Is Luna Lovegood Autistic

The Root Of Voldemort’s Evil

But J.K. Rowling has never confirmed that is what she intended. Its possible she accidentally wrote an autistic character. Many authors base their characters on people theyve met. Right now it is believed 1 in 45 people are autistic, so its possible Rowling met an autistic person that became who Luna was based on.

What Do I Read Next

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is the first book in Rowling’s series and appeared in England under the title Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1997. Harry Potter learns he is a wizard when he is eleven years old and finds that there is a place where he fits in: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He helps keep the Sorcerer’s Stone safely out of Voldemort’s reach by the end of the year, with the help of new friends, Ron and Hermione.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets represents the second year of schooling for Harry. He learns how Voldemort opened the Chamber of Secrets at Hogwarts fifty years earlier, and he must figure out how to close it again before it kills another muggle-born student.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban takes place during Harry’s third year of school. He learns about a godfather he never knew he had during this eventful year, and he also discovers how a friend betrayed his father many years before.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire takes a significantly darker tone than the previous three novels. In it, Harry enters the Tri-Wizard tournament at Hogwarts, but he faces his most difficult challenge in a graveyard with Voldemort. When Harry’s friend is murdered, he knows that Voldemort has regained full strength at last.

She Didn’t Mean To Eliminate Sirius

Harry Potter fans can still hear Bellatrix’s sing-song voice yelling that she ended Sirius’ life, especially because of how proud she sounded. Any opportunity that she got, she would remind everyone about what she did. However, if fans look close enough they may detect a moment of humanity from Bellatrix Lestrange.

In the Order of the Phoenix, directly after she hits Sirius with Avada Kedavra, the camera focuses on Bellatrix closely. Right before her mouth curls in to a wicked smile, her face shows an emotion that fans would not expect – regret and surprise. Despite them being enemies, it seems that the gravity of the situation lands on her. She realizes that she just took out her cousin. It is just a flicker, but it is impossible to hide.

Experiments In Dark Magic

Dumbledore, of course, did not make Voldemort a professor. With this last vesitge of attachment to the straight and narrow path of magic worn away, Voldemort plunged into terrorism and arcane wizardry. Here lie the beginnings of the First Wizarding War: campaigns of murder, the infiltration of the halls of the powerful, and the scarring of the magical world that would leave its inhabitant too terrified to even speak his name for years to come. Giants, werewolves, and all manner of dark creatures were recruited to his side. His horcruxes were secreted across the country, from the diary Ginny Weasley would become possessed by to the locket in the cave Dumbledore and Harry would one day visit.

It was a grave time for the world, but an absolute apex of power for Voldemort. It is during this time that the last of his comely appearance would desert him. His experiments with dark magic, his bloody trail of murders, and his utterly ruthless control of his followers resulted in the bone-white wraith he became. Voldemort appeared to be less a man than a cold-blooded creature of nightmares, with scarlet eyes, a skeletal frame, and hands “like large, pale spiders.” He’d managed to make himself into a being of his own invention, a mixture of traits borrowed from reptiles, monsters of legend, and mythologized tyrants. He’d grown to look as inhuman as his acts, and that was exactly according to plan.

Events At Little Hangleton: 1944

Riddle didnt learn the complete story of his birth until he tracked down and visited his uncle Morfin Gaunt the summer after Myrtle died. In revenge for his fathers abandonment and Muggle blood, he went to the Riddle mansion in Little Hangleton and murdered his father and grandparents . The Riddles gardener, Frank Bryce, later told police that on the day of the Riddles deaths he had seen a stranger a teenage boy, dark-haired and pale, near the manor. The next morning a maid found Tom Riddle Sr. and his elderly parents dead in their drawing room, still in their dinner things. The Riddles were as cold as ice and each had a look of terror upon his or her face but had no sign of physical injury. The Riddles were buried in the Little Hangleton churchyard.

This last year at Hogwarts, Tom was Prefect, Head Boy, and received a Medal for Magical Merit. Albus Dumbledore later said of him, Brilliant. Of course, he was probably the most brilliant student Hogwarts has ever seen. Secretly however, Tom was researching Horcruxes and had come to the conclusion that if one Horcrux was good, seven would be better . He made his first two Horcruxes with the murders of Myrtle and his father. He was only seventeen.

About this time, Albus Dumbledore defeated the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in a spectacular duel and became the only wizard that Riddle ever feared.

