Daily Box Office: Ralph Is Breaking Record Books
Its Thanksgiving long weekend, which means many studios are closed and are not reporting official numbers. However, one of the studios that is reporting numbers is Disney and they are reporting record-breaking numbers. Ralph Breaks the Internet earned $18.5 million on Wednesday, which is significantly more than either Coco or Moana managed the previous two years. In fact, this is more than Frozen managed during its record-breaking wide expansion back in 2013. This films reviews are great and it earned an A minus from CinemaScore, so it should have good legs and could top Frozens $93.59 million five-day opening. In fact, some studios think it has a real chance of $100 million during its five-day opening. Im not that bullish, but even if it only earns $90 million over five-days, it will still be a monster hit and way more than we predicted. More…
Thursday Night Previews: Grindelwalds Previews Were Fantastic And Beastly
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald earned $9.1 million during previews on Thursday, which is better than Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them managed. Granted, it was better by mere percentage points, as that earlier film earned $8.75 million during its previews. Where it goes from here is a bit of a mystery. On the one hand, its reviews are much worse than the previous installments reviews were and it is a sequel. Both of those facts suggest shorter legs. However, the gap between Fantastic Beasts and the last original Harry Potter film may have resulted in a much more front-loaded run, so The Crimes of Grindelwald could benefit from that. As always, we will know better this time tomorrow when Friday estimates are out. More…
Harry Potter And The Half
Considered by many to be the best of the films, The Half-Blood Prince features a refreshingly grown-up tone and probably the most beautiful cinematography and production design in the series. Thats not a surprise given that this was the most expensive Harry Potter film, as well as one of the most expensive films ever made. The money is up on the screen, though, as the special effects are truly dazzling in this one, including an opening attack on London by Death Eaters that foreshadows Voldemorts growing power over the Wizarding World.
The Half-Blood Prince deftly balances brisk action and a foreboding tone with a light, romantic touch as the characters battle the most calamitous curse of all: Becoming teenagers.

Friday Estimates: Fantastic Dominates Charts But With Just $297 Million
As expected, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them easily earned first place on Friday. However, it only managed $29.7 million, which was well below expectations. This is the worst opening day in the Harry Potter franchise since The Chamber of Secrets. The reviews are weaker than the franchise as a whole, but its CinemaScore is an A and thats roughly average for the previous 8 Harry Potter films. The film should still earn between $70 million and $75 million over the weekend, depending on if the high CinemaScore can overcome the Fanboy Effect. I would choose to be optimistic, but that hasnt worked out this weekend. More…

The Big Picture: The Screenplays
Having read the Potter books, each one just before the movie, I can’t speak to whether the movies make much sense to those who haven’t read the books. As the series goes on and the J.K. Rowling books get longer and longer her editors, apparently, Apparated after the first couple of books the screenwriter’s job gets more and more heroic.
Steve Kloves has written for every movie except Order of the Phoenix, which was adapted by Michael Goldenberg . The movies by necessity trim much from the books you notice, watching end to end, that certain iconic characters such as Snape and McGonagall really aren’t in the movies all that much they’re just so tightly scripted and memorably played that you think you see more of them than you do. Though everyone has a favorite subplot that didn’t make it to the screen many Rowling fans were upset, for example, that Ron’s Quidditch triumphs didn’t make it into HP: OP I’m thankful to Kloves for axing the house-elf SPEW subplot. A little bit of Dobby goes a long, long way.
Weekend Estimates: Ralph Slips Still Strong Hannah Tops Expectations Still Soft
Ralph Breaks the Internet will retain top spot on the weekend box office chart with an estimated $25.8 million for a two-week total of $119.3 million. Granted, this is lower than we predicted, but not so much lower than anyone at Disney should be panicking. Internationally, the film added an estimated $33.7 million in 27 markets, lifting its international total to $87.7 million after two weeks of release. Its only major market opening of the weekend was the U.K. where it reportedly earned $5.2 million. This is less than Wreck-It Ralph opened with, but that film debuted during the school holidays, so it got a boost. Ralph Breaks the Internet should have longer than average legs thanks to Christmas, but I dont think it will match its predecessor in this market. More…
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
After raking in billions off the franchise, Warner Bros. wasnt about to close down shop and go home not if there were more stories to tell. And there were! Sort of
Rowlings Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them wasnt a novel in the Potterverse, but rather a slim illustrated compendium of magical creatures within the universe written by the fictional Newt Scamander. It would take great imagination along with an army of screenwriters to concoct a story from a book that has no proper story. But franchises have been undaunted by greater narrative obstacles . And so Newt became a flesh and blood character played by Eddie Redmayne who becomes embroiled in magical events in America 70 years before the events of the earlier series.

