It’s Not Clear How The Snatchers Find The Trio In Deathly Hallows
In “Deathly Hallows,” Voldemort puts a jinx on his own name in order to trace any wizard who uses it because he knows that the trio, Dumbledore’s Army, and the Order of the Phoenix are the only wizards who would dare speak his name out loud.
In the book, the trio is caught twice because of this jinx: first while escaping Bill and Fleur’s wedding and then again when they’re hiding in the forest looking for Horcruxes.
In the film, they are also attacked in the same instances, but the movie avoids explaining the jinx on Voldemort’s name. The Death Eaters and snatchers just happen to find their hiding places with no explanation.
You Realise Harry Is Actually Terrible With Girls
Alright, so theres a moment in the movies in which Harry drools while trying to catch Chos eye, but for the most part, Harry didnt do too badly with the ladies on screen. During Order of the Phoenix , Cho and Harry got together pretty seamlessly, and broke up when Harry suspected Cho of betraying Dumbledores Army.
Upon reading the book, however, it quickly transpires it wasnt that simple. Harry struggled to be a good boyfriend to Cho, who was crying a lot of the time , and they endured a positively disastrous Valentines Day date which ended with Cho storming out. Harry both managed to offend her about Cedric and suggest they go and hang out with another girl halfway through their date. So not so suave after all.

Ghosts have taken over England, but only young people can see and eradicate them in Jonathan Strouds five-book Lockwood and Co. series. Narrated by 15-year-old Lucy Carlyle, these action-packed books have all the humor and heart of the Harry Potter series, and a good deal of the mystery and suspense as well.

And like Harry Potter, this series is no less delightful just because it was written with a younger reader in mind, raves another reader.

Last appearance: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1”
After a stint as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and High Inquisitor at Hogwarts, Umbridge returned to the Ministry full-time by “Deathly Hallows.”
Her final movie line came as she was interrogating a Muggle-born witch as Senior Undersecretary to the Minister for Magic.
She asks Harry, who’s posing as Albert Runcorn, “What on Earth are you doing, Albert,” before he stuns her.
But in the seventh book, her final line is an explanation of the Horcrux locket she’s wearing during the hearing, and specifically how it ties her to a line of powerful, pure-blood wizards.
Harry Doesn’t Actually Have His Mother’s Eyes In The Movies
Several characters throughout the series remind Harry that he has his mother’s eyes, which are described as bright green in the book. But the actor who plays Harry, Daniel Radcliffe, has blue eyes.
It turns out Radcliffe had a bad reaction to the colored contact lenses the filmmakers were planning to use, so they just let it go.
Other characters got slight physical changes in the films as well, including Percy Weasley not wearing glasses and Aunt Petunia having black hair instead of blonde.

Fluffy’s Origin Story Is Wrong In The First Movie
After the kids discover Fluffy the massive three-headed dog tasked with guarding the Sorcerer’s Stone Hagrid tells them that he bought the creature from a “Greek chappie.”
This makes sense because Fluffy is believed to be inspired by Cerberus, a three-headed dog who guarded the gates of the underworld.
However, in the movie, Hagrid claims to have bought him from an “Irish feller.” The change isn’t huge, but it doesn’t make much sense either.

Hermione Granger In Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone
In the first book, J.K. Rowling describes Hermione Granger as having lots of bushy brown hair. Movies 2 through 8 take some liberties with that description, but Sorcerers Stone nails it. Her hair is bushy to the point that you can barely see Emma Watsons face in the midst of it. And it perfectly embodies the nerdy bookworm archetypeyou can almost hear it correcting your pronunciation of leviosa. This version of Hermione, with this haircut, is how I will always picture the character in my mind. No Harry Potter haircut is better.
An earlier version of this story misstated Bellatrix Lestranges actions toward Nevilles parents. She tortured them but did not kill them.
His Last Line Is Spoken To George
Last appearance: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2”
In Fred’s last film line, he responds to George’s question about him being OK and says, “Yeah.”
Fred and George are standing side by side getting ready to fight, and the next time Fred is shown on screen, he’s already dead.
In the book, Fred’s last lines are spent marveling over his estranged brother Percy joining them for the fight and cracking a joke.
He’s described as gleefully saying, “You actually are joking, Perce … I don’t think I’ve heard you joke since you were ” immediately before his death.

