Gender Or Four Maximum Rule And The Lgbt Community

How to play Quidditch in real life

Since its inception, quidditch has sought gender equality on the pitch. One of the most important requirements within the sport is its ‘four maximum’ rule:

A quidditch game allows each team to have a maximum of four players, not including the seeker, who identify as the same gender in active play on the field at the same time. The gender that a player identifies with is considered to be that player’s gender, which may or may not correspond with that person’s sex. This is commonly referred to as the “four maximum” rule.USQ accepts those who don’t identify within the binary gender system and acknowledges that not all of our players identify as male or female. USQ welcomes people of all identities and genders into our league.

US Quidditch, “Four Maximum Rule”

In 2013, US Quidditch created Title 9+34, a branch of the IQA that actively promotes advocacy and awareness as well as gender equality and inclusivity, whose role moved on to the IQA under its “Initiatives”. The sport has also been illustrated to yield a positive experience for athletes of all genders, increased desires for inclusivity and stereotype reduction. Testimonials include: “The gender rule makes playing safe for me. I’m trans and genderqueer, two reasons I never know which team to join … so having a non-binary option means I don’t have to choose.”

What Equipment Is Used To Play Quidditch

To play quidditch you will need hoops, a quaffle, three bludgers, and broomsticks for all the players. The hoops are typically made of plastic and can be purchased online or homemade. A quaffle is simply a deflated volleyball while the bludgers are kickballs. The broomstick doesn’t have to be a broomstick, and it just needs to be a rod of some sort.

The Rich Have A Huge Advantage

As you can imagine, broomsticks are crucial in this sport. The better your broom, the faster you can fly, letting you score/defend goals, avoid Bludgers, and of course, catch the Snitch. You can possess all the skill in the world, but if you’re not among the wizarding elite, you’ll be lagging behind on your Cleansweep as some rich chap zooms ahead on his Firebolt or Nimbus.

Presumably, this isn’t a problem in the Quidditch World Cup, where professional teams should have enough funds to outfit themselves with top gear, but in the casual matches of Hogwarts, players supply their own brooms, giving the wealthy a large advantage.

How Harry Potter’s Quidditch Turned Into A Money

Quidditch is no longer a fantasy game found only in the Harry Potter books and films, thanks to a real-life adaptation that has created a cottage industry for sports equipment providers and event organizers.

Since 2005, the game’s adaptation has spread to more than 200 college, community and professional teams across the U.S., involving more than 4,000 players. It’s a full contact, co-ed sport that uses equipment like brooms, hoops and headbands, as well as balls called quaffles, bludgers and a snitch.

For Muggles who may be unfamiliar with Quidditch, the game was invented by British author J.K. Rowling for her Harry Potter fantasy series. At the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry Potter and his wizardly friends play the complex game while flying on broomsticks.

But how do you play Quidditch without flying? Real-life Quidditch players run across fields similar to rugby or soccer players but with broomsticks held between their legs. They follow the rules set out by the US Quidditch, which closely adheres to description of the game in Rowling’s books. A distinctive feature of Quidditch is that its rules require competitors of multiple genders be on the field of play at all times.

The uniqueness of the sport, combined with the popularity of the books, is creating some business opportunities.

“This really adds to the small-town charm of your city,” Dugie said. “There tends to be a warm and friendly atmosphere around the games.”

Does Katie Leung Play League Of Legends

Some actors and actresses fully immerse themselves in a role and even go the mile by reading all the books, playing all the games, and consuming all content related to their character. However, Katie Leung has yet to play the champion, Caitlyn, in League of Legends.

Quite a few people have asked if have I played Caitlyn. No, I havent, the Arcane voice actor admitted. When they sent me the scripts, thats when I really got to know the world. Prior to that, I hadnt really done any research.

However, Leung was already familiar with League of Legends because her brother plays the game.

I remember telling him , the Harry Potter actress gleefully shared. I was getting off the car, and he was getting super excited, like way more than me. So eventually when I told him he was kind of over the moon for me.

Unknown to many, Katie Leung and her brother Johnny Leung grew up and bonded as big gamer siblings.

