How Harry Potter Got His Scar

Does The Scar Go Away After The Voldemort Death

Wait, Harry Potters Scar Might Not be a Lightning Bolt?

When Harry confronts Voldemort in the Battle of Hogwarts, in the hope that he will spare all the others in Hogwarts, Lord Voldemort fires a killing curse on Harry that destroys the part of Voldemorts soul residing inside him.

This means that the scar that connects Harry with Voldermot should be erased. However, the novel doesnt reveal explicitly if the scar goes away after Lord Voldemorts death.

Its The Only Thing Younger Harry Liked About His Appearance

Its fair to say that growing up living in a cupboard under the stairs, and raised by your monstrously callous aunt and uncle doesnt do much for your self-esteem. Thats probably why the young Harry Potter prior to discovering his magical heritage on his eleventh birthday was plagued by some pretty major self-image issues.

Poor Harry was a short, scrawny kid thatll happen when youre chronically underfed with knobbly knees and over-sized, round glasses. As if that werent enough, he also sported a head of perennially unkempt, overgrown hair inherited from his father.

Its not all that surprising to learn that the one physical characteristic upon which the Boy Who Lived prided himself on was actually his lightning bolt-shaped scar!

Not only does it look next-level cool, but it also somehow suggested to Harry that he was special and provided him with a link to the parents he so sorely longed for.

In the years following his arrival at Hogwarts, our hero morphed into a tall, well-nourished, handsome guy , and his self-image problems largely evaporated. Its a good thing, too: Harry gradually became self-conscious about his scar due to the fame attached to it and the stares it drew and no longer held such high affection for it!

Harry Potter Fans Stunned To Discover Iconic Scar Might Not Be A Lightning Bolt

It turns out Harry Potter’s famous scar might not actually be a lightning bolt after all – but something much more sinister

  • 11:50, 31 Jul 2019

When you think of the Boy Who Lived, you probably think of round glasses, a bedroom in a cupboard under the stairs and a lightning bolt scar.

But it turns out everything we thought we knew about Harry Potter’s legendary scar might actually be a lie.

Some very dedicated Harry Potter fans are convinced that the jagged red mark on Harry’s forehead might not actually be a lightning bolt, but something else entirely.

And it’s causing quite a stir on social media.

The account, Today Years Old, has made this bold claim, after discovering more about the killing curse which produced the scar.

In a post, they wrote: “Did you know Harry Potter’s scar isn’t a lightning bolt, but actually the hand motion to cast Avada Kedavra.”

Alongside this, they shared a photo of Harry’s scar and a screenshot of an entry from Harry Potter Wiki about the unforgivable spell.

The screenshot shows the hand movement needed for casting the curse – which is the same shape as Harry’s scar.

This would make sense as it is the same spell that Voldemort used to kill Harry’s parents – resulting in his scar.

The tweet quickly garnered a lot of attention, with more than 2,000 likes and hundreds of shares.

People couldn’t hide their shock at the revelation.

10 Things You Didnt Know About Harry Potters Scar

It’s one of the most recognisable things about Harry Potter.

But it turns out that the Boy Who Lived’s lightning bolt shaped scar may actually be shaped like something else entirely.

Harry had the scar for pretty much his entire life, after Voldemort tried to kill him when he was just a baby.

As a result of Lily Evans Potter’s sacrifice and protection, the Killing Curse that He Who Must Not Be Named used on Harry bounced back – getting him instead.

It left the then-baby Harry with a scar that appeared to take the shape of a lightning bolt.

However, a Twitter account pointed out earlier this year that the boy wizard’s marking on his forehead may be something else – the hand motion to cast Avada Kedavra.

Did you know Harry Potters scar isnt a lightning bolt, but actually the hand motion to cast Avada Kedavra

Today Years Old

The post was originally shared back in January, but considering today would have been Harry’s 39th birthday , we figured there’s no better time to bring it back.

Today Years Old shared a photo of Harry lifting up his hair to show his scar alongside a screen grab from the Harry Potter Wiki entry on the killing curse.

The listing includes a diagram of the hand movement used to cast the spell – which, OK, is very similar to the shape of Harry’s scar.

Many fans replied to the message to acknowledge the “strange fact”, although one person was quick to clarify that the scar is actually both a lightning bolt and the curse.

Why Isn’t There A Second Scar

Harry willingly walks into the Forbidden Forest to accept his fate at the hands of Voldemort and is completely unsurprised when he is struck by his infamous jet of green light. This acted in the same way as his mother’s sacrifice, and permanently prevents the Dark Lord from hurting anyone at Hogwarts

The attack unwittingly destroys his own soul, but Harry comes back from the dead with no further injuries, but such a thing is only possible if the Killing Curse was aimed at the scar with pinpoint accuracy. If not, where’s the new lightning bolt?

