Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince Trailer #4

Kreacher is the Black family’s house-elf, who Sirius leaves to Harry in his will, along with his family home at 12 Grimmauld Place.

This explains why Kreacher, who’s typically antagonistic toward Harry and his friends, suddenly has to follow his orders in “Deathly Hallows.” However, in the films, they don’t mention the will, so it just seems like the house-elf had a change of heart.

The 10 Most Significant ‘harry Potter’ Moments Left Out Of The Films

As everyone knows, the Harry Potter novels are a beloved series later adapted into popular high-grossing films. The biggest obstacle the film conversions had to overcome was finding room for the lengthy content of the novels in a feature-length film. Due to this time constraint, the series had to be shrunk down and several key scenes were omitted. Many of these cut scenes detract from the charm of the series but in addition, the omission of several details actually turn the films into somewhat of a confusing mess for those that didnt previously read the books. The following are the 10 most impactful moments from the novels that should have found their way into the films. It should go without saying but heavy SPOILERS to follow.

The Order Of The Phoenix Quidditch Season

The Quidditch season is removed entirely from the fifth film, which is a shame since it plays a very prominent role in the novel. The main appeal was Ron Weasley joining the team as a keeper, replacing departed captain Oliver Wood. This was a tremendous growth opportunity for Ron, one in which the character really develops and steps out of Harrys shadow. When Gryffindor wins the Quidditch Cup this year, Harry has been suspended from the team and it is Ron that carries them to victory. This triumphant character arc was sadly omitted due to time constraints, which is a real shame because it leaves Ron with less to do in the film adaptation. His growth was important for the novel and while Quidditch would return in the sixth film with Ron auditioning for the role at that point, it feels like too little, too late for his character development.

The Pets In Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban Are Supposed To Give Away Some Important Clues

In the movie, we occasionally see Hermione’s cat Crookshanks chasing Ron’s rat Scabbers, just as any cat would do. But in the books, we see more bizarre behavior including a friendship with the stray dog Harry keeps seeing.

Eventually, we learn that Crookshanks is no ordinary cat. He knew all along that Scabbers was really Peter Pettigrew in animal form and that Sirius Black was disguised as a dog. Crookshanks had even been helping Sirius get into the castle to try to capture Pettigrew.

None of this is explained in the movies, but somehow it all still works out in the end.

Barty Crouch Jr’s Big Reveal In Goblet Of Fire Probably Left Moviegoers With A Lot Of Questions

In “Goblet of Fire,” we find out that the “Mad-Eye Moody” teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts was actually escaped prisoner Barty Crouch Jr. using Polyjuice Potion .

Throughout this reveal, we find out that he’s the one who put Harry’s name in the Goblet of Fire, he helped him figure out the tasks, and he ultimately helped orchestrate his meeting with Voldemort in the graveyard at the end of the Triwizard Tournament.

What doesn’t get explained in the film is how Barty Crouch Jr. escaped from Azkaban in the first place. However, in the book we learn that he and his mother used Polyjuice Potion to swap places, leaving Mrs. Crouch to die in Azkaban.

We Have No Idea Where Harry Got The Magical Two

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) Official Trailer – Daniel Radcliffe Movie HD

In “Order of the Phoenix,” Sirius gives Harry a two-way mirror, but Harry forgets about the gift throughout the fifth book, so they never really use it to communicate.

However, this becomes really important in “Deathly Hallows” when Aberforth Dumbledore, who acquired the other part of the mirror, uses it to keep an eye on Harry and helps the trio escape Malfoy Manor.

The movies never explain that Sirius gave Harry the mirror, and viewers don’t even see it until Harry packs a broken shard of it for their journey in “Deathly Hallows – Part 1.” The significance of the magical object is not explained until later in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.”

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Two years later, it was time for the next Harry Potter movie to have the heroes step up and start to fight back. David Yates directed this film and remained with the franchise to the end. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix saw the rise of the powerful Order of the Phoenix to battle the Death Eaters, and Harry learned who his real allies were.

This was the step in Harry’s journey where he found himself betrayed, as the Ministry of Magic refused to believe Voldemort was back and left the Order to fight alone, which resulted in the death of Harry’s beloved godfather Sirius Black.

Confunded McLaggen during the Quidditch tryout

Harry, the new Gryffindor QuidditchCaptain, holds trials to select the team for the annual Quidditch Cup. Due to Harrys popularity, it proves to be extremely taxing and difficult, with even first-years, Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs turning up for the trials. In the end, Harry selects a team which includes among others, seventh-year Katie Bell, the only member remaining from the Quidditch team Harry joined in his first year, Ginny, who returned as a chaser, and Ron, who returned to his position as Keeper, staving off competition from another seventh-year and Slug Club member Cormac McLaggen. Later Harry, Ron and Hermione go visit Hagrid, who is upset at them as they had dropped his subject, Care of Magical Creatures. After lying to Hagrid that they had dropped Care of Magical Creatures as they could not fit it into their timetables, Hagrid reconciles with them. When the trio return to the Great Hall for dinner, Harry finds out that Hermione had used the Confundus Charm on McLaggen so that Ron would become Keeper, but he does not tell Ron this. Slughorn then invites Harry and Hermione for dinner with the other Slug Club members in his office, which Harry declines as he has to do his detention with Snape.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

Arguably, the top critically acclaimed movie in the franchise came in 2004 with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. While Columbus made the movie mostly about children discovering magic, and kept it solidly in the young adult genre, Alfonso Cuarón took the helm for this one and made one of the most adult films in the series.

Sirius Black, a man who was held at the horrific Azkaban prison, was introduced as Harry’s godfather, and the film changed the tone drastically into something extraordinary. Cuarón only directed one movie, but was the most acclaimed of the franchise’s directors, winning two Oscars for Best Director following this movie.

Hermione Isn’t Supposed To Know What A Mudblood Is

After Draco calls Hermione a “Mudblood” in the “Chamber of Secrets” book, she knows it’s an insult, but she doesn’t understand what it means.

Ron, however, grew up in a wizarding family and explains that the term is a “really foul name for someone who is Muggle-born.”

In the movie, Hermione knows exactly what the term means, and even explains it to Harry using Ron’s definition from the book.

The change doesn’t make a lot of sense since it’s not a term Hermione would’ve heard growing up in the Muggle world, and it’s likely not something her textbooks would mention.

Harry Never Gets His Signed Hogsmeade Permission Slip In The Movies

After trying and failing to get Vernon Dursley to sign his Hogsmeade permission slip at the beginning of “Prisoner of Azkaban,” Harry is forced to stay at school while everyone else enjoys the nearby wizard village.

The book includes a scene near the end where Harry receives a signed Hogsmeade permission slip from Sirius, who he recently discovered is his godfather and legal guardian.

However, that scene is left out of the movie, which creates some confusion in later films when he’s suddenly able to visit the village.
