Emma Watson Revealed The Hardest Thing About Playing Hermione Granger

‘Harry Potter’ Star Emma Watson On 10 Years Playing Hermione Granger

If you grew up with the Harry Potter books, it’s easy to feel like you also grew up with the characters. No one understood you the way Harry, Ron, and Hermione did. And for the actors who actually played these iconic characters, that is doubly true. In fact, Emma Watson says that there’s actually a downside to having grown up with a personality she spent almost a decade bringing to life.

” spent more than half of my life pretending to be someone else. While my contemporaries were dying their hair and figuring out who they were, I was figuring out who Hermione was and how best to portray her,”she told Porter magazine about the process. But it’s been four years since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 premiered, and Emma says that “now at 25 for the first time in my life I feel like I have a sense of self that Im comfortable with. I actually do have things that I want to say and I want to be my most authentic self.”

And what does that authentic self look like? It’s a bundle of contradictions in the best way possible. “It sounds like a ridiculous thing to say, but Im very interested in truth, in finding ways to be messy and unsure and flawed and incredible and great and my fullest self, all wrapped into one,” she says. “When you watch the work of someone like actress Emma Thompson, you feel like youre seeing something true, and I aspire to that.”

Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone

Hermione first appears in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone when she meets Harry and Ron on the Hogwarts Express, where she mocks Ron for his inability to perform a spell to turn his rat yellow. She proves just how much she knows by declaring that she memorized all the textbooks by heart. She constantly annoys her peers with her knowledge, so Harry and Ron initially consider her arrogant, especially after she criticises Ron’s incantation of the Levitation Charm. They heartily dislike her until they rescue her from a troll, for which she is so thankful that she lies to protect them from punishment, thus winning their friendship. Hermione’s knack for logic later enables the trio to solve a puzzle that is essential to retrieving the Philosopher’s Stone, and she defeats the constrictive Devil’s Snare plant by summoning a jet of “bluebell flame”.

Hermione is the brains behind the plan to enter the place where the Stone is hidden. She responds to Harry’s wariness of Professor Severus Snape and is also suspicious of him. She reveals to Harry and Ron that she does a lot of research in the library, which helped her defeat the Devil’s Snare and work out the logic of the potions.

Rowling said on her website that she resisted her editor’s requests to remove the troll scene, stating “Hermione is so very arrogant and annoying in the early part of Philosopher’s Stone that I really felt it needed something huge to bring her together with Harry and Ron.”

Her Differences With Luna Lovegood

Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood are friends in the series despite the two characters sharing very little in common. Hermione is a practical person who thinks in rigid terms of logic, whereas Luna is more air-headed and prone to conspiracy theories and is likely to exasperate the level-headed Gryffindor witch.

Watson nails Hermione’s mannerisms and Evanna Lynch plays a perfect Luna. Both actresses portray their characters impressively and it translates well on-screen.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire Real

The activities of Goblet of Fire took place between 1994 and 1995. Filming took place between June 25th, 2004, and a date I cannot recall, but it was a very long film.

We can estimate that post-production took 6 months because that is how long the last one took, so shooting finished in May 2005. On November 6, 2005, it was finally released. This is the first movie in which we see the darker theme. After all, our characters are now in puberty and are showing angst.

The film is the first in the series to be rated PG-13 in the United States and 12A in the United Kingdom. The production began in early 2004. Leavesden Film Studios was used to film the Hogwarts scenes.

Five days after its debut, the film had earned more than US$102 million at the North American box office, making it the third-highest first-weekend haul for a Harry Potter film, behind only Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2.

Goblet of Fire had an enormously profitable box office run, grossing $896 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2005 and the sixth-highest-grossing film in the Harry Potter franchise.

Some Of The Spells She Did Were Illegal

The Best Gryffindor House Members in the Harry Potter Movies

Hermione was a stickler for the rules throughout most of the series, but there were times when she felt the need to go against the law.

For example, in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” she used an undetectable extension charm on her bag in order to fit all the supplies the trio needed on their quest for the Horcruxes.

According to Wizarding World, these charms are illegal for private use and are only intended for the production of objects like school trunks and family tents.

In “Sorcerer’s Stone,” she also told Ron while they were riding the Hogwarts Express that she’d already tried out a few spells before starting school. But later on in the series, we learn that underage students aren’t allowed to practice magic outside of Hogwarts.