Attacked Animals In His Orphanage

How Tom Riddle Became So Evil

As science and psychology have proven, harming animals is usually a sign of antisocial personality disorders. Tom Riddle exhibited some of these behaviors long before he became one of the darkest wizards of all time. While at Wool’s Orphanage in London, Tom manipulated and harmed animals. Although he was unaware of his legitimate magical heritage at the time, To believed that his mother was a circus worker, and therefore he someone how knew magic tricks.

He used his abilities to hang one of the other orphan’s rabbits from the rafters when he was angry.

He also discovered that he could speak to snakes, which allowed him to use them as he wished.

He Was A Kleptomaniac

When it comes to Tom Riddle’s antisocial tendencies, we tend to focus on the bigger ones. For instance, all of the manipulation, torture, and murder. However, he had a weird habit that developed early in life, and one that Dumbledore called him out on: he was a thief and a kleptomaniac!

Tom Riddle was raised in an orphanage, and unfortunately, this was where he had to spend his summers when he was away from Hogwarts. One of the things he liked to do in his earlier orphanage years was to steal things from other orphans and then hide them in his cupboard.

When Dumbledore first came to visit Tom, he made him return everything to the orphans and warned Tom that stealing was not tolerated at Hogwarts. Tom learned to be more sneaky, but he never really stopped his thieving ways. He stole the Gaunt family insignia, and he would later kill Hepzibah Smith to steal both the Slytherin Locket and Hufflepuff Cup that he coveted.

He Wanted Protection And Thought The Dark Lord Was Winning

Sirius basically says that Pettigrew wanted to be allied with whoever he thought was most powerful, which seems like how he consistently behaved.

âWhen did I ever sneak around people who were stronger and more powerful than myself? But you, Peter â Iâll never understand why I didnât see you were the spy from the start. You always liked big friends whoâd look after you, didnât you? It used to be us ⦠me and Remus ⦠and James â¦â – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 19

Pettigrew gravitated to whoever he thought was the most powerful and able to protect him. As a Gryffindor at Hogwarts, the Marauders were likely the best group for him to go to for protection – they were in his house and seemed to be highly regarded among the student body. There was a group of young Death Eaters in the making, but they didnât seem to offer much protection or status – Snape was one and he was bullied mercilessly by the Marauders. Joining them wouldnât help Pettigrew much, especially as a Gryffindor whoâd have to share a common room and dormitory with the Marauders where heâd be âunprotectedâ from them. In addition, the Marauders were probably the best at bullying during his time at Hogwarts. Being one of the Marauders would mean he wasnât on the receiving end of any of their bullying.

J.K. Rowling also mentioned this, though somewhat obliquely, when addressing why Snape wanted to join the Death Eaters.

She Was Not The Only One Who Hurt Nevilles Parents

Unfortunately, the abuse of Frank and Alice Longbottom is among one of the most tragic events in the Harry Potter universe. Very fittingly, Bellatrix Lestrange was involved in it. While the blame is usually placed on her any time the incident is brought up, it is important to note that she did not act on her own.

Following Voldemort’s downfall, his Death Eaters aimed to get more answers about the prophecy. In order to obtain it, Frank and Alice were tormented with the Cruciatus curse to the point of insanity. Bellatrix was certainly among the perpetrators, but she also acted alongside Barty Crouch Jr. and her husband Rodolphus. Having accomplices does not absolve her, and she was locked away in Azkaban for the crime. However, most fans forget that she did not do everything on her own.

Tried To Destroy The Order Of The Phoenix

Why did voldemort turn evil?

During the First Wizarding War, Dumbledore’s Order of the Phoenix caused Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters an immense amount of trouble. At the time, he was battling the Ministry’s forces while trying to take over it. The Order of the Phoenix just made it that much hard for him to do so. To make matters worse, the Order was created by Albus Dumbledore, who was the only person that Voldemort was truly scared of. He also held deep animosity for Dumbledore since he was the one who denied him the Defense Against the Dark Arts job at Hogwarts.

The Order found ways of protecting themselves from Voldemort’s forces during the war, as many of them were known to the Death Eaters.

Most of the time, protection spells were used to encase their homes.

