Why Does Hermione Obliviate Her Parents

Why Wasn’t Hermione Placed In Ravenclaw

Harry, Ron, and Hermione Leave Home | Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1

This is one of the most confusing aspects of the books/films. Why wasn’t Hermione placed in Ravenclaw as opposed to Gryffindor? She seems so much better fit for Rowena’s house. Ravenclaw leads by intellect, wisdom, and logic. This describes Hermione in a nutshell.

She isn’t conventionally brave like most Gryffindors are, so why is she in this house? Perhaps it’s just more convenient for the plot to have her in the same house as Ron and Harry.

Why Did Hermione Choose Ron

This is a more controversial question considering there are tons of Potter fans who believe Ron and Hermione are destined to be with one another. Although love is love, and you can’t choose who you fall for, we still think Hermione could have done better than Ron. Ron would undermine Hermione throughout the entire series, and she was no angel to him either.

Sure, there was tension between them, but chemistry does not equate to a solid marriage with someone. One would think Hermione would choose someone who she was more compatible with, someone who would lift her up rather than tear her down.

Why Does Hermione Struggle With Patronus

The Patronus seems to rely on pure emotion in order to power it. Someone who is so logically invested as Hermione probably has trouble tapping into that, since it involves allowing your feelings and memories to overtake you. Shes just a bit too inhibited and rationalizes too much for her to tap into that power easily.

She Wasnt Good At Everything

Hermione may have been the brightest witch of her age, but there were one or two things she never got the hang of. For example, unlike Harry, she struggled a little when it came to producing a Patronus. She often lost at wizard chess and she wasnt much of a knitter if her house-elf fashion line was anything to go by. Oh, and her first flying lesson didnt go too smoothly either:

Hermione Grangers had simply rolled over on the ground and Nevilles hadnt moved at all. Perhaps brooms, like horses, could tell when you were afraid, thought Harry. Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

Lets not forget the short-lived spell in Professor Trelawneys Divination class. Ron touched a nerve when he said Hermione didnt like being rubbish at something for a change. But looking back to the first book, she was always sceptical about Divination.

Anyway, who says the centaurs are right? It sounds like fortune-telling to me, and Professor McGonagall says thats a very imprecise branch of magic.Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

Why Did Hermione Obliviate Her Parents?

Warner Bros. Pictures

J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter novels, is arguably the most influential living author. She ushered in a new era of fantasy, accessible to children and parents alike. She created an entire world of magic that will be a part of our literary psyche for centuries to come. And, with a regular presence on social media, in interviews, and a continual expansion of the Harry Potter universe in movies such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Pottermore, and the two-part stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Rowling has done what few authors have done: she continually adds to the canon of her creations outside of the books themselves.

Its unprecedented for the great fantasy authors of our time to do what Rowling does. George R. R. Martin is not even finished with his A Song of Ice and Fire series and he is the first to point out that the canon of the Game of Thronesshow isnt in line with the books. J.R.R. Tolkiens son, Christopher, compiled his fathers notes, poems, and stories in The Silmarillion to help us suss out Middle Earth stories beyond The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Rowling, however, can change the plot of Harry Potter with a single tweet. She can make you rethink everything you felt and believed about her world with one casual comment in an interview. For lifelong fans, this can be either good or bad. Weve ranked the theories that had the most impact here, from best to worst.

Professor Mcgonagalls Childhood Sucked

Tumblr

Pottermore has given us incredible amounts of information, including a few bits about its current headmistress, Professor Minerva McGonagall. Thanks to Pottermore, we now know that McGonagall had a complicated history with a muggle father and a witch mother who did not reveal her magical status to her husband until Minerva received an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. She grew up in an unhappy home with parents who fought constantly. In addition, she herself fell in love with a muggle and became engaged to him. However, she grew fearful of repeating her parents mistakes, she abandoned the engagement and devoted her life to the study of magic. Her backstory is a beautifully deep and complex one and reveals a lot about her character. How much more powerful would it have been to reveal that in the books themselves, though? We got the intense histories of Professor Dumbledore, Voldemort, Snape, and many members of the Black family in the books if only wed gotten to read some background about Professor McGonagall, too, it might have made her character more empathetic and understandable.

Why Do They Make Her Look Like Such A Bombshell In The Later Films

We know Hollywood is guilty of adaptational attractiveness where they have an ugly or average looking fictional character and they have them portrayed by a conventionally beautiful actor/actress. Emma Watson’s portrayal of Hermione Granger is one of the most obvious examples of this because Watson is conventionally stunning while Hermione is described to be average and nothing special to look at.

