Does Harry Potter Win The Goblet Of Fire

Don't Miss

Hogwarts Has Won The Cup 63 Times And Beauxbatons 62 Times

Triwizard Tournament | Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Although Durmstrang can’t boast any Triwizard Tournament wins, Hogwarts and Beauxbatons never seemed to have that problem. In fact, the schools seem to be so equal when competing for the Triwizard Cup, the amount of wins is virtually the same. Over the course of the tournament’s history, Hogwarts won the cup 63 times, and Beauxbatons falls just behind it with 62 wins.

It’s also interesting to note that before the 1994 Tournament, the two schools were at a tie with wins.

This makes it somewhat unfair that the Tournament truly came to an end after both Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory won. Because there were two champions that year coming out of Hogwarts, that gave the school a fifty percent chance of winning.

This gave Hogwarts the slight edge it needed to ultimately best Beauxbatons and Durmstrang in the Triwizard Tournament.

The Hat of the Leprechauns

After arriving and setting up their tents at a wizard campsite, Harry, Ron, and Hermione witness international members of the wizarding community while getting water. As the older Weasley children arrive and the group makes lunch, they meet Ludo Bagman, the match commentator and head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports and the man who got them their tickets. During their talk, against their father’s wishes, Fred and George make a bet with Ludo: their entire life savings and a fake wand that Ireland will win, but the Bulgarian SeekerViktor Krum will catch the Golden Snitch. Arthur also asks Bagman if they found Bertha Jorkins yet.

Percy’s boss, Barty Crouch, head of the Department of International Magical Co-operation then arrives looking for Bagman, though he has to shush Bagman when he starts to talk about a big event coming up at Hogwarts. Later that night, after getting some souvenirs, the group heads to the match.

Cedric Diggory’s Fate Permanently Ended The Tournament

Barty Crouch, Sr. and everyone involved in reviving the tournament knew the risks that the tournament presented. So did the students who entered. As Dumbledore states, these are “Three extremely dangerous tasks.” However, no amount of precautions could have prepared everyone for what the 1994 Tournament would bring.

Cedric Diggory’s death hung like a shadow over the school. He was a worthy champion for Hogwarts even more so than Harry, because the Goblet of Fire actually chose Cedric. Lord Voldemort’s plan put the champions at an even greater risk. Ultimately, Cedric paid the price.

If the 1994 Tournament had not taken place, Cedric would probably be alive.

His death marked the end of the Triwizard Tournament for good, with no hope for another revival in the future.

Telling Cedric About The Dragons

After learning from Hagrid that the first task is going to pit the Champions against dragons, Harry finds a way to tell Cedric about it, so he won’t be totally unprepared. He knows that both of the other schools are going to be aware of the task ahead of time, and he isn’t comfortable with the idea that Cedric would be the only one going in ‘blind’ to the challenge.

On the surface, this is a good decision purely because it is the right and fair one – Harry knows that it is simply the right choice. Beyond that, though, this has a knock-on effect. Later, Cedric tells Harry about how to open the Egg for the next clue, something that he would likely not have done if he wasn’t paying back this original favor.

Trying To Rescue All The Hostages

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Hindi) (VCD)

During the second task, Harry makes the extremely noble decision to try and rescue all the hostages, not just Ron, – despite the fact that they aren’t all his. At the time, Harry himself thinks that this was a stupid decision – he berates himself for not realizing that the organizers wouldn’t let the tournament kill off the hostages, and his decision meant a lot of lost time!

However, in the end, this was a good choice. It proves Harry’s good nature, and his heroic spirit – and because Dumbledore found out about his actions, it actually led to him getting some extra points for his efforts! While this may not have been the most self-serving choice, it was clearly the best one he could have made.

The fire in the goblet had just turned red again. Sparks were flying out of it. A long flame shot suddenly into the air, and borne upon it was another piece of parchment… And then Dumbledore cleared his throat and read out – Harry Potter.

The students sit down at their tables , and the Welcoming Feast begins. Hagrid, Ludo Bagman, and Barty Crouch all arrive late. After the feast, Dumbledore announces that Bagman and Crouch, who helped organise the tournament, will also serve as judges alongside the three headmasters to evaluate the Champions’ performances. Dumbledore then announces that the three champions will be chosen by the Goblet of Fire, an enchanted artefact. Students must drop their names into the Goblet, and the Goblet chooses the most worthy entrants to compete in three dangerous tasks. Dumbledore finishes by stating the champions will be selected the following night during Hallowe’en. On the way out, the Durmstrang headmaster Karkaroff gives Harry a look of displeasure before Moody forces him to move along. The Goblet is placed in the Great Hall and an Age Line is drawn around the Goblet to prevent underage students from submitting their names.