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

This idea of his scar as a weakness was something that solidified in Order of the Phoenix. Whilst Harry had previously viewed his scar as something to be proud of, the scar was now not only causing him physical pain, but emotional trauma too. Throughout his fifth year at Hogwarts, the Ministry of Magic used it as a way to discredit and mock him. The Daily Prophet, following Rita Skeeters article about Harry collapsing all over the place, included lines such as, Lets hope he hasnt got a scar on his forehead or well be asked to worship him next. Whilst in previous years, pain in Harrys scar had been something unusual, in Order of the Phoenix, the prickling sensation in his forehead became commonplace, a constant reminder that Lord Voldemort had returned contrary to the lies the Ministry were disseminating. In short, Harrys relationship with his scar with the varying levels of pain that came with visions, dreams, Voldemorts emotions, and Ministry mockery took over his whole life. This was something that came out in anger when Hermione urges him to tell Dumbledore that its hurting: Yeah, said Harry, before he could stop himself, thats the only bit of me Dumbledore cares about, isnt it, my scar? He wasnt the boy with the scar anymore, the scar was defining him.

What About Harry’s Early Years

After failing to kill his “chosen” nemesis, Voldemort flees into the wild Albanian forests, hoping that one of his minions would seek him out. Of course, this doesn’t occur, so he spends most of his time possessing random animals to survive , only escaping his misery when Quirrell comes along on one of his expeditions.

And for eleven years, Harry’s scar didn’t make a single sound? Was it because Voldemort was half a world away? Or because the details of their connection hadn’t been fleshed out yet?

Why Is It A Lightning Bolt

Harry Potter | Battle Scars

The scar is not shaped like a lightning bolt for any specific reason, and besides, nobody in magical history had ever survived a direct hit from the Killing Curse before, and there is, therefore, no knowledge of what the resultant scar might look like.

More importantly, it seems to be an artifact of Voldemort’s accidental Horcrux-creation, and not directly related to Avada Kedavra. Rowling herself mentioned that her design choice was “because it’s a cool shape. I couldn’t have my hero sport a doughnut-shaped scar.”

Does The Scar Do Anything

Not on its own. The lightning scar on Harrys forehead was more or less just something that he had during his early childhood when he wasnt aware of his magical ancestry. But after the events of Philosopher’s Stone, his scar starts to twinge and hurt.

Harry discovers in Prisoner Of Azkaban the story behind his parents murder, which leads to Voldemorts resurrection in Goblet Of Fire where the scar acts as an alarm of sorts, signalling when Voldemort or his influence was near Harry.

More than that, the scar represents the connection between Harry and Voldemort: particularly in how the two of them are destined to destroy each other eventually. A large part of the latter books deals with how Harry struggles to prevent Voldermorts influence on his life and mental psyche, and his scar was always a good indicator of when this presence was particularly powerful.

Eventually, good triumphs over evil and Harry finally destroys Voldemort as prophesied. The scar doesnt disappear with his defeat, but it doesnt twinge or hurt anymore, giving Harry the assurance that Voldemort is gone for good.

It’s Been Over Two Decades Since The First Harry Potter Book Was Released But The Magic Lives On

A fan theory about Harry Potter’s lightning-shaped scar has left Potterheads surprised.

It’s been over 20 years since the first Harry Potter book was released, but the magic lives on. Even today, Potterheads are finding new theories about the magical world, and one such theory, recently propounded by a Twitter user, has left netizens very surprised.

A Twitter account by the name Today Years Old recently made the claim that Harry’s famous lighning bolt-shaped scar is not actually a lightning bolt, but linked to the killing curse that was used to murder his parents.

“Did you know Harry Potter’s scar isn’t a lightning bolt, but actually the hand motion to cast Avada Kedavra,” they wrote, sharing a picture of the hand movement required to cast the killing curse.

Does It Ever Disappear

The scar is resistant to any kind of healing magic, irrespective of how powerful, because of its dark origins. Which is fine, but shouldn’t it vanish like any other non-magical scar after the whole situation is resolved? It remains on Harry’s forehead, regardless, although it does fade a considerable amount over time.

There is no Horcrux trying to squeeze its way out anymore, so the portal should have been fully sealed. Then again, how can something so recognizable be made to disappear?

The Scar Is A Horcrux

Harry Potter Fans Shocked After Learning Iconic Scar Isn

During the incident when Harry, in his dream, saw Nagini attack the Arther Wisely in December 1995 and the burning of the Scar when he was forced to confront the newly returned Lord Voldemort, it became clear to Albus Dumbeloor that there is a deep connection of Harry with the darkest sorcerer of all time.

