Why Voldemort Didn’t Use Avada Kedavra on Snape – Harry Potter Explained

Snape is a master potion maker, and, therefore, it is only natural that he would have intricate knowledge about poisons and how to counter them. His immaculate knowledge about poisons is showcased when Harry recounts an inscription made in Snapes copy of Advanced Potion Making and shoves a bezoar down Rons throat;after;Ron;got poisoned during their sixth year in school.

Ron had mistakenly drunk the oak-matured mead laced with poison, which Horace Slughorn had intended as a gift for Albus Dumbledore. Harrys quick recollection helped save his life; all based on Snapes immaculate knowledge of poisons.

The Killing Curse is a spell that causes instantaneous death and is one of the three Unforgivable Curses. Its incantation is Avada Kedavra. The only known counterspell is sacrificial protection, which uses the magic of love. However, one may dodge the green bolt or block it with a physical barrier.

Snape saved Draco, and having realised that Harry got a hold of the old textbook, he punished Harry with a multitude of detentions for nearly killing Malfoy. What Did Draco Have In Common With Ron And Hermione

Draco admitted to Harry and Ginny Potter that he always envied Harrys friendship with Ron and Hermione, while Draco himself had little in common with Vincent and Gregory, aside from their prejudice that Draco alone grew out of. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort and his Death Eaters have tightened their grip on the wizarding world. Snape is named Headmaster of Hogwarts, while Death Eaters Alecto and Amycus Carrow are appointed as Hogwarts staff. The novel focuses largely on Harry and his friends and events outside the school; therefore Snape plays a limited role at the start. In the course of the book, Harry and his friends find out that a few students attempted to steal the Sword of Godric Gryffindor, and that Snape subsequently sent it to be stored at Gringotts Wizarding Bank; however, that sword was only a copy. Later on, Harry and Ron are led to find the real sword by a Patronus taking the form of a doe.

Towards the end of the school year, Professors McGonagall, Flitwick, and Sprout force Snape to flee the school. Voldemort summons Snape to the Shrieking Shack. Erroneously believing Snape is the master of the Elder Wand and that Snape’s death will make him the master of the Wand, Voldemort kills Snape by having his pet snake Nagini bite him through the neck. The dying Snape releases a cloud of memories and tells Harry, who has watched the entire scene from a hidden spot, to take and view them.

HOW Snape Used Avada Kedavra on Dumbledore – Harry Potter Theory

In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Snape demonstrates his expertise with potions by brewing the complex Wolfsbane potion for the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, Remus Lupin. Throughout the third book, Snape suspects that Lupin may be helping Harry’s godfather Sirius Black enter Hogwarts castle; Sirius had been convicted of murdering Peter Pettigrew and innocent bystanders, and betraying the Potter family’s hiding place to Voldemort. This suspicion stems from Lupin’s friendship with Sirius and Harry’s father, James, while they were all at Hogwarts as students. Near the climax of the book, Snape attempts to apprehend Sirius, but Sirius escapes with Harry’s aid. Snape informs Dumbledore of this circumstance, and when Harry and Lupin are not punished, Snape retaliates by revealing to the entire school that Lupin is a werewolf, forcing the latter to resign his post.

Prisoner of Azkaban reveals more details about the connection between Snape and James. While in school together, Sirius once tricked Snape into almost entering the Shrieking Shack while Lupin was there, transformed into a werewolf. James realised the danger and stopped Snape, saving his life; this is the incident Dumbledore referred to at the end of the first book. Snape, however, believes James’ actions were self-serving, to avoid being expelled.

Knew About Vulnera Sanentur

Snape is not someone who would create a curse without having a proper counter-curse in place. A fact about Snape that book-fans would know is that he was a master at the dark arts even from an early age, creating curses and counter-curses on the fly. Therefore, the existence of Vulnera Sanentur, which literally means “to heal wounds” in Latin, and the fact that only Snape has ever used it in both the original books and the movies, is nothing to be surprised about.

The only spell known to heal Sectumsempra, the incantation Vulnera Sanentur needs to be repeated thrice in a sing-song manner. The first time it is spoken, the victims blood flow eases, the second time stitches the wounds, and the third helps them to heal.

What If Harry’s Sectumsempra Killed Draco Malfoy? – Harry Potter Theory
  • Harry used Sectumsempra on Draco in Moaning Myrtle’s restroom during 6th year. He had seen the spell in the Half-Blood Prince’s potion book, listed “for enemies,” and indeed, it made Malfoy bleed as if “slashed by an invisible sword” . Snape entered and quickly began tracing the wounds with his wand to close them while chanting the song-like countercurse, which had to be performed three times before the bleeding stopped . Even after using the countercurse, Snape said that Draco would possibly have scars, but using the herb dittany would help.
  • Harry wondered if something similar to Snape’s countercurse would work on Bill Weasley’s werewolf bites from Fenrir Greyback, but Madam Pomfrey said the wounds were too cursed to be reversed .
  • Mrs. Weasley performed the countercurse to stop the bleeding of her son George after Snape accidentally removed his ear with Sectumsempra during the Battle of the Seven Potters. However she told Harry she could not replace his ear because Sectumsempra was Dark Magic .
  • When Harry accidentally cut his finger on a broken piece of the two-way mirror Sirius gave him, he couldn’t mend his own wound and regretted that “serious flaw in his magical education” .

Since Only Snape And Harry Ever Cast It The Ministry Doesn’t Really Need To Be Concerned

Severus Snape invented Sectumsempra. When Harry tried to cast it on Snape, he said:

“You dare use my own spells against me, Potter? It was I who invented them ~ I, the Half-Blood Prince!”

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Let’s assume that Snape is telling the truth on this and that he did indeed create it. The only two people we see cast it are him and Harry .

Snape is at this point is a known Death Eater and there isn’t much point in criminalizing a spell that only he is casting. And the Ministry seems unaware that Harry committed it.

But if the Ministry starts getting hundreds of reports that non-Deatheaters were casting it, they might have decided to make it an Unforgivable Curse.

Harry Potter And The Half

In the second chapter of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy visit Snape at his home in Spinner’s End. Narcissa’s son Draco has been given a difficult task by Voldemort, and Narcissa swears Snape to an Unbreakable Vow that he will protect Draco, help him complete Voldemort’s task, and finish the task himself if Draco fails. When questioned by Bellatrix about his loyalties, Snape says he has been working for Voldemort ever since Voldemort’s return, and explains his actions in the previous books in that light. He points out that gaining Dumbledore’s trust and protection has kept him out of Azkaban and free to operate on Voldemort’s behalf.

Later, during a fight with Draco, Harry casts one of the Prince’s spells marked “For Enemies,” and is horrified by the devastating wounds it inflicts to Draco’s face and chest. Snape rushes to the scene and heals Draco, then interrogates Harry regarding the spell, using Legilimency to extract the source of Harry’s knowledge from Harry’s mind. When Snape insists that Harry show him his Potions textbook, Harry hides the Prince’s book and gives him Ron Weasley‘s book instead. As punishment for the attack and knowing Harry is lying about the textbook, Snape assigns Harry detention during the final Quidditch match of the year.
