Robbie Coltrane Had Mixed Feelings About Saying Goodbye To Hagrid

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” Trailer 2

The gentle giant Rubeus Hagrid was the very first friend that Harry ever made. So what did Hagrid actor Robbie Coltrane think about the franchise coming to an end?

“We were all going, ‘Yeah, it’s gonna be tough on the kids,'” Coltrane revealed to the Radio Times regarding the sentiments of the older actors. “Then eventually we were all saying, ‘Yeah, it’s gonna be pretty tough for me too.'”

Despite feeling the pangs of separation at the prospect of saying goodbye to the franchise, Coltrane admitted he was happy to bid adieu to the bushy beard and mustache combo that the character always required him to wear. “It’s all horrible,” the actor declared, referring to the facial prosthetics. “But at the end of the day, they take it off, and then two girls come to my trailer with a pot of hot oil, they dissolve the beard, rub my face with oil.”

What Happens To Hagrid After Deathly Hallows

Rowling has provided clues into Hagrids later life after the Second Wizarding War. The epilogue at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows briefly mentioned Hagrids name. When Harry and Ginny were dropping off their son Albus at Kings Cross Station, Harry reminded Albus about Hagrids invitation for tea in his hut.

The Fantastic Beasts Screenplays

Unless you’ve been living under a rock this entire time, you’ve probably heard of the two new Wizarding World movies that have hit Hollywood in the past few years. Led by actor Eddie Redmayne and an all-star ensemble cast, the Fantastic Beasts films tell the story of Newt Scamander, Albus Dumbledore, and the dark battle against Gellert Grindelward in the blackened days before Lord Voldemort entered the scene.

Of course, you can choose to simply watch the continuation of the Wizarding World on-screen but reading the screenplays of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: the Original Screenplay and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald The Original Screenplay will undoubtedly give you that extra level of depth and insight into the characters.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson became instant stars because of the Harry Potter movies. For those new to the world of Harry, this one’s for you: a list of all the Harry Potter movies in order of their release, including the Fantastic Beast movies.

Looking Towards A Life Beyond Harry Potter

As emotional as the last days of filming “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” were, it was also a time for the young cast to look forward to a career beyond the walls of Hogwarts. As the lead of the franchise, Daniel Radcliffe faced the biggest challenge of convincing audiences that he could play something other than the Boy Who Lived.

Radcliffe himself was fully aware of the challenge, telling The Mirror, “There will be some people who always see me as this character, I know that and understand that. That’s fine. As long as they are not casting directors and filmmakers, hopefully it won’t hold me back. That’s my attitude to it.”

The actor’s career after “Harry Potter” has borne testimony to his determination to be seen as a serious actor instead of a one-hit wonder. Free of any concerns about the next paycheck, Radcliffe has branched out into indie and experimental cinema, from “Guns Akimbo” and “Swiss Army Man” to “Escape From Pretoria.”

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Set In 1926

Set over sixty years before the events of the main Harry Potter series of movies, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them presented fans of the franchise with a fair amount of hope for its future.

Taking place in New York, with a British Hufflepuff main character, the movie does not reach the heights of most main Potter films, but retained its own magic and got fans excited for what was to come from this prequel franchise. These expectations quickly got dashed, however.

The First And Last Lines Of Every Harry Potter Movie

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald came two years later, set a year after the events of Fantastic Beasts, building on the Grindelwald twist of the first film.

The movie severely disappointed Potterheads with its muddled, convoluted nature, and weak plot. Even more frustrating, for the first time on such a scale, the movie contradicts the rules of the Wizarding World, infuriating fans to no end.

This Is The Only Movie Where Harry Does Not Deliver The Final Line

It seems fitting that Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry gets the last line in each movie they are his stories, after all. But in the last ever “Harry Potter” movie, Harry doesn’t actually get to say the last line.

Instead, the last line spoken is by his son, Albus Severus Potter. After a conversation in which Harry reassures his son about which house he might be sorted into at Hogwarts, Albus says “ready,” which is ironic seeing as none of us were ready for the end of “Harry Potter.”

Watch the first and last lines of each “Harry Potter” movie below:

Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the book that started it all , Harry Potter discovers his true identity in the wee hours of his eleventh birthday: he is a wizard, famous in the magical world for having vanquished the evil Lord Voldemort when he was only a baby. This revelation, delivered by a gruff, hairy giant named Hagrid, sets Harry on a fantastical journey of a lifetime.

He meets bosom buddies Ron and Hermione aboard the Hogwarts Express, and is soon sorted with them into Gryffindor: the house of the intrepid and brave. However, Harry also makes plenty of enemies at Hogwarts, most notably the arrogant Draco Malfoy and the nasty potions master, Snape . And from battling a troll on Halloween to his first exhilarating Quidditch match not to mention the novels climax, in which Harry goes up against Voldemort for the second time in his young life theres never a dull moment in the first year of his new adventure.

Sorcerers Stone also perfectly balances exciting action with touching emotion, as Harry finds a true family in Ron and Hermione after years of misery with the Dursleys. Indeed, the books small, moving moments such as Harry being floored by a gift from Rons mother, or Hermiones tearful declaration at the end about books and cleverness are just as magical as the spells themselves.

Snape And Neville Finally Made Up

One of the most tortured relationships in the entire “Harry Potter” canon was between potions master Severus Snape and timid student Neville Longbottom . Snape was notorious for bullying Neville incessantly, with the latter shown to be deeply terrified of his teacher.

In real life, of course, Rickman was nothing like Snape. But he was still a highly accomplished and successful actor, while Lewis was trying to find his way as a budding performer. In an interview for the Inside of You podcast, Lewis admitted he used to be terrified of Rickman. He also recalled Rickman’s last day of filming, when he went to Rickman’s trailer to wish the senior actor goodbye, saying, “Hey, I know it’s your last day, and I just wanted to say this has been incredible to have worked with you for this long. I just want to say thank you for allowing me to work with you for 10 years and not ever shouting at me or treating any of us as anything less than your equal.”

Rickman’s reaction was something Neville could only have dreamed of with Snape. Rickman invited Lewis into his trailer. There, they had a cup of tea and chatted about the direction in which Lewis hoped to take his career, with Rickman freely offering his personal advice for the young actor’s benefit.

Ron’s personality shows through more in his final book line than in that of the movie. In the series epilogue, Harry, Ron, and Hermione send their children to Hogwarts nineteen years after the final battle. In the movie, Ron tells Hermione that Harry and Ginny have arrived.

In the book, however, Ron playfully jokes with his kids, claiming that the stares of the people around them were due to his fame, and not Harry’s. Since Ron was often sensitive to the attention that Harry got, this line shows that Ron can not only maintain a good sense of humor, but that he has become more comfortable with how he is perceived compared to Harry.

    Harry Potter the Last Film

The Prisoner Of Azkaban is not one of those lesser Harry Potter films, though, and again, follows the same school year to school year structure as the previous two films while also taking the entire series in a new direction.

With Alfonso Cuarón at the helm, this movie has a darker tone and begins a trend of Potter films becoming more mature and more assured in their craft. Save for that bizarre final shot, the movie is gorgeous, well-acted, and many will argue the very best of the movie series.

Throughout the series, Neville never seemed to fit the mold of a brave Gryffindor. However, by the final book and movie, he finally managed to find himself and truly live up to the Gryffindor name.

In both of his final lines, Neville courageously stands up to Voldemort, demonstrating that the fight was not over just because Harry was dead. Neville’s courage was exactly what everyone at the battle needed to hear in order to put aside their feelings at Harry’s death and continue to fight.
