Voldemort actually wanted to kill Harry Potter because of a prophecy that claimed there was a boy whose powers will be the end of Voldemort. Voldemort was certain it was about Harry since they shared a similar past and was convinced he was his mortal enemy and his parents got in the way. So Voldemort had to kill them to get to Harry.

The abuse and neglect he endured from the Dursley family was trauma-inducing for Harry at such a young age.
What many Harry Potters fans are realizing is that his parents, Lily and James, were only 18 years old when they got married and they had Harry when they were 20. Voldemort came into the picture wreaking havoc and attempting to kill infant-aged Harry not too long after.
This means Harry’s parents were 21 years old at the time they were killed. Since Lily was such a young mom, her parents likely weren’t too old either. It’s safe to assume they were 20-30 years older than her which means they were in the age range of their forties to fifties.
Death due to “old age” is possible but not likely. James’ parents died in a manner that’s easy to understand since we know his pureblood wizarding family refused to become part of the Death Eaters group. With their prominent last name and refusal to cooperate, they naturally became somewhat of a target. The death of Lily’s parents is far more difficult to understand.

Harry Potter, the boy who lived. How old is he? He cant be more than 25 now, right? He was 17 when the series ended with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but who remembers what year that came out? To add to the confusion, the books are obviously older than the movies, which ended with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 2011.
Its turns out that Harry Potter turned 35 Friday. As Potterheads know, he also shares his birthday with English author J.K. Rowling, the creator of the beloved book-turned-movie series.
To explain why hes 35 Friday, we take a trip back in time. The first Harry Potter book was published in June 1997, and Rowling said Harry was 10 at that time. However, Rowling started to write the series seven years earlier, in 1990, which means Harry was born in 1980. The author wrote the novels to be set in the 90s, a fact most fans dont know since they became widely popular in the 2000s, and even more so after the first movie debuted in 2001.
Rowling gave an update on the wizard last year, in case anyone doubted Harrys real age. She took to Pottermore, an interactive website for Potterheads, which allows people to submerge themselves into the world of witchcraft and wizardry without leaving their houses.

James And Lily Were Head Boy And Girl In Their Seventh Year
When Hagrid first delivers Harrys Hogwarts letter to him, hes bewildered at how little Harry knows about the magical world and especially his parents. As he tells Harry how James and Lily died, he also briefly mentions that they were Head Boy and Girl in their day. Its an easy tidbit to overlook, especially since it occurs so early on in the series. However, it says a lot about their academic achievement, skill, and responsibility as students at Hogwarts.
One Head Boy and one Head Girl are chosen by the headmaster in their seventh year from the entire student body. As such, they are essentially liaisons between the professors and students at Hogwarts, often communicating school procedures and tasks to Prefects and regular students alike. Harry Potter, The Chosen One, was left an orphan at the age of one when Lord Voldemort murdered his parents on the night of October 31st, 1981. James Potter and Lily Evans both were 21 at the time of their deaths. If James and Lily were this young when they were murdered, it would be very safe to assume that their parents were still alive.
But that is not the case here. As we know that Lilys sister Petunia Dursley was the closest and likely only living relative he had after being orphaned, we know that none of his grandparents are alive at this point. Very little is known about any of Harrys grandparents, and lesser is known about the causes of their deaths.
Voldemort Tried To Recruit Them As Death Eaters
In Sybill Trelawneys prophecy about Harry and Voldemort, the Chosen One will be born to those who have thrice defied him. Since Harry was effectively chosen by Lord Voldemort, this part of the prophecy specifically refers to James and Lily Potter.
Rowling has explained the prophecy further, saying, I mean, if you’re counting, which I do, anytime you arrested one of his henchmen, anytime you escaped him, anytime you thwarted him, that’s what he’s looking for. She also goes on to explain that this was established in the very first book when Hagrid is telling Harry about his parents. James and Lily turned him down, that was established in Philosopher’s Stone. He wanted them, and they wouldn’t come over, so that’s one strike against them before they were even out of their teens.
Since Voldemort only wanted the most powerful witches and wizards on his side, he was even willing to ignore Lilys blood status as a Muggle-born just to have them both fight for him. Youd think he would have just used the Imperius Curse to make them join his side, but Snape probably would have protested for Lily at least.

Lilys Love For Harry Wasn’t The Only Thing That Kept Him Safe At The Dursleys
It’s well known that because Lily consciously sacrificed herself to save Harry, her love protected him from Voldemort’s killing curse. Instead of being Avada Kadavra-ed out of existence, Harry was only left with his lightning bolt shaped scar well, that and a piece of Voldemort’s splintered soul inside of him. Nevertheless, if it wasn’t for his mother’s love, he wouldn’t have been around to take down Voldemort years later and fulfill his destiny as The Chosen One.
Why then was Harry given to The Dursleys, when there were so many other people in his parents’ lives who could have loved him like a son? Lily’s sacrifice literally ran through Harry’s blood and would remain there throughout his life. However, even that by itself couldn’t have kept him safe at The Dursleys forever. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Dumbledore tells Harry about an additional layer of protection he placed on him before leaving him with his only blood relatives: “Your mother’s sacrifice made the bond of blood the strongest shield I could give you.” Thus, when his Aunt Petunia took him in, she sealed the bond of blood, ensuring Harry’s safety until he came of age.
History Of Voldemort And Harry Potter

How The Prophecy Resulted In The Potters’ Deaths
Nothing in Trelawney’s prophecy specifically refers to the Potter family. Yes, James and Lily had defied Voldemort three times, and their son was born in the summer, but they weren’t named in the prophecy. The prophecy could have referred to a different baby and a different family all together — the Longbottoms. Neville’s parents, Frank and Alice Longbottom, both defied Voldemort three times, and Neville was also born in July.

However, the complicated part of the prophecy is how it requires a certain level of self-fulfillment. Voldemort will mark the chosen one as his equal, meaning that in order for the prophecy to actually come true, Voldemort will select his own worst enemy. This is significant because it means that Harry isn’t chosen by destiny but by Voldemort.

Voldemort does not appear in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, although his presence and actions are felt: he once again declares war, and begins to rise to power once more. The reason I think they kept him in the dark is pretty obvious, that they hated the magic world, pretty much because of Petunia, as she was jeoulous that her sister was a witch and got admitted to Hogwarts and she didn’t and they wanted to keep Harry away from that as they didn’t want anymore of that “nonsense” and wanted to live a happy ordinary life.

Are Hagrid And Voldemort The Same Age
Because they are shown together in Hogwarts during a scene in the movies many believe Hagrid to be the same age as Lord Voldemort, however, that is not the case.
Although they attended Hogwarts during the same time Hagrid is younger. Tom Riddle was born in 1926 and Hagrid was born in 1928, which makes him 2 years younger.
The two did cross paths while in school and Tom Riddle even cause Hagrid to get expelled. After Tom Riddle opened The Chamber of Secrets many muggleborn students got harmed. This culminated in the death of Moaning Myrtle.
That year Tom riddle request to stay at Hogwarts during the summer because he did not want to return to the orphanage he grew up in. The headmaster at the time, Armando Dippet had to deny his request.

Hagrid, a third-year at the time was framed for opening the Chamber and his Acromantula pet, Aragog, was framed for the murder.
Aragog was a magical spider who Hagrid got into his possession at the time he still did not hatch. He brought it to Hogwarts to study the egg further but it hatched.
He decided to keep Hagrid as a groundskeeper at Hogwarts and to keep a closer eye on Tom Riddle, who he had ever-growing suspicions on.