Thursday Night Previews: Fantastic Doesnt Quite Live Up To Its Name With $875 Million
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them pulled in $8.75 million during its midnight shows last night. Thats good, but a little lower than expected and not even the best of the fall so far. It was beaten by Doctor Strange, which earned $9.4 million just two weeks ago. Worse still, Fantastic Beasts‘ reviews have fallen to 74% positive. Thats still good for a blockbuster release, but it is the lowest in the Harry Potter franchise and will likely hurt the films box office performance over the weekend. It should still make over $80 million this weekend, but it will be close. We might have to revise that prediction lower tomorrow when we have Fridays estimates. More…
International Box Office: Grindelwald Has Quarter Billion Dollar Global Debut
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald started its international run with $191.5 million on 50,865 screens in 79 markets for a worldwide debut of $253.7 million. Its largest opening was in China, but it had to settle for second place there with $36.68 million on 22,008 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $37.53 million. It had more impressive debuts in the U.K. and in Russia . The film had the best opening in the Harry Potter franchise in 21 markets, but overall, it was only 3% ahead of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in the same markets. Its much weaker reviews will likely lead to shorter legs, but even so, it should still have no problem getting to $600 million worldwide and becoming Warner Bros. biggest hit of the year. If the next installment in the franchise falls just as much, then the studio will have reason to be concerned. More…

Weekend Predictions: Moana Takes On Beast Over Thanksgiving Weekend
Thanksgiving weekend is one of the most lucrative weekends of the year and this time around we could have a relatively close battle between a new release, Moana, and last weeks number one film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. At least thats what analysts thought, before we saw the preview numbers. None of the rest of the new wide releases are expected to do much. Allied could become a midlevel hit, but I would be surprised if its budget was only midlevel. Bad Santa 2 is on its way to becoming another comedy sequel that bombs. If Rules Dont Applys previews are any indication, it will become one of the worst box office performers of the year. This weekend last year, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 beat The Good Dinosaur rather easily. However, Fantastic Beasts started slower than Moana, so I think we will have a new winner this week. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2
The epic conclusion and the most financially successful of the Harry Potter movies was acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. In Part 2, the evil Voldemort finds corporeal form on Earth and the peoples of the Wizarding World are forced to choose sides in the final battle of good versus evil.
If both the story and the special effects are more than a tad reminiscent of Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings, nobody cared by this point. The legions of fans were happy to see their heroes triumph, and the epilogue featuring our grown heroes sending their own kids off to Hogwarts is undeniably moving.

Have A Harry Potter Movie Marathon In One Day
Now that all 8 movies are out, and theres time being at the house, lets have a movie marathon!
From Potter Talk, heres their theory on how you can watch the series in one day!
19 hrs and 40 minutes which gives us a total of:
There are 1440 minutes in one day, so can it be done? Mathematically, YES!
It would be a very long day. For the marathon to be worthy of a true Potterheads dedication, the rules would include minimal breaks and no-fast forwarding through your least favorite scenes.
What time could you start? 4:00 AMWhat time could you end? 11: 40 PM
Are extended DVD versions possible? No. The extended DVDs which includes deleted scenes into the theatrical versions adds too many minutes into the schedule and add the risk of running over 24 hours.
You can shave off a whopping extra 1 hour and 26 minutes!! How? Almost every movies end credits are 8 to 11 minutes long. So you could cut to the next movie early or use the credits as the time to stretch and take a breather. Use a stopwatch or alarm clock for breaks to make sure you dont go over.
Bathroom breaks? You take breaks to refill on snacks/drinks/go to the bathroom as the movies play as well as taking breaks in between each movie but they must be limited.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is 2 hrs and 13 minutes long. Youll just barely be able to squeeze the first film into the day if you start earlier than 4 AM. But youll be cutting it incredibly close under 24 hours.
Final Remarks On How Long Does It Take To Watch All The Harry Potter Movies
So, with this brief discussion, we were able to point out some facts about the Harry Potter series, which are discussed by the Potter Heads for years. And myself being a Harry Potter fan would love to do a Harry Potter Movie Marathon, with the extras included.
Thus, to conclude, the Harry Potter series will take a maximum of 20 hours, if you are planning to watch it as a movie marathon with your family and friends.
Though, I will suggest you split the marathon into two parts, so that you wont feel tired and sleepy in the middle of the movie marathon.
