Chapter 2: Rita Skeeter’s Scoop

Ron and Hermione decide to put last night’s argument behind them. Hermione isn’t too surprised when she learns that Hagrid is a half-giant, as she suspected this all along. Meanwhile, Harry is reluctant to take Cedric’s advice due to his jealousy about Cho.
A substitute teacher, Professor Grubbly-Plank, teaches the first Care of Magical Creatures of the year. Draco Malfoy shows Harry that Rita Skeeter had published a nasty story about Hagrid and his giant heritage this has apparently driven Hagrid into hiding. This raises some questions between the trio, as nobody else heard Hagrid talking privately with Madam Maxime that night and Rita is supposed to be banned from Hogwarts.
The trio go to Hagrid’s cabin and, along with Dumbledore, try to persuade him to return. They point out that not everyone has abandoned Hagrid, and that everyone has secrets in their pasts. After Dumbledore leaves, Hagrid remembers his late father telling him never to be ashamed of what he is and gets over his depression. He gives his support to Harry in the Tournament, believing that if Harry wins, he could show everyone they do not have to be ashamed of what they are. This is enough to convince Harry to put aside his pride and take Cedric’s advice.
Who Killed Barty Crouch
Barty Crouch Jr, his son who escaped the Azkaban prison with the help of his father, killed Barty Crouch. Barty Crouch Jr is a death eater and was on a mission to send Harry Potter directly to Lord Voldemort. So, when his father found out that it was him in disguise as Mad-Eye Moody, he couldnt risk the possibility of the mission being compromised.
Dumbledore’s Reaction To Harry Putting His Name In The Goblet Of Fire
Fans love to make fun of Dumbledore’s over-the-top reaction to Harry putting his name into the Goblet of Fire. He runs toward Harry, grabs him by the shoulders, and accusingly shouts at him.
This is a stark contrast to Dumbledore calmly asking this question in the book. It’s a strange moment in the film, as it blatantly contradicts Dumbledore’s normally composed, compassionate, and calculated personality.

Chapter 2: The Madness Of Mr Crouch

After sending Hedwig with the letter to Percy, the trio heads to the kitchen to give Dobby the socks Harry bought for him. They find that Winky has become intoxicated from consuming a large amount of butterbeer . It doesn’t help when Harry mentions that Mr Crouch has disappeared.
Hate mail soon starts popping up for Hermione in regards to Rita Skeeter’s article. She has to go to the Hospital Wing due to a curse and doesn’t turn up until a Care of Magical Creatures lesson, where Hagrid is having them use Nifflers to find gold coins he buried. Hagrid encourages Hermione to ignore the hate mail, citing the hate mail he received after Skeeter released the article about him. Hermione decides to discover how Skeeter has been getting her information when she is already banned from school grounds.
Ron Is Ancillary To The Plot
He’s one of the best characters in Harry Potter, but it has to be said that Ron isnt always particularly well-served by the books in which he appears. This is particularly true in this one, where he spends the majority of the novel being an even more ancillary plot point than usual.
In fact, when he isnt busy being mad at Harry for having his name put in the Goblet of Fire, Ron exists mostly to give Harry something to rescue. It would have been nice to see him having something meaningful to do in his own right rather than just being an afterthought.

The Wand Connection Is Overly Sentimental
Of all the many wands that appear in Harry Potter, those that belong to Voldemort and Harry are the most important. This book reveals that they share an even more powerful connection than either of them had realized, and when they duel in the graveyard, it creates a force that allows Harry to see and talk to his parents.
On a first read, this is all heartfelt and touching. A reread, however, reveals that this is a scene that has far too much sentimentality to feel real. It feels as if Rowling just needed another excuse to allow Harry to see his parents, and she painted Harry into an inescapable corner, so she resorted to a deus ex machina mechanism to save him.
Harry And The Imperius Curse
On the third day of term, Harry has a rather peculiar Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson. It involves the Gryffindor student having the Imperius Curse performed on him by Barty Crouch Jr., who is, of course, posing as Alastor Moody. Not just once, either, but four whole times.
In the book, when Voldemort puts the Imperius Curse on the Boy Who Lived, the book says “for the third time in his life.” However, hes already had it placed on him five times by this point – with the majority of them being done by Moody/Crouch in front of other students and the other by the Dark Lord himself. Therefore, it would have been better if Rowling had actually made it clear that he meant on a third separate occasion, instead of implying it was the third time in total.

