All The Harry Potter Movies In Release Order

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone | Full Movie Preview | Warner Bros. Entertainment

The Harry Potter franchise kicked off in 2001 with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, which was an immediate hit and began a decade of films starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Tom Felton and many more.

Warner Bros. rejuvenated the series in 2016 with the prequel adaptation Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, based on J.K. Rowlings short book of the same name and following the misadventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander . That movie spurred three films so far, with screenplays by Rowling herself and a story that follows the rise of Gellert Grindelwald

Heres how to watch all the Harry Potter films in release order.

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, John Hurt, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, David Thewlis, Julie Walters.

And here it is: the great conclusion to the franchise released exactly 10 years after the firm film. Emotional and intense, the second part of The Deathly Hallows delivers an epic battle between good and evil as Harry faces down Voldemort one last time. Less said about the CGI ageing in that final scene, the better, if you ask us.

Is It Better To Watch The Harry Potter And Fantastic Beasts Movies In Chronological Or Release Order

It depends on your familiarity with the material, although its worth noting that even though the Fantastic Beasts movies come first in the chronology, those films follow the stories of adults in the Wizarding World in contrast to following children in the Harry Potter films. Plus, the earlier Harry Potter films are more like kids movies if youre looking to watch something with the entire family. On the whole, the series makes more sense to watch in release order, but if you know these movies like the back of your hand, watching chronologically is a fun exercise.

Design And Special Effects

Judianna Makovsky served as the costume designer. She re-designed the Quidditch robes, having initially planned to use those shown on the cover of the American book, but deemed them “a mess.” Instead, she dressed the Quidditch players in “preppie sweaters, 19th-century fencing breeches and arm guards.” Production designer Stuart Craig built the sets at Leavesden Studios, including Hogwarts Great Hall, basing it on many English cathedrals. Although originally asked to use an existing old street to film the Diagon Alley scenes, Craig decided to build his own set, comprising Tudor, Georgian and Queen Anne architecture.

Columbus originally planned to use both animatronics and CGI animation to create the magical creatures, including Fluffy. Nick Dudman, who worked on Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, was given the task of creating the needed prosthetics, with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop providing creature effects. John Coppinger stated that the magical creatures that needed to be created had to be designed multiple times. The film features nearly 600 special effects shots, involving numerous companies. Industrial Light & Magic created Lord Voldemort‘s face on the back of Quirrell, Rhythm & Hues animated Norbert and Sony Pictures Imageworks produced the Quidditch scenes.
