Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle 4842

Massive LEGO Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Castle COMPLETE (4709 From 2001)

Did I mention theres been a bunch of different Hogwarts Castle sets? Here we have the 4th edition from 2010. While its not the biggest, it looks amazing and comes in at nealy 1,300 pieces . All of the minifigs youd hope to have are in the box, including Harry, Ron, Hermione, Dumbledor, Snape, even the Dark Lord himself, Voldemort. This one is certainly difficult to find, so youll need to spend some time on eBay to make sure you can find the 4842 version. Your set wouldnt be complete without it!

Adding Detailing To External Structures

The foundation of the castles takes up the largest part of this set. To keep the part count low rather than building up the foundation using small bricks the designers used big ugly rock pieces. To get details slopes in a variety of colors and sizes are then added. This design gives off the impression that it is entirely built up when it isnt. This simple yet complex design allows lots of detail to adorn the façade of the rock face while also being sturdy. Due to the repeated look and lots of similar parts being used when building this up it is easy to make mistakes. As the instructions do arent always clear while building you may struggle to see where to add wedges. This is all part of the fun though.

Large plates are placed on top of the rock face to finalize the structural soundness of the build. These plates hold everything together with internal support being built underneath of view. In addition miniature trees that are built along the side of the rocky base. By inverting 2018s Plant Flower Stem part the designers give a pine tree aesthetic to this miniature tree.

Wedges and slopes litter the side of the façade.

Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle 5378

Okay, this is getting to be a bit ridiculous, is it not? Were already looking at the fourth Hogwarts Castle LEGO set, and were not even done yet. The 5378 version was retired quite a while back, so youre bound to pay a premium for this version. If youre like me though, you want as many of these sets as you can possibly justify buying. This version of the Hogwarts Castle contains 943 pieces, and while it isnt as impressive as some of the others, its still pretty solid. Is it worth the price tag though? Youll have to be the judge of that one.

One minute in The Burrow, the next in a frankly scary shop named Borgin and Burkes in the shady Knockturn Alley. With spiders, growing heads, weird gems, and strange liquids, navigate a frightened Harry away from the Dark Arts filled store and its shop owner. This 209-piece set was originally released in 2003 to capture the darker side of wizarding shopping and has since been retired. The LEGO set is necessary to complete any Diagon Alley scene, adding that darker edge to the story.

Years Of Lego Harry Potter

LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle #71043

We are getting close to the 20th anniversary of the Harry Potter cinematic franchise, so lets cast our nostalgic minds back to where LEGO Harry Potter all began. I remember back to Christmas of 2001 opening up #4709 Hogwarts Castle and marveling at how great that set was. I had the same experience 17 years later with #71043 Hogwarts Castle, a much bigger set boasting nearly ten times as many parts.

#4709 Hogwarts Castle.

The LEGO Harry Potter line began in 2001 with the cinematic release of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, with annual LEGO set releases through the cinematic conclusion in 2011s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. One of the last sets released in that wave was #10217 Diagon Alley, an intricately detailed set that is popular with adult fans that was only available from LEGO brand stores. While the series was on its way out, it set a higher bar for LEGO sets based on the Harry Potter world.

Christmas at Hogwarts, what could be more magical? This 305-piece LEGO Harry Potter themed advent calendar gives a magical surprise each day, recreating the memorable moments from the epic story. One of my favorites is the, as Hermione claimed, barbaric wizards chess scene. Also included are seven minifigures with Christmas sweater Ron and Harry, Hermione, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, and more! Even Hagrids magical Christmas trees made this set. If youre looking to add a little magic to your advent calendar or to capture the innocence of the first film in your burgeoning LEGO collecting, this set is required!

