Costume And Set Design

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Official Trailer #1 – (2004) HD

Cuarón wanted to establish a more mature tone in the characters’ costumes and the sets. He explained, “What I really wanted to do was to make Hogwarts more contemporary and a little more naturalistic.” He studied English schools and noted, “Each teenager’s individuality was reflected in the way they wore their uniform. So I asked all the kids in the film to wear their uniforms as they would if their parents weren’t around.” Columbus considered the costumes changes as “a reflection of the character development within the books themselves” and their transition to teenagers. Whereas in the first two films the characters are constantly in their uniforms, in Prisoner of Azkaban the characters often wear modern street clothes. Rowling, who was consulted for this change, stated, “for me the cloaks and everything makes sense for the academic time but in personal time they would be wearing their own clothes.” joined the film as costume designer, eventually working on all of the following instalments in the series.

Some sets were either reused from earlier films or used for more than one space. The Defence Against the Dark Arts and Divination classrooms were filmed in the same set. The Honeydukes set was a redress of the set of Flourish & Blotts that was seen in Chamber of Secrets, which, in turn, had been redressed from the Ollivanders set from the first film.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Real

Deathly Hallows broke sales records upon its publication, outperforming previous games in the Harry Potter franchise. This is the darkest movie, well, movies. Death, growing up, being alone, and being isolated are motifs that perfectly capture the ages of the characters.

The novel was mostly well-received by reviewers, and it won the Colorado Blue Spruce Book Award in 2008, as well as the American Library Associations Best Book for Young Adults award due to the fact it being more popular among teenagers because of the ages of the characters.

The book was adapted into a film in two installments, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 in November 2010 and Part 2 in July 2011.

Many other analyses of concepts in the books have been established by academics and writers, some more nuanced than others and some having political subtexts.

Normalcy, tyranny, survival, and overcoming imposing odds have all been identified as themes that run throughout the series.

The events of Deathly Hallows took place between 1997 and 1998. This did not affect the ages of characters as much as the real-life ages of actors.

Parts 1 and 2 were shot back-to-back, beginning on the 19th of February 2009 and ending on the 12th of June 2010. Part 1 was released on November 11, 2010, and Part 2 was released on July 7, 2011. Still, the real-life ages of the actors tell a story of the period in which the movies were shot.

But how did the actors ages influence them after the biggest franchise?

The Boggart In The Wardrobe

  • In the book, Harry, Ron and Hermione make their way to Defence Against the Dark Arts class, when Hermione disappears but then reappears a few feet behind them. In the film, Harry and Ron are already in the classroom when Hermione appears during the lesson.
  • In the book, Parvati Patil’s boggart is a mummy in the film, it is a giant snake.
  • In the book, the Boggart which had transformed into a spider to scare Ron, loses its legs when Ron casts the spell on it and rolls over to Harry, where Lupin prevents it from transforming, while in the film Ron conjures some roller blades to appear on the spider’s legs, after which Parvati faced it, and it transformed into a massive serpent, but was again countered, after which it was faced by Harry, upon which it transformed into a Dementor, upon which Lupin stopped it and sealed it back into the cupboard.

Moony Wormtail Padfoot And Prongs

Hot in the third movie
  • The story of Lupin’s connection to the Shrieking Shack and Whomping Willow is omitted.
  • In the novel, Snape appears in the Shrieking Shack after pulling off the Invisibility Cloak, but in the film, as the trio didn’t bring the cloak with them, Snape appears visible and is seen when he disarms Sirius.
  • Also, in the film, Snape disarms Sirius since Lupin passed his wand to him when Sirius was so wanting to kill Pettigrew. In the novel, Lupin never gave his wand to Sirius, so Snape never disarms the latter.

What Is The Name Of The Dragon That Cedric Diggory Has To Face In The Triwizard Tournament

Cedric Diggory has to face the Swedish Short-Snout during the Triwizard Tournament. Cedric ended up using his Transfiguration skill to turn a rock into a dog. This distracted the dragon, which led to Cedric being able to grab his Golden Egg to complete the task.

Viktor Krum faced a Chinese Fireball, Fleur Delacour faced a Common Welsh Green, and Harry faced a Hungarian Horntail during the tournament.

