What Kind Of Wand Does Draco Have

Don't Miss

It Goes By Many Names

Harry Potter Villain Wands | Draco, Snape, Voldemort, the Elder Wand | Noble Collection

The Elder Wand has also been known as the Wand of Destiny, a title evocative of the grandeur and power that has enticed so many wizards. Other names have been bestowed upon it through the years. Some were derived from simple translations, such as the Eldrun Wand, which was the name given by Barnabas Deverill . It was also dubbed the Deathstick by Loxias, who ensured that the instrument lived up to its title, and the Dark wizard Godelot called it My most wicked and subtle friend, with body of Ellhorn, who knowes ways of magick moste evile. It didnt catch on.

He Temporarily Had Control Of The Elder Wand

During his sixth year, Draco was given the task of destroying Dumbledore and giving the Death Eaters access into Hogwarts. While he succeeded with the latter, Draco was unable to take the life of the Hogwarts headmaster. However, when confronting Dumbledore, he disarmed the professor, which was a significant action even if Draco did not realize it at the time.

This was only temporary, though, as Harry later confronts Draco in his house in the Deathly Hallows and disarms him. This meant that control of the Elder Wand was passed down to Harry, who still technically can wield it today. For one brief moment, however, Draco could have been the most powerful wizard in the world.

How Come Hermione Tried Spells Before Boarding The Hogwarts Express

OK, so here is a sequence of facts:

  • Its prohibited to use magic in Muggle areas.

  • Before boarding Hogwarts Express, Hermione lived in a Muggle area.

  • Hermione and her parents must have been told, upon getting a wand, about restrictions on use of magic. Or she would have read about it in Hogwarts: A History or some other book.

  • If so, this being Hermione, she would never have violated the rules.

  • Yet, Hermione told Ron in the beginning of PS, on the train, that she already successfully tried out some spells after witnessing him trying to turn the rat yellow. This was right after they boarded Hogwarts Express, so she must have done it before.

So, how could she have possibly practiced any magic?

Id strongly prefer canon or JKR based answer if available.

Based on the following quotes I suggest Hermione had time to practice these spells on the train.

I just take the train from platform nine and three-quarters at eleven oclock.

Then

Around half past twelve there was a great clattering outside in the corridor and a smiling, dimpled woman slid back their door and said Anything off the cart, dears?

After the chocolate frogs, many as Harry had a few cards, Neville arrives in the compartment

There was a knock on the door of their compartment and the round-faced boy Harry had passed on platform nine and three-quarters came in.

Finally,

He had just raised his wand when the compartment door slid open again. The toadless boy was back, but this time he had a girl with him.

He Was An Extremely Intelligent Student

Although the movies show Draco to be just an arrogant bully, in the books, we see another aspect of Draco – we soon discover that he is an intelligent student, too. While Harry was always picked on in Potions due to Snapes hatred for him, Draco was always the teachers pet.

Whether he was actually better than Harry is debatable, though, as Snape never gave the Gryffindor student a fair chance. However, one subject where Malfoy definitely excelled was in Charms, in which he was described as equally intelligent as Hermione.During his sixth year, he managed to cast the extremely difficult Protean charm. The only other person in the class who could cast it was Hermione.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

Wonderful Wands: Episode #3

During Hagrids debut as Care of Magical Creatures instructor in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the hippogriff, Buckbeak, attacks Draco after he fails to observe proper protocol while approaching it and insults it. He exaggerates the extent of his injury, giving Slytherin a chance to postpone their Quidditch match against Gryffindor until later in the year and as an attempt to have Hagrid fired. Hermione punches Draco when he mocks Hagrid for crying over Buckbeaks death sentence. Draco, who implies that he is aware of how Sirius Black was supposedly involved in the deaths of Harrys parents, also taunts Harry about the impending threat of Black: If it was me, Id want revenge. Id hunt him down myself.

The Wands Of Each Harry Potter Character

How much do you know about the wands of Harry Potter characters, from Dumbledore and the Elder Wand to the Twin Cores of Harry and Voldemort’s?

Wands are everything in J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world. From illuminating a room to eliminating an adversary, witches and wizards are nothing without their wands. In Harry Potter, each wand fashioned by esteemed wand makers feature a type of wood the wand is to be made from, and the most important piece of the wand – the core, which is something specifically chosen from a magical creature, and inserted into the wood. Each wand possesses a specific build and power, making each one unique, and perfect for their chosen “master.”

A special bond can form between each witch or wizard and their wand, that becomes more in line with a companionship, or a soul mate relationship, than just a physical tool to perform magic. A wand is theirs, and theirs alone – which is why Lucius Malfoy is so hesitant to give his up, even to the Dark Lord himself.