Later, it was made clear that Harry is a Horcrux of Lord Voldemort and stores a small soul of his attacker. When during the vicious attack on infant Harry by the cruel and greatest magician of the Slytherin house , he was saved by his mothers sacrifice. In return, he gave him a small part of Voldemorts soul that got stored in his forehead scar.

Prince William Has A Harry Potter Scar On His Forehead And The Story Behind It Is Wild

Hot off the heels of realizing Kate Middleton has a giant three-inch scar hidden in her hairline thanks to a mysterious childhood operation, I discovered some more shook-inducing royal scar news. The Duchess’ husband Prince William also has a facial scar.

William’s scar is on his forehead much like that of everyone’s favorite wizard Harry Potter. In fact, William actually calls it his “Harry Potter scar.”

So, how did William get this thing? Turns out he was hit with a golf club when he was 13. Which is clearly the most ridiculously royal scar origin story ever.

“I call it because it glows sometimes and some people notice itother times they don’t notice it at all,” he said in a 2009 interview. “I got hit by a golf club when I was playing golf with a friend of mine. We were on a putting green and the next thing you know there was a seven-iron and it came out of nowhere and it hit me in the head.”

^Me, thinking about how it’s weird that Kate and William both have scars within mere inches of each other.

At the end of Order of the Phoenix, Harry found out more about his scar and what Dumbledore had been keeping from him about it for years, and this changed his relationship with the mark of Dark magic even further. Dumbledore revealed these particular words of the Prophecy that were relevant to the scar: and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not And Harry could not stop thinking about the fact that Neville Longbottom could have been marked with the scar instead, could have been the boy whose family Voldemort decided to hunt down.

Half-Blood Prince was where it really sunk in for Harry that his scar wasnt just meant for the past, it marked him as the one who must kill Lord Voldemort neither can live whilst the other survives. The scar wasnt just a battle-wound anymore it was a target.

It Changes Position Throughout The Movies

As weve already explained previously, its actually the Harry Potter movies that gets the placement of the boy wizards scar correct. At the same time, across all eight movies in which Harry appears, that little lightning bolt never appears in quite the same part of his forehead every time.

This shouldnt come as much of a shock, when you think about it. The make-up artists who worked on the franchise were required to re-apply the scar prosthesis to the faces of actor Daniel Radcliffe and his stunt doubles a gob-smacking 5,800 times in total.

As such, despite the very best of efforts to maintain continuity, its totally understandable that Harrys scar while still remaining above his right eye would move slightly between scenes.

Given that each Harry Potter flick was filmed out of order, this does lead to instances where the scar prosthesis shifts positions dramatically between shots.

All that said, without a doubt the most obvious not to mention hardest to ignore issue surrounding Harrys scar on the big screen is those occasions when its absent. Thats right, there are a handful of brief moments scattered throughout the franchise when his scar vanishes entirely!

It’s The Only Physical Wound Ever Left By Avada Kedavra

HOW HARRY POTTER REALLY GOT HIS SCAR !!

In the Harry Potter books and movies, a big deal is made about the Avada Kedavra curse causing its victims to snuff it without inflicting any internal or external marks on its victims. We see this numerous times throughout the series Harrys parents, Voldemorts muggle relatives, Professor Dumbledore and many others meet their end without a single scratch to show for it.

Thats what makes the spell so evil: its ability to instantly and in nearly all circumstances, unstoppably end a life.

However, Avada Kedavra can be evaded, if the intended target is incredibly lucky. They might rely on their reflexes to avoid the deadly jet of green light before it makes contact with them either leaping out of the way or taking cover nearby. They can also deflect the curse with a spell of their own although this requires unbelievably precise aim and timing.

In very rare circumstances, they can be saved by the Priori Incantatem effect. This the joining together of spells when two wands with the exact same core material are used against each other.

Crucially, in all these circumstances, the intended victim isnt actually hit by Avada Kedavra they evade it.

Harry Potter is the only known directsurvivor of this curse.

This also affords him the dubious honor of being the only person ever physically injured by the spell, in the form of the lightning bolt-shaped gash on his forehead.

This Fan Theory About Harry Potters Scar Changes Everything

Everyone knows Harry Potter for his lightning bolt scar, but fans of the series have uncovered that Harrys trademark feature might not be as familiar as we thought.

Harrys scar is in fact not a lightning bolt, but the hand motion to cast Avada Kedavra. The more you know!

Today Years Old

There is debate surrounding the idea as fans cannot prove whether or not that is the official hand motion. Fans noted that Voldemort did appear to be doing the hand motion in the film when he tried to kill Harry. Also, Harrys scar would appear to be backward from the motion pictured.

See how Harry Potter fans reacted on Twitter to the news, also hear some of their proposed theories.

So if this is true, then why is the movement NEVER mentioned elsewhere at any point and time? Also, if this is true, why has nothing been confirmed/denied on it yet by herself?