So why did they glam Watson up to make her look even more beautiful as the movies progressed? Instead of Hermione having bushy brown hair, she instead had blonde beach curls in the later films. Not exactly the Hermione we were picturing in the books. Still, Watson did a fantastic job portraying her and we couldn’t imagine anyone else for the role.

Harry Potter: Why Hermione Wiped Her Parents Memory

Hermione Granger – Obliviate

Hermione Granger memorably altered her parents’ memories during a dangerous time in the Harry Potter series, but she did it for a good reason.

Hermione Granger memorably wiped her existence from her parents’ memories during a tumultuous time in the Harry Potter series, but it was for a good reason. Hermione, played by Emma Watson in all eight films based on the books by J.K. Rowling, was one of Harry’s best friends. Mr. and Mrs. Granger were played by Ian Kelly and Michelle Fairley after the series recast Tom Knight and Heather Bleasdale.

Though Hermione’s parents didn’t have integral roles in the story, a few details about them were unveiled. Mr. and Mrs. Granger were both Muggles who worked as dentists outside of London. They were highly supportive of their daughter and the fact that she was a witch. They may have not been members of the wizarding world themselves, but the Grangers often accompanied their daughter to Diagon Alley. It’s likely that Mr. and Mrs. Granger were kept in the dark when it came to the dangers that emerged, or else they probably wouldn’t have allowed Hermione to return to Hogwarts in her later years.

If Hermione Had Died On The Hunt For The Horcruxes Would Her Parents Remember Her

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Hermione reveals that she wiped her parents’ memory of ever having a daughter.

In The Half-Blood Prince, just before the confrontation between the Death Eaters and Dumbledore, Dumbledore casts a body-bind curse on Harry to prevent him from leaving the Astronomy tower during the confrontation, but breaks when Dumbledore is killed.

If the memory charm is similar to the body-bind curse, would Hermione’s parents remember her if she had died on the search for the horcruxes? Or is the memory charm more similar to the permanent sticking charm, wherein it is absolutely unbreakable, even if the person who cast the charm dies?

There are plenty of examples of magic outliving its creator death does not undo all the magic you have ever done. Consider things like:

Dumbledore’s protections on Hogwarts, Sirius’s father’s and Moody’s protective charms on number 12 Grimmauld Place, the magical properties of ancient magical artefacts and all the permanent sticking charms.

I think you have to have to view some magic as active and some as a permanent change of property. Your grip on somebody’s body or mind might be something that might only last as long as your magical powers allow, while transfiguring indicates that fundamental change and would outlive you.

Accepting that gives you two ways to look at what Hermione did:

Ooo, with help from the Harry Potter Wikia page on Memory Charms, we can see that it wasn’t obliviate:

Remember When Hermione Granger Obliviated Her Parents Well What Ever Happened To Them Did They Remember Her Or Do They Completely Forget Their Daughter

Hermione Granger had to use a spell on her parents to make them forget everything about their daughter. She whispered obliviateand then everything about Hermione Jane Granger was gone. But did she ever fix their memories?

There are a lot of moments in this series that have us questioning what ever happened with that but none more than the mystery of Hermiones parents. In an effort to protect them, Hermione erases all memories and evidence that she ever existed. So what exactly happened after the war was over?

Is there a way to reverse the spell or did Hermione just not exist to them after that? I dont think I could erase myself from my parents memories and then never go back, I love them too much. And from what we can see, Hermione felt the same way about her parents.

So what did she do? Just shrug them off and think ah well theyre better off? I just think its a loose end that really needed to be tied up. While some could just float into oblivion and let the fans theorize what happened, this one is too heartbreaking to think about.

The idea that her parents could live on without knowing their daughter is so sad. So why couldnt we get a little glimpse of them dropping off Ron and Hermiones kids with them? Or what about a mention of them in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child? Just some way of letting us know that her parents ended up remembering her and theyre all happy.

Did Bellatrix Kill Hermione

Bellatrix didnt kill Hermione but a real question should be WHY she didnt do that. It is well known Bellatrix tortured many Muggle-born and killed them as well, for her own amusement. At Malfoy Manor, Bellatrix had a great opportunity to kill Hermione who was literally saved by Godric Gryffindors sword.