We played every game console growing up because its just me and him and so weve had every console under the sun, she revealed to ONE Esports. But then you know you reach a certain age and then you kinda stop playing.

One of the recent video games that Katie Leung played was the chaotic couch co-op cooking game Overcooked. It seems like shes adding League of Legends next to her gaming list.

I know is something that Id really get addicted to if I start playing, so Im looking forward to it when I do, said the Arcane voice actor .

Is ‘harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ Running Time Too Long

Some fans can’t get enough of the “Happy Potter” franchise. This includes the movies, books, and the stage production. But “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” has a running time of 5 hours and 15 minutes and is broken up into two different staged parts. Some argue that’s entirely too long, but “The Cursed Child” has been earning rave reviews ever since it opened in London in July 2016. Now the play is on Broadway! But can you sit through a two-part play?

Why care about the length of “The Cursed Child”? If the play is good then the play is good. And many theatre critics and theatre-goers have been raving about the series for three years. Variety‘s Matt Trueman wrote:

It is, quite simply, spellbinding: The Show That Lived Up to Expectations â and Then Some. Three years after J. K. Rowling announced her boy wizard would hit the stage, âHarry Potter and the Cursed Childâ â no mere rehash, but a whole new chapter â proves a proper theatrical blockbuster. Not just at the box office, but onstage as well: a captivating story given a spectacular staging and â Rowlingâs specialty â a big, big heart. Twenty years ago, Harry Potter turned a generation onto reading. âThe Cursed Childâ could do the same for theater.

While some fans really aren’t feeling the length of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” others don’t like the play or book at all.

What Muggle Sports Would Hogwarts Students Play

X-Play – Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup review
Fun, Humor, News, Opinion

One of the biggest issues I have with the wizarding world is its apparent lack of sports. The only sport ever mentioned is Quidditch, bar wizard chess. Dont get me wrong, Quidditch is awesome, and I personally would definitely be trying out for the school team. But say youre a witch or wizard who just isnt good at Quidditch, youre automatically resigned to just being a spectator your whole life. Or maybe you are decent at Quidditch and you really enjoy it, but you just happen to be the 8th best person in your house. So then you just have to sit and watch while trying to improve or hoping someone gets hurt so you can step in.

It seems unfair that most students arent getting a chance to be active or be a part of a team while in school, two things that are very import parts of childhood. Plus it really seems hard to believe that a entire society of people could be satisfied to only ever have one sport to play in school, or one professional sport to watch as an adult, especially when Muggles have so many sports to choose from and many Hogwarts students are from muggle backgrounds!

So what if our favorite Harry Potter characters had grown up in the Muggle world with us? I have a feeling a lot more of them would be playing sports. So I took each characters personality, physical appearance , and lifestyle and matched them with the Muggle sport that seems most fitting.

Harry Really Didnt Play That Many Quidditch Matches At Hogwarts

We all know that Harry Potter was an amazing Quidditch player, so its surprising to think that he only actually played nine matches during his time at Hogwarts. Of course, he could have played more if he hadnt been stuck in detention, or in the hospital wing, or there wasnt a Basilisk roaming the school Petrifying students .

But in the matches that he did play, he was hugely successful. In fact, when Harry played he only ever lost two games, and both times it was due to circumstances beyond his control fainting after Dementors went into the Hogwarts grounds without permission, and that very unfortunate incident when Cormac McLaggen knocked him out with a Beaters bat.

Despite his success at Hogwarts, Harry never went on to pursue a career in the game. Who knows: if he had, he could have ended up teaming up with Oliver Wood once again, who went on to play for Puddlemere Uniteds reserve team after finishing Hogwarts. Although that sounds considerably more stressful than what Harry actually did as a career going after Dark wizards as an Auror and then becoming Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Films And Video Games

Quidditch appears in five of the eight Harry Potter films. Some Quidditch subplots, such as Ron’s Keeper storyline in Order of the Phoenix, were cut to save time in the films. Video games that feature Quidditch include:

In the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the Islands of Adventure theme park, Quidditch is featured near the end where riders are flown through the Quidditch pitch. A storefront near Ollivanders Wand Shop is themed as a Quidditch supply with a Golden Snitch on the sign and a case containing animated Quaffle and Bludgers surrounded by Beaters’ bats.

