Now that weve gone over Butterbeers origins, derivations, and sweetness, we next need to tackle that most practical of considerations: where to actually buy it.

Its not an insignificant question, actually. It turns out that no one location has all six iterations on hand, and while your form of choice wont be particularly hard to track down, knowing where exactly to go beforehand can save you a great deal of time .

How To Make Butterbeer

The best thing about this recipe isnt just how good it tastes, its how easy it is! You just need four ingredients and youre good to go: cream soda, butterscotch syrup, heavy cream and powdered sugar.

Note: If you want to make this recipe even simpler, you can skip steps 1 and 2 and use store bought whipped cream instead of homemade.

Step 1: Youll want to start by preparing the whipped cream. Use a stand mixer or hand mixer to whip 1/2 cup whipped cream. Once soft peaks begin to form, add the powdered sugar.

Step 2: Continue to whip the cream until stiff peaks form, then set aside.

Step 3: Now pour approximately two ounces of cream soda and a tablespoon of caramel syrup into each mug. .

Step 4: Mix together. Youll want to be sure the syrup and cream soda are well blended.

Step 5: Pour in the remaining cream soda.

Step 6: Stir gently, just until ingredients are mixed. Be sure you dont stir too much or youll lose some of the carbonation).

Step 7: Top with whipped cream. I like to use an icing bag to make it pretty but thats totally up to you!

Step 8: Drizzle butterscotch over the whipped cream

This Harry Potter Butterbeer couldnt be much easier but thats not even the best part. The best part is how good it tastes!

This is also a perfect drink for Harry Potter birthday parties too. Just increase the recipe to fit the number of people youll be serving. I think itll go pretty well with some chocolate frogs, dont you?

How to Make Butterbeer: Butter Beer Recipe for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

In May 2021, fans of the “Harry Potter” franchise received some seriously magical news. Food & Wine reported that officially sanctioned Butterbeer, once only sold at Universal Studios, would also become available in New York City at its newly launched “Harry Potter” store and not just that. The report also revealed that the drink would come with a limited edition label created by “Harry Potter” design team MinaLima and inspired by the Magical Congress of the United States of America from the “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” film.

For many, the treats described in “Harry Potter” have formed foundational memories of decadence. In the fantasy series, which was written by J. K. Rowling, Butterbeer was described as “a bit like less sticky butterscotch” and often enjoyed by the protagonists in times of celebration . But how does the ubiquitous drink fare when filling actual glasses and real life stomachs? More importantly, how can those without the resources to pop off to New York City or Orlando enjoy the treat?

Well, hold onto your broomsticks because that and more will be explained as we explore every facet that has gone into making fact from fiction.

    Making Your Own Butterbeer

Considering the fact that Butterbeer was originally a fictional drink from a world with an obsessed fandom, it seems only right that it should be available to everyone, not just tourists with deep pockets.

Fortunately for those on a budget, plenty of recipes can be found online. The Spruce Eats offers a formula similar to hot buttered rum. Combine heavy cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, butterscotch sauce, and softened butter in a bowl. Whisk it, then chill it in the freezer. Next, add the chilled cream to a glass of vanilla cream soda and enjoy. If you want an alcoholic variety, spike it with rum or butterscotch schnapps. The Food Network offers a similar idea but reaches for condensed milk instead of heavy cream and lacks spices.

Another possible option for all you muggles out there who are maybe not as competent behind the bar as Madam Rosmerta? There is the magically named Flying Cauldron Butterscotch Beer. Produced by Reed’s, this non-alcoholic drink can purchased online and at national grocery chains like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s .

As if ice cream isn`t already wonderful enough, add Butterbeer flavor to the mix and youve got yourself an addicting new favorite. This soft-serve tastes like vanilla and butterscotch swirled to perfection. My only complaint is I cant purchase it by the gallon!

I recently learned this treat is served in multiple locations around The Wizarding World of Harry Potter so whether youre in Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade you can indulge in this delicious ice cream throughout the day.

    Tips For Making Thebest Butterbeer

    • Use golden color cream soda: It will create that golden brown look of the butterbeer drink.
    • Whipped topping: Make sure to beat your heavy cream to stiff peaks, so that it holds on its own, which will end up creating the perfect consistency for your Butterbeer.
    • Dont skip out on the fat: As tempting as it is to want to explore healthier options of our favorite guilty treats, this probably isnt the best recipe to find substitutes. The high-fat content in the heavy cream combined with the butter is going to give this drink the thickness you need for it to not just taste like soda with milk.
    • Make a perfect presentation: Transfer the cream into a zip-top bag. Cut the tip of the bag off at the 1/2-inch mark so that you can easily pipe the cream on top of the drink.

    I Tasted Every Butterbeer

Think you need to be a fan of J.K. Rowling’s work to fall in love with the stuff? Think again!

My initial encounter with Butterbeer may have been unlike yoursI’m a relatively old man who grew up on Tolkien by the time J.K. Rowling came along in the late 1990s, I was done shopping around for new worlds to disappear intoI already had Middle-earth, which suited me just fine.

And yet, one steamy August morning, I slipped into Diagon Alley, the second phase of Universal Orlando‘s Wizarding World of Harry Potter, got in line, a pretty long line as I recall, sampled the weird drink that everyone couldn’t stop talking about, and fell right in love.

Honestly, before I even got to the Butterbeer, I was already enchantedonly the stoniest of souls could avoid having their breath ever-so-slightly taken away upon entering either side of the Wizarding World, easily up there as some of the best theming ever created in any park, anywhere. I knew nothing of this familiar but strange world, but it looked and felt magical, and I kind of wanted to move in.

Since that first time, I haven’t picked up a Potter book or seen any of the films, and yet I keep finding myself drawn back into the Wizarding World it’s just that special. Since those early days, back in 2010 , we’ve gone from the original Butterbeer to a whole line of Butterbeer-flavored products the cost of a drink has also, incidentally, more than doubled.

This Butterbeer Was Easily The Best Version Of The Drink I’ve Ever Tried

I’ve tried the Butterbeer at Universal Orlando’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and I’ve even tasted homemade versions of the drink, but I usually find it to be a bit too sugary.

I was amazed that this version was sweet without being too intense.

The Butterbeer was served cold with a creamy foam on top, and it had a smooth butterscotch taste, which matches with what I thought it would taste like after reading the books.

I tend to like very bitter drinks, so I was happily surprised that the sweetness of the Butterbeer was refreshing but not overwhelming.

The foam also somehow stayed balanced on the Butterbeer as I drank it, so each sip included the tasty drink and the creamy topping.