Why Hermione Gave Her Parents New Identities

Pin by Maria Espin on Potterheadâ¡ï¸?

Before Voldemort and his followers took over the wizarding world, the Death Eaters were becoming more brazen, even attacking innocent Muggles. It was clear that they would stop at nothing to get hold of Harry and his closest allies, including Hermione. In order to keep her parents out of the war, Hermione needed to effectively wipe any information her parents had on her, her friends, and the wizarding community. In a deleted scene in Deathly Hallows – Part 1, Death Eater Corban Yaxley arrived at the Granger home in search of answers, but he found the house empty. Hermione’s actions were justified since it kept her loved ones out of the conflict.

Hermione claimed that if she survived the Horcrux Hunt and whatever came after that she would find her parents and restore their memories. Shortly after Voldemort’s defeat, she located her parents in Australia, gave them back their memories, and the trio returned to England. It’s unclear how much of the truth that Hermione told her parents, but considering the threat was gone, she may have come clean about her role in the war. Years later, Hermione married Ron, and Mr. and Mrs. Granger went on to become grandparents to the couples’ two children. They undoubtedly remained proud of their daughter’s selfless actions and for her achievement in becoming the Minister of Magic following the events of the Harry Potter series.

And Her Patronus Was Quite Revealing Too

Hermiones Patronus, a shining silver otter, was gambolling around her. They are sort of nice, arent they? she said, looking at it fondly.Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Otters, as you may know, are J.K. Rowlings favourite animal. But did you know that the otter happens to be a member of the weasel family? How fascinating when we consider Hermiones future family ties!

I voted on this orphaned otter’s name. My favourite animal named for one of my favourite characters!

Why Deathly Hallows Part 2 Is The Best

1 Taking Liberties With The Source Material Deathly Hallows Part 2 perfected those areas from the novel that couldve been made more epic. The mind easily goes to the battle between Harry and Voldemort, where the two flew all around Hogwarts and Voldemort showed us his superb power, before he met his end.

Why Didn’t Hermione’s Dentist Parents Fix Her Teeth

This one still has us scratching our heads with confusion. Hermione is a brilliant character who prefers logic over everything else, so why didn’t she have her parents fix her buck-teeth in the books considering their profession revolves around fixing teeth?

Why did she use magic to shrink them in Goblet of Fire? It just doesn’t make much sense to us. This seems a bit insulting to her parents.

Do Hermiones Parents Know She Exists

Hermione – Obliviate

After the Obliviate spell, they will NOT know who she is. unless something jogs their memory or someone has another picture of Hermione with her parents. In the books she modified her parents memory into thinking they were someone else. After the war, Hermione found them one day and restored their memories.

Hagrid Never Got Married

Tumblr

Hagrid is one of the most sincerely good characters in the entirely of the series. After a lifetime of bad luck, including losing his father as a teenager, getting expelled for false reasons, being abandoned by his mother at birth, and serving a stint in Azkaban after untrue accusations surely the lovable half-giant deserves some love, right? Not according to Rowling. After the books ended, Hagrids romance with Beauxbatons Academy headmistress, Madame Olympe Maxime, crumbled. Very depressing. On the bright side, Hagrid is still alive and kicking as Hogwarts groundskeeper in his late 80s as the second generation of Potters, Weasleys, and Grangers head off to school.

Why Doesn’t She Have More Female Friends

Throughout the series, we barely see Hermione engage with her female classmates. She sticks around with Harry and Ron, which is fine, but it would have been nice to see her befriend some women throughout her entire time at Hogwarts.

It seems odd that throughout her seven years there she rarely made any serious friendships with anyone other than Harry and Ron, especially with other female characters.

Why Did Hermione Kiss Harry

Did Hermiones Parents Know She Was A Witch

Mr and Mrs Granger were never told their first names were introduced to the wizarding world in much the same way that most Muggles are: they received a letter from Hogwarts, which revealed their daughter to be a Muggle-born witch. According to Hermione, the news came as a surprise, but her parents were supportive.

Why Didn’t She Take Advantage Of The Time Turner

Hermione was given a time turner in her third year during Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. She was instructed to only use it so she could manage to tackle multiple classes at once, yet she decided to bend the rules by using it to save Buckbeak.

That’s a sweet gesture, but why couldn’t she have taken advantage of the time turner by using it to stop more horrible events from occurring? For instance, she could have tampered with Voldemort’s reign, thus saving millions of lives rather than just the hippogriff’s.
