Why Did Netflix Remove Harry Potter

Why isnt Harry Potter on my Netflix? Netflix can only offer certain titles if it purchases the rights to do so, and these agreements usually last for a fixed period. Unfortunately, it appears this arrangement has expired, as Harry Potter movies are slowly being removed from Netflix libraries around the world.

Oliver Wood Is Wrong About The Rules Of Quidditch In The First Film

How Long Is The 4Th Harry Potter Movie

In the film, Gryffindor Quidditch captain Oliver Wood explains the rules of the wizarding game to Harry by saying that if the seeker catches the golden snitch, that team wins.

But that’s not always true.

The book clarifies that catching the snitch ends the game and earns your team an additional 150 points, so the team “almost always wins.” But, if your team is down by more than 150 points, catching the golden snitch would actually make you lose.

Hermione Never Fixed Harry’s Glasses In The Sorcerer’s Stone Book

In “Sorcerer’s Stone” Hermione uses the “Oculus Reparo” spell to fix Harry’s glasses on the Hogwarts Express. But this goes against the rule prohibiting underage magic outside of school, which Hermione would absolutely know about from studying “Hogwarts: A History.”

The books don’t include this contradiction because Hermione doesn’t use the spell.

Harry’s glasses only need mending once, in “Chamber of Secrets,” and it’s Mr. Weasley who performs the fixing spell.

Fantastic Beasts 3 4 And 5 Plot: How Will Fantastic Beasts End

If we assume that we’re going to get three more movies of the series, here’s what was originally planned for the spin-off.

Rowling has said that the films will cover 19 years of Wizarding World history. That will take the last one up to 1945, the year that Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald and claimed the Elder Wand from him.

That was also the year that a certain Tom Riddle graduated from Hogwarts.

All that considered, it seems unlikely that the fifth movie won’t feature the climactic battle between Dumbledore and his former friend. Credence could also turn out to play an important role in their struggle, especially if the theory that Dumbledore’s sister Ariana was another Obscurial turns out to be true.

That 19-year period also covers the birth of Voldemort and the actions surrounding the creation of his first Horcruxes.

Theseus was known to be corresponding with Percival Graves, the director of magical security for the US magical government MACUSA, which put Newt’s brother in contact with Grindelwald, who had assumed Graves’s identity.

That considered, his outlook might be quite different to Newt’s. Could that put them on opposite sides of Grindelwald’s coming war?

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is set for release in UK cinemas on April 8, 2022 and in US cinemas on April 15, 2022.

The Weighing Of The Wands

  • Harry and Draco’s attempted attacks on each other with the spells Furnunculus and Densaugeo, respectively, are omitted.
  • Harry receives the letter from Sirius in the Gryffindor Tower in the book, but in the film, he receives it in the Owlery. Additionally, the owl in the film has a tendency to bite people, which the owl in the book does not do.

Harry’s First Meeting With Quirrell Is Different From The Books

I just watched the 4th harry potter movie #poterhead4ever

When Harry meets Professor Quirrell in Diagon Alley in the first book, the professor has no problem shaking his hand. But he politely refuses to make any contact with Harry in the film.

Later in the book, we learn that he was not physically connected to Voldemort when the two first met, and it was only after he failed to steal the Sorcerer’s Stone that Voldemort used his body to get into Hogwarts.

Once they were connected, Quirrell was unable to touch Harry without burning his hands, but there’s no reason he shouldn’t have been able to when they met in Diagon Alley.

Harry And Lupin Have A Meeting In His Office In The Third Book And That Becomes Important At The End Of The Series

While the rest of the third years are at Hogsmeade, Lupin and Harry have a conversation in the professor’s office. During the meeting, there’s a Grindylow in the corner of the room that Lupin had just acquired.

In the movie, however, the conversation takes place on the wooden bridge outside of Hogwarts.

This is a small, but important inconsistency because in the “Deathly Hallows – Part 1” film, Lupin still asks Harry, “What creature sat in the corner the first time Harry Potter visited my office at Hogwarts?” in an attempt to prove whether or not he was the real Harry after the Battle of the Seven Potters.

The change in location and lack of Grindylow make this question irrelevant in the films.

Harry Potter Movies In Chronological Order

Heres how to watch the Harry Potter movies in chronological order not including any movies in the works, like the three more planned Fantastic Beasts prequels. We know that the series will end with a duel between Albus Dumbledore and former BFF-turned-nemesis Gellert Grindelwald in 1945, but everything in between is currently a mystery. Below, we decided to just include everything Harry Potter-related that its possible to watch right now including the stage play, The Cursed Child.

  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
  • Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Note that outside the US, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is known as Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone.

Aside from the occasional flashback, the Hogwarts-set movies in the series follow a simple linear structure mostly thanks to Rowlings decision to use the British school calendar as a framework for her narrative. That means each of the seven books in the Potter series focus on a different school year , starting in 1991, when Harrys 11 years old.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Shows How People Can Be Manipulated

The Crimes of Grindlewald is the 2018 sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The film is especially noteworthy for its portrayal of a young Albus Dumbledore. Interestingly, a third installment recently began production but has since been delayed due to the pandemic.

Crimes of Grindlewald takes place in 1927, beginning with the dark wizard Grindelwald’s escape on route to his trial. Eventually, at the request of Dumbledore, Newt is tasked with saving Credence Barebone from the evil clutches of Gellert Grindlewald. This film explores Grindelwald’s early rise to power and shows viewers how even the kindest people were manipulated by his words.

