Thoughts On Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 seems to be the odd one out in the film series. Obviously it is much different to the rest of the movies in terms of the setting and the atmosphere. It is the bleakest film, which takes time to build the plot leading to the finale. I also have not seen many people rate it in their top 2-3 films in the series. For me, after every rewatch, it just gets better. It is extremely well directed, the 3 main actors give their best performances in this one, their is a sense of adventure and urgency, and there are some very powerful moments in there. For example, the dance sequence, the Hermoine torture, the opening scene, Harry and Ron argument and the destroying of the Horcrux in the forest. Overall I feel as far as quality of filmmaking goes, it is in the top 2 or 3 in the series.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was the movie that showed that death was possible in the one-time children’s movie series. In this film, Harry took part in a tri-wizarding tournament that saw him battle in a series of tests to determine the school with the best young wizard.

However, that was just to move the plot along as the true importance of this movie, directed by Mike Newell, was to bring Lord Voldemort back from the dead, setting up the main villain for the rest of the series. Robert Pattinson of Twilight fame was a Hogwarts student in this movie, killed in cold blood by the Death Eaters, and Voldemort declared war on all wizards by the end of this film.

Harry Potter: Youâve sort of made up for it tonight. Getting the sword. Finishing off the Horcrux. Saving my life.

Ron Weasley: That makes me sound a lot cooler than I was.

Harry Potter: Stuff like that always sounds cooler than it really was. Iâve been trying to tell you that for years.

While Hermione sleeps, Harry resumes the position of keeping watch outside the tent. Not long after a silver doe appears. It is obviously a Patronus, due to the silvery texture and appearance.

The doe leads Harry away from the camp site and to a small, frozen lake, where, at the bottom, lies Godric Gryffindors Sword. Harry breaks the ice using Hermiones wand, strips to his underpants, and attempts to retrieve the sword. Only when he attempts does Salazar Slytherins locket sense that the sword is near, it wraps itself so tightly around Harrys neck that it cuts his flesh, keeps him from getting to the surface for air, and begins to both strangle and drown him. Harry tries to make it back to the surface, but he only kicks himself into the rocky and icy part of the pool. Harry attempts to loosen the locket but his fingers are too frozen. Harry begins to suffocate, and he feels a pair of arms wrap around his chest before passing out.

Alls fair in love and war, and this is a bit of both.

It Not Only Shows How Harry And Hermione’s Friendship Matured But How The Movies Themselves Matured

This is also the scene that cements Harry and Hermione’s status as friends. JK Rowling herself may have said that Hermione should have got together with Harry rather than Ron but this scene in the movie shows how much Hermione loves Ron.

In behind the scenes footage, Yates commented: “In the middle of that dance, they get very close and it starts to get complicated in a way. It’s friendship but it almost becomes something else. You can almost feel when they are alone together that it could slip into something that was more just friendship and that tension is really interesting.”

However, when Hermione pulls away at the end, it solidifies her love for Ron, and it’s refreshing to see a platonic friendship between a mainstream movie’s leading male and female characters rather than a romantic one.

It also shows how the movie matured with its audiences, too. The films naturally got darker as they progressed. “The Sorcerer’s Stone” and “The Chamber of Secret” are fun films that are more akin to the children’s adventure movies that director Christopher Columbus is known for. They aren’t without their snippets of scariness, but it’s only “The Prisoner of Azkaban” and “The Goblet of Fire” where “Potter” begins to head towards a dark trajectory.

Taking that into consideration, its worth splitting your Harry Potter marathon into two days rather than tackling it in one youre sure to fall asleep around The Half-Blood Prince!

Interestingly, the wonderful Prince Charles Cinema in London actually had a back-to-back Harry Potter marathon planned for May 30th 2020, but due to the current circumstances, the cinema is currently closed.

However, to give you an idea of what watching all eight films in a row looks like, the event was scheduled to begin at 8.30 pm on the 30th and end at 5.25 pm on May 31st.

When Lord Voldemort used the Elder Wand without mastering it he claimed that the wand only unleashed his regular level of magic and not the unbeatable effects it was rumoured to possess. It’s unknown if the wand would work this way for another who hasn’t mastered it though, as Voldemort has used the wands of others in the past with no handicap, it’s likely that this is his own power rather than that of the Elder Wand.

It did have one redeeming quality like all other wands, however: it refused to harm or kill its master nor those under sacrificial protection.

The final movie so far in the Harry Potter world hit theaters in 2018. This was the second movie in the Fantastic Beasts series.