“The wand chooses the wizard. That much has always been clear to those of us who have studied wandlore…”

-Garrick Ollivander

With each wand being so special in each one’s own right, we came up with a list of all your favorite character’s wands from the Harry Potter universe. The Wands of Each Harry Potter Character.

What Is The Elder Wand In Harry Potter

The Elder Wand is said to be created by Death and is one-third of the Deathly Hallows. The other two items that make up the trio are the Resurrection Stone and the Cloak of Invisibility. The first user of the wand, according to The Tale of the Three Brothers, was Antioch Peverell. His reason for obtaining the wand was because he requested of Death a gift worthy of someone who had outsmarted the entity.

The Elder Wand is made with the core of a Thestral’s hair, making it a mighty yet tricky wand to master. Unlike other wands, it connects only with a user who has bested the previous owner. For example, Malfoy was tasked with killing Dumbledore by Voldemort. While he was unable to complete his task, he could disarm the wizard, making him the rightful owner. This would ultimately prove to be Voldemort’s downfall as he wielded the wand even though it was never technically his and, therefore, made him weaker.

The Significance Of Dracos Wand

Pretty much every characters wand in the Harry Potter franchise has some significance behind it. At least, Rowling has a reason why each characters wand is what it is. For example, Harrys wand is made of holly, with a phoenix feather core. According to Mr. Ollivanders notes on wand materials, a Holly and phoenix feather wand combination is an exceedingly rare and powerful combination of mismatched natures, at least according to conventional wisdom.

Dracos wand also carries thematic significance: his is hawthorn and unicorn hair. According to Rowlings own writings on Draco, the unicorn hair was meant to reflect the idea that even Draco has a good, conscionable side to him. Also from Ollivanders notes, wands made of hawthorn tend to be suited for wizards who either have great conflict in themselves or who are going through tumultuous times in their lives. They are also tricky wands to master, calling for a wizard with proven magical talent.

Accio Or Wingardium Leviosa

I cannot even begin to describe the horrifying agony that comes with wanting to change the channel despite the television remote control being too far out of reach. Now you have to abandon the comfort of your sofa to retrieve it unless you can make it come to you.

There are a couple of Harry Potter spells that come in handy when retrieving foreign objects, the most effective being Accio, which summons any object of your choice right to you immediately. If you dont mind taking your time with it a bit more, use Wingardium Leviosa, the Levitation Charm, to make the object float toward you.

The Levitation Charm would also be a great help with rescuing cats stuck in trees, rearranging or transporting furniture, or serve as a wonderful alternative to elevators if you dont feel like using the stairs. It has also proven effective in prank wars.

Why Draco Malfoys Creator Isnt Comfortable With His Popularity

Pick just about any Harry Potter character with a role to play in the storywith maybe a few exceptions like Dolores Umbridgeand youll find readers and movie viewers who are intrigued, admire, or even root for them. So its not too surprising some fans like Draco.

Hes paired with Harry in one of fandoms most popular ships, but some also like him as a character. Thats not to say they endorse or support every decision he makes hes prejudiced, was raised to believe he was better than everyone else, snotty, and kind of a coward by Deathly Hallows. But that doesnt take away from the fact that hes a fascinating characterand maybe even one readers may pity.

In recent years, Rowling has taken issue with how some fans have admired Draco, and she addressed it when she debuted Dracos biography on Pottermore in 2014. She put part of the logic behind it on actor Tom Felton, who played Draco through all eight films and is basically the polar opposite of his character.

I have often had cause to remark on how unnerved I have been by the number of girls who fell for this particular fictional character , Rowling wrote. Draco has all of the dark glamour of the anti-hero girls are very apt to romanticise such people.

Jk Rowling Doesn’t Recommend Going Out With Him

Although Draco was loving towards his parents, J.K. Rowling has said numerous times that she doesnt get why so many fans fall for him, even describing herself as unnerved by it. Despite having a moral core that meets the absolute minimum standards for decency, Draco was not in any way a nice person. She does not discount the appeal of Tom Felton, who plays Draco brilliantly in the films, but even he has said he thinks Ron Weasley would be a much better boyfriend.

I’m not too sure Draco would be a good boyfriend. Ron however?

He Was More Jealous Of Harry Than He Let On

Draco Malfoys Wand For The Love of Harry

Specifically, Draco was jealous of Harry. It was easy to miss because Draco didnt often show his emotions, modelling himself on his cold, confident, calculating father, but J.K. Rowling has confirmed that a lot of his enmity towards Harry stemmed from envy. Draco was brought up to believe he was very special, so it jarred with him that Harry was more admired at school than he was. He was, apparently, also very upset that Harry was a better flier than him, flying being one of the only things Draco could rightfully believe he was actually good at.

