The unscripted reunion features Tom Felton , Imelda Staunton , Matthew Lewis , Gary Oldman and Robbie Coltrane among others.

“One of my favourite fates that we could never have ever imagined for the Harry Potter films but that I have been told by several friends is that they are fantastic when people are hungover and feeling really crappy about themselves,” said Radcliffe, 32. “That is so lovely to me. That is the real world effect that a film can have on someone’s life. I think that is great.”

How Licensing Deals Work With Streaming Services

Basically, when a streaming service gets the rights to a film series like Harry Potter, it can happen one of two ways: either those rights are pre-negotiated when the film is in theaters, or those rights can be purchased after the fact when someone elses agreement expires. Harry Potter fans would be quite familiar with that second path, as the films used to run on Freeform for some time, after which they made a quick pitstop on HBO Gos digital library and eventually landed at the NBCUniversal lot. However, theres another interesting phenomenon weve seen happen as of late.

Either a company can buy out those particular streaming rights to its own IP, like Disney+ did with Star Wars, or special temporary deals can be hatched, such as the one that brought Harry Potter onto HBO Max for opening day. In the latter case, which is what were starting to see more of in recent times, the streaming rights were borrowed from NBCUniversal, which as of this moment has the broadcast and cable rights to the Harry Potter movies until 2025. With that agreement expiring soon, it’s back to NBCUniversal the Potter movies go, unless another agreement is drafted or Warner Bros buys back the rights to the films, whichever comes first.

All Eight Harry Potter Films Returning To Hbo Max This September

All eight ‘Harry Potter’ films available to watch on HBO Max from September

Warner Bros.

Just in time for Back to Hogwarts celebrations, all eight Harry Potter films will return to HBO Max from September.

After a brief period of streaming on NBCUniversals streaming site, Peacock, the movies will be available on WarnerMedias HBO Max. The eight movies were originally available on HBO Max for a three month period upon the streaming services launch in May 2020 . It is unclear at this point how long the digital streaming rights for the movies will stay with WarnerMedias HBO Max, and whether fans will have to look for the series in a new home in the not-too-distant future.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald are not included on the list of films being added to HBO Max in September, so fans will seemingly have to look out for the two prequel films elsewhere.

The 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone is this November, so streaming giants will likely have their eyes on the rights to the movies for this period, as fan nostalgia kicks in for the anniversary of the first movie – it is unknown how long WarnerMedias HBO Max will keep the films for this time around.

Where To Watch The Harry Potter Movies Online

‘Harry Potter’ TV Series in Early Development at HBO Max | THR News

In the U.S., the eight movies spent most of 2021 moving between two streaming services: Peacock and HBO Max.

The reasons for that is due to previous deals Harry Potter studio Warner Bros made with NBCUniversal to give it the rights to air the films on its numerous TV channels.

Things became more complicated, however, when both services launched streaming services, so the two companies decided to simply alternate who got to stream the films.

Now, however, the companies seem to have come to a compromise that likely works better for the fans. As of December 2021, both HBO Max and Peacock are both streaming all eight films.

Which service offers the cheapest way to watch the films?

Technically, Peacock. Though viewers cannot watch the films of the streamer’s free tier, the service costs a third of what HBO Max costs$4.99 a month compared to $14.99.

Both services technically offer a seven-day free trial, though you will have to sign up to HBO Max through Hulu to get one for that streamer.

HBO Max may be the pricier option, but it is offering other Potter content in an attempt to lure fans away from the cheaper home of the films.

HBO Max is the service airing the reunion, and on January 1 is also launching game show Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses, which for some reason is hosted by Helen Mirren.

All Eight Harry Potter Films Headed To Hbo Max In June

All eight Harry Potter films are headed back to HBO Max in June – the first time they’ve been available since leaving the streaming service last August. HBO made the announcement today as part of its larger posting about everything coming to HBO Max in June. Although it wasn’t immediately clear in that initial press announcement, representatives from HBO Max have since confirmed that the Harry Potter saga will only be on the streaming service for the month of June. Even with that limited engagement, fans will be psyched that there will be a massive block of binge-worthy movies to watch from home, as summer 2021 kicks off, and movie theaters endure what is hopefully the last slow-roll before crowds come back in droves.

Here are the synopses for all eight Harry Potter films, below. They will debut on HBO Max starting June 1st:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Harry Potter thinks that he is an ordinary boy. But on his eleventh birthday, he finally discovered who he really is and he learns that his mum and dad were wizards and witches. Then he realized that he was lucky to survive. Since then, he became a famous person in his new school. In between, a mysterious giant came and gave him a letter telling that he was one of the chosen ones to the school. Therefore he became happy to start a new life and ready to adjust to his new school. As a result, in the school he met two friends, one friend is smart the other one is kind.

How To Watch Every Harry Potter Movie

HBO Max now has all of the “Harry Potter” films accessible to view. However, since the films regularly switch between a few different streaming platforms, they won’t be available on HBO Max permanently.

The ad-supported HBO Max tier is $10 per month, while the ad-free option is $15 per month. All HBO customers get access to the “Harry Potter” films, but only HBO Max subscribers have access to current in-theater releases like “Reminiscence.”

Despite the fact that HBO Max no longer provides a free trial on its website, Hulu subscribers may receive a one-week trial of the HBO Max add-on. Customers who have never signed up for HBO Max previously are eligible for the trial.

Hbo Max Execs Are As Frustrated As You Are That They Dont Have Harry Potter

If only Warner Bros. executives had a Time-Turner to go back to 2016 and avoid selling off the digital rights to the Harry Potter franchise to NBCUniversal. As expected, Warner Bros. forthcoming streaming service, HBO Max, will not feature any Harry Potter films at launchdespite the Wizarding World accounting for 9 of the studios top 20 highest-grossing movies of all time.

Harry Potter is tied up with another programming group, Michael Quigley, the executive vice president of content acquisitions at TNT, TBS, TruTV, HBO, and HBO Max, said Wednesday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California.

In hindsight, maybe Warner Bros. executives would now consider the perfect new home for Harry, Ron, and Hermione to be HBO Max. The companys streaming platform, set to launch in May at a price point of $15 per month, will house hundreds of classic Warner Bros. films and numerous television shows produced by the studiobut not what has arguably been Warner Bros. crowning box office achievement for nearly the last 20 years.

What does this mean to the consumer? More logins, more monthly bills, more confusionat least until some of the existing contracts run out.

Harry Potter Series In Development For HBO Max??? | SJU

The Harry Potter case is unique in that its a relatively recent franchise whose path has been easy to track. The films, produced by Warner Bros. since the first movie debuted in 2001, were leased to Disney for the TV rights. Warner can still get a lot of money for the franchise long after it has left theaters by licensing it for the small screen. The movies wound up on ABC Family and proved so popular that the channel became famous for Harry Potter Weekend.

When the contract with Disney was close to expiring, in 2016, NBCUniversal stepped in and outbid the House of Mouse, gaining the rights to the rebranded Wizarding World Weekends, on Syfy and USA, through 2025.

As HBO Maxs debut date grew closer, Warner executives openly bemoaned this decision and the inability to get Potter back for another five years. Articles ran as little as a week before HBO Maxs launch explaining to fans why Harry Potter would not be among the streamers offerings.

But then, surprise! On launch day, all eight films showed up. Clearly, there was some last-minute behind-the-scenes deal for Warner to get its own product back, though no one would give details.
