One of the big draws of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the introduction of young Albus Dumbledore. The fan-favorite character is back and he recruits Newt to take down Grindelwald on his behave because he “can’t make a move,” in Dumbledore’s own words. Originally, it was thought the threequel would repeat the two-year release gap of the first two movies and come out on November 20, 2020. This date was never set in stone, though and when production was pushed back by Warner Bros, we knew that 2020 wasn’t going to happen for the threequel.
It was then set for November 12, 2021. However, just when filming was due to begin in March 2020, the pandemic saw the start of production delayed until September. And then came the exit of Depp, leading to the movie being pushed back to July 2022.
Afteranother production delay in early February 2021, filming wrapped later that month according to composer James Newton Howard: “I know that David Yates has finished shooting, and I’m chomping at the bit to get going.”
So, hopefully, with filming done , the current 2022 release date will stick and there will be no further release delays.
The fourth and fifth movies have never had release dates, but we originally assumed we could expect them in November 2022 and November 2024, which now definitely won’t be the case.
There’s no guarantee that the third movie will be a hit, so it could well be that it marks the end of the Fantastic Beasts series. So we could be waiting a while to see if we’ll get a fourth and fifth movie.
Assuming they do happen though, don’t expect a fourth movie anytime before 2024.