Harry Potter And The Half
In the sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry enters a tumultuous puberty that, Rowling says, is based on her and her younger sister’s own difficult teenage years. Rowling also made an intimate statement about Harry’s personal life: “Because of the demands of the adventure that Harry is following, he has had less sexual experience than boys of his age might have had.” This inexperience with romance was a factor in Harry’s failed relationship with Cho. Now his thoughts concern Ginny, and a vital plot point in the last chapter includes Harry ending their budding romance to protect her from Voldemort.
This book also focuses on the mysterious activities of Harry’s rival Draco Malfoy. Voldemort has coerced a frightened Malfoy into attempting to kill Dumbledore. During a duel in Moaning Myrtle‘s bathroom, Harry uses the Half-Blood Prince’s spell, Sectumsempra, on Malfoy, who suffers near-fatal injuries as a result. Harry is horrified by what he has done and also comes to feel sympathy for Draco, after learning he was forced to do Voldemort’s bidding under the threat of his and his parents’ deaths.
Unsurprisingly Voldemort’s First Line Is A Command

Voldemort first appears in the flashback scene of Harry’s parents’ death, but he doesn’t speak until later in the film when he’s using Professor Quirrell as a host body.
His face is situated on the back of the professor’s head, and he orders Quirrell to “use the boy” to get the Sorcerer’s Stone out of the Mirror of Erised.
This is his first line in the book as well.

Oliver Wood’s First Lines Are About Quidditch
First appearance: “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”
As the Gryffindor quidditch captain, it’s fitting that Oliver Wood’s first line is about the wizard sport.
He starts Harry’s first lesson by saying, “Quidditch is easy enough to understand.”
In the book, he has a few lines when McGonagall first introduces him to Harry and tells him that she’s found his new Seeker, starting with, “Are you serious, Professor?”

His Last Lines Are Spoken To His Son

Harry’s last lines in the movie are directed at his son during the epilogue scene.
He reassures Albus Severus that it doesn’t matter if he’s sorted into Gryffindor or Slytherin, and says, “The Sorting Hat takes your choice into account.”
This conversation happens in the book, but he has another line after directed at Ginny.
When his wife says their son will be all right at Hogwarts, Harry responds, “I know he will.”
But Not All The Effects In The Harry Potter Movies Were Computer Generated
Animatronics were made for the actors to interact with on set, including baby mandrakes, Hedwig, the Monster Book of Monsters, and Buckbeak, which was used on-set for close ups. He could stare at you, his eyes could follow you, he could bow, and every one of his feathers was dyed and put in by hand, Newquist told PopMech. There are tens of thousands of them, and they look absolutely gorgeous. Other creatures were built to give the animators reference for lighting, like the giant Jack-in-the-Box from Prisoner of Azkaban and house elf Kreacher.

We Never See How Bill Weasley Really Got His Scars
At the end of the “Half-Blood Prince” book, there’s a battle at Hogwarts after Dumbledore’s death.
Members of the Order of the Phoenix, including Bill Weasley, show up to fight the Death Eaters, and during the fight, Bill gets attacked by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback.
Bill gets away with just a scar and some side effects since Greyback hadn’t fully transitioned before attacking him.
This battle doesn’t exist in the movie and Bill was removed from the “Goblet of Fire,” “Order of the Phoenix,” and “Half-Blood Prince” films so in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” the character is both introduced to Harry for the first time and has to explain that he fought a werewolf named Greyback.
Moony Wormtail Padfoot And Prongs
- The story of Lupin’s connection to the Shrieking Shack and Whomping Willow is omitted.
- In the novel, Snape appears in the Shrieking Shack after pulling off the Invisibility Cloak, but in the film, as the trio didn’t bring the cloak with them, Snape appears visible and is seen when he disarms Sirius.
- Also, in the film, Snape disarms Sirius with Lupin’s wand since Lupin passed it to him when Sirius was so wanting to kill Pettigrew. In the novel, Lupin never gave his wand to Sirius, so Snape never disarms the latter.