Recasting Snape Would Have Been Almost Impossible For Harry Potter

Recasting a character in the Harry Potter films could have been difficult at the time since most actors saw their characters through from the first film to the last. The prime example of recasting a Harry Potter character was when Dumbledore actor Richard Harris passed away after filming Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and producers chose to recast Dumbledore with Michael Gambon for the rest of the film series. The precedent was there, but Rickman’s impeccable ability to express sarcasm and deep-rooted emotional anguish in his performance made him a much better fit for Snape than Harris had been for Dumbledore. As a result, replacing him at any point, after several film-defining performances, would have been a huge miscalculation.

Flight Of The Fat Lady

  • While the book has Peeves describe Sirius Black’s attack on the Fat Lady’s portrait after learning about this from her when he saw her in a portrait on the fourth floor, in the film it was the Fat Lady herself that described the attack from a nearby portrait.
  • In the book, while Harry cannot go to Hogsmeade and stays with Lupin, they spend their time in his office and Harry sees a Grindylow which Lupin was taking delivery of for their next lesson, while in the film, they are talking on the Wooden Bridge after apparently meeting there. This difference creates a continuity error in the seventh film when Lupin interrogates Harry after the Battle of the Seven Potters holding his wand to Harry’s face and asking him ‘what creature sat in the corner the first time Harry Potter visited my office in Hogwarts.’ A deleted scene is assumed to show this, before the two of them went for a walk on the Wooden Bridge.

How Old Are The Other Harry Potter Characters

When James and Lily were 20 years old, they just had Harry, and when Sirius was just 21 years old when he entered Azkaban. These facts are not the easiest to grasp since we believed Sirius was much older.

When Harry first arrived at Hogwarts, Hagrid was 63 years old, while Snape was just 31. According to the Harry Potter fandom Wiki, Lupin and Tonks married in 1997, making Lupin 37 years old and Tonks 24 years old. Tonks attended the same school as Charlie Weasley, but she graduated only a few months before Harry.

James and Lily probably married and had Harry at a young age because of the first war against Voldemort, which is not that strange at all. Of course, it was only because of their deaths and Lilys sacrifice for Harry that their story ended so suddenly.

Tonks most likely decided to marry Remus as soon as possible during the second Voldemort war for the same reasons. Remuss condition had kept him from finding a partner, let alone having a wife and child.

Students are not sent a letter on their birthdays, however. They typically get their letters/notifications in the summer before school starts. By coincidence, Harrys birthday is in the summer, so it is about the same time, and technically Harry got his first letter a week before his birthday.

We hope this clarified some questions and concerns about the ages and the brutality of life these young individuals had to go through. Still, their stories never age, much like the characters in them!

Movie Review: Third Time Out Is A Charm For Young Wizards In ‘harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban’

    3 1/2 stars out of 4

Turning 13 suits our intrepid Hogwarts students just fine in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Harry, given all he’s gone through, has some justifiable teen angst. With Daniel Radcliffe becoming increasingly assured in the role, he’s now a 13-year-old wizard with some swagger and some anger. Just look at what he does in the opening scene to his insufferable Aunt Marge — clearly he is no longer that meek, lost boy.

Hermione has outgrown the bossy, awkward, know-it-all stage. Now she — “the brightest witch of her age” — is calm, competent, far more together than the boys. And wait until you see how she treats dastardly Draco Malfoy.

And Ron ? Well he’s still Ron, though perhaps not as awkward as the old Ron. And he is starting to make eyes at Hermione, we notice.

They’re all growing up, and so does the Harry Potter movie series in the hands of new director Alfonso Cuaron, even with a few plot problems toward the end.

Chris Columbus did a solid job directing the first two adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s books. The first was straightforward and efficient, lacking a little poetry but still quite accomplished at setting up the series. The second was a step up, darker and grittier, adding layers to the mythology of Hogwarts and its young hero.

Cuaron, who made the magical A Little Princess and the racy Y Tu Mama Tambien, makes no radical changes in this third Harry Potter story. He clearly respects the template Columbus left him.