The Room Of Requirement

Complete Harry Potter LEGO Hogwarts Castle

The Room of Requirement first appears in 5378 Hogwarts Castle in 2007, it has a wand holder, and a practice target for the D.A. meetings, in the roof is a owlrey and rat, it also has Hogwarts banners. The room holds together to make one building. In 4867 Hogwarts it is remade and has two portraits of wizards and also includes Lucius Malfoy with his Death Eater form to resemble the practice dummy seen in the film.

LEGO provides tons of different kits for fans of Harry Potter to enjoy. These building kits range in size, from several hundred pieces to several thousand pieces. Fans of any age will find joy in constructing scenes featuring the Hogwarts castle. Many of these sets are also collectible, and they will give you the extra spark of magic you always imagined from Hogwarts.

What comes included in a Hogwarts building kit?

Depending on the kit you choose, you may receive many different objects. Smaller kits may only include the necessary supplies to build the creation. Each kit should also include an instruction guide. With larger kits, you may receive the following:

  • A step-by-step guide on how to successfully complete the kit

Rooms In The Basement Of The Castle

The final details that are added to the base are the Room of Requirement along with Snapes potions classroom. None of these two rooms are situated where they should be in the real castle unfortunately. The first of the two rooms is designed to mirror the view of the room of requirements in the Half-Blood Prince movie. If you look at the room it seems to be filled with a large assortment of boxes and furniture. Should you have a keen eye you can see the vanishing cabinet located at the back-right hand corner.

Snapes potion room on the other hand is designed very meticulously and shows the importance of stickers in this set. This room is also a perfect example where getting scale correct is difficult. Along the back wall we see a vibrant array of colors representing flasks and potions, making for a pretty view. Despite the beauty none of these are at nanofigure scale, something that is accentuated by the potions on the stickers at the back wall. This room is tightly packed with chairs, a cauldron and a flask dotted, making it difficult to place a large number of characters into it.

What Should I Look For In A Lego Kit For Adults

Lego sets for adults come in all shapes and forms, so the best choice for you really depends on your interests. Some of the best Lego sets for adults are those that act as sort of souvenirs of the places you’ve been. There are kits depicting famous landmarks like the White House, the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal, the Disney Castle, the Empire State Building, and even Old Trafford, home of Manchester United Football Club. There are also kits that allow you to build iconic locales that you probably won’t ever visit, like the Lego International Space Station.

Theres also a Lego art line with pieces that are designed to be built and hung on the wall like a framed canvas, and several special series of kits that are particularly fun for adults to put together and show off when completed. The Lego Botanical Collection, for example, allows for the creation of decor that’s actually quite pretty, including brick-built orchids, floral bouquets, and more. Theres the Lego Technic line, as well, that includes lots of cool, true-to-life vehicles like the Bugatti Chiron and Ford Mustang with specialized pieces that create more functionality than your standard Lego brick, including tiny motors and pneumatic elements. Car enthusiasts would also enjoy the Lego creator kit that lets you build the Aston Martin made famous by the James Bond franchise.

Lego Harry Potter Diagon Alley 40289

Lego Harry Potter 4842 Hogwarts Castle

Diagon Alley can be dangerous place for a young wizard. This smaller LEGO version of Diagon Alley is pretty small coming at only 374 pieces, but its still a pretty fun replica of the alley made famous by the Harry Potter series. Its certainly nowhere near as fun as the giant Diagon Alley build, but you might actually be able to afford this one. Not going to lie, I was kind of disappointed when I was done putting it together, but I also knew what I was getting when I bought it.

Encircled with flame the characters have nothing to do, but duel! Grab this set to help defend this iconic home from evil forces.

Dumbledores Tower A Beauty From The Inside And Outside

An immediately noticable structure is Dumbledores tower. This wide tower houses the second-floor girls bathroom, Dumbledores office and the Grand Staircase. All of these are brick built with supporting stickers to add detail. The exterior of the tower adopts similar techniques used in #21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V to provide structure and texture to the cylindrical tower. The designers built up the many levels of the tower using Wall Element 4X4X6 Round. To make it sturdy yet aesthetically appeasing the designers use brackets to add brick-built details to adorn the outside wall.

