Is Harry Potter For Kids

Don't Miss

All That Death And Torture

Kids React to Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Just as the Harry Potter books and films’ themes and subject matter get progressively more adult, they also become darker and more violent. Most people cite the death of Cedric Diggory as the turning point where the books become more adult-oriented and less kid-friendly, but the slow progression really begins with a two-headed professor in book one. Carrying a second face on the back of your head is pretty gruesome for a kids’ book.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets builds upon this with possession and petrification, which is really attempted murder, and Prisoner of Azkaban features the dreaded Dementors mentioned above.

In addition to Diggory’s callous, meaningless death, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire also features the torture of several Muggles and the introduction of the Unforgivable Curses, which are used in the next several books.

From the violent deaths of beloved characters like Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape to the violent abuse and torture of Hermione and Muggle studies instructor Charity Burbage, there is enough darkness to provide nightmares for weeks.

Are there other parts of Harry Potter that are too dark for kids? Let us know in the comments!

How To Manage The Day

Tickets can be split into two. There is no requirement to see Part I and Part II on the same day. That being said, I can’t imagine heading home after Part I and waiting a week to reach the conclusion. This is one book you simply can’t put down.

Our tickets suggested we arrive an hour early. Momtrends tip: give yourself 30 minutes. Surprisingly, there is relatively little Potter “merch” for sale. We perused the snack bar and grabbed a few snacks to tide us over until the dinner break and we took a few photos with the otter patronus .

I thought there might be Harry Potter memorabilia about, there isn’t. Grab your snack and settle in. NOTE: If you want to see Potter sets and costumes, you MUST make a pilgrimage to the Warner Brothers Studio Lots outside London. Click for all the details.

My advice is to get the heck away from Times Square with your two hour break. Bryant Park is nearby and if the weather is nice, head there and sit on the lawn. The is a Le Pain Quotidian, Pret a Manger and other sandwich shops nearby. Use your time to stretch your legs and get away from the crowds.

The girls and I did a bit of shopping at Zara and grabbed a bite after. Whatever you do, make sure you get in a bit of walking. It’s a marathon session of theater

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Review

“What the heck is a Slytherin?!” I knew the older couple behind us was in trouble from the start. For anyone not steeped in Harry Potter lore, seeing the new two-part play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child would be like getting hit with a confundus charm. Excuse me if I sound a bit like Sybill Trelawney: you need to know the history to see the future. For the poor muggles who known nothing of J.K.Rowling’s world of witches and wizards, this nine hour commitment will be a slog, but for those of us who have been bought into her world, it’s simply magical. This Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Review is for the believers.

Rowling has said it is unlikely she will write any more books in the Harry Potter series. In October 2007, she stated that her future work was unlikely to be in the fantasy genre. On 1 October 2010, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Rowling stated a new book on the saga might happen.

In 2007, Rowling stated that she planned to write an encyclopaedia of Harry Potter‘s wizarding world consisting of various unpublished material and notes. Any profits from such a book would be given to charity. During a news conference at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre in 2007, Rowling, when asked how the encyclopaedia was coming along, said, “It’s not coming along, and I haven’t started writing it. I never said it was the next thing I’d do.” At the end of 2007, Rowling said that the encyclopaedia could take up to ten years to complete.

In June 2011, Rowling announced that future Harry Potter projects, and all electronic downloads, would be concentrated in a new website, called Pottermore. The site includes 18,000 words of information on characters, places and objects in the Harry Potter universe.

Moaning Myrtle: Creepy And Depressing

Moaning Myrtle, a ghost who haunts the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, is clearly meant to be adorable: She talks in cutesy baby-talk, wears big nerdy glasses and seems to harbor a quiet crush on our hero, Harry Potter. Aww.

She’s so adorable, in fact, that it’s easy to forget that we’re talking about the tormented specter of a child who’s doomed to exclusively haunt middle school bathrooms. Assuming she’s into it, you’ve got a pubescent dead voyeur watching school-age boys use the toilet. Assuming she’s not, you’ve got a murdered child who’s forced to hang out in a smelly-ass bathroom for all eternity.

Either way, holy Hell, is that some dark shit. Children who read this book will probably have difficulty using public restrooms for the rest of their lives, forever looking over their shoulders while dropping deuces, fearful that they’re being scrutinized by an underage poltergeist with a weird bathroom fetish. Thanks a lot, Rowling. We’ll be sending you our psychiatrist bills.

Your wizard-obsessed kids can work through a series of questions to and explore how to properly execute spells. Their Hogwarts knowledge will come in handy as they explore the halls or visit the House common rooms. It is also designed for Muggle Families who consider themselves Wizards and want to try the escape room as a group. We did it last night it took about 15 minutes, my 9 and 11 year old could do it by themselves.

The Harry Potter Series

The Harry Potter series by J K Rowling is brilliant to read aloud to your child but when’s the best age to start?

