Illustrated editions of Harry Potter companion books, also written by J.K. Rowling for charity, were published in previous years. The Tales of Beedle The Bard released as editions illustrated by Chris Riddell and Lisbeth Zwerger in 2018, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them released as an edition illustrated by Olivia Lomenech Gill in 2017. Both books are now also available in paperback. The illustrated edition of third companion book, Quidditch Through The Ages, written by J.K. Rowling and illustrated by Emily Gravett, will be released in October 2020.

However, another survey by Scholastic and Yankelovich, The Kids and Family Reading Report, suggests that boys are more likely than girls to have read Harry Potter. One possible explanation the report gives for this is that according to Scholastic a majority of boys they questioned said it is important to read Harry Potter to feel in with their friends . This report states that 57% of boys have read the series whereas only 51% of girls interviewed have.

Bloomsbury has confirmed to us that the Illustrated Edition of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, with artwork by the great Jim Kay, will be published on October 11th, 2022. Both editions, the regular edition and the deluxe edition, will be published on the same day. Bloomsbury will share more news about the fifth book in the illustrated series very soon.

Jim Kay illustrated the first four books in the Harry Potter series so far, withHarry Potter and the Philosophers Stone being published back in 2015. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was published in 2016, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in 2017. The fourth one, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was published in 2019.

In 2021, Bloomsbury and Scholastic published Harry Potter: A Magical Year, a gift book celebrating the art of Jim Kay, including 366 illustrations that Kay did for the first four books, including never seen before sketches and more.