10 Reasons Why Quidditch From Harry Potter Is a Terrible ...

Based on this article’s title, you might think I despise the wizarding world’s Quidditch sport. Not at all I’m impressed by J.K. Rowling’s imagination and complexity of rules with her crafted broomstick battles. That said, Quidditch contains several glaring faults that would make it insufferable to both players and fans.

But first, a refresher on how the game works. Teams consist of seven players, each mounted on flying broomsticks. Three Chasers are assigned to throw the Quaffle ball through the opposing team’s three hoops , earning 10 points when successful. One Keeper defends these hoops. Two Beaters wield bats to knock the violent Bludger balls away from teammates and towards rivals. Finally, a single Seeker pursues the elusive Golden Snitch, and catching it ends the game while earning 150 points for their team. So, where does the system fall apart? Here are ten inescapable hazards with Quidditch!

Players Can’t Switch Out

Now, this is contradicted by the info given in Goblet of Fire regarding a World Cup game that lasted three months, forcing players to swap out frequently. However, as the first World Cup was in 1473, and the official Ministry of Magic guideline detailing this rule wasn’t issued until 1750, it’s possible that switching was perfectly legal.

Either way, according to the 1750 statement, “No substitution of players is allowed throughout the game, even if a player is too injured or tired to continue to play.” I suppose the intent is to make getting injured by a well-timed Bludger all the more devastating, but it still seems an odd ruling, especially given how long matches can last.

How Much Does Quidditch Equipment Cost

If you wanted to, you could use homemade items, but for the sake of showing the max cost of the sport we’ll total all of the prices for the equipment needed.

  • Quidditch Rings – $100
  • Headbands – $5
  • Brooms – $25

With quidditch it is probably a good idea to substitute some of these items to minimize the cost. The rings can be made by mounting a hula hoop on a rod. The quaffles and bludgers can be changed to any available sports ball. The snitch sock is just a tennis ball inside of a sock, and brooms can be just a stick or a plastic rod.

Harry Potter And League Of Legends Fandoms Will Soon Unite In Arcane

Muggles, what do the Harry Potter movie and the Arcane television series have in common?

Aside from having the amazing Katie Leung as part of its cast, at the heart of both series is magic, channeled through Hextech technology for the latter.

Leung highly believes expectations are just a recipe for disaster, which is why shes not really expecting anything on the union of the Harry Potter and League of Legends fandoms.

Id be curious to see what happens if those two fandoms collide in any way, said the Arcane voice actor. It might be weird or wonderful. So yeah, lets see.

Arcane will premiere exclusively on streaming platform Netflix this November 7 in three acts, with the following release dates.

All times and days are in GMT+8.

  • Act 1 November 7, 10:00 a.m.
  • Act 2 November 14

Quidditch Lifts Off And Leaves Harry Potter Behind

Calls grow for quidditch to be considered for the Olympics

The Nike-clad coach barked out the words as they appeared on the screen: Rules! Opponents! Officials! Teammates! Self! Her audience was still attentive more than an hour into her presentation. They soaked it up as she encouraged them to prove themselves, to be what they knew they could be: athletes.

Athletes, with coaches and referees and rule books and tryouts and fans. But also with brooms. And a guy who runs around as if he is a magical flying ball. No capes though they tossed that idea years ago, they promise.

Welcome to the third annual conference of the International Quidditch Association, held recently in Washington DC.

Quidditch, of course, is a game invented by JK Rowling and detailed in her seven Harry Potter novels. In the game, wizards fly on brooms to score points by catching, throwing and shooting balls through elevated hula hoops.

Adapted by Muggles at Middlebury College in Vermont in 2005, the phenomenon has grown to include more than 4,000 players on 300 teams around the world, mostly based at colleges and universities.

The game is typically played on a 30-by-48-metre field on which athletes run with brooms or PVC pipes between their legs, throw volleyballs or dodgeballs at each other and through hoops. Scoring is complex, and the highest-value manoeuvre involves catching a human embodiment of the “snitch”, who sprints around the field of play.