My husband started reading the first Harry Potter book – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – to our twin sons when they were six. .

This was in 2001 when everyone was first talking about the books and the four of us were keen to find out what all the fuss was about.

And for our two at least, six turned out to be exactly the right age to start reading the Harry Potter series. The boys absolutely loved reading a chapter a night and their dad and I also loved discovering the story with them.

Each Harry Potter book is just a little bit more complex than the one before. For our boys and for millions of other kids around the world, this meant that they were pretty much growing up with Harry and his friends as they read their way through the series.

We read the first three books aloud as a family and have some very special memories of these times. My daughter was only three when we were reading them but she snuggled up on the bed to listen too and the experience seems to have inspired in her a life-long love of all things Harry Potter.By the time Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire came out in 2005, my boys were eight and keen to tackle it on their own. The only problem was, they both wanted to be the first in the family to read it!

Who Should See The Play

Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone | A Cosmic Kids Yoga Adventure!

I think I’ve made it clear, if you know nothing of Harry Potter and just want the “hot Broadway ticket” well, good luck to you. I think you’ll be lost. When it comes to how old kids need to be to enjoy this, there’s a spectrum. In general, I think the show is suitable for kids 10 and up. There is violence and a lot of loud flashes, and the themes of loss and struggle can be complex. But if you have a kiddo who is eight and a total Potterhead, I think they will be fine.

How else is OP gonna farm them sweet fake internet points?

Whoops, are you also suggesting I shouldnt submit my DAE Snape grey character post?

Is there really OG content at this point?

I was going to say the same thing! The only reason I remember, is because that tweet came from my best friend from middle school, who I still talk to to this day. Lol. I was ready to defend his Internet honor!

Its just that bad of a plot point

You don’t get it! This time, it’s just a post title, no screenshot of a tweet!

Still not as cringe as reposting this again

There should be a karma penalty for such blatant reposts

I wish we could do more than just downvote

Lol youre totally on point. This just reminds me of something:

I think this has been said before but: Poor Hagrid. He was pretty much Harrys friend the entire series, was always there for him and always tried to help. Hagrid introduced him to the wizarding world, bought him his first cake and proper bday gift. Contrasted with Snape, who bullied him and his friends through school, who pretty much hated him because of his father and how he looked. Snape loved his mother, was a spy for the order but really was hardly a positive figure in Harrys life. Maybe he was redeemed, and Harry forgave him, maybe he was a war hero, but… Hagrid just gets forgotten.

Now that I think about it, I reckon if Harry had another child, and Ginny didnt really mind what the names were, he should name it: Rubeus Hedwig Potter.

The Harry Potter Films

Kids Deluxe Harry Potter Costume

The Harry Potter books have been made into eight films which were released between 2001 and 2011.

The films star English actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in the leading roles of Harry Potter and his best friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.

The films are terrific for adults and for children although, as with the books, they get progressively darker and more scary with more adult themes as you progress through the series. With that in mind, it can be a good idea to watch them yourself before you introduce your younger children to them.

Harry Potters Us Publication Made It A Bonafide Phenomenon

Harry Potter did fine when it first emerged in the UK 20 years ago, winning a Smarties Award and garnering respectable sales for its publisher, Bloomsbury. But it only started to approach phenomenon levels when Scholastic bought the US publication rights for an astonishing $105,000, about 10 times more than the average foreign rights sale at the time.

Arthur Levine, the Scholastic editor who acquired the books, had an excellent eye for British books that would work in the US, having already acquired the US rights to Redwall and His Dark Materials. But even he didnt know that Harry Potter would grow as big as it did. He just knew that he loved it and wanted to publish it. Scholastic President Barbara Marcus Barbara Marcus kept saying do you love it? and Arthur said yes, so we went for it, a Scholastic spokesperson recalled in 2002. I would have been willing to go further than that if I had to,” Levine said in 2007.

The $105,000 sale granted Harry Potter two things: a built-in publicity hook, and a big budget.

The hook came from the press: Newspapers featured articles about the little English book that had garnered such a huge sale. Reviewers wanted to know what kind of book would justify that kind of money. It was a curiosity, and as such, it was a story.

About The Harry Potter Series

Basically the seven Harry Potter books are fantasy novels written by a British author, J K Rowling.

The books are about the adventures of a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. The three are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The three friends are eleven when the first book begins and nearly eighteen at the end of the final book in the series.

The main story arc involves Harry’s quest to overcome the dark wizard, Lord Voldemort, who seeks to conquer the wizarding world, subjugate non-magical people and destroy all those who stand in the way of his becoming immortal. The books tackle many themes, among them prejudice, the power of love, corruption, death, friendship, loyalty and good vs evil. They also involve elements of mystery, romance and adventure, woven together in a series of quite complex subplots.

The first book in the Harry Potter series was released on June 1997. It was followed by six further books, all of which have been hugely popular around the world, selling over 450 million copies.
