Weekend Estimates: Coco Gives Disney Another Thanksgiving Win
Coco will easily top the box office chart this Thanksgiving weekend, with Disney projecting a $71 million 5-day opening, including $49 million from Friday to Sunday. Thats the fourth-best Thanksgiving opening of all time, behind Frozen , Moana , and Toy Story 2 . In all, Disney lays claim to 10 of the top 11 opening weekends over this holiday period, although, to be fair, the Hunger Games and Harry Potter franchises both claim several spots in the higher reaches of the Thanksgiving weekend record chart, but were just playing in their second weekend, rather than opening.

Harry Potter has been enchanting audiences for years whether you’re a fan of the book series, or it was the films that captured your imagination, Harry Potter is a staple throughout collective, international culture. Beloved Actor Verne Troyer Who Brought Harry Potter’s Griphook To Life Died In 2018
Harry Potter features wizards, witches, creatures, elves, mythical animals you name it and one such role within the series is Griphook, a goblin who works at Gringott’s Wizarding Bank, played by the legendary actor Verne Troyer. As noted by The Washington Post, Troyer was not only known for playing Griphook, as his performance in Austin Powers also had a major impact on the entertainment industry.;
However, Troyer’s fame and success could not keep him away from harmful habits, and he developed an addiction to alcohol.;”As you know, I’ve battled alcohol addiction in the past,” he wrote on social media in 2017 . “While it’s not always been an easy fight, I’m willing to continue my fight day by day.” On April 21, 2018, Troyer died after being admitted to the hospital for alcohol abuse. His family later shared that he had other “battles,” including suicidal tendencies and depression an announcement later revealed that he had died from multiple organ failure.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is doing everything Warner Bros. could have wished for this weekend, posting a lively $75 million opening in the US, hitting $143.3 million internationally for a global opening over $200 million, and getting a A CinemaScore that should give it positive word of mouth going into Thanksgiving. Of course, Cedric Diggory is not the main focus of the fourth;Potter;movie but is a crucial element to it. Many fans remain disappointed at the lack of tournament we get to see, which is a fair criticism. However, this movie, set in Harry’s fourth year, is another solid entry to the franchise.

Differences From The Book
At 766 pages in the British edition and 870 in the American edition, Order of the Phoenix is the longest book in the Harry Potter series, however the film is the second shortest. Screenwriter Michael Goldenberg described his task to cut down the novel as searching for “the best equivalent way to tell the story. My job was to stay true to the spirit of the book, rather than to the letter”. Goldenberg said that Rowling told him, the producers, and Yates that “she just wanted to see a great movie, and gave permission to take whatever liberties felt needed to take to translate the book into a movie she would love”. Cutting down the book to meet the time frame of the film, Goldenberg explained, became “clearer when figured out that the organising principle of the screenplay was to narrate Harry’s emotional journey”. He and Yates “looked for every opportunity to get everything could in there. And where couldn’t, to sort of pay homage to it, to have it somewhere in the background or to feel like it could be taking place off-screen”.
Rita Skeeter, the journalist played by Miranda Richardson in Goblet of Fire, was also removed. In the book, Hermione blackmails her into writing an article that supports Harry as the rest of the Wizarding world denies his claims. Richardson noted that “it’s never gonna be the book on film, exactly. … They’ll take certain aspects from the book and make it something that they hope is going to be commercial and that people want to see”.

Its Thanksgiving long weekend, which means many studios are closed and are not reporting official numbers. However, one of the studios that is reporting numbers is Disney and they are reporting record-breaking numbers. Ralph Breaks the Internet earned $18.5 million on Wednesday, which is significantly more than either Coco or Moana managed the previous two years. In fact, this is more than Frozen managed during its record-breaking wide expansion back in 2013.