Chapter : The Order Of The Phoenix

Harry learns that Voldemort is keeping a low profile and is building an army. Though Harry managed to escape during Voldemort’s rebirth, allowing Dumbledore to reactivate the Order of the Phoenix, it is difficult for them to convince as many people what has happened because of the Ministry and Fudge’s position, since Fudge believes that Dumbledore is after his job his fears make it easier for him to believe that, rather than admit Voldemort is back, which would end the last fourteen years of peace. Another reason the Order is having trouble with finding allies is the issue of their credibility. Sirius is a wanted murderer, Lupin is a werewolf, and the members that work for the Ministry would lose their jobs since Fudge is willing to sack anyone just for disagreeing with him. Fudge has also been trying to discredit Dumbledore’s reputation to prevent him from spreading the information, and is having the Daily Prophet cover up any news related to this. Sirius attempts to mention that Voldemort is trying to retrieve a “weapon…something he didn’t have last time”, before Molly and Lupin ask him to stop, and they then send the kids off to bed.
Chapter 2: The Egg And The Eye

Harry sneaks into the Prefect’s bathroom at night so he could have all the time he will need to figure out the clue, taking only the golden egg, his Invisibility Cloak, and the with him. Harry initially has trouble figuring out how to open the egg properly, but with a little help from Moaning Myrtle, who had been spying on him, Harry opens the egg under water. This time, Harry hears voices singing and can understand them when he puts his head underwater. Harry realises that he must save something he cares about from merpeople who live in the depths of the Black Lake.
On the way back to Gryffindor tower, Harry sees Barty Crouch in Snape’s office on the Marauder’s Map and goes to investigate. When he falls through a trick stair and traps his leg, he accidentally drops the egg and map, attracting the attention of Filch. Filch finds the egg, and Snape soon arrives and demands Filch’s help in catching someone who broke into his office. Moody then shows up, angering Snape by suggesting Snape had something to hide in his office. Snape points out that Moody searched his office after his arrival at Hogwarts. Moody then saves Harry from detection by claiming that the Marauder’s Map is his own . However, Snape suspects Harry’s involvement because he recognises the Marauder’s Map before Moody confiscates the egg from Filch and forces the pair away.

Neville Gives Harry The Gillyweed Instead Of Dobby
Harry needs outside help to figure out how to breathe underwater during the Second Task of the Triwizard Tournament. The book has that help come in the form of Dobby as he gives Harry Gillyweed, a magical plant that will allow Harry to breathe underwater. Barty Crouch Jr.–while disguised as Mad-Eye Moody–manipulates Dobby into stealing the Gillyweed to ensure that Harry will make it through the Second Task.
In the movie, Neville is the one to give Harry the Gillyweed instead. Barty Crouch Jr. gives Neville a book that he knows will give Neville the idea for the Gillyweed.

Book : Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
When it hit shelves: July 8, 2000
What happens in the book: At the beginning of Harry’s fourth year, Hogwarts students are told they will hold the once famous Triwizard Tournament, hosting witches from Beauxbatons Academy and wizards from the Durmstrang Magical Institute.
The Goblet of Fire selects a student to compete from each school. This year, however, two contestants are selected from Hogwarts: Cedric Diggory and Harry. Along with the other competitors , they must race to complete three tasks. Task one: snatch a golden egg from a nest guarded by a deadly dragon. Task two: retrieve something valuable from the bottom of the Hogwart’s lake. Task three: make way through a trap-laden labyrinth and retrieve the Triwizard Cup.
During the second task, Harry falls behind after valiantly saving Fleur Delacour’s sister. After trading hints about the first and second tasks, Harry and Cedric work together to complete the third and final task. When they reach the Cup, they grab it at the same time. The cup, it turns out, is a portkey, and Harry and Cedric are transported to a graveyard, where they’re welcomed by Voldemort and a slew of Death Eaters.