Would Survive: Tom Riddles Determination To Escape Death Makes Him A Top Contender

Even without his magic and Horcruxes, Tom Riddle would have excelled in something like the Squid Game. Highly intelligent and cunning, Tom is above all else determined to survive. His original decision to create Horcruxes may have been influenced by the devastation of World War II, but the deaths in the Squid Game would have a similar effect. Toms charisma would easily allow him to form a team that would follow him and he may even be able to guess some of the games beforehand. All things considered, he would be a top contender for winning the game.

The Weighing Of The Wands

Before the champions jump into the arena to fend off dragons or chase cockatrices, it would be helpful to know that they have a fully-functional wand. After all, wands are known to break from time to time .

Before the start of the first task, each competitor must submit their wands for testing in a ceremony called, the “Weighing of the Wands.” This is a customary part of the Triwizard Tournament. Mr. Ollivander, the wandmaker who helped Harry select his Holly and Phoenix-feather wand, conducted the short ceremony. He examined each of the four wands for any physical damage. Then he tried casting a spell with each to make sure the wand could perform adequately.

Luckily for the champions, the wands all passed Ollivander’s inspection.

The next morning, the group quickly departs the campsite and arrives at the Burrow, where a worried Mrs Weasley greets them. Mrs Weasley shows them the Daily Prophet article covering last night’s attack, which is filled with some inaccurate details penned by Rita Skeeter, a journalist well known for her heavily negative stories. This forces Mr Weasley to head to the Ministry with Percy to straighten things out, as he is indirectly mentioned in the article.

Heading into Ron’s room, Harry tells Ron and Hermione about his scar hurting and his letter to Sirius, as well as the dream. The three remark on how strange it is that Harry’s scar hurt so soon before the Dark Mark appeared for the first time in thirteen years.

On the final day before they are to return to Hogwarts, Harry hears that the Ministry of Magic has come under heavy fire for failing to stop the riot at the Quidditch World Cup or arrest any of the culprits because of Rita Skeeter’s article. Mr Weasley mentions that Rita is also attacking the Ministry because of the disappearance of Bertha Jorkins. Meanwhile, Ron is dismayed by his hideous hand-me-down dress robes, which he will need to wear at Hogwarts for a formal occasion later in the year.

Voldemorts Plan To Kill Harry Potter

A prophecy given to Albus Dumbledore by Sybill Trelawney predicted the fall of Lord Voldemort, saying that the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies, and the famous line either must die at the hand of the other, for neither can live while the other survives. Part of the prophecy made it Voldemorts ears, who felt threatened and went after those he believed the prophecy was referring to. At the time, there were two candidates: Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom. Voldemort went after Harry, possibly because they had a similar family heritage, with both being half-bloods .

The Weird Sisters Are Real

Even in the wizarding world, adults will notice, school dances are subject to the same stuffy, tried-and-true traditions as they are in the non-magical realm. But then, after the Triwizard competitors and their dates open the dance floor with a ceremonial ballroom dance to a live orchestra, the true party can begin. As has been teased through the movie to this point, Hogwarts, as the premier school for spell-casting children in English-speaking Europe, had the pull to bring in for the Yule Ball, the Weird Sisters, said to be the most wildly popular wizard rock band going.

Older viewers may recall a local band of renown or a garage band made up of fellow students playing their old school dances, but in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” this is akin to a British high school in the ’60s landing the Beatles, or a British high school in the ’90s landing an act at the level of Pulp or Radiohead. In fact, as music-interested viewers of this film will notice, members of those bands make cameos, singing and playing their instruments in character as the Weird Sisters. The lead singer and bassist are Jarvis Cocker and Steve Mackey of Pulp, respectively, while the main guitarist and drummer are Radiohead’s lead guitar player and drummer Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway. Their songs, “Do the Hippogriff” and “Magic Works,” sound much like canonical, real-world Britpop tunes.

Wouldnt Survive: Peter Pettigrews Cowardice Set Him Up For Failure

Originally one of James Potters closest friends, Peter Pettigrew becomes the Secret Keeper of the Fidelius Charm protecting James and Lilys home. Becoming Voldemorts spy, he gives away James and Lilys location, leading to their deaths. In the wake of the Dark Lords fall, he goes into hiding and spends years disguised as a rat. Despite being sorted into Gryffindor, theres next to nothing about Peter that is brave or noble.

His weak, cowardly personality is what makes him turn on his friends in the first place, and even among the Death Eaters, he isnt respected. Peter would likely panic so during the first stage, Red Light Green Light, and attempt to flee. Naturally, it wouldn’t work and he would meet an ignoble death.