Dumbledores tower is packed to the brim with details.

When looking at the levels we immediately notice the grand staircase. Despite not being to scale nor mirroring the design in the movies it is recognizable. These movable stairs allow you to position them however you desire giving access to a variety of rooms. The most notable room being the Gryffindor common room whose entrance adorns the painting of the Fat Lady. In this set we see a creative technique adopted to add a small yet impactful detail along the base. Rather than leaving parts of the technic structure exposed the designers used pins to attach plates to cover the holes. Then slopes and wedges are placed to add granularity and texture to a part that would normally just be flat.

All technic from the foundation is hidden behind bricks, plates or tiles.

About The Lego Design Team

Not often are we given the privilege to learn about the build and design process behind the sets we are building. The instructions in this set however are very different, giving us two pages of quotes from the team at LEGO who designed the set. It took a team of 10 LEGO employees to bring this set to life. They clearly put a lot of care into this set.

With architecture at the forefront of LEGO Designer Justin Ramsdens mind, a variety of new building parts were designed. Justin addresses this by saying I cant wait to see the new building opportunities that they bring to the LEGO building system. The part count, 6020, is significant to Justin as it pays homage to set #6020 Magic Shop that inspired him to become a LEGO designer.

I cant wait to see the new building opportunities that they bring to the LEGO building system.

These rare glimpses into the LEGO design process shed light into how things are done. This allows builders to learn about the design process while highlighting the hard work that goes into each set. Fun and interesting facts that will not spoil can be found in these first few pages in the instructions, however for those who chose to not pick up this set, the pages below will allow you to read about the Design Team and learn how design choices here also applies to other LEGO sets for you to enjoy.

Lego Harry Potter Electric Hogwarts Express 10132

LEGO Harry Potter UCS HOGWARTS CASTLE 71043 BrickQueen Full Review

Full disclaimer: Im a sucker for electric train sets, and this one just so happens to combine an electric train with LEGO Harry Potter. Honestly, what could be better? Theres a handful of LEGO Hogwarts Express train sets, but none is more difficult to find than the 10132 set released in 2004. So rare that you cant even reliably find it on Amazon, and sellers on eBay are routinely looking for $1,000+. If youre lucky enough to snag one, youll realize just how much of a gem this set is. The LEGO 10132 Hogwarts Express train has 706 pieces, but the fact that its an electric LEGO Harry Potter train set makes it worthy of your attention. If you dont feel like taking out a second mortgage, there are certainly other options. But youre here because you wanted the best of the best, right?

Scaling The Side Walls Of Hogwarts Castle

At first glance the hallway above the basement may look like a plain hallway but there are details hidden in Hogwarts hallways. The majority of details are done through use of stickers just in other portions in this set. The hallway makes good use of stickers for the entrance to the Room of Requirement and the words scrawled in blood on the wall. Something that would have been difficult to do with printed parts. Unfortunately there are also small brick stickers that I deem unnecessary, especially as 1×2 bricks with brick wall texture existing.

Mystery is lurking just around the corner.

Moving up the side wall of the castle, we see the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. Unlike the previous rooms, rather than brick-built details the strength in detail for room comes mostly from the stickers. On the walls we see the pixies released in the second movie and at the front we see equipment to practice against a boggart along. Just like any classroom there is also a projector so that students can view slides. Despite wanting more brick-built elements here, at the scale we have available the designers incorporate just enough stickers to not overwhelm the build.

In Defense of the Dark Arts class wizards and witches learn to defend themselves.

I WILL have order! Dolores Umbridge.

Goblet Of Fire Graveyard Duel 4766

The duel is on with minifigures of a beleaguered Harry and the newly minted Lord Voldemort, both wielding Fawkes phoenix tail wands. Also included are Death Eaters Wormtail and masked Lucius Malfoy.
