Fans Have Questions About Severus Snape’s Behavior Throughout Harry Potter

Severus Snape | Important Scenes in Chronological Order

In the fifth book and film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Snape is tasked with a new job in addition to his responsibilities as Potions master when Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore asks him to work alone with Harry. Per Dumbledore’s instructions, Snape tries to teach Harry the art of Occlumency so that Voldemort can stop accessing Harry’s unconscious mind if you know anything about Snape and Harry’s relationship, you can roughly guess how poorly this goes.

In the process, Snape accidentally accesses several of Harry’s memories, including instances of abuse at the hands of his awful Muggle relatives… and Harry manages to see some of Snape’s, which depict an equally unhappy childhood. Eventually, Harry discovers a hidden memory in Snape’s office where James relentlessly bullies and abuses Snape, at which point Snape abruptly ends their Occlumency lessons.

However, this raises an important question: why wouldn’t Snape show a little more understanding and mercy to Harry after seeing that they both had fairly miserable childhoods? Instead, based solely on James’ behavior which isn’t Harry’s fault Snape simply abuses this young boy. Ultimately, this points to a larger, more concerning trend: Snape’s unwillingness to emotionally connect or develop in any way.

Severus Snape: Who Is Who In Harry Potter

23 June, 2020

Severus Snape is one of the most intriguing characters in the Harry Potter saga. Rowling fooled us all, making us believe that Snape was a real villain and that all he wanted was for Harry to suffer. However, she had a huge secret prepared that change everything. Alan Rickman, the actor who brought the character to life, was the only one privileged to know the truth about the Potions professor.

We all shed a few tears when we discovered that, after all this time, Snape still loved Harrys mother Lily and that, in fact, everything he had done was to ensure the young mans safety. That part of the story where we finally understand everything Snape has done, and where we realize why Dumbledore had protected him so much, has become one of the most applauded by fans of the saga.

Snape has carved out a place for himself among the most remembered and loved characters in the saga. But those words and that moving scene hide something else, something much deeper that Rowling has let us catch a glimpse of throughout her seven books. Are some of the characters real heroes? Is there such a thing as pure goodness?

Snape works a bit like Dumbledores antithesis. For a long time, we thought that, without a doubt, Dumbledore was the good guy and Snape was the bad guy. However, the roles of good and evil seem to blur over time. Thus, were faced with the question: Who really is who in Harry Potter?

‘harry Potter’ Star Alan Rickman Was One Of The Only People Who Knew How Snape’s Story Ended From ‘very Early’ On And ‘never Told Anyone’ According To Daniel Radcliffe

  • Alan Rickman knew Snape’s future during early “Harry Potter” filming, Daniel Radcliffe said.

  • Not even director Chris Columbus knew what was going to happen, Radcliffe said.

  • When asked about acting choices tied to Snape’s fate, Rickman would say “I’ll tell you later.”

Alan Rickman was one of the only people to know what laid ahead for his “Harry Potter” character Severus Snape, Daniel Radcliffe said.

During a conversation with Gary Oldman, who played Sirius Black, in the “Return to Hogwarts” 20th anniversary reunion special on HBO Max, Radcliffe said that Rickman had the “inside line” into Snape’s future during the filming of the first two “Harry Potter” films.

While Snape spends much of the series as an antagonist who Harry and his friends constantly suspect of colluding with Voldemort, he reveals himself later to have been a double agent who helped protect Harry out of love for his mother, Lily.

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child

When Draco and Astoria Greengrass‘ son Scorpius Malfoy finds himself in an alternate timeline in which Voldemort won the Battle of Hogwarts, killed Harry and his allies and instituted a terrible reign of terror, he desperately searches for help in restoring history to its original course. He finds that in this reality Snape is still alive and still teaches at Hogwarts, and asks for his help. At first Snape is suspicious of him, since this timeline’s version of Scorpius is a bully and a Voldemort stalwart. But when Scorpius shows that he knows of Snape having been in love with Lily, Harry’s mother Snape’s most closely guarded secret Snape becomes convinced that he does indeed come from a different timeline where Harry and his friends won. Snape then reveals that he, together with the fugitive Ron and Hermione Granger, maintain the last remnants of Dumbledore’s Army still waging hopeless resistance against the all-powerful Voldemort. In talking with Scorpius, Snape had learned that Harry would name his son “Albus Severus” and would regard Snape as “probably the bravest man I ever knew” and is deeply moved. Though having guessed that in the other timeline he would die, Snape nevertheless willingly helps Scorpius recreate this timeline and being discovered by Dementors, Snape sacrifices himself in order to cover Scorpius’ escape.

El Aorado Alan Rickman Estuvo A Punto De No Meterse En La Piel De Severus Snape Una Decisin Que Sin Duda Habra Tenido Un Impacto En La Saga Porque Su Papel Es Magnfico

Alan Rickman dead: Professor Snape from

Robbie Coltrane Played The Gentle Rubeus Hagrid

Rubeus Hagrid is the Hogwarts groundskeeper and a friend and ally to Harry, Ron, and Hermione throughout the novels. Hagrid is kind, caring, and loyal, though he’s not particularly bright and frequently gets himself into sticky situations. Hagrid’s compassion and courage were perfectly portrayed by Robbie Coltrane.

At 185cm tall, Coltrane was not quite a giant, but his onscreen presence allowed him to tower over the children while still appearing unthreatening. Coltrane’s portrayal of Hagrid helped him become as beloved by fans as he is today.

