her dream role.

Albus, meanwhile, comes from “alba”, meaning white. Red and white are mystical components of alchemy, and are often used to represent two sides of human nature. As Harrys two father figures, it makes sense that Hagrid and Dumbledore be linked in this way.
According to Rowling herself, the choice to make Hagrid red and Dumbledore white is closely linked to their personalities. Rubeus Hagrid and Albus Dumbledore both hugely important to Harry, seem to me to represent two sides of the ideal father figure he seeks the former is warm, practical and wild, the latter impressive, intellectual, and somewhat detached. Eddie Redmayne’s Harry Potter Career Could Have Started Earlier
Even though the Harry Potter films wrapped up in 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the franchise has continued on since then. Hagrid had a good relationship with most of his pets and other magical creatures, most notably Fang, Aragog, and Buckbeak. His relationship with most magical creatures was arguably better then the ones most other wizards had.