Is It Any Good

The fourth film in the Harry Potter series tends to move steadily from plot point to plot point, ensuring that each beloved character from the novel gets at least a brief moment on screen. When Harry , Hermione , and Ron attend the Quidditch World Cup, they witness the full-on effects of sports celebrity: fans cheer and stomp their feet, magical images of the star shimmer over the crowd. The fact that the World Cup site is destroyed by Lord Voldemort’s Death Eaters hardly brings pause.

The Triwizard Tournament extends the movie’s thematic interest in celebrity. In due course, Harry is exposed to cheating and not a little bit of emotional and physical abuse . The movie makes us ask whether 14- or 17-year-old kids should have to be warriors and survivors. Harry and his friends must undergo pain, work through fear, and even decide whether to fight back or inflict pain. Growing up is a difficult transition on-screen or off, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire makes being a teen look pretty unpleasant. That being said, this film is as good as the others in the series, and kids and teens old enough to handle the scary elements will surely enjoy it.

The Quidditch World Cup

  • The Veela mascots are omitted from the film entirely, while Leprechauns as mascots was minimised heavily. Instead, the Irish National Quidditch team creates a glittering firework of a leprechaun, which is obliterated by the Bulgarian National Quidditch team flying through it.
  • The film only shows the teams entering the pitch and Fudge starting the match, with just a vague reference in the following scenes as to who “won” the match .
  • The Weasleys only stand in the normal areas and not in the Top Box, and appear to support both sides.
  • Narcissa Malfoy does not appear in the film.
  • The scene in which the Death Eaters attack the camp is slightly different:
  • In the film, the family is already awake and dancing around the tent, while in the book, they are all asleep until Arthur Weasley goes and wakes them up.
  • It was originally filmed with Arthur needing to go and wake people up.

What Parents Need To Know

Parents need to know that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has two deaths , scary creatures, some romantic yearnings, and edge-of-the-seat scenes. With each film the scariness quotient increases. This movie features fighting dragons, tortured bugs, a scary huge maze, and an underwater horror show. Young kids who don’t understand the difference between fantasy and reality should stay clear. So should kids going through an anxious time about unnamed terrors or unwanted separations, as one of the death scenes is upsetting. The action is sometimes rowdy, and camera movements/edits are aggressive, all of which increase the scary effects. One of the deleted scenes featured on the DVD shows teen couples after the Yule Ball getting caught kissing, etc., in carriages — it’s a little more sexual content than you get in the feature film.

How To Watch The Harry Potter Movies In Release Order

Reflections on the Fourth Film | Harry Potter Behind the Scenes

There are no complicated interweaving timelines to deal with if you watch the Potter movies in release date order. Its two distinct series, with an incomplete set of prequels following on from the parent franchise.

That means theres no need to introduce any kind of Star Wars-style ‘Machete Order’ just yet. But, if we get some massive revelation in Fantastic Beasts 3, 4 and 5, that may change.

Its also interesting to note that there are more Harry Potter movies than there are books, with final novel The Deathly Hallows split into two parts because there was so much story to fit in.

  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
  • Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
  • Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

Released one year after Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Chris Columbus finished up his two-film run with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Columbus had previously worked well with children as a director on films like Home Alone and a writer on Goonies. He was perfect to launch the franchise.

This second movie continued Harry’s learning and discovery of magic. It also showed what dangers he faced in the future as the past of Lord Voldemort, the main antagonist of future movies, was dealt with here. The film made $879 million and was the second highest-grossing film of 2002.

Fluffy’s Origin Story Is Wrong In The First Movie

After the kids discover Fluffy the massive three-headed dog tasked with guarding the Sorcerer’s Stone Hagrid tells them that he bought the creature from a “Greek chappie.”

This makes sense because Fluffy is believed to be inspired by Cerberus, a three-headed dog who guarded the gates of the underworld.

However, in the movie, Hagrid claims to have bought him from an “Irish feller.” The change isn’t huge, but it doesn’t make much sense either.

The Effects Of Polyjuice Potion Aren’t Consistent In The Films

When Ron and Harry use Polyjuice Potion to transform into Crabbe and Goyle in the second book, Harry’s thoughts read, “… Then he realized that his glasses were clouding his eyes because Goyle obviously didn’t need them he took them off and called, ‘Are you two okay?’ Goyle’s low rasp of a voice issued from his mouth.”

This clearly tells readers that under the effects of the potion you take on both the vision and voice of the person you’ve become. But this isn’t what we see play out in the films.

For one thing, in the second movie, Harry keeps his glasses on until Draco questions it, insinuating that he doesn’t get Goyle’s vision from drinking the potion. That also creates a discrepancy in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” when Hermione uses Polyjuice Potion to become Harry and remarks on how terrible his eyesight is.

Additionally, Ron and Harry maintain their own voices in the second movie, which is consistent with the characters who become Harry in the first “Deathly Hallows” film, but still inconsistent with the book’s description.

The inconsistencies continue when you take into account that when Barty Crouch Jr. uses Polyjuice Potion to impersonate Mad-Eye Moody in the fourth movie, his voice seemingly does transform.

The Trio Helps Hargid’s Dragon Escape In The First Book But It’s Unclear How It Happens In The Movie

The most intense Harry Potter scene we never got to see

To keep Hagrid from getting in trouble with Dumbledore, Harry, Ron, and Hermione help sneak his pet dragon Norbert out of his hut and into the Astronomy Tower. There, they are met by Ron’s brother, Charlie, who takes the dragon to Romania where he will care for it.

However, Charlie isn’t in the first movie, so that storyline was completely scrapped. Instead, Hagrid just says that the dragon was sent away to Romania after members of the Hogwarts staff found out about it.

Additionally, since Hagrid and Charlie never talk about the dragon in the movies, viewers never find out that the dragon is female, hence being renamed Norberta in the books.
