The school has a formaluniform that all students are required to wear, as well as optional clothing items, and accessories such as Prefect and Head Boy or Girl pins. The school divides the children into four separate houses according to the ability of each student.

Dressing in Hogwarts uniform is easy enough if you know what to wear. From House clothes, jerseys, and shirts to a scarf, hat and accessories of choice

Cloaks Capes And Robes In Harry Potter

by Portia | Jun 6, 2018 | Harry Potter, Movie Capes |

The cloaks, capes, and robes in Harry Potter demonstrate the different personalities and professions of the characters. The costume designer for the movies after The Prisoner of Askaban , Jany Temime, said an estimated 20,000 robes were produced for the movies. Lets take a look at some of them.

The easiest way to distinguish a wizard from a muggle in the Harry Potter universe is their robesthat, or their misinterpreted muggle fashion. There are dress robes, Quidditch robes, school robes, and formal robes. The long fabric billows and protects, splays out and stays close, just as they would, being in the same family as cloaks and capes.

Why Hogwarts Students Started Wearing Muggle Clothing In The Third Harry Potter Movie

Were sure all Harry Potter die-hards think theyve noticed just about every detail imaginable in both the book and movie seriesor at least have tried to. As far as the films go, there are definitely new things to see with each fresh viewing, including seemingly minor details you might not have even thought were intentional. For example, did you ever notice that after Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the students at Hogwarts almost abandoned their robes entirely and began dressing like everyday Muggles? Well, that was on purpose.

In the first two films, wearing the Hogwarts uniform was considered very important and the kids were seen wearing their robes at nearly all times. But in 2004’s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the students hardly ever wear their robes outside of the classroom. That’s because costume designer Jany Temime, who worked on the last six films, had a different vision for the kids when she was brought on to the project.

I thought that they should look normal, that they should look like normal kids, Temime toldInStyle in 2017. I wanted a real feel. I wanted to make Harry Potter not a little story that you read in bed but something real. Because at the end of the day, they are teenagers coming from dysfunctional families, all of them, and then living together in a boarding school and all those kids have special gifts.”

Do Wizards Wear Pants #robegate Answered

da fuq is up with that?

I know you all have been wondering this question. Well, the time has come to finally answer it, and through long and silly reasoned debate, my companion Naomi Louchouarn and I have reached an undeniable conclusion: the answer is not a simple yes or no. First of all, allow me to backpedal and tell you that yes, of course we are talking about the Harry Potter universe . Second, for context, Naomi and I have been concurrently re-reading the entire series and having regularly over-involved conversations about its nuances, which are many and delightful. I also listen to a Harry Potter podcast called Witch, Please where the hosts have repeatedly posed this question during their own re-reading: do wizards wear pants under their robes? Listeners of the podcast have taken to twitter to speculate on this phenomenon, yet the mystery of #robegate seemed to be unsolved

if wizards wear trousers under their robes then why does Ron need the too small jeans in Deathly Hallows? #robegate

Hannah Bee

YES. Thank you Hannah Bee. My friend Naomi and I came to the same conclusion a few months ago, and finally I have gotten my wits about me to assemble the evidence.

Allllrighty, so: lets take you through the evidence. And bonus: courtesy of Naomi, illustrations are provided to guide your journey. Please note that I of course claim no ownership of the content belowbecause thats J.K. Rowling.

Her Yule Ball Gown Was Young Fun And Witchy

Hermione wore a pink chiffon gown to the Yule Ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. One of her best looks, the floor-length gown had a tiered skirt that turned a deeper shade of pink with each layer. It was a youthful design with a touch of whimsy fitting for a magic ball. Hermione completed the look with her hair in an updo and a cascade of curls framing her face.

The Yule Ball was a turning point for Hermione. It was the first time anyone had seen her in dress robes and without her trademark frizzy hair. Not to mention it was at the Yule Ball that Ron first noticed she was a girl and not one of the boys.

Dumbledore Is The First Character To Appear On Screen And He Does So In A Very Distinct Look

First appearance: “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”

As the first character to appear on screen in the entire film series, Dumbledore gives viewers the first idea of what wizards look like.

The old headmaster has a very distinct look, with his long, white beard and hair, purple hat and robes, and half-moon glasses.

Dressing Like Harry Potter

  • 1Put on black trousers and a white shirt. If you can, use slacks and a collared, button-up shirt. The Hogwarts dress code requires everyone to look smashing.
  • Wear a burgundy cardigan in cold weather.
  • 2Wear an old black robe. Harry Potter doesn’t wear this all the time in the films, but it’s required for all Hogwarts students in the books. Besides, a shirt and trousers aren’t too wizardly by themselves. There are several ways to track one of these down:Advertisement
  • 3Look in graduation stores that sell academic gowns. Ask whether they have old ones they will sell cheaply for costume purposes.
  • Thrift stores, charity stores, and costume shops might stock these.
  • If you know any professors, judges, or lawyers, ask to borrow their robes.
  • Wear a long, black coat back-to-front, or a long black skirt over your shoulders.
  • 4Hide long hair under a hat. A pointy black hat isn’t necessary for Harry Potter, but it is easily recognized as a wizarding hat. The main use for a hat like this is to hide long hair, if you have it.
  • 5Make a pair of “broken” glasses. Find a pair of round glasses with black frames at a used clothing store or drugstore. Put a piece of clear sellotape over the middle of the glasses, like Harry does when his glasses break.
  • Toy stores sell fake glasses along with a nose and mustache. Cut off the extra bits, and they’re the perfect shape.
  • Wrap a yellow ribbon around the scarf in a spiral. Staple or sew it in place.

Her Muggle Clothing Was Meant To Make Her More Relatable

One of Hermione’s best-known outfits is the pink hoodie she wore with jeans in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It was part of a new set of Muggle clothing for Harry, Ron, and Hermione to make them seem more like relatable teenagers than characters from a fantasy world.

This was a controversial change because Hogwarts students wore their uniforms and robes at all times in the Harry Potter books, even when they weren’t in class. The new costume design also deviated from the more polished aesthetic of the first two movies. Because the actors, narrative, and fanbase were all maturing, the costumes also had to change to fit the new tone.

Cho Is Oddly Wearing A Hogwart’s Uniform In Her Final Scene

Last appearance: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2”

When the members of Dumbledore’s Army gather in the Room of Requirement before the Battle of Hogwarts, Cho is wearing a light-blue cardigan over a patterned dress.

But for some reason, she changes into her Hogwarts robes with her Ravenclaw tie for the battle even though everyone else is wearing their clothes from that previous scene.

This is especially odd since Cho is a year older than Harry and would’ve already finished her schooling at Hogwarts.

But the first time we see 11-year-old Harry Potter , he’s waking up in his bed in the cupboard under the stairs.