The Problem With Prophecy

Although the flaws present within Riddle are at the heart of Voldemorts downfall, the path was rapidly increased by his interpretation of the prophecy that underlies the narrative of the Harry Potter series. The prophecy that drew Harry into the narrative was delivered by Sybill Trelawney during an interview with Dumbledore and made its way to Voldemort who interpreted it as concerning the threat of the new born child of James and Lily Potter. He had also only heard half the prophecy. Interestingly it is later discussed that the prophecy could easily have also referred to Neville Longbottom. The prophecy was:

The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches/

Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies/

And the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not/

And either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives.

Destroyed The Potters And Tried To Eliminate Harry

During the height of Voldemort’s reign, Severus Snape overheard a prophecy being read by Sybill Trelawney. The prophecy detailed the birth of the one would bring down the Dark Lord. Although Snape only caught part of Sybill’s prediction, he relayed this information to Voldemort.

The Dark Lord felt immensely threatened, so he tracked down the two boys who the prophecy could have referred to Harry and Neville. Although both families were members of the Order of the Phoenix, Voldemort chose to go after Harry since they shared a similar Half-Blood heritage.

Since Order members were hidden, Voldemort received the whereabouts from the Potter’s Secret Keeper, Wormtail. He then went to Godric’s Hollow and took out both James and Lily. Finally, he came face-to-face with baby Harry and the rest is literary history.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

In the second instalment, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Rowling introduces Tom Marvolo Riddle, a manifestation of a teenage Voldemort that resides inside a magical diary found by Ginny Weasley. In this book, Ginny is written as a shy girl with a crush on Harry. Feeling anxious and lonely, she begins to write into the diary and shares her deepest fears with the sympathetic Tom. However, at the climax of the story, when Riddle rearranges the letters in his name to write “I am Lord Voldemort”, Riddle is revealed as a magical manifestation of the boy who would later grow up to become the Dark Lord. Riddle states he has grown strong on Ginny’s fears and eventually possesses her, using her as a pawn to unlock the Chamber of Secrets, whence a basilisk is set free and petrifies several Hogwarts students. Harry defeats the manifestation of Riddle from the diary and the basilisk. In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Albus Dumbledore reveals to Harry that the diary was one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes.

His Mother Was A Rapist

Why Tom Riddle Became Lord Voldemort

As mentioned before, Tom Riddle’s mother seduced Tom’s wealthy Muggle father with a love potion. While some fans dismiss this as just one more bit of magic in the world of Harry Potter, the ugly truth is that Tom Riddle’s mother was a rapist: she magically forced a man to have sex with her against his will, and this is how Tom was conceived. If that wasn’t grim enough, J.K. Rowling herself claimed that this may have doomed young Tom Riddle!

In an old web chat, Rowling clarified that Riddle had entered the world through a loveless union and that he had entered the world in a prejudicial way due to the coercion of his mother. This contributed to Tom’s inability to understand love, and it’s why he often sparred with Dumbledore on the idea of love being the most powerful magic of all.

If his mother had not used that love potion, the older Voldemort would not have underestimated the love that Harry’s parents had for their son a love which ultimately saved Harry’s life. Then again, if he wasn’t born from a loveless union, Tom Riddle may have never become evil in the first place.

She’s Related To Blood Traitors

With so much dissent in the wizarding world, there was bound to be a difference of opinion even within families. Bellatrix’s Black family tree is not as pure as she would have everyone think. Despite having a deep-seated hatred for anyone less than pureblood, Bellatrix has some blood traitors in her own family.

While much of the Black family maintains their hatred for those who are not pure-blood, there are some aspects of her own family tree that they would like to keep hidden. Bellatrix’s sister Andromeda was among the first to settle down with a muggle, leading to her expulsion from the family. Furthermore, since the pure-blood family lines run so closely, this also makes Bellatrix a distant relative of the Weasley family. However, it is very unlikely that they ever exchanged Christmas cards.

Cursed The Defense Against The Dark Arts Position At Hogwarts

The only job that Tom Riddle ever wanted was the Defense Against The Dark Arts position at Hogwarts. For various reasons, he was constantly denied the role. Even in his later years, he still attempted to win over Dumbledore to get the position. After Tom took out Hepzibah Smith, he mysteriously disappeared for a number of years. When he returned, he was openly referring to himself as “Lord Voldemort” and became more entrenched in the dark arts. He then asked Albus Dumbledore once more for the position. However, Dumbledore outright refused him again.

It’s suspected that Voldemort cursing the Defense Against The Dark Arts position is what led to a yearly turn-over in teachers ever since.

It was a blatant act of revenge but eventually, it also helped him sneak in Professor Quirrell.