Overrated: Being Good At School Isnt The Only Way To Be Smart

One of the reasons why Hermione gets a lot of love and hype by fans is because shes so intelligent.

However, while this is a great thing and important to see in a female character, its important to remember that being a straight-A student isnt the only measure of intelligence. She wasnt the only smart person at Hogwarts.

The Actress Played Angela Gray In Regression

Rotten Tomatoes score: 15%

Summary: Set in 1990s Minnesota, “Regression” follows Detective Bruce Kenner and psychologist Kenneth Raines as they work to uncover a horrifying crime centered on Angela Gray and her father John .

Reviews for “Regression” were largely negative despite a top-notch cast. Some critics cited the scattershot plot and superficial characters as the major downfalls.

“Well-intended seriousness dismantles ‘Regression,’ a not-exactly-horror horror movie that’s also a mystery with no mystery,” wrote Robert Abele for the Los Angeles Times.

Underrated: She Was More Than Just Her Intellect

While Hermiones intelligence and ability to learn quickly and adapt is impressive, she often doesnt get enough credit for her other traits. She had just as much bravery and courage as Harry and Ron, and she was a Gryffindor in these ways.

She was willing to risk so much in order to do the right thing and help Harry defeat Voldemort. Plus, she was also the most loyal of any of the trio when it came to friendships.

Watson may have considered walking away from the franchise, but ultimately she stayed because she couldnt bear to see another actor portray Hermoine. In a press junket for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Watson shared that she put too much of herself into her character for her to just relinquish the role to another actor. I know if anybody else played Hermione, it would actually kill me, she shared. I wouldnt be able to deal with that at all. Id go after her.

Emma Watson’s Education On The Harry Potter Set

Continuing her education has always been important to Emma Watson. The actress filmed Harry Potter throughout nine months of the year and still managed to keep high grades. She told The Telegraph in an interview in 2007, “I feel it’s terribly important to continue with my education, in case acting doesn’t work out for me.”

Watson’s character Hermione was a driving force behind her decision to pursue college. Watson told Paper, “I was the girl in school whose hand shot up to answer the questions. I was really eager to learn in an uncool way. In a super uncool way, actually. And then the character of Hermione gave me permission to be who I was.”

Upon the completion of the Harry Potter film series, Watson’s acting career exploded. She told the Mirror, “I feel I’ve graduated from the most difficult, hard-core film school of all time and I can’t believe how lucky I’ve been.”

In the beginning, most of these games followed the narrative of film protagonist Harry Potter. However, as the gameplay became more complex, players also had the option to play as other main characters. Stepping into the shoes of knowledge-loving bookworm Hermione Granger was first introduced in Creator: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, published by EA and Lego Interactive in 2002. Sequel to Lego Creator: Harry Potter, this game allows players to control Lego Hermione, among other Lego characters such as Ron and Hagrid. Players even have the option to build their own custom Lego characters, although their style is now rather outdated.

Harry Potter Star Emma Watson Learned There’s More To Life Than Fame

Emma Watson probably never thought about fame when she began acting, but fame found her anyway.

Thinking back to her last few Harry Potter movie premieres, Watson said she would look at the heavy makeup and dress she was wearing and not feel like herself. “I didn’t connect to the person who was looking back at me, and that was a very unsettling feeling,” she told Vanity Fair. Bell Hooks, an author whom Watson admires, said of the star for the Vanity Fair piece, “She’s a very different, new breed who are interested in being whole and having a holistic life, as opposed to being identified with just wealth and fame.”

The Harry Potter films were shot while Watson was still discovering herself and obviously had a huge impact on her. And it seems Watson wouldn’t change a thing about that. She told the Mirror, “How do I put into words what all of this has meant to me? It will always be a part of who I am and I feel so blessed to have shared in it.”

Harry Potter Films At : What The Cast Did Next

Hold on to your sorting hat, the original cast of the Harry Potter series are to reunite on screen to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first film, Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone.

The HBO Max special, titled Return to Hogwarts, will be released on 1 January, the network has said.

The stars of the franchise, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, and their cast mates, will join the first film’s director Chris Columbus at the reunion to discuss the eight films in depth.

As children, the trio had their lives transformed by their wizarding roles as Harry Potter , Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, in the big-screen adaptation of JK Rowling’s hugely successful series of fantasy children’s books. The author is not listed to appear at the special event but will reportedly feature in archive footage.