Chapter 2: The Unexpected Task

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire dvd cover
A week ago, Harry would have said finding a partner for a dance would be a cinch compared to taking on a Hungarian Horntail. But now that he had done the latter, and was facing the prospect of asking a girl to the ball, he thought he’d rather have another round with the Horntail.

Ron “enchanted” by Fleur Delacour

After a Transfiguration class, McGonagall tells her students about the Yule Ball, a formal event that is scheduled for 25 December and is open to fourth years and above . They gather in a spare classroom to practise for the ball and Ron is forced to practise dancing with McGonagall. She tells Harry privately that he and his dance partner will start off the event alongside the other champions and their dates as a traditional part of the Triwizard Tournament.

Over the next few weeks, both Ron and Harry unsuccessfully attempt to find dates as they get through the final classes of the term. Fred and George are also acting suspiciously again they want to borrow Pigwidgeon to deliver a letter to someone, but Pigwidgeon is not back yet . Harry later works up his courage and asks Cho to go to the dance with him, but learns that she had already agreed to go with Cedric. This information sours Harry’s relationship with Cedric.

Would Survive: Ron Weasleys Strategic Mind And Occasional Disloyalty Are A Lethal Combination

Ron Weasley is Harry Potters best friend and has stood by his side since his first confrontation with Voldemort at Hogwarts. But the two havent always seen eye to eye. On more than one occasion, Rons jealousy over Harrys fame and his own inferiority complex have made him turn his back on his friend. The most notable instance is arguably when Ron leaves Harry and Hermione behind during the Horcrux hunt.

Ron is by no means a bad person, but this side of his could be lethal in the Squid Game. Hes also far more intelligent than he seems, his expertise at chess revealing a budding strategic mind. Between that, and his occasionally reckless temperament, Ron could very easily stumble into a win. Of course, this would be a pyrrhic victory at best, as the guilt would ultimately consume him.

Ron Calls Out Viktor Krum’s Less

As older viewers with a bit more life experience and emotional intelligence will recognize, Ron’s lousy attitude and nasty mood at the Yule Ball is caused by romantic confusion and frustration, to the point where he won’t even hit the dance floor with his date for the evening, Padma Patil. Ron clearly wanted to go with Hermione, and Hermione wanted to go with Ron, and all that comes out in their confrontation, which begins with an exchange that’s also full of euphemisms to adult subject matter that play just fine in a family-friendly movie like “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” First, an irritated Hermione asks Ron, “What’s got your wand in a knot?” That’s their phallically-centered version of “What’s got your panties in a twist?” or another such slightly off-color phrase.

After Hermione tells Ron that by attending the Yule Ball with Viktor Krum, she’s merely participating in the Trizward Tournmanet’s spirit of “international magical cooperation,” Ron crudely quips that Krum, so much older and more mature than the other wizards and witches to the point where he plays professional-level quidditch, has “more than friendship on his mind.” Ron implying that Viktor intends to have his way with Hermione causes her to storm off.

Extra Precautions Were Put In Place For The 1994 Tournament

Part of the reason people in the wizarding community were hesitant to bring back the tournament at all was because the death toll got so high.

Given what happened in 1792, many weren’t sure if the tournament was worth the risk.

When Barty Crouch, Sr. organized the 1994 Triwizard Tournament, he and those involved decided that they needed to take extra precautions this time to ensure that fewer students were at risk of harm. This included setting an age limit so no student under the age of seventeen would be allowed to compete. Before this point, people Harry’s age were allowed to put their name in the Goblet of Fire. Some people, like Fred and George Weasley, tried to get around this rule.

Of course, these extra steps didn’t stop tragedy from striking. They also didn’t prevent Harry, a fourteen year old at the time, from competing.

Voldemort to Wormtail

Peter Pettigrew making the potion for Lord Voldemort

Just as Harry and Cedric are trying to figure out what happened, a stranger appears and Harry’s scar begins hurting again. A second voice orders the stranger to kill Cedric, which he does, leaving Harry frozen with shock and horror. Harry is then dragged to a large marble tombstone with the name Tom Riddle engraved upon it. The stranger then tightly binds Harry to it with thick black cords from arm, wrists, legs, neck to ankle, and has him gagged.

Unable to escape, Harry recognises the stranger as Peter Pettigrew due to the missing finger on his right hand. He also notes that Pettigrew is carrying what appears to be a deformed infant. Pettigrew takes some of Harry’s blood, bone dust from Tom Riddle Snr’s grave, and puts them in a cauldron. He then cuts off his own right hand, at the orders of the strange creature, and places it in a cauldron. The creature is revealed to be none other than Lord Voldemort himself, and the potion made by Pettigrew returns him his powers stronger than before.