    Harry Potter And The Half

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince came in 2009 and added a new twist into the story. In this film, Dumbledore’s close companion proved to be a possible Death Eater sent into Hogwarts to beat them from within as Snape took center stage. Snape, the Half-Blood Prince, left a notebook behind that Harry found and used to aid him through the year.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire Real

The activities of Goblet of Fire took place between 1994 and 1995. Filming took place between June 25th, 2004, and a date I cannot recall, but it was a very long film.

We can estimate that post-production took 6 months because that is how long the last one took, so shooting finished in May 2005. On November 6, 2005, it was finally released. This is the first movie in which we see the darker theme. After all, our characters are now in puberty and are showing angst.

The film is the first in the series to be rated PG-13 in the United States and 12A in the United Kingdom. The production began in early 2004. Leavesden Film Studios was used to film the Hogwarts scenes.

Five days after its debut, the film had earned more than US$102 million at the North American box office, making it the third-highest first-weekend haul for a Harry Potter film, behind only Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2.

Goblet of Fire had an enormously profitable box office run, grossing $896 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2005 and the sixth-highest-grossing film in the Harry Potter franchise.

    Differences From The Book

Prisoner of Azkaban was, at the time of publication, the series’ longest book. The increasing plot complexity necessitated a looser adaptation of the book’s finer plot lines and back-story. The connection between Harry’s parents and the Marauder’s Map is only briefly mentioned, as is Remus Lupin‘s association to the map. Additionally, it was never mentioned who the Marauders were or who the nicknames Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs referred to. Some exposition was removed for dramatic effect: both the Shrieking Shack and Scabbers the rat are mentioned only very briefly in the film, while they receive a more thorough coverage in the novel. Most of Sirius Black‘s back story is also cut, with no mention of how he escaped from Azkaban.

On account of pace and time considerations, the film glosses over detailed descriptions of magical education. Only one Hippogriff, Buckbeak, is seen, and only Malfoy and Harry are seen interacting with the Hippogriff during Care of Magical Creatures lessons, and most other lessons, including all of Snape‘s Potions classes, were cut from the film. The Fidelius Charm’s complicated description is removed entirely from the film, with no explanation given of exactly how Sirius is supposed to have betrayed the Potters to Lord Voldemort. Many of this scene’s lines are redistributed amongst Cornelius Fudge and Minerva McGonagall in compensation, McGonagall’s exposition of the Animagus transformation is instead given by Snape.

Differences From Earlier Films In The Series

Quidditch with the Dementors | Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban [Open Matte 16:9]

One possible explanation could be that Hagrid was promoted to new bigger living quarters closer to the castle after getting the Care of Magical Creatures job, enabling him to perform both his teaching and grounds-keeping duties easily. It would also give students a safer place to take lessons, away from the forest.

    • The location of the portrait of the Fat Lady, the entrance to the Gryffindor Common Room, has been moved to the Grand Staircase. The appearance of the Fat Lady has also changed, with a different actress, background, and ball gown from the first film: In the first film, the Fat Lady is played by Elizabeth Spriggs. She is shown with black hair and a pink silk dress and she doesn’t seem to have much personality. Oddly, this version of her is not particularly fat. Her portrait is located at the end of a corridor somewhere in the castle, but its location is never specified. The Fat Lady as portrayed by Spriggs moves only when approached by a student and very little at that. She also asks for the password, ensuring more effective concealment of the common room. In the first film, given the Fat Lady’s dress and background, she seems to have lived in the sixteenth century Europe. The Spriggs version of the Fat Lady’s portrait is also used in the video game adaptations of Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets.

What Is The Final Line Of The Series

The final line of the series was Ready, which came during the conversation between Harry and his son, Albus Severus Potter, who was heading to Hogwarts for the first time. During this conversation, Albus Severus expressed concern that he was going to get put into Slytherin by the sorting hat. Harry told his son that one of the bravest people that he knows was a member of Slytherin house, which was a reference to Severus Snape. Harry also told him that if it means so much to him, he can tell the sorting hat which house that he would prefer to go to.

In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it was revealed that Albus Severus was actually sorted into Slytherin. He also becomes close friends with Dracos son, Scorpius Malfoy.
