Master 11 told me that kids are supposed to get their Harry Potter letter the week before their 11th birthday. His letter arrived exactly a week AFTER his birthday, so take my advice order it at least a MONTH before their 11th birthday if you want to make sure they get it in time. You then will have the pleasure of stashing it and figuring out how they will find it.

- Order or purchase parchment paper Printing the letter on standard white paper might make your letter look crummy. Use parchment paper available in most craft stores in different sizes. Use this type of paper to make your letter look cooler and more authentic.
- Create a cool envelope Go online and search for websites that offer really cool Hogwarts envelopes. Just download the image and print the envelope of your choice. If you prefer to type the address manually, you can easily do that using word processing software. As for the wax seal, you can also print this out and glue it on the envelope. An even better idea is to print it on a sheet of sticker paper and stick it on the back of the envelope.
- Print a ticket for Platform 9-3/4 What you have so far accomplished will look really nice in full gold and other colors. But even with just parchment paper printed in black and white, it can look just as good while saving you a lot of ink. For an added finishing touch, draw an owl on a balloon with markers then wrap the letter in twine, and attach it to the owl balloon. Just practice care because the balloon might pop while you draw the owl or if it rubs against twine.

How To Make Coffee Paper Step By Step:
- One way is to use a large oven dish or basin with a little coffee, placed in the tub, shower, or sink. Dip the sheets and hang to dry. Another way is to work flat and apply the coffee with a roller or paintbrush. Let them dry flat or hang as well.
- Regular paper will rip a lot faster when wet than thick paper or cardstock. However, when handled carefully, even thin paper can totally work. Hanging to dry is best reserved for heavier cardstock. When working with thin paper, lay the sheets flat on a plastic table cloth or painting tarp, apply the coffee with a paintbrush, and let them dry in place.
- The coffee needs to be strong. Stronger than you normally make, even if you drink the strongest coffee of everyone you know. Muuuch stronger.

How The Hogwarts Letter Is Delivered
The letter is written on parchment paper and delivered to the recipient by owl, except in the case of Muggle-borns, where the acceptance letter is delivered in person by a member of the Hogwarts faculty, a special messenger, who explains everything to the student and parents.
In the movie, Harry Potters initial acceptance letter was delivered by regular Muggle post, as Vernon and Petunia Dursley were aware of the existence of the wizarding world and Hogwarts. My son fully expected an owl to deliver his letter
Hogwarts is able to magically tell whether or not a child has read his or her Hogwarts letter, as evidenced by the bombardment of 4 Privet Drive with letters, despite at least one of them having been opened and read by Vernon and Petunia Dursley.
Make And Attach The Owl
For an extra finishing touch draw an owl onto a balloon with a sharpie and wrap the letter in twine and attach the two. You could if you dont trust your drawing skills. The balloons sometimes pop while drawing the owl or rubbing against the twine so be prepared so you dont have a heart attack when it happens. I didnt draw these owls but my friend who co-hosted our Harry Potter party with me did and she said these owls were surprisingly easy to draw.

The Hogwarts Letter For 11 Year Olds
The Hogwarts letter is a letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry sent to wizards and witches prior to their first year at Hogwarts. A special quill exists which writes down the name of every magical child at the time of their birth.
This allows Hogwarts letters to be sent to all magical children at the appropriate time, even those who are Muggle-born. The Hogwarts letter consists of a note of acceptance from the Deputy Headmaster or Headmistress of Hogwarts and a list of required textbooks and materials for the school year.

Introducing the Art Department takes place over February half term, and is a chance to meet the artists, designers and illustrators who created the parts of the films that you’ve probably never even thought about. Daily Prophet newspapers and the packaging for Bertie Bott’s Beans are just some of the aspects of the Wizarding World they’ve brought to life, helping to make the films the roaring success that they are.
See the technical drawings and early sketches for some of the props, with the original filmmakers on hand to explain them further. They’ll even magic up wands in front of your eyes, as they reveal how thousands of them were made for the films. And, you can confirm with them whether your own Hogwarts letter really did just get lost in the post.
Introducing the Art Department runs for 11 days, and is part of the Studio Tour, which also includes a chance to visit Hogwarts’ Great Hall, Gringotts Wizarding Bank and Diagon Alley.

Using Coffee To Get The Look
Guess how I made the background for that first printable Harry Potter letter template?
Its white card stock drenched in coffee.
If you prefer getting a little messy over fidgeting with printer settings to get a proper recto-verso setup, then making your own parchment paper with coffee is an excellent way to go!
Bonus: youll also use up less of the ink cartridges if printing at home.
Coffee works great to achieve the perfect effect. All you need is strong coffee and some time. As a last last-minute project, this wont work.
Once dried properly, you may also want to give the sheet some time under a stack of heavy books.