The Small Snape Detail You Likely Missed In Harry Potter

Few film franchises are as fertile a ground for lore, trivia fodder, and Easter eggs as the “Harry Potter” series. Over the course of eight movies 11 if you count the first two “Fantastic Beasts” films and the forthcoming “Secrets of Dumbledore” sequel more characters have been introduced, more stories told, and more bread crumbs dropped than in just about anything outside of the MCU. And fans have been analyzing, cataloging, and debating it all for more than two decades now.

As one might expect, Severus Snape is a popular subject in this regard. The character is arguably one of the richest ever committed to celluloid and the written page: a person who is simultaneously a contemptible villain, the bravest of heroes, a maven of the mystical arts, and a tortured, fragile soul. His evolution and the backstory that unfolds from “Sorcerer’s Stone” to “Deathly Hallows Part 2” is Shakespearean in its twists and turns, and it was aided in no small part in the movies by Rickman’s portrayal.

Nevertheless, even the biggest fans of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World are likely to have missed a thing or two about Hogwarts’ longtime Potions Master and eventual headmaster, not to mention the actor who brought him to life. In fact, even one of the “Harry Potter” films’ directors missed a key Snape detail that was right there, in plain sight, throughout the series.

Evanna Lynch Related To Luna Lovegood

Evanna Lynch was a massive fan of the Harry Potter novels and movies and found herself relating to Luna Lovegood’s imagination and optimism. When auditions for Luna came around for The Order Of The Phoenix, Lynch decided she had to try out.

Luna Lovegood, nicknamed ‘Loony Lovegood’ by many Hogwarts students, is kind, smart, and misunderstood. Her creativity was often taken as eccentricity by her peers. Lynch perfectly portrayed Luna’s personality, making her a fan-favorite character who makes an impact on Harry and his story.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

In the fifth novel, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Snape returns to a more prominent role. With Voldemort having returned to a fully corporeal body, Snape continues working as a re-doubled agent for Dumbledore. He is seen prior to the start of school at Number 12, Grimmauld Place giving reports to the Order of the Phoenix. He has a very strained relationship with Sirius, who owns Grimmauld Place and must remain there in hiding. The two trade frequent snide remarks and at one point almost begin a duel. Snape taunts Sirius about the latter’s not being able to take an active role in the Order’s missions because of his fugitive status. Harry feels later that this taunting contributed to Sirius’ willingness to take unsafe risks. Back at school, Snape’s allegiance to the Order has no effect on his dislike for Harry.

Later in the book, Dumbledore has Snape teach Harry Occlumency, the protection of the mind from outside intrusion or influence. The sessions are made difficult by their mutual hostility and end prematurely when Harry uses Dumbledore’s Pensieve to view one of Snape’s worst childhood memories without the latter’s permission. He sees the memory of Snape being bullied by James and Sirius, and of calling Harry’s mother Lily a Mudblood . Only in the final book is it revealed that, prior to this confrontation, Snape and Lily had been close friends.

Actor Who Played Young Severus Snape Is Now A Total Babe

With “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” coming out this weekend, we’re on a bit of a Hogwarts high, and now we have even more reason to celebrate: the hotness that is Benedict Clarke.

Who? Oh, just young Severus Snape, that’s who!

At just 15 years old, the young British actor appeared in the 2011 film “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” during a pivotal scene where Harry visits Snape’s memories.

The memories show Harry his mother Lily was actually best friends with Snape when they were children, but Snape, who was in love with Lily, was left heartbroken when she ended up dating and eventually marrying Harry’s father, James. This is why, we find out, Snape has always disliked Harry but always loved Lily until the day he died.

So, this is what Clarke looked like as young Severus:

And this is what he looks like now:

Rickman Was Incredible In The Role

One of the amazing things about the Harry Potter films was each role seemed to be filled by the right person. Alan Rickman could not have been a better fit for the role of Severus Snape, and his legendary performance as the character guaranteed that Snape would be remembered forever.

During his AMA, Roth would touch on Rickmans performance, saying, Alan took it and ran with it and that was that. It was very different from what I was planning to do with the character, and that’s OK.

At this point, it is hard to imagine any other person in this role, and this is because Rickman was brilliant in each scene that he appeared in. These movies are iconic, and if we ever reach the point where they are being remade for a new generation, then the next Severus Snape is going to have a lofty altitude to reach.

Its not often that actors are specifically requested for a role, but it just goes to show how talented Alan Rickman was.

  • It reflects on the films’ legacy, and ends on one of Snape’s most iconic lines: “Always.”

  • The ending functions as a subtle tribute to Alan Rickman, who played Snape and died in 2016.

The “Harry Potter” reunion special’s final moment paid subtle tribute to Alan Rickman, who played Severus Snape in all eight of the franchise’s films and died in 2016.

The special’s final pre-credits moment is an exchange between Dumbledore and Snape that’s cut from the series’ eighth and final film. In the full sequence, Dumbledore reveals to Snape that Harry must die in order to defeat Voldemort. When he asks if Snape has come to care for Harry, Snape summons his patronus a doe, the exact same as that of Harry’s mother Lily, revealing that he still loves her.

“After all this time?” Dumbledore asks.

“Always,” Snape replies.

It’s the final note of the “Return to Hogwarts” special, in which the series’ cast members reflect on their time working on the films. As one of Rickman’s final and most iconic lines in the “Harry Potter” film series, it also functions as a subtle tribute to the late actor, who died in 2016 of cancer at age 69.

In the wake of Rickman’s death, J.K. Rowling revealed that she had passed on one key piece of information to the actor early on in filming the meaning of the word “always,” and in turn, Snape’s love of Lily.