Chapter : Mayhem At The Ministry

The next morning, the group quickly departs the campsite and arrives at the Burrow, where a worried Mrs Weasley greets them. Mrs Weasley shows them the Daily Prophet article covering last night’s attack, which is filled with some inaccurate details penned by Rita Skeeter, a journalist well known for her heavily negative stories. This forces Mr Weasley to head to the Ministry with Percy to straighten things out, as he is indirectly mentioned in the article.
Heading into Ron’s room, Harry tells Ron and Hermione about his scar hurting and his letter to Sirius, as well as the dream. The three remark on how strange it is that Harry’s scar hurt so soon before the Dark Mark appeared for the first time in thirteen years.
On the final day before they are to return to Hogwarts, Harry hears that the Ministry of Magic has come under heavy fire for failing to stop the riot at the Quidditch World Cup or arrest any of the culprits because of Rita Skeeter’s article. Mr Weasley mentions that Rita is also attacking the Ministry because of the disappearance of Bertha Jorkins. Meanwhile, Ron is dismayed by his hideous hand-me-down dress robes, which he will need to wear at Hogwarts for a formal occasion later in the year.

Chapter 2: Seen And Unforeseen
- “You are quite right, of course, Professor Umbridge. As High Inquisitor you have every right to dismiss my teachers. You do not, however, have the authority to send them away from the castle. I am afraid, he went on, with a courteous little bow, “that the power to do that still resides with the Headmaster, and it is my wish that Professor Trelawney continue to live at Hogwarts.”

Hermione gives Harry advice on his love life after he recounts his date with Cho. The article containing Harry’s interview about Voldemort’s return is published in The Quibbler. Furious, Umbridge bans the tabloid from the school and strips Harry of his Hogsmeadevisitation rights, but the story spreads rapidly, gathering support for Harry. Many in the wizarding community also now begin to believe Harry. Umbridge considers Rubeus Hagrid and Sybill Trelawney incompetent, and sacks Trelawney. Although Dumbledore is unable to prevent Trelawney’s dismissal, he invokes his authority to allow her to remain in the castle and appoints a new Divination teacher – a centaur, Firenze, much to Umbridge’s disgust, due to her hatred for half-breeds.

Mr Weasley At Privet Drive
Mr. Weasley travels to Number 4 Privet Drive with Ron, Fred and George in tow. There, they collect Harry to take him away for the Quidditch World Cup, with the family having obtained tickets for the final. Yet Rowlings novel contains a mistake surrounding their return to The Burrow.
After collecting Harry, Mr. Weasley puts a pinch of Floo Powder into the fire for everyone to head back to the Burrow. After that, each Weasley simply steps into the green flames and heads off. However, in the Chamber of Secrets, when going to Diagon Alley, each person is shown to take a pinch of Floo powder – so when leaving the Durselys’, this would mean that each person should have a pinch on them, not just Arthur.

Chapter 2: The Unexpected Task

After a Transfiguration class, McGonagall tells her students about the Yule Ball, a formal event that is scheduled for 25 December and is open to fourth years and above . She tells Harry privately that he and his dance partner will start off the event alongside the other champions and their dates as a traditional part of the Triwizard Tournament.
Over the next few weeks, both Ron and Harry unsuccessfully attempt to find dates as they get through the final classes of the term. Fred and George are also acting suspiciously again they want to borrow Pigwidgeon to deliver a letter to someone, but Pigwidgeon is not back yet . Harry later works up his courage and asks Cho to go to the dance with him, but learns that she had already agreed to go with Cedric. This information sours Harry’s relationship with Cedric.