The announcement came exactly 20 years to the day since the release of the first film on November 16 2001. The final instalment, Deathly Hallows Part 2, hit cinemas in 2011.

So, as you wait for your acceptance letter from Hogwarts two decades on, here’s what the main stars, and some of the other cast, have been up to since they burst on to the scene as young stars.

Noma Dumezweni Plays Hermione Granger In The Harry Potter Play

Image source: . Life has gotten a little more magical for Noma Dumezweni. The Swaziland born actress is currently stunning audiences in the role of Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The play, which is currently running in the West End, is the latest installment in the Harry Potter fantasy series. This story, written by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany, follows Harry, Ron, and Hermione more than two decades after the last book as they navigate parenthood, working lives, and an impending disaster.Dumezweni was a controversial casting choice for the role, considering that Emma Watson, the talented child actress who portrayed Hermione in the films, is white. However, many fans and even author J.K. Rowling herself have defended the choice, noticing that Hermiones skin color was never explicitly stated in the books. Really the only descriptions of her indicated that she had brown eyes, frizzy, curly hair, and she was smart as a whip. Theres really no reason that she couldnt be portrayed by a talented brown, dark skinned actress like Dumezweni.

Now that the Harry Potter play has opened, the verdict is clear. Dumezweni was the perfect choice for the role and she is blowing it out of the water! The Olivier Award winner plays Hermione at a very difficult time in her life.

Early Readers Weren’t Sure How To Pronounce Her Name

Many fans who read the first few books before the films were released weren’t sure how to pronounce Hermione.

“I get asked that so much because people a lot of times say Her-me-one which I think is really cute. I wish I had told people right in the beginning it was pronounced Her-me-one,” Rowling said in the same 1999 interview.

This led the author to include a scene in the fourth book where Hermione teaches Viktor Krum how to pronounce her name by sounding out “Hermyohnee.”

The Sorting Hat Almost Placed Her In Ravenclaw

HERMIONE GRANGER || STRONGER (HARRY POTTER)

Most fans are well aware of the fact that Harry had some say in which house the Sorting Hat placed him at Hogwarts he famously asked it not to sort him into Slytherin.

But in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” Hermione shared that she was also aware of the magical hat’s decision-making process.

There’s a conversation with Terry Boot in the book that reads, “‘Well, the Sorting Hat did seriously consider putting me in Ravenclaw during my Sorting,’ said Hermione brightly, ‘but it decided on Gryffindor in the end.'”

Hermione is horrified by the cruelty that house-elves suffer, and establishes S.P.E.W., the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare, as an effort to gain basic rights for them. She is Bulgarian Quidditch prodigy Viktor Krum‘s date at the Yule Ball of the Triwizard Tournament. The proper pronunciation of her name is interjected into the plot when she teaches it to Krum the best he can do is “Herm-own-ninny,” but she has no problem with it. She later gets into a heated argument with Ron after he accuses her of “fraternising with the enemy” about her friendship with Krum. In the book, Hermione’s feelings toward Ron are hinted at when she says that Ron can’t see her “like a girl,” but Krum could. She supports Harry through the Triwizard Tournament, helping him prepare for each task. At the end of the second task, Krum asks her to come to see him over the summer in Bulgaria, but she politely declines. Near the end of the term, she stops fraudulent tabloid reporter and unregistered Animagus, Rita Skeeter, who had published defamatory material about Hermione, Harry, and Hagrid during the Triwizard Tournament, by holding her Animagus form captive in a jar.

Emma Watson’s Awkward Years Were Spent Starring In Harry Potter Movies

When the final Harry Potter film premiered, Emma Watson was 21 years old. Filming the series spanned not only throughout much of Watson’s childhood, but throughout her teenage years as well.

At a time when many are just trying to get through high school and deciding what to wear to prom, Watson was spending hours on set. She told The Telegraph, “Sometimes I miss the fact that I have never really been a teenager because I have been Hermione for such a long time.” When asked about growing up in front of the world, she admitted to the Mirror, “It’s embarrassing to see myself go through the awkward stages of growing up my hair was just enormous!”

Before the premiere of the final Harry Potter film, Watson told the Mirror, “I have spent more of my life being someone else than I have being myself.” The conclusion of the series meant it was time for Watson to focus on herself. Though it seemed as if she was at the height of her career following the films’ massive success, her incredible acting career was just getting started.