My Headcanon Says That Harry Was Never The Master Of The Elder Wand

Some in the Potter fandom have debated whether Harry made the correct decision when he forsook the Elder Wand for his holly and phoenix wand, but was the Wand ever Harrys to forsake?

Harrys mastership of the Elder Wand is convincingly confirmed during his climactic fight with Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Harry saw Voldemorts green jet meet his own spell, saw the Elder Wand fly high, dark against the sunrise, spinning across the enchanted ceiling like the head of Nagini, spinning through the air toward the master it would not kill, who had come to take full possession of it at last.

Despite this, my headcanon says that Harry was never the master of the Elder Wand and that at the end of Deathly Hallows, Draco was still the master of the Elder Wand. This might be considered unreasonable. On first glance, it seems to contradict the plot of Deathly Hallows. However, I have several forms of circumstantial evidence that suggest that Draco is the master of the Elder Wand without contradicting the plot of the series.

The Elder Wand is characteristically similar to J.R.R. Tolkiens One Ring, as featured in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Both objects are shown to be sentient and are able to act autonomously, to an extent. For instance, the Ring abandoned Gollum.

When Xenophilius Lovegood was explaining the historical context of The Tale of the Three Brothers to the trio, he spoke about the trail of the Elder Wand.

He Didnt Really See Socks In The Mirror Of Erised

After Dumbledore told Harry he saw himself with a nice pair of socks when looking into the Mirror of Erised, Harry later reflected that he might have been lying, but that it was a rather nosy thing to ask:

It was only when he was back in bed that it struck Harry that Dumbledore might not have been quite truthful. But then, he thought, as he shoved Scabbers off his pillow, it had been quite a personal question.Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

After it was revealed that Dumbledore was devastated by the accidental death of his sister during a fight with Grindelwald and his brother, Aberforth, it became clear that Dumbledores deepest desire, and regret, involved his family. J.K. Rowling confirmed this after the final novel, revealing that when Dumbledore looks into the mirror he sees his family alive, whole and happy Ariana, Percival and Kendra all returned to him, and Aberforth reconciled to him. He Was Unable To Produce A Patronus

Though anyone can find out what their Patronus is on Pottermore, it is not as simple in the Wizarding World. Some wizards and witches are actually unable to produce a Patronus. While we know that Harrys Patronus is a stag, many fans don’t know what Draco’s is. However, it has since been revealed that Draco is unable to conjure one.

This is apparently a common trait among Death Eaters, as many fans believe that they don’t have enough light and goodness to summon one.

While it has been established that Draco is capable of feeling love, this may not enough to produce the special charm. J. K. Rowling has also mentioned that Death Eaters are unable to produce a Patronus because Voldemort controls Dementors anyway.

Its Design Is Unusual In Almost Every Respect

Every Single Wand Core Type (ALL 20) – Harry Potter Explained

Virtually every detail of the Elder Wand hints at something unique or exceptional by a wandmakers standards.

Elder wood is not a favoured material in wand-making. However, it is still included in Garrick Ollivanders notes:

Only a highly unusual person will find their perfect match in elder, and on the rare occasion when such a pairing occurs, I take it as certain that the witch or wizard in question is marked out for a special destiny.Wand Woods: Writing by J.K. Rowling

Stranger still, the Elder Wands core substance is Thestral hair. There are no Ollivander notes to go by it wasnt a material he chose to work with but we do know that Thestrals have a strong connection with death, plus the magical properties of invisibility, flight and an uncanny ability to find their destination. How this affects the wand is uncertain, but it does hint towards some seriously powerful magic.

Ron Sacrifices Himself For Hermione

As we mentioned, things look grim for Ron and Hermiones relationship for the bulk of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, as they are shown as never having gotten together in multiple alternate realities. However, we do see a huge gesture from Ron when he literally gives his life for Hermione.

In one of these terrible alternate realities, Harry has been taken out and Voldemort rules the world. Dementors chase down dissenting wizards, and in one instance, they are closing in on Ron and Hermione. The injured Ron has a chance to run away but instead sticks by Hermiones side, choosing to lose his life with with her rather than abandon her.

It seems like even when reality tears them apart, Ron is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for Hermione.

He Is Supposedly One Of The Only Death Eaters Who Can Love

Death Eaters are more ingrained to respond with acts of hate than love. This is hardly surprising, though, considering the amount of carnage and havoc that they have created. However, what is surprising is that even though Draco is a Death Eater, he is supposedly capable of feeling genuine love.

This love manifests itself towards both his parents and his future wife, Astoria Greengrass. This is at odds with the other Death Eaters, whose hate trumps their love. Be it Bellatrix Lestrange or Lucius Malfoy, these individuals are consumed by their service to the Dark Lord. While it could be argued that they love Voldemort, this is closer to worship than a romantic or platonic love.
