Why Harry Potter Didnt Resurrect Dumbledore In Deathly Hallows

Resurrection Stone

Harry Potter uses the resurrection stone to bring back four of his loved ones from the dead, but why didn’t he also resurrect Dumbledore?

Harry Potter brought back four of his loved ones with the resurrection stone in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but surprisingly didnt revive the newly-deceased Dumbledore, and heres why. After Dumbledore died at the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, he gifted Harry two items in his will: The sword of Godric Gryffindor and the golden snitch from the first Harry Potter film. While he wasnt able to receive the sword, he was given the snitch with a coded inscription that said I open at the close. Harry later realized this was meant to be used before he sacrificed himself to Voldemort, with the golden snitch enclosing the resurrection stone that would revive his loved ones from the dead to help guide him into death.

When Harry finally used the resurrection stone in the woods, he brought back to life his mom, dad, godfather Sirius, and mentor/family friend Lupin. As Harry prepared to die at the hands of Voldemort for the greater good, his deceased loved ones eased his fears about death and comforted him until the moment Tom Riddle used the Avada Kedavra curse on him. Considering Dumbledore was one of the most important figures in Harrys growth at Hogwarts, it surprised many that Harry Potter‘s protagonist didnt also resurrect the influential headmaster who had just recently died.

“To Harry James Potter, I leave the Snitch he caught in his first Quidditch match at Hogwarts, as a reminder of the rewards of perseverance and skill,” his will reads.

For a while, Harry is unable to open the snitch. A sentence merely appears on the golden sphere, “I open at the close.”

But at the end of the final book when Potter is walking to his death match with Lord Voldemort, he’s finally able to open the snitch by whispering “I am about to die.” Inside, he finds the resurrection stone, the stone that was part of the Tale of Three Brothers. Harry is then able to see all of his deceased family members before what he believes is to be his final fight with Lord Voldemort.

Harry Potter: Is The Resurrection Stone A Sacred Weapon Or A Horcrux Can It Really Bring People Back To Life

How Did Dumbledore Get the Resurrection Stone in Half ...

I often have friends arguing with me in the comment area. They always think that the “Sorcerer’s Stone” and the “Resurrection Stone” are the same.

It is also unclear whether the “resurrection stone” is a “sacred weapon” or a “horcrux”.

In fact, these two stones are completely different stones, and there is no relationship between them.

The “Resurrection Stone” is both a “sacred weapon” and a “horcrux”.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand, let’s talk about these two “legendary” stones in detail below.

Red Hagrid And White Dumbledore

Rowling said in her article that “alchemy” was once considered real and possible.

In the ancient literature on “alchemy”, the work of alchemists, to a certain extent, symbolizes a spiritual journey.

In the process of alchemy, they went from ignorance to enlightenment .

The “white” representing low-priced metals and the “red” representing gold have been mentioned many times in ancient documents. They also represent the two sides of human nature and must be reconciled.

Rowling was inspired by this and named two important men in Harry’s life: Rubeus Hagrid and Albus Dumbledore .

They represent the image of Harry’s ideal father: Hagrid is warm, pragmatic, and a bit wild, Dumbledore is full of wisdom, impressive, and sometimes a little detached.

Why Did Dumbledore Give Harry The Resurrection Stone

Since we dont see Dumbledores full will, except for the parts read out loud to Harry, Hermione and Ron we will never truly know what Dumbledores intentions were. However, there are quite a few theories as to why he left Harry the Resurrection Stone.

The most popular theory comes from the other things he left to the trio. Many fans believed that since he left The Tales of Beedle the Bard to Hermione, Dumbledore was alluding to the Deathly Hallows.

Since the collection of books contain the story of the three brothers which deal with the three gifts Death gave to the brothers, many believe he wanted to point the trio to the Deathly Hallows.

After all, Dumbledore during his younger days was a known believer of the story. While most of the wizarding world believes the story was completely fictional, Dumbledore was convinced whoever holds all three of the gifts will become the Master of the Death.

However, there is a more fitting explanation. Since Dumbledore was aware of the fact that Harry will have to die, he left the stone to him so he can get some reassurance during his final moments before he confronted Voldemort and allowed him to kill him.

Did The Resurrection Stone Bring Harry Potter Back To Life

Contrary to its name, the Resurrection Stone is not what brought Harry back to life. Although many people assume the stone has the ability to bring the dead back to life this is not really how it works.

The way it works is described in the legend of the three brothers. Rather than reviving people the stone just brings them back as a shadow of who they were before they died.

This is why the second brother ultimately killed himself. His original wish was to bring the girl he loved back to life but the Resurrection Stone couldnt bring her back.

We actually see the way it works when Harry drops the stone in the Forbidden forest. Rather than bringing his parents and Remus and Sirius back to life, they appear in front of him like ghosts.

This means that even if Harry tried to bring himself back to life with the stone, he wouldnt actually succeed in his plane. He would simply return to the world as a ghost.

Harry Died As Well When He Destroyed All Horcruxes Part 1

Albus and The Resurrection Stone – Harry Potter Theory

The Deathly Hallows. Without these seven artifacts, Voldemort lost his ability to exist as a living human being. As with any wizard who had split his soul too many times, Voldemort was now a mere ghost of his former self. Harrys sudden resurrection was just a side effect of Voldemorts demise Harry had passed through The Gateway and emerged from Limbo .

Because Harry and Voldemort had died precisely the same time, The Elder Wand refused its allegiance to anyone but its master: Lord Voldemort. However, it did not kill him instead, it returned from whence it came Death itself returning control of The Elder Wand into Deaths hands for another one thousand years.

Why Dumbledores Reaction Was Changed In Goblet Of Fire

After Harrys name comes out from the Goblet of Fire, everyone at Hogwarts begins to wonder how was it possible for his name to be added if he was too young and there was an Age Line protecting the Goblet and keeping those younger than 17 away. In the book, Dumbledore approaches Harry and asks calmly if he put his name into the Goblet of Fire in the movie, however, his reaction is the complete opposite. Dumbledore runs to Harry and reacts rather intensely, desperately asking him if he put his name in the Goblet .

A reason for this change hasnt been revealed, so it was most likely a creative decision of the director and/or Michael Gambon when building the character and to add more drama to the scene. Dumbledores intensity is a frequent topic of discussion between Harry Potter fans as it felt out of character, as Dumbledore from the books would have never reacted so aggressively towards Harry. The scene as described in the book implies Dumbledore knew it couldnt have been Harry, which is why he asks calmly, as it was a mere formality in the movie, Dumbledores reaction shows he believes Harry could have definitely done it.
