A private Catholic school in Nashville has removed the Harry Potter books from its library, saying they include actual curses and spells, which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits.
Local paper the Tennessean reported that the pastor at St Edward Catholic school, which teaches children of pre-kindergarten age through to 8th grade, had emailed parents about JK Rowlings series to tell them that he had been in contact with several exorcists who had recommended removing the books from the library.

We were introduced to this spell when Harry Potter and dozens of other students attended the Duelling Club in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” overseen by Professor Snape and Professor Lockhart . After showing his useless new colleague up in front of the kids, Snape decides to pit Harry against Draco Malfoy.
Draco conjures a snake during their duel, and after Lockhart proves incapable of disposing of it, Snape steps in and uses Vipera Evanesca . It was later used by Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore when he fought Voldemort at the Ministry of Magic. The Dark Lord conjured a fire snake during their memorable duel, forcing Dumbledore to act quickly. You’re not likely to come across many fire snakes in real life, granted, but Vipera Evanesca would be a most welcome addition to any hiker’s spellbook.

Harry Potter books have been removed from one school because they contain ‘real’ curses and spells.
Students at a US school will no longer be allowed to read about the adventures of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley after they were banned for including real spells.
Reverend Dan Reehill at the Catholic school in Tennessee explained that after consulting with several US and Roman exorcists over J.K. Rowling’s series, he was advised to remove them from the library.
In an email to the parents of students at St Edward Catholic School, he reportedly wrote: “These books present magic as both good and evil, which is not true, but in fact a clever deception.
The curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text.
Rebecca Hammel, the superintendent of schools for the Catholic Diocese of Nashville, confirmed to The Tennessean that the Reverend has the final say on the matter, as the Catholic Church doesnt have an official position on Harry Potter.
She said: Each pastor has canonical authority to make such decisions for his parish school.
Hes well within his authority to act in that manner.
Ms Hammel then explained that the school had just opened a new library which led them to clear out some of the books.
She then added that kids were still welcome to read the books outside of school time.
Evasco Harry Potter Spells List
If I were a magic person, I would have used evanasco each time my parents entered my room. Do you know? The Harry Potter spells list mentions Evanasco as a spell to make things disappear. Rowling And The Inklings
Several Christian writers have compared Rowling to the Inklings, a group that included C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, and Charles Williams, who explored Christian themes and morality in a fantasy context. Dave Kopel, citing John Granger’s book, draws comparisons between Rowling’s and Lewis’s common usage of Christian symbols, such as lions, unicorns and stags. He compares the work to Lewis’s Christian allegory: “In the climax of Chamber of Secrets, Harry descends to a deep underworld, is confronted by two satanic minions , is saved from certain death by his faith in Dumbledore , rescues the virgin , and ascends in triumph.
